How is change truly affected and sustained? This may feel like a big, existential question, but one that is certainly worthy of asking.During this episode, I talk with Michael Ashford, director of marketing at The Receptionist for iPad.People need the autonomy to make decisions when change is being illicit-ed, and "facts don't solve fights."I discuss my former gambling addiction, how hellacious it was, and how I was able to pull myself out of it.We talk about how you can go from feeling extremely confident to feeling like "I know absolutely nothing" in a matter of moments. Michael and I discuss failure, our own definitions of it, and how it can sometimes feel like, "The End." I personally think that failure, a dose of humility, and a little bit of self-doubt are absolutely crucial, personally and professionally. This episode is deep, and we talk about some really profound existential experiences, including the importance of community and connection.Top 3 reasons to listen to the entire episode:Understand how society often rewards certainty, but true growth and change come from embracing curiosity, approaching challenges with an open mind, seeking out new perspectives, and exploring different solutions.Learn how to reframe failure and imposter syndrome as a learning experience to tap into our resilience and uncover new opportunities for growth.Identify ways to build a network of diverse, supportive, and trusted individuals who can provide feedback, guidance, and support during difficult times. It takes courage to face failure and impostor syndrome, especially when society tells you to seek certainty and avoid failure. However, if you lead with curiosity, embrace vulnerability and exploration, and welcome changes in your life, you'll be more likely to have greater personal growth and entrepreneurial success.More about Michael:Michael Ashford is a communications explorer and a tireless optimist. And they've written a paper along with Prof Dave Collins and Dr Jamie Taylor called “It depends coaching – The most fundamental, simple and complex principle or a mere copout?”. In this paper, the authors set out the arguments for Professional Judgement and Decision-Making (PJDM - the scientific representation of it depends coaching) as a genuine construct in coaching and, therefore, coach development. They do this through a critical consideration of three “pillars” or core constructs of PJDM. Namely, the concept of nested planning, the nature and use of knowledge in coaching, and the expression of expertise in coaching utilising a PJDM approach.

Ep 90: Eli Zupnick | Can more political parties solve our polarization problems?

It's nearly impossible to hear the word polarization and not immediately think of nasty political feuds. And many point to the fact that we even have political parties as the source of much of our division.   So imagine my surprise when in the course of researching my guest's background for this episode, the organization he is a part of actually takes the stance that polarization isn't always a bad thing.   My guest on this episode is Eli Zupnick. Eli is the co-founder of Fix Our House (https://www.fixourhouse.org/), an organization with a primary focus of getting proportional representation installed in the U.S. House of Representatives.   Eli's colleague and co-founder, Lee Drutman, wrote a book called Breaking the Two-Party Doom Loop. In this book, Lee explains that the United States has always had polarized political parties; however, what most don't realize is that up until the last few decades, the U.S. had actually operated within a hidden four-party system rather than the Republican-Democrat binary we see and experience today. The parties were still polarized, they just had to find ways to work together more effectively.   It's a lot to get into, but this is what Eli and Lee and Fix Our House want us to get back to … a multiparty democracy where more cooperation takes place because no party owns a dominating majority, and where more people feel represented by their government.   To learn more about Michael Ashford, visit https://michaelashford.com/

At this point you all know our stance on talking to customers and extracting insights through those conversations. But some of the common questions we still get all the time are: "what is the best way to conduct a customer interview?" "What questions should I ask?" "How do I take insights gleaned from a customer interview and inject them into my marketing strategy?" In this episode, Tory and Matt talk with Michael Ashford, Director of Marketing at The Receptionist, about how they were able to achieve exponential growth without an outbound sales team by creating a demand strategy around the insights they learned from talking with customers regularly. Divisiveness is nothing new in human culture.  Since the time of Cain and Able we have found things to argue about.  But, is there a way to reduce or even eliminate this divisiveness?  The easy answer is yes. The real answer is yes, but not easily.  We must come to grip with our own human biases and limits to know and understand.  In order to do this we must change our mindset and approach to mimic more of what we see from Christ.  In this show, we welcome Michael Ashford, the creator and host of the podcast, The Follow Up Question.  Michael has made it a point to study and learn more about how we can learn to reach across the aisle of difference and find similarities and common ground in order to build more effective relationships.  Check out the show to see what you think. https://michaelashford.com http://rocksolidfamilies.org#Rocksolidfamilies #familytherapy  #marriagecounseling  #parenting  #faithbasedcounseling #counseling #Strongdads #coaching #lifecoach #lifecoaching #marriagecoaching #marriageandfamily #unity #diversity Support the show

