Wondering how scoliosis impacts your body? Let Dr. Tony Nalda break it down for you. Scoliosis is when your spine curves sideways unnaturally, and it can happen in your lower back, upper back, or neck. It can be measured and if it's 10 degrees or more, you've got scoliosis. Your Spine's Role Think of your spine as your body's support beam – it connects your hips, ribs, arms, and more. It helps you move comfortably and, importantly, shields your spinal cord, which acts like a master controller for your body. What You See and What You Don't Scoliosis doesn't just show up in your posture; it goes deeper. It can mess with your nerves and muscles, causing pain, especially in adulthood. Your muscles might struggle to keep everything in balance, leading to issues in your hips, knees, and feet. Understanding Progression Scoliosis can get worse over time, and there's a way to measure it called the Cobb angle. From mild to severe, each stage brings different problems. The trick? Don't wait – be proactive. Get your spine checked regularly to catch and treat any issues early on. In conclusion, Scoliosis is a journey, and understanding it is key. Listen to Dr. Tony Nalda's podcast for insights that can help you take control of your scoliosis. Artlist.io 847544

In the sixth of the CLAA Series for the Fresh from the Hill Podcast, CLAA board members interview the 2023 MacArthur ‘genius grant' recipient, Manuel Muñoz, MFA ‘98. In his writing, Muñoz draws on his roots growing up in a Mexican-American family of farmworkers in California's Central Valley to explore the impacts of racial politics and limited economic opportunities in this region. He tells the stories of a wide spectrum of people, including mothers and sons, U.S.-born citizens and immigrants, young gay men and teenage parents. Manuel details how his academic work at Harvard lead to him teaching young minds in Boston and how that experience led him to pursue a Master of Fine Arts at Cornell. Manuel details how mentors like Helena Maria Viramontes shaped his love for writing and his appetite for short stories. Muñoz, who is professor of English at the University of Arizona, has published three story collections, “Zigzagger” (2003), “The Faith Healer of Olive Avenue” (2007), and “The Consequences” (2022), as well as the novel “What You See in the Dark” (2011). Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Exploring Tacit Linked Premises with GPT, published by romeostevensit on March 24, 2023 on LessWrong. I've been thinking about tacit linked premises on and off for the last few years in the context of arguments about AI and longtermism. They have seemed difficult to reason about without carefully going over individual arguments with a fine toothed comb because I hadn't come up with a good search strategy. Since I wanted a test case for using chatgpt for research, I decided to try working on this particular search problem. I was able to develop a list of related key terms, a list of textbooks rich in thought experiments and generate a list of some key examples. Prompt: related terms for tacit linked premises keyterms: tacit linked premises dependent premises presuppositions background belief implicit premises hidden assumption Prompt: textbooks that cover [keyterms] This was a long list that I then libgen'd and searched for all keyterms. Following are my notes on some of the interesting patterns that surfaced or seem common to me. Marginal vs. Universal Moral Arguments The 'if everyone followed this rule' problem when what's actually on offer is you, on the margin, following the rule. Rule Enforcement Many problems seem to have a motte and bailey of not only holding to the moral rule yourself, but involving you in enforcement against those who do not hold to it. Comparison of Moral Goods Many problems seem to hand wave away that comparison of moral goods falls into the same problems as inter-agent utility comparison in general, instead making some tacit moral symmetry arguments. Underspecified Costs Cost of inference not acknowledged. Implications that people not spending time to work out implications of their own beliefs are acting immorally. Emotional and opportunity costs of living by unusual rules elided. Costs of reducing uncertainty about key parameters elided. Emotional Pain as Currency The implicit unit being how much distress various imaginary scenarios cause. Ignores the costs and second order effects from holding that as a valid form of moral inference. Symmetry Arguments Often assumed or underspecified along many dimensions through appeal to simple symmetries. Related to above via assumption of equivalent costs or that a moral duty will fall equally on people. Invariance Assumptions with Far Inferential Distance Relatedly, things far away in space or time are also far away in inferential cost and uncertainty. By transplanting arguments to distant places, times, or extreme conditions and assuming relations hold, question begging sometimes arises in assuming what the argument was originally trying to prove. Related to static world fallacy, argument in isolation problems, and hasty generalization. Naturalist Assumption That the things being compared in a moral quandary are in principle easy to bring under the same magisterium of analysis when this is unclear or what the thought experiment is trying to prove in the first place. What You See is All There Is Fallacy A fallacy in conjunction with proof by exhaustion: by dealing with all apparent objections, we are 'forced' to agree with the 'only remaining' conclusion, when the ontology of the examples hasn't proven that it logically exhausts the possible hypothesis space. a concrete example is what seemed to happen with EA and the relation between the drowning pond argument and longermist arguments. Suppose a person encounters the drowning pond argument and accepts it as generally or directionally correct. They might then reflect as follows: "Ah, I was made aware of a good I would like to purchase (lives) that is greater in utility than my current marginal use of funds! He's also the pioneer of Optimal Self Inc. and spends every day following the very habits he promotes through this program. Jeremy has helped 1,000's of people become the best versions of themselves through Optimal Self, and he's done so with the belief that every high-performing individual follows those same basic habits to support their success. Stay tuned as we listen to Jeremy's inspirational story on how one's hard work and determination can lead to success not only to your self but also how it can impact others for the better.Key Highlights: [00:00 - 14:40] Jeremy Herider's Journey from Athlete to InspirationJeremy Herider was athletic and successful at a young age, but he struggled with not being good enough. As a 13-year-old Jeremy plays baseball, and his team won the championship Jeremy didn't make the all-star team, the coach told him he wasn't good enough and how that moment changed his life.He learned that if he wants to achieve something, he has to work hard for it every day.At the age of 18, he became an All-League Player and made it to an All-Valley All-Star Team, winning his MVP during his Senior Year and was offered a scholarship to play College Baseball Today he looks back and understood what the coach meant was the truth when he said he wasn't good enough. He advises everyone to “go and earn your stripes” [14:41 - 30:10] You Are Not Always at Your Best.Jeremy Asks the listeners if you are not always at your best, ask yourself what would the best version of yourself do?Started real estate in 2001 and got his real estate license in 2004Jeremy emphasizes the importance of balance in life and being accountable.Jeremy is now in love with the “process” He added that if you have Big Goals, none of it will work if you don't go through the process.Jeremy doesn't want people to go through his failure but rather to learn from his failures.[28:48 - 36:32] It's Okay to Make Crazy MoneyIt's okay to strive for financial independence and to make a lot of money. The only way to achieve this is by knowing what that can do - it can be generational wealth or something for your family or others.Reaching for greatness changes things, and the days when it's just for you are the toughest.Giving your time inspires others to do the same, and it raises your level of gain. This creates an upward spiral of good that affects everyone.[36:33 - 42:18] How Giving Can Change Your LifeGiving time is the most valuable thing someone can giveDon't wait for motivation or inspiration, take action and start with small acts of kindness[42:19 - 50:42] You Need to Be Aware of What You See in PeopleJeremy shares his experience with a taxi driver when he and his girlfriend traveled to Cancun Mexico in June of 2020   Giving the taxi driver an extra tip made an impact on the driver that impacts Jeremy as well. Jeremy suggested, “You gotta be aware of what you see in the people.” paying attention to people's actions and giving a little can change their lives.[50:43 - 51:38] Closing SegmentReach out to JeremySee links below Final wordsResources Mentioned:Miyamoto Musashi - The Book of Five RingsTweetable Quotes:"Most people don't understand that excellence in anything will increase your potential in everything."  - Jeremy Herider“We got to be aware of what's happening around you. And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.' ”Exodus 3:14This week we will be looking at the word that one of our elders Craig Galloway shared on Sunday entitled ‘What You See is What You Get'.Firstly, Craig highlighted the importance of having a revelation of the greatness of God. It is not about us! It's about who our God is. He is so much greater than we could ever hope to understand, and yet He chooses to love us with all our faults. This change of perspective can shift the way we live our lives.Secondly, we need a revelation of Jesus. He was not just a historical figure and He is not just our friend. He is the Son of the living God. His teachings are not just good advice or a truth for some people. His words are the truth and we need to treat them as such. Finally, Craig asked us to ponder our response to this understanding of who God is. Here are some questions to help you think it over:What does it look like for you to cut out all the other voices and focus solely on what God is saying? We often place limitations on God in order to help us comprehend Him. How can you remove those limitations and allow the greatness of God to impact your life? How will you respond to society's claims about the truth that go against our understanding of God as the ‘I am'?

