For example, Nina's favorite nutrition shake, Soylent, is no longer available. SAD! We also discuss vegans, vegetarians, having to eat meat when you don't want it, a canceled (and then uncanceled) YouTuber, Spirit Island, house-moving helicopters and other Homo wner content, and greatly exaggerating reports of our death.Links:NinaPaley cancels the Vagina Museum: https://4w.pub/nina-paley-cancels-the-vagina-museum/Spirit Island Archive: https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxDPRFpq-C3zd9_DhKA-j5IWCpnABOcuYyFBoy Island: https://tv.apple.com/us/show/fboy-island/umc.cmc.6pvj6bxzk3vtisbuz0c8lg19f Get full access to Heterodorx Podcast at heterodorx.substack.com/subscribe
What is the deadliest item in London’s Vagina Museum? Why are drug addiction rates in Australia spiking by over 30% post-pandemic? And if you’ve already had two surgeries for inherited bunions, is “third time’s a charm" actually possible? What makes a substance addictive, and why is it so hard to just "quit"? In this episode, Claire Murphy and Dr. Mariam dive into the complexities of drug addiction in Australia, from the alarming rise of vaping among teens, to the shifting chemistry of the brain. We are joined by Dr. Shalini Arunogiri, an addiction psychiatrist, Associate Professor at Monash University and Clinical Director at Turning Point. She breaks down the "reward" chemicals like dopamine and serotonin that hook us, the reality of relapse, and why alcohol remains the most harmful drug from a population health perspective. Dr. Shalini also addresses the cannabis debate - exploring the link between high-potency use and psychosis - and why the term "addict" is being replaced by more empathetic, health-centered language. But first, we take a field trip to London’s Vagina Museum to look at its deadliest item…We discuss the history of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), the biology of the vaginal wall and why "retained tampon smell" is a more common clinic visit than you’d think. And, in our Quick Consult, Dr. Mariam helps listener Simone navigate the tricky world of "inherited bunions". Episode 899 is wild! And we think it bodes well for the 900s coming up. We start with a crazy thread online about whether one could hypothetically read braille with their clitoris (shoutout to the Vagina Museum), and we learn the insane reason doctors miscounted the number of nerve-endings in them. Susie discusses the latest shocking death penalty execution because the prisoner chose death by firing squad, and we learn the protocol for the process (it's so disturbing!). A teen in India had a parasitic twin removed from his abdomen, and the twin had fully developed genitalia, buttocks, and legs and could feel pain, but couldn't live outside of the other twin's abdomen. Sarah and Susie discover they both have an anatomical anomaly on their body, and let's just say it is on their bums. We learn about a shipwreck that dumped tons of Legos into the ocean and the people who seek the pieces on the world's beaches. We discuss an expensive legal battle happening in the Hamptons over a $25 gift card, and it's just as petty as it sounds. And Susie explains how doctors are using teeth to cure blindness.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodSponsors:Visit https://www.carawayhome.com/BRAINCANDY and you can take an additional 10% off your next purchase.Control Body Odor ANYWHERE with @lumedeodorant and get 15% off with promo code BRAINCANDY15 at https://lumedeodorant.com #lumepodSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

I stub my toe, St. Patrick's Day is ruined, violent criminals get deported in Mario Kart, a girl learns about gravity on the moon, another non-English trucking accident, tasting impending diahhrea, the perfect woman vs. beer, Ethan Van Sciver calls in, and The Vagina Museum threatens to close down; all that and more this week on The Dick Show!
A quick warning before listening: in this episode we're talking about female genitals, in quite a lot of detail.Brazil has the highest number of plastic surgery operations in the world and it's where the BBL, Brazilian Butt Lift, comes from. It's also seeing a spike in demand for another procedure: labiaplasty; where the labia minora (the folds of skin either side of the vulva) are reduced in size. There's been a 15% rise in this kind of surgery in the last 4 years, according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. And Brazil comes top in terms of the number of labiaplasties carried out - over 28,000 last year. Why are women getting this procedure done? Giulia Granchi from BBC Brasil explains. The idea of a “perfect vulva” is not new - it's been portrayed a certain way since sculptures in ancient Greece. Zoe Williams from the Vagina Museum in London explains the history of this idea - and why porn and social media has made it worse. And we hear about two projects; the Labia Library in Australia and the Great Wall of Vulva (formerly the Great Wall of Vagina) by British artist Jamie McCartney, both with the aim of demonstrating the huge range of shapes and sizes of women's genitalia. MVC&R would love it if someone in charge would do something about the outrageous gas prices, but President Joe Biden says he, “Can't do much about gas prices.” The director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now saying COVID is seasonal, and the “Vagina Museum” celebrates International Women's Day by honoring biological men. Vice President Kamala Harris is now going to Poland, and Secretary Pete Buttigieg wants you to buy an electric car so you can save on gas money. The president of GLAAD says the gender identity curriculum does not exist, however, banning the nonexistent curriculum would be harmful to children. Socialist Representative Rashida Tlaib wants you to believe the surging inflation going on is not inflation, and an MSNBC anchor admits it is “insane” that the United States is not energy independent.