It is a well known problem in the course of discussions, especially when someone is having a discussion with someone with whom they disagree, that they spend more time listening with the intention of responding rather than with the desire to truly understand. I am fully aware, and can readily admit that I am personally guilty of this. Thankfully I don't do this nearly as often now as I did previously in my life. This is a battle, like so many of the bad habits that we acquire throughout our lives, that we as individuals must face and attempt to overcome. One of the best ways we can have better, more meaningful and productive conversations is by asking better questions. My guest this week has made an art form out of communicating effectively and asking incredibly insightful and meaningful questions.Michael Ashford is a former award-winning newspaper reporter, and editor of the Emporia Gazette in Emporia, Ks. His years of journalism experience sharpened his interviewing skills and taught him how important listening and asking follow-up questions is to get the full and real story. He has transferred that skill set into the podcasting space, now focusing on the power of storytelling. He is still a self-described independent journalist, digging below the surface of cliches and clickbaity headlines to uncover nuance and detail that lives within the most important issues we face these days. With Michael's podcast,The Follow-up Question, he aims to remove assumptions and opinions from the questions he asks, and instead, let his guests stories reveal themselves within their answers.Michael has a passion, as I do, for bettering the world in which we live. Whether it's through writing articles, giving an inspirationalTedX speech, or interviewing intriguing guests on his podcast, if Michael is saying it, it's well worth the time to read, watch and/or listen. What have you done today to make your life a better life? What have you done today to make the world a better place? The world is a better place if we are better people, and that begins with each of us leading a better life. Be kind to one another, be grateful for everything you've got, and make each and every day the day that you want it to be!Please follow The Derate The Hate podcast on Facebook, MeWe, Instagram, Twitter . The power of narrative. Why it's never about what you make or why you make it. It's not about selling a story; it's about telling a story. Creating a compelling narrative for your brand from the beginning Michael Ashford, director of marketing at The Receptionist, is a builder, a communicator, and a strategist. But his path has been anything but typical…from starting out as an engineering major to becoming a sportswriter and then on to project management and then ultimately the sales and marketing world, Michael considers his journey one that has prepared him for anything. He works best when demands for growth fall in the category of "it's never been done before." He enjoys being on the move, loves competition, and relies heavily on his intuition to make decisions that are then backed up by facts and data. He values authentic communication and making personal connections to better understand people and their needs.   We use the power of storytelling to build brands. Michael Ashford of the Receptionist talks about changing the company's marketing and growing amidst economic challenges triggered by Covid. Get insights from the podcast. Michael has navigated various fields before getting to where he is today. He started in the engineering field before transforming into a sports writer and plunged into project management along the way. He would then end up in the sales and marketing industry. Michael admits that his vast experience in different fields has prepared him to thrive in any field. He tells Geordie about his journey in this must-listen-to podcast. What you'll Learn Importance of working together as a team The best approach to adopt as a marketing manager Strategy Michael and his team used to identify highly valuable leads How to get a precise picture of your marketing activity Importance of reviews What to do after getting a bad review How the visitor management system works In this Episode While some organizations experienced hard times at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, others like The Receptionist thrived. However, it took a change of strategy to navigate through the hard times. Michael talks extensively about the concept behind The Receptionist. He gives an illustration of walking inside a company building as a guest or visitor, where you have to sign in to inform the authorities of your presence. Listen to the podcast for more details.  Michael joined The Receptionist some years back to help build the marketing team. The Receptionist works with numerous businesses that deal with walk-in visitors and have no front office staff, probably because they cannot afford to pay them. How the system works is that; you are a health practitioner for example, handling a client and your next client is waiting at the front office. The system lets you know that someone is waiting in the line and eliminates the need to keep walking to and from your office to find out whether you have clients waiting. Michael describes his experience when he first joined The Receptionist, which you can only understand by listening to the podcast. Regardless of the team's efforts to boost the organization's performance, none was designed under the go-forward strategy umbrella. Michael's first task was to outline everything the company was doing and bring it under one cohesive go-forward approach. Working together as a team is critical even when you are the overall manager. According to Michael, collaborating with the entire team played a significant role in boosting the organization's performance. Acquiring traffic and leads as a new company can be a difficult task. Michael says that a big percentage of their leads and traffic was from referrals and organic traffic. He mentions that the company was already excelling from an SEO point of view, and the team needed to focus on getting paid search. Michael also discusses another area they needed to focus on building, and you can get the details from the podcast. Michael explains how to get started as a marketing manager in detail. If you want to enter the marketing world, you cannot afford to skip this part of the podcast. Breaking