Release Date: 19th February 2021 Stockholm Sweden’s ‘Story Metal’ trio PRESSURE have delivered yet again with another riveting and mesmerizing track from their up-and-coming album. Right from the opening laughter and guitar riffs from the heavy guitars, the song just keeps your ears at attention and wanting more. Olof's growling but clear tone just grabs and brings you inside the track.  This single release  is from the trio's up and coming album which will be self released sometime late April, early  May.  Date and title TBA. WHAT YOU SEE (is what you get) the latest single from Pressure continues to express the ins-and-outs of life's pressures. This particular track relays the message of how society perceives people. The man centered in the song is strong within himself.  The track pushes the genre of music Pressure intends it to, which they are calling "STORY METAL".   “Story metal combines characteristics of traditional heavy metal with elements of melodic rock, with a lot of focus on the vocals! The beat varies as the mood of the song is written to reflect a true experience, challenge, emotion or occasion. “- Simon Forsell. The term Story metal was first used in 2020 by the Swedish story metal band Pressure who plays story metal with three guitars and recorded drums and bass! Story Metal definitely describes the concept of their songs and for the up-and-coming album. The work of the ‘melodic rock’ band hailing from Stockholm, Sweden often focuses and embraces the pressures felt from everyday existence. Their lyrics ably demonstrating that there are two sides to every story - the good and the bad. Every song has a double meaning and they truly see music as a tool to handle the different pressures thrown at us from the modern world.

Who is “we” in this episode? It's me and my inner voice obviously. Inner Voice and I will do some post-fugue analysis to find out what mental phenomena are at play while I make really bad assumptions about events in my surroundings. By the end of the episode maybe you'll appreciate why we're actually doing a lot better than we think we are as a society given how mistake-prone our brains are.--Credits: Written and produced by Gabriel BerezinOriginal music and sound design - Grant ZubritskyOpening and closing music: Monuments (featuring Grant Zubritsky (bass), Robby Sinclair (drums) and Bryan Murray (saxophone), Gabriel Berezin (guitar)) Editorial insight - Melissa "Monty" Montan Logo design - Justin MontanFind Fugues on Twitter and Instagram.References:Apophenia in the Queen's GambitApophenia in Stranger ThingsWacky Conspiracy Theory showing Back to the Future predicted 9/11 How Netflix uses big data to inform its contentThe Brain's Autopilot (Scientific American)Daniel Kahneman's System 1 vs 2 Thinking (article)Thinking Fast and Slow (book)Anil Seth's TED talkHow Much of What You See is Hallucination (TED Ex)Abracadabra!
