Canada's recent political tensions with its neighbor south of the border have given some historians a déjà vu moment. A 19th century petition was uncovered from Toronto Public Library's archives, demonstrating Toronto's firm determination to resist annexation to the U.S. This movement was outlined in the Montreal Annexation Manifesto of 1849. While people assumed that 1983's Return of the Jedi was the end of Star Wars, Lucas would eventually prove them wrong. And after a couple of hits to his empire -notably a high profile divorce and being the spearhead/producer of a little movie called Howard the Duck- it was inevitable that he would. It's been a fun ride. But the time has come to say goodbye to the place that has been my podcast home for over seven years. Before that though, we have business to attend to. In this raw unedited podcast, Matt and myself go over our favorite films of the year (well, Matt does as I tag along), and then go over what we felt were our best retros this year. And then, for reasons we get into on the show, we say goodbye. To preview our thoughts, it has been a fun wild ride to get to this point. When I joined this site, I was a one time homeless guy trying to make my mark, eventually landing prestige jobs in coveted Hollywood studios, as well as producing my very own film and finally landing in a nice place in life. But time does weird things, and it is in the course of these years that both Matt and myself have changed, and Binge has changed along with it. I want to say thank you to Matt for tagging along and going from a college kid bitterly writing about films to a guy who has become a parent and turned into a hell of a friend. As well as continuing his bitter film reviews on our airwaves. I would also like to thank my best friend since high school Adam Bunch, who no matter what was going on in his life always lent his voice to our voice overs, and made his own presence known without dominating our time on the air. I would remiss if I didn't thank Law and Alyx, who took a chance by bringing me into their Binge family at a time when I thought I was done talking about what I love the most, which is film. I just hope I was up to your standards, as my podcast life can be attributed to you two inspiring me to do so. Most of all, I would like to thank you, the Binge listeners. Words do not describe the feelings your messages, both good and bad, have done to drive us to keep going. And yes, we ARE continuing the show, because after all, there are still major retros to do! So stand by as we get that going. We may be gone from Binge, but we will not be gone from podcasting. And do you know why we want to continue? Because of the original chance Binge Media took on us and the inspiration they continue to give us. Cheers to you all! CLICK ABOVE TO LISTEN NOW! Subscribe to Binge Cast on iTunes

Before 1984, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis were known to those who watched Saturday Night Live, rude comedies, or both. But when the little comedy called Ghostbusters, about a ghost containment system and the doofuses who run it, came out, everyone knew who they -oh, and Ernie Hudson- were. The film became a phenomenon. It helped launch the careers of all involved, inspired future ghost hunters, and even took the term 'gatekeeping' to whole new levels when in 2016 fans of the original were threatened by a bunch of females taking over their turf. So why were there only three -four- films made, and is the first film really the only good thing it inspired? Join myself, Matt, and the returning Logan James to help answer the call of just how good a franchise Ghostbusters is. First and foremost, you might notice a change in the lineup of this sequel we were building up to. The podcast addresses that, as well as Adam's Ghostbusters history, before we dig right into Ghostbusters Afterlife, Jason Reitman's sequel (or is it love letter?) to his father Ivan's Ghostbusters legacy. But is it any good? Are the cameos and numerous nods put in the film in the name of member berries enough to please the three hosts? After all, it worked sooo well with 2016's Ghostbusters remake. Two books into this whole Stephen King Retrospective (though it is in fact the third book) and we might have hit the plateau. The Shining has an interesting set of distinctions in the author's bibliography. It remains one of the author's most popular books among readers. Yet, the original film adaptation has sparked more debate than anything that has ever been adapted. Is it a question of Stanley Kubrick taking the novel's contents and changing them in the name of the author, whom Kubrick had called 'a brat'? Or, is it really one of the scariest movies ever made, and King's shots at it unwarranted? Listen in as myself, Matt, and Adam rejoin to answer some of this debate. In the 90s, if Roseanne was the queen of ABC, Stephen King was its king. By the time The Shining mini series aired in 1997, he had four full mini series that had massive ratings. So, with ABC at his disposal, he decided to do the one thing that had eluded him since Stanley Kubrick released his 1980 film. With horror fans and critics coming around to the original's horrific display, King decided it was finally time to unleash his own cinematic version of his 1977 novel, with his friend Mick Garris directing. Listen in as myself, Matt, and Adam decide if it is indeed what King had hoped. A movie that is even better than Kubrick's. The Shining (1997) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10) CLICK ABOVE TO LISTEN NOW! So what better time for the Binge Movie Aftertaste to gear up and cover a franchise that has been requested for years. Myself, Adam, and Matt are going to fire through a gun barrel the entire 26 film franchise, cultivating in a review of Cary Fukunaga's No Time To Die, which is being heralded as Daniel Craig's final bow as the character. Normally I spend this space giving bullshit behind the scenes stories in preparation for the movie review you are about to hear. For a long time now, Matt and I have been wanting to do one massive retrospective that would seem to keep building and building to an unknown number. For awhile, it was looking like Marvel was going to be that series. But after Jack and company did their three hour show on it a couple years ago, that idea went out the door. So what could we do that would could take the place of what we originally had in mind? Enter the works of Stephen King. Often called a master of horror, sometimes called a trashy populist, there is no question that King has transcended horror, and made his own brand of fiction not only popular, but the most massively successful empire of published work of all time. But in order to review the entire run of King's film adaptations, we must first look at the very first published novel of King's career, and the films it inspired. Stephen King may not have been in the stratosphere in 2013, but bullying was. Which is the angle that director Kimberly Pearce (Boys Don't Cry) takes while adapting this story that has been adapted two times already, with a 1999 sequel in tow as well. So how did this DePalma alum do in once again telling this story, and how does Chloe Grace Moretz do in filling the prom dress most famously worn by Sissy Spacek in the 1976 original? When me, Matt, and Adam started this retrospective series, Adam knew of two adaptations. The first one and the last one. He had no idea of either The Rage Carrie 2 or this, a 2002 adaptation for TV written by none other than Hannibal's own Bryan Fuller. Last week's Carrie 2 seemed to go remarkably well. So how will Adam, or my other co-host who also hadn't seen this before, feel about it? Join us we discuss this very odd entry in the Stephen King pantheon, and be sure to come back and hear how we feel about the 2013 remake next week! Before Star Wars, there was Bond. James Bond. It is a film franchise that has inspired everyone in in the industry from Steven Spielberg to Christopher Nolan to Rian Johnson. Eight actors have (unofficially) played the character over its almost sixty years in existence. And there is another one coming out this April. After Quantum of Solace, the James Bond franchise was once again at a stand still. Sure, they had their most well regarded pure actor in the role receiving a ton of accolades. But to say the second movie didn't live up to the potential of its previous entry would be an understatement. And once again, MGM was on the verge of losing to the IRS in the form of bankruptcy. Yet, the Broccolis found a way to not only greenlight another film with Daniel Craig in the lead, the also got Oscar winner Sam Mendes to helm the movie. Skyfall was born and, when released, garnered almost as many good notices as Casino Royale, with 007 pundits predicting Oscar wins for their beloved secret agent. While gold statues in the major categories still alluded them, Skyfall did not come up short in the box office department, making over $1 billion in its initial run. Do we feel the huge box office is warranted? Listen to find out! We also talk about when Mendes came back in 2015 to direct Spectre. This time they were armed with an Oscar winner in the role of Bond villain Franz Oberhauser. Or were they? Listen in as we spew a review in which we dissect a movie that was praised by many (including at least one person on this podcast) as being among their most anticipated of the year. Did it live up to the hype? We would again like to thank one and all who took this Bond journey with us, and as a reminder, we will in fact give a week of release review of No Time To Die when it is finally released to theaters. After Die Another Day broke franchise box office records, star Pierce Brosnan was all set to reprise the role once again. But the problem was, producers weren't ready for him. On top of developing the ill fated Jinx spinoff movie, financial difficulties once again reared their ugly head. But something happened that changed the course of the James Bond franchise forever. The rights to Casino Royale were finally in Eon's hands. On top of that, the recently rebooted Batman franchise, now in the hands of Bond fan Christopher Nolan, was setting box office records of its own. So Brosnan was out, Daniel Craig was in. Who you may ask? Well, that's what audiences asked until Casino Royale made its debut on movie screens in 2006. But great word of mouth helped it surpass those box office takes of Batman Begins, and James Bond was now accepted by more than just action fans. People spoke about Casino Royale as if it deserved Oscars. Listen to our podcast to hear if we agree. Now with a new star waving the PPK, producers were quick to greenlight a sequel. But instead of just their own financial struggles (the sequel's budget was 'slashed' to $250 million) Bond was once again hit with a writer's strike. Going into The World Is Not Enough, James Bond was once again in a position where he needed