down data and separating valuable and non-valuable leads was a straightforward process, in Michael's words. He explains how they did it, and you can get the comprehensive details from the podcast. Data is critical when defining the direction a company is taking and what the team should do to boost performance. However, Michael admits that he did not appreciate data before he ventured into the marketing field. Still, he mentions that other factors are critical for performance enhancement. Listen to the podcast to learn some of the surprises that Michael encountered along his marketing journey. When Michael joined The Receptionist, they did not have a robust strategy to get reviews. Instead, they relied on natural and organic traffic. He highlights the company's only strategy then was the post-customer drip campaign. The Reception has since evolved and adopted an advanced traffic generation approach. He talks about this concept in detail in this podcast. To acquire reviews, Michael and his customer experience representatives had to work hard and implement a solid strategy. Listen to the podcast to learn more about it. The Receptionist team values reviews and usually incentivizes clients that leave honest reviews with an Amazon gift card. Michael talks about how they address negative reviews, and you can learn about it from the podcast. He also discusses how the company operated during the onset of the pandemic down to the peak of things. How did they navigate the challenges? Listen to the podcast to find out. Michael also explains the strategy they used to keep the business afloat in detail. It would be best to listen to this part of the podcast whether you are a startup or an established entrepreneur. My name is Michael Ashford.I'm just like you. I've got a family, I've got a full-time job (as a marketing executive at a software company), and I've got my hobbies and passions. But in 2012 when I went to the beach with my wife and then-almost-2-year-old son, and my wife snapped the picture of me you see on the left, I saw the picture and was hit with the reality that I was not doing all I could to ensure I was taking care of myself — for my sake and for my family's sake.I was merely getting by, and I decided to change. In the years since, I've dedicated myself to living a healthy, active lifestyle by working out at least five times a week. I've changed my diet, for health reasons (gluten intolerance) and because so much of our health is directly linked to the foods we consume. In July 2016, I became a certified personal trainer (NASM-CPT), further enhancing my dedication to fitness and health.I want to pass my love of fitness and health on to my kids – I have a son and a daughter – and also be healthy myself so that I can live a long, fulfilling life as I grow older. I want to give other busy fathers ideas for how to remain fit and active themselves and use that lifestyle to stay involved in their kids' lives instead of checking out, as I see so many fathers doing.Fit Dad Fitness is all about equipping fathers to live an active, involved, healthy life with their children.https://www.fitdadfitness.comSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/back2basicsmode?fan_landing=true)

Unthinkable with Jay Acunzo

Every creative person is trying to make what matters. The projects and jobs they pursue, the bosses or clients they like or dislike, and the works they admire -- it all comes back to that one idea. Not "rank #1" or "drive massive growth."Make. What Matters.I believe everyone has what it takes to make what matters, but we often stop or stagnate in our creative process. So what do prolific, thriving, ever-improving creators have in common? What does a healthy body of work require to create? Well, if we stop to consider what a body of work actually is, we'll notice something tiny, something we all grapple with, and something that, when you really distill creativity down to its essence, represents the ONLY thing that matters to us as creative people. The next rep.Welcome to a new journey, where each episode, we explore stories and ideas about reaching the next rep consistently, faster, and better. Our uniqueness is our competitive advantage and our superpower. Each of us has our own talents and gifts that we can use to serve our community. However, we need to get curious about ourselves first and understand who we really are before we take on that challenge. When we can get through the uncertainty and the insecurity of life, we can own our uniqueness and tap into the power of our humanity. We can start to live our authentic life, and we can start to thrive. In this week's episode, we are sharing with you another podcast: The Follow-Up Question. Earlier this week, Rebecca Fleetwood Hession was a guest on Michael Ashford's podcast. To share the podcast love, we decided to publish that episode here this week. We will listen to Rebecca as she tells us about her passions, her thoughts, and the things she's writing about right now. She even shares a bit of her own personal story, and tells us about her book, “Business is Human.” Before founding WEThrive.live, Rebecca had a highly successful career at Franklin Covey Organization. However, after 19 years, she decided to quit and start doing her own visits. She needed the space to explore her own dreams and creativity, and today, she is doing exactly what she wants to be doing: living her authentic life and telling people's stories through WEThrive.live. In Rebecca's conversation with Michael, she discusses the human side of business and the emotional, personal, and social needs each person has. They discuss the challenges of uncertainty and imposter syndrome today as well as how to get curious about yourself. Michael and Rebecca share their love for stories and talk about the importance of communication and empathy in everyday life. To finish off the conversation, Rebecca shares how to live your most authentic life and be true to yourself even when you feel stuck. Listen in to learn more about how Rebecca is bringing humanity back into business and helping people live their most authentic life.

