Do you work with family? How does relationship-based networking impact your life? Your company? Your bottom line? What are some of the biggest misconceptions about networking? In this week's episode of The Crushing Debt Podcast, Shawn & George talk to Spencer Reynolds and his son Kamryn Reynolds, Co-Executive Directors of BNI Tampa. Originally from Northern Utah, Spencer and his family packed up and moved to Florida in 2017, trading mountains for sunshine and lakes. With his wife, Tricia, running the show (let's be honest, she's the boss) and their four incredible kids—three adventurous adult sons and their adopted princess, almost 16—they're all about outdoor thrills, especially water sports and international adventure travel. And when we say "thrills," we mean it! Spencer's an adrenaline junkie—skydiving, hang gliding, mountain biking, and even trekking to Everest Base Camp with his brothers. If it involves speed, heights, or a near-death experience, he's probably done it… twice. (Ask about their Grand Canyon White Water Rafting trip from last year, wild!) Before becoming the networking master he is today, Spencer spent 12 years as a mortgage broker before making the leap into professional speaking and training in 2005. He's taken the stage in every major city across the U.S. and Canada, teaching professionals how to build systems, work By Referral Only, and grow businesses the right way with referrals. Through BNI, he's expanded his reach globally, inspiring thousands of entrepreneurs to unlock the power of relationships. Kamryn Reynolds is a communication coach, keynote speaker, and the youngest Executive Director in BNI history. He's the founder of Articulate Advantage, helping professionals speak with power, clarity, and confidence. A USF grad, Eagle Scout, and fluent Spanish speaker after serving a two-year mission in Argentina. Kamryn now specializes in keynotes and trainings for high-end hotels and resorts. Known for his high energy and practical frameworks, he's on a mission to become an Ironman, a TEDx speaker, and an international voice for intentional communication. He lives by one core belief: connection is the currency of opportunity. Spencer, Kamryn, George & Shawn talk about: What surprises them the most about working together. Early money lessons. For many Americans, taking part in a debate is just about the last thing they'd put on their dance card. But Braver Angels debates are different. In this episode Sam Rechek explains why.“Braver Angels debates are fun,” Sam tells us. “We've created a structure where people can have productive disagreements about contentious issues. That's something many yearn for, and they get interested in really fast.”Unlike most debates, there are no “winners” or “losers”. Speakers at Braver Angels debates are often passionate, but they can't interrupt or be snarky about the other side. Compelling arguments are made on both sides in a respectful way. Different viewpoints about an issue are warmly welcomed, but all comments must be addressed to the chair, not directly to the person you disagree with.“There's a real hunger for environments where people can have productive disagreements and mutual understanding”, says Sam. In our interview we also discuss LAPP skills, and the concept of courageous citizenship. Many of our beliefs about politics and controversial events are formed, or at least influenced, by fleeting impressions: Hot takes on social media, sound bites on TV and radio, and comments by those we know. This episode makes the case for going deeper and spending time with those you may passionately disagree with.Sam Rechek is Program Coordinator for the Braver Angels Debate Team. Several years ago as a undergraduate at the University of South Florida, Sam worked with FIRE - the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression and Heterodox Academy. He founded a student organization, First Amendment Forum—1AF—which developed into a venue for contentious discourse and advocacy for free speech principles. Sam holds a BA in Philosophy and Political Science from USF and an MA in Legal and Political Theory from University College London."How Do We Fix It?" reports on the people, projects and ideas of Braver Angels, the nation's largest cross-partisan volunteer-led movement to bridge partisan divides. Justin and Dan are back in studio to record a wide-ranging episode on Alex Golesh's first week with Auburn football and Auburn basketball's loss at Arizona. Topics include:* Golesh saying his top priority is re-recruiting the current roster* why Golesh could have gone clean slate with the program — but isn't* the right approach to retaining talent, given Auburn's recent situation* the quarterback situation and the Deuce Knight debate among fans* putting the importance of recruiting into the proper context* a reminder of why Auburn decided to hire Alex Golesh in the first place* why bringing over USF staffers (and maybe talent) makes sense* building the Year 1 staff of assistants, including a couple of new names* Beef O'Brady's?* what went so wrong for Auburn basketball at Arizona* why this particular loss isn't a reason to hit the panic button* how Auburn basketball didn't look connected enough on both ends of the floor* putting Auburn's 7-3 start in the proper context* looking ahead to the rest of the schedule, including that Purdue trip next week* A NOTE FROM DAN: Because of technical difficulties, we had to edit out the original ending of this episode. Justin provided thoughts about his visit to Tucson (he described some delicious Mexican food) and I lamented the looming end of 80s pro wrestling on Peacock and its uncertain streaming future. I vow that we will revisit both subjects in the future on The Auburn Observer Podcast. Championship Week is here, and we're asking the important questions about all nine games on Friday and Saturday. Can BYU avenge an earlier loss to Texas Tech and rally behind their newly re-upped coach? Will Georgia snap a three-game losing streak against Alabama and earn a first round CFP bye? What's the formula for a five-loss Duke to worm its way into the playoff? How big is the gap between Ohio State and Indiana? With a playoff spot on the line, should we favor North Texas or Tulane? And James Madison is gonna try to score like 70 points, right? Plus, a look at the latest news as the coaching carousel continues to spin, with Will Stein taking the job at Kentucky, Collin Klein taking over at Kansas State, and Brian Hartline making the move to USF. And, naturally, Ty has a rant on Penn State's pursuit of Kalani Sitake and the state of Pat Kraft's coaching search. Finally, a look at the latest CFP rankings and the scenarios (and fuzzy math) that is most interesting heading into the final weekend.