to prove himself. Tomorrow Never Dies, while not a flop, didn't exactly set the world afire. On top of that, Eon were determined to get their movie released no later than the end of 1999, right before the millennium. Coming back from the drawing board, producers decided the director of Nell and Denise Richards were the answers to their problems. Listen to hear if we agree. By the time 2002 rolled around, everyone from Jason Bourne to Vin Diesel were predicting James Bond to be dead, as to them he was the ancient dinosaur that M declared him to be in Goldeneye. With For Your Eyes Only, Agent 007 proved once again that he was here to stay. But there was a new problem on the horizon. After winning a long awaited lawsuit giving him certain rights to the original story behind Thunderball, Kevin McClory was now free to make his version of the story starring Sean Connery entitled Never Say Never Again. But instead of replacing their aging star Roger Moore, Eon decided to have him front their 1983 movie Octopussy. Even if Eon won the box office war that ensued, do we think it was a warranted victory? We then move on to a movie which had all the makings of a huge success. With recent Oscar winner Christopher Walken and eccentric Grace Jones cast as villains, Eon returned to the screen with 1985's A View to a Kill. After ruling the 60s and thriving in popularity through the 70s, James Bond hit the 80s running with For Your Eyes Only. Armed with a returning Roger Moore, a new director and an earworm opening theme performed by Sheena Easton, the movie came and proved that Agent 007 was hotter than ever. But will the three of us already be suffering from Bond fatigue and turn against it? Then we have the second and (for now) final non Eon entry in the franchise. After the critical and semi commercial failure of The Man With The Golden Gun, the future of the James Bond franchise was in jeopardy. But the Broccolis weren't ready to hang it up yet. The signed Roger Moore to another soundtrack and got the script to The Spy Who Loved Me up and going. The conversation then moves on to one of the most notorious movies in the entire series. Myself, Adam, and Matt are going to fire through a gun barrel the entire 26 film franchise, cultivating in a review of Cary Fukunaga's No Time To Die, which is being heralded as Daniel Craig's final bow as the character. After Diamonds Are Forever came and went, Sean Connery AGAIN made it clear that he was done playing James Bond (stay tuned). Now producers had no choice but to change actors, and they eventually decided on 45 year old Roger Moore. Featuring a more lanky body and rapid wit, this Bond was different. Yet armed with a Paul McCartney sung title song, Live and Let Die grossed over $160 million at the box office, making it clear that the public was once again starved for Bond. Did it leave us full as well, or did we feel served an empty meal? We then move on to the Christopher Lee title villain starring The Man With The Golden Gun. Even if it features one of the most famous props in Bond history, the movie doesn't have that high a rep in Bond circles. Will henchman Herve Villechaize put us over the edge and rise to the occasion? Listen to find out! We are getting closer! Stay tuned, as all these podcasts are leading up to a review of the brand new James Bond film No Time To Die in April. Sean Connery was adamant that despite the major success of You Only Live Twice, he was done playing the James Bond character forever. Therefore, producers found their new Bond, this time in a chocolate commercial. George Lazenby was next to don the tux for 1969's On Her Majesty's Secret Service. A movie that is either loved or hated, depending on which Bond fans you ask. But what about us? Listen in as we dissect the much debated film, and wonder why Lazenby was a one and done taker of the role. Then, listen to us as we talk about how Connery pulled the biggest 'fooled you' moment of the series so far and once again played Bond in 1971's Diamonds Are Forever, the first Bond entry of the 70s. With a certified star in the lead and everything Eon putting out with James Bond making money, the franchise was on a roll. Despite taking a long time to get made and legal troubles following it, Thunderball was a certified hit, and Eon was anxious to keep the ball rolling. But Sean Connery was out in the press saying that You Only Live Twice was for sure going to be his last time wielding the Walther PPK. Does the movie once again defy the odds? And then we get to. With a rising star and hugely popular young adult series of books -let’s not forget the Twilight in the room- it would seem that The Hunger Games was set to become a phenomenon. But to prevent the fate of future failed series Divergent, the people at Saw studio Lionsgate not only employed original author Suzanne Collins to help pen the script and produce, they also got a well renown director in Gary Ross and an $80 million price tag to kick things off in blockbuster fashion. But would the series continue on its path, and will Garrett, Adam, and Matt enjoy the journey through all four films of the series? Working off one book, Lionsgate saw dollar signs when The Hunger Games: Catching Fire far exceeded box office expectations, Lionsgate controversially decided to split said book into two parts. As a book, it is agreed upon that Mockingjay is a far departure from what came before it. But how do we feel about how the two films based upon it come off?