Michael was actually my first guest back on Episode 002, entitled How Asking For Feedback Will Make You a Better Father and Husband, which I highly recommend you give a listen to, because in that conversation not only do you get to learn a ton about Michael, but we dive deep into how men often get in their own way and if we just set our egos aside and sought feedback more often, we’d be way better off. Michael is back on today to discuss how consistency is more important than perfection, and I couldn’t think of anyone who embodies consistency more than Michael. He’s been working out consistently for 8 years and he’s only recently had to take some time off to recover from surgery. Throughout today’s conversation, you’ll learn how consistency is more important than perfection and our top 5 tips for being consistent. Specifically, we’re talking about: Goal settingDoing things when you don’t want toUnderstanding that sometimes you have to be extremeSetting reminders and small rewardsAnd making your goal a part of your identityYou’ll want to stick around to the end of the show, where you’ll hear how being consistent will not only help you achieve your fitness goals but will make you a better more present father, as children thrive when their parents are super consistent. www.trtcommunity.com www.fitdadfitness.com www.facebook.com/groups/trtcommunity brandon@trtcommunity.com Brandon: (00:03) What's going on guys? This is Brandon with the TRT community. You are listening to the All Things Testosterone Podcast and today we are talking about polycythemia/elevated hematocrit. Brandon: (00:27) Before I get into that, I want to just, uh, give a shout out to Michael Ashford of the Fit Dad Fitness podcast. He interviewed me last week. We talked for like 45 or 60 minutes or so and it really just kind of flashed me back to five years ago. It reminded me why I do this. There's an entire world of people out there that don't, that don't know anything about TRT. The only that only know what they hear they see on daytime TV commercials and you know, sometimes I get lost in the little TRT community bubble and I just take it for granted that, you know, everyone at least has knows something about it. But the reality is that there are millions or billions of people that, that think it's unhealthy or that just have never heard of it. So it was nice to talk with him and get outside of the TRT community bubble and yeah just to be able to remember that there are guys out there that are super fit and super knowledgeable but they may not be knowledgeable in TRT. So it was a pretty cool conversation. I'll let you know whenever it gets published. Brandon: (01:28) If you live in or frequent Texas and you're interested in TRT treatment text Texas to 66866. That's gonna subscribe you to the email list for our upcoming Texas clinic. I talked about it last week, but we are going to handle all Texas patients. If you're in Texas we want to handle your care. It's going to be customer service first kind of clinic and I mean that more than anything. I mean a lot of people will say it, but we are going to take care of you. We are going to be reasonably priced. We're going to be competitive with everybody else out there and we are going to answer the phone when you call. We are going to take care of you. We have knowledgeable practitioners. We know what we're doing, it's going to be amazing. Um, I'm really excited about it. Brandon: (02:13) So I did a poll on the TRT Community Facebook page and I basically asked just how many TRT patients have experienced elevated hematocrit or polycythaemia. 74% said yes, this is probably the most, if not one of the top three most common side effects to TRT and it's super easy to avoid. It can be super dangerous and it can cause your doctor to discontinue treatment if he's not super well versed in TRT. Brandon: (02:43) First let's talk about some of the issues that can arise if you have prolonged exposure to elevated hermatocrit. It's what gives you all the issues. Elevated HCT is where the heart attacks come from. That's where the strokes come from. That's where everything you see on daytime TV, you know, class action lawsuits come from. Brandon: (03:09) So it, it's dangerous. It causes blood clots and if nothing else your Dr. May stop your treatment and you definitely don't want that. So basically all it means is that your blood is thicker because you have more red blood cells and your heart has to work harder to pump the same amount of blood. So it makes sense why it can be dangerous because your heart's going to give out quicker if it's having to work harder to do the same job. Let's talk about the symptoms of it. Blurred or double vision, shortness of breath, headaches, itching, flushed, skin, tiredness and excessive sweating. My tell-tale signs are probably shortness of breath, headaches and excessive sweating. When this starts happening, I know that my hematocrit is getting up there and that I need to do something about it. Brandon: (03:59) So the simple solutions, you can drink more water and I mean a lot of water, you can eat grapefruit every