Hour 1 - Nick Reed talks about a variety of topics in the news, including: Winter weather is trying to sneak back in to the Ozarks. Rain is expected to transition to snow from Thursday night into Friday. For International Women's Day, a Vagina Museum in the UK decided to celebrate trans women. Democratic fundraising giant ActBlue is using International Women's Day to celebrate its efforts to help women "build political power" and "live without the threat of violence." But the platform processes donations to powerful men accused of everything from strangling their wives to threatening to kill their wives. Nick gives an update on his sister, Ashley, and her journey on becoming the next Inked Magazine cover girl. Ashley is currently sitting at second place. Voting for the semi-finals will wrap up on Thursday, March 10th at 10 p.m. The Department of Health and Human Services paid for advertising of COVID-19 vaccines on hundreds of media outlets, even as the outlets often provided positive coverage of the vaccines. Nick explains how barter & trade commercials work in the radio industry.

Gwyneth Paltrow is in the news again promoting scientifically dubious treatments for your vag. One practice that Goop has popularized is vaginal steaming. In this episode, we find out the history of V-steam and whether or not it's actually good for you (Spoiler alert: It's not! Don't steam your vag!). OB/GYN Dr. Jen Gunter joins us to explain why your vulva doesn't need a steam cleaning, and Lizzie Marx educates us on steaming's weird Medieval ancestor, womb fumigation. ***Transcript and Show Notes: tinyurl.com/vm0102*** TRANSCRIPT Support the Vagina Museum! Fanny, minge, vajayjay, pussy, down there, yoni...There are hundreds, if not thousands, of terms in the English language for vaginas. Many of them are sexist and most are rather unhelpful. But none is as taboo, as frowned upon in high and low society, as much of an assault on the average upstanding citizen's ears as “c*nt.” What's up with that? What did c*nt ever do to you? In this episode, we answer those burning questions with the help of Fiona Sterling, bona fide Scottish person, and Professor Emma L.E. Rees, AKA Prof Vag. *********Show notes & transcript: tinyurl.com/vmnotes0101********* TRANSCRIPT Support the Vagina Museum! We depend on donors to keep the doors open and the podcast online. Good news, World. The Vagina Museum is making a podcast. Treat your ears to this teaser from Vagina Museum founder Florence Schechter, and subscribe to this channel so you don't miss out on amazing vagina content when our first episode drops later this winter. Vagina Museum Website Twitter Facebook Instagram Donate EPISODE TRANSCRIPT: Hey there. My name is Florence Schechter, and I'm the founder of the Vagina Museum. Yes, you heard right, there's a Vagina Museum. And I'm standing in front of it I'm busy Camden Market. The Vagina Museum is the world's first bricks and mortar museum dedicated to vaginas, vulvas, and gynaecological anatomy. When I heard that there was a penis museum in Iceland, but no vagina museum anywhere, I was pretty miffed...or muffed, you might say. So in 2017 I started a project to create one. And now, the Vagina Museum team is making history by opening our first premises in London's Camden Market this November. If you're in the neighborhood, make sure to grab tickets for our opening party or one of our pre-launch workshops or lectures. What's the Vagina Museum all about? We have a vision of a world where no one is ashamed of their bodies, everyone has bodily autonomy, and all of humanity works together to build a society that is free and equal. We want to spread knowledge and give people the confidence to talk about issues surrounding their gynecological anatomy and health; erase stigma; and act as a forum for feminism, women's rights, the LGBT+ community and intersex people. Also on the agenda is challenging heteronormative and cisnormative behavior and promoting intersectional, feminist, and trans-inclusive values. If that all sounds good to you, then hit subscribe because the first season of our podcast is going to feature six episodes that will take you deep into the past and present of the vagina. Ever hear of yoni steaming? We investigated its history. Like saying the word cunt? We've got a whole episode about it. Ever wondered if there were any transgender saints from the medieval ages? We've got the story. Merkins? Check. Placenta? Check. Desperate to know the real story of the vibrator's invention? We've got you. So subscribe to this channel, tell all your friends the good news, and stay tuned for The Vagina Museum Podcast, coming this winter. If you can't wait that long for incredible vagina content, follow us on social media and visit the museum website, vaginamuseum.co.uk to learn more, get involved as a member, and support our work.
