First as a talent agent for celebrity comedians and then as president of his own executive search firm. Leveraging what he calls "sales expression" he has sustained excellence in the business world for over a quarter century. Tom's passion is influence, using logic and emotion to engender courage in others. It is Tom's goal to help others achieve success in sales and realize their dreams by overcoming their fears. On this episode, we spoke with Tim Keen. Tim is a LA-based marketer (originally from Melbourne, Australia, with a stint in Montreal) whose previous day job was with a touring rock band. He learned the ropes of performance marketing (the main focus of this episode) by dropshipping sex toys and bootleg Harry Potter merch. He then leveraged that experience to get his first-ever full-time job at the age of 28, which consisted of running Google Ads at MuteSix. After scaling 3 clients to 10x revenue, in 6 months, he got back into the music industry with a stint at Roland, working on digital transformation, with their Global Marketing Team. Then he accidentally co-founded a digital marketing agency, called Loop Club, and the rest is history. Loop Club has grown 10x in the year and is poised to replicate that success in 2021. 60% of Loop Club's clients have received additional funding or been acquired in the last year, and 90% have increased their revenue by at least 100%. Loop works with high-growth eCommerce brands whose values they can get behind, and are deeply committed to diversity & inclusion within Loop Club's own organization. Loop Club also dabbles in progressive politics: having ran paid media for the Nithya Raman For City Council campaign in Los Angeles, which got more votes than any city council campaign in Los Angeles history. On this episode you will hear about: How Tim went from selling a band to selling sex toys online to a full time marketing firm Why the experience, being a part of an indie band, was great What "performance marketing" is and what it isn't How you can use performance marketing in your business to scale Why performance marketing is essential to scaling a brand How performance marketing helps you to find what is actually driving real results (and how you can optimize that to scale) Why moving to the United States motivated Tim to become an entrepreneur The practical best practices that you should apply to your business (so that you can build up faster) Why measuring and optimizing your marketing plan is often a better focus for you than spending your money on marketing Why asking your clients for testimonials is of critical importance to building your business and marketing plan The reasons that you must niche your services, being tiny and specific, so that you can be the best at that offering What it was like, starting a marketing agency, during the COVID-19 Pandemic Production Credits: The Self Made Strategies Podcast is a SoftStix Productions LLC jawn. She lived to work, was exhausted, and felt weak. She was missing family events, and had been diagnosed with chronic insomnia. On this episode, you will hear the Self Made Strategies of Nick Bayer, CEO and Founder of Saxbys Coffee. Nick Bayer has always been in the business of bringing people together, whether it’s as one of Philadelphia Business Journal’s "Most Admired CEOs" or as a consummate team captain since Little League. So when he created Saxbys in 2005, Nick never really considered it to be a coffee company — instead, it’s a social impact company fueled by amazing food, beverage and hospitality. Philadelphia-based Saxbys has since grown from one corner cafe to nearly 30 units with a singular mission: MAKE LIFE BETTER. Saxbys is a hospitality business fueled by great coffee. We pair the local, friendly atmosphere of a neighborhood coffee shop with consistently delicious products you’d find at a big name coffee place. Today, that team spans over 700 members across the Northeast that represent the change-makers of tomorrow. To that point, Nick introduced Saxbys’ pioneering Experiential Learning Platform (ELP) in 2015 in partnership with Drexel University — the nation’s first entirely student-run cafe where students earn full academic credit and wages through a university cooperative education platform. Nick’s vision for the platform is to embolden the next generation of entrepreneurs, providing undergrad students with tangible experience as a supplement to traditional classroom learning. In three short years, one ELP cafe has blossomed to twelve. Nick is joining us today to discuss how he developed the concept for Saxbys, and a system that is repeatable and scalable by college students. For those of you who don’t believe millennials can pull off amazing things prepare to be blown away. NOW also available on the Self Made Strategies YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOG-mybCfvYWhoXo4vPoB5g On this episode you will hear Nick discuss: How Nick developed the idea for Saxbys Out of all the mission statements Nick could have selected, why he decided on "Make Life Better" Pitfalls and issues in developing a system that focused on college student’s essentially running the majority of Saxbys' business How to overcome the pitfalls in running a business focused on college students How Saxbys developed a system that was repeatable and transferable to students with little/no career experience Why Nick trusts student CEOs to run $1,000,000+ businesses Production Credits: This Self Made Strategies Podcast is a SoftStix Productions LLC jawn.