day. You can try subcutaneous shots and you can do more frequent smaller doses. This sub Q and or more frequent smaller doses handles it for a lot of guys. That's all they change and they're good to go. If that doesn't do it for you, you can also donate blood. It's probably the most common way that guys handle or you know, manage it. That's what I do. I donate quarterly and that, that does it for me. Um, I just, you know, I wanted to, to be able to mention it because not only is it dangerous and you need to avoid it, but your doctor might stop your treatment, like I said, and, and you know, it's just unnecessary. Just go donate blood. Brandon: (04:43) Some guys will get hung up on crashing Ferritin by donating too often. I mean, I've always thought that's absurd. Not that it can't happen, but, you know, that's something that is even talked about when donating blood can save your life in someone else's life. But the hangup is you don't want to crash your ferritin. I mean it, it's so rare. It just doesn't happen often. It's almost like it happened to this one guy and he's just telling it to everyone. I think it's kind of ridiculous. So I wouldn't worry about that. If it becomes an issue. It's not that big of a deal. Um, but you're only donating, you know, in regular intervals of like what, 56 days anyway. So if it was going to happen to you, it could happen to other people too that donate frequently. Brandon: (05:27) So, I'm talking to BignoKnow (Noah Thomas) on Tuesday. So in just a couple of days. In fact, by the time you're listening to this, I'm, I'm probably gonna be interviewing him and I'm more excited about that interview than I have been about any interview. I love Noah. I've talked about him a lot on this podcast, so it's no secret. I was shocked to learn that only something like 20% of the TRT community listens to him or knows who he is. I mean, he, he was my version of the TRT community whenever I started TRT. He's the one that, that I got all my information from and he's just so vulnerable, so open, so honest. I really, really love that guy. So I'll be talking to him soon. Uh, yeah. Let me know what, uh, what you would change about your current TRT provider. Is it too expensive, as a service? Terrible. Um, do they not have enough extras for you, you know, the random get jacked supplements that they brand and sell to you? Or is their protocol bad? Just what are your pain points? I'd like to, with this Texas clinic and with the rest of the clinics that we plan on opening, I'd like to avoid as many as possible. So let me know, email me at brandon@trtcommunity.com. Let me know what sucks about your treatment and we'll see if we can't, um, can't come out of the gate being like the best. Anyway, I think that's it for real this time. Um, have a good week. My name is Michael Ashford. I'm just like you. I've got a family, I've got a full-time job (as a marketing executive at a software company), and I've got my hobbies and passions. But in 2012 when I went to the beach with my wife and then-almost-2-year-old son, and my wife snapped the picture of me you see on the left, I saw the picture and was hit with the reality that I was not doing all I could to ensure I was taking care of myself — for my sake and for my family's sake. I was merely getting by, and I decided to change. In the years since, I've dedicated myself to living a healthy, active lifestyle by working out at least five times a week. I've changed my diet, for health reasons (gluten intolerance) and because so much of our health is directly linked to the foods we consume. In July 2016, I became a certified personal trainer (NASM-CPT), further enhancing my dedication to fitness and health. I want to pass my love of fitness and health on to my kids – I have a son and a daughter – and also be healthy myself so that I can live a long, fulfilling life as I grow older. I want to give other busy fathers ideas for how to remain fit and active themselves and use that lifestyle to stay involved in their kids' lives instead of checking out, as I see so many fathers doing. Fit Dad Fitness is all about equipping fathers to live an active, involved, healthy life with their children.   Website: www.iCoachNutrition.com Instagram: @icoachnutrition Facebook: iCoach Nutrition YouTube: iCoach Nutrition Twitter: @JustinNutrition LinkedIn: Justin Murphy Email: justin@icoachnutrition.com

Aaron sat down with Michael Ashford of Fit Dad Fitness! A picture is worth a thousand words, and one picture in particular caused this dad (Michael) to snap! While traveling for business with his wife and son a picture of Michael shirtless on a beach was taken, his response to that picture caused a chain reaction and ultimate life transformation! Aaron and Michael discuss the obvious, which is fitness, as well as the importance of bringing the family (especially your wife) along with you on the pursuit of a vision/goal/dream. During the recording of this interview there was an uninvited guest that decided to join Aaron and Michael, it causes just a little frustration (it’s worth laughing about now). Subscribe. Download.
