Dr Bo Hendgen DO ND is the founder and CEO of Absolute Essential, a New Zealand-based company. Absolute Essential designs 100% organic, premium quality essential plant oil products of the highest therapeutic value.Born in Germany, Dr Bo grew up in France and studied aromatic medicine there. If you've never heard of it before this type of healing looks at the science of therapeutic essential oils. Additionally, Dr Bo is a naturopathic doctor, a doctor of osteopathy and holds a PhD in paediatrics. She says the first thing to remember when using therapeutic essential oils is they're powerful. As such, these aromatics – ‘concentrated substances extracted from the flowers, stems, roots, bark, leaves or seeds of a plant' – have been used for centuries. “When oils are extracted with care, their life force is maintained and can be recognised by human biology,” says Dr Bo. “Breathing in the scent of an essential oil takes it to the bloodstream via the lungs and the brain via the olfactory system. In addition, the skin (epidermis) can absorb these therapeutic oils, and they travel to your blood from there.”For this reason, essential oils should be treated as the potent forces of nature that they are.Listen as Dr Bo explains the best essential oils to use during every stage of menopause.
