Another venture into the sports universe with yours truly as I share the latest episode with plenty to dive into. On deck: (2:50) We're just days away from the AFC & NFC Championship Games. I'm going with a different tact to uncover the perspective of each team heading into Sunday's games. Is this Lamar Jackson's time to take his team to the promised land? Are the Chiefs playing with house money as a defending champion? Will the Lions finally get to their first Super Bowl with destiny, possibly on their side? And how much pressure is on Niners coach, Kyle Shanahan, to get back to and win the whole thing? I'll get into all of that and share my analysis of what may come as we're one step closer to Super Bowl LVIII. There's big news coming out of LA as Jim Harbaugh is the new Chargers coach. Will his presence not only bring them back to respectability, but also become an elite team in the sport? And what's the latest with Bill Belichick? Is he going to end up in Atlanta? Why did they ask for a second interview? (30:06) The Milwaukee Bucks have had an interesting week. The front office dismissed first year coach Adrian Griffin due to their ineptitude on defense. They bring in Doc Rivers as a replacement. Is he the right guy for this job? The Heat make a good trade (Terry Rozier) but is he a fit for the Heat Culture in Miami? What about the championship aspirations for the Minnesota Timberwolves, as well as, the Oklahoma City Thunder? I know we're just past the halfway point of the season, but are they in this for the long haul? How about the Phoenix Suns moving up the standings out West? And Joel Embiid's 70 point game the other night are some of the things I unpack as I check on what's happening in the Association. (42:48) On the ice, the Edmonton Oilers are clicking on all cylinders, winners of 14 in a row. At some point they'll cool off, but can this team make some noise and become a Cup contender? Vancouver, Winnipeg and Colorado have played well during this recent stretch. And there's an accusation of a handful NHL players involved in an alleged sexual assault dating back to 2018 which has a bad optic at the moment as I'll bring the latest of what's going on in the NHL. (50:01) We're down to the final few days of the Australian Open. On the men's side, Carlos Alcaraz has been beaten by Daniil Medvedev in four sets, thwarting another opportunity to have an epic showdown with Novak Djokovic. Was that a blow to the tennis fan? As for the women's side, Coco Gauff was unable to win back to back Grand Slams as she lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals. Is it tough for the US tennis fan to not have much to root for? I'll stay on top of who'll win down under as we'll revisit this on Monday's podcast. (53:07) The Baseball Writers of America (BBWA) have elected Adrian Beltre, Joe Mauer and Todd Helton, leaving out Billy Wagner, Gary Sheffield among others. Did they choose the right three guys? Who belongs? Who doesn't? Please subscribe, leave a rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Audacy, Amazon Music and iHeartRadio or wherever you get your podcasts. Reviewing the AFC/NFC title games- wow what a 2 weekends of football! The Bengals drafted Joe Burrow, spent money on their defense but even they could have predicted the Kansas City Chiefs fall from grace, it felt like they pressed pause on their almost-dynasty and simply went home. The Rams/49ers game was brutal and hard fought with two agents of chaos at it's center, Jimmy G and Matt Stafford. The Rams get through by having the more positive chaos, and Jimmy G surely will give way to the 3rd Overall Elephant on the sideline.

Get ready for an action packed, fast paced, sports podcast party as Episode #235 delivers that and then some with all that's taking place in the world of competition. On deck: (4:25) The NFL experienced the best Divisional Round in the history of the playoffs, where three of the four teams won on the road in the final seconds and the fourth was a game for the ages! First up, was the horror show of coaching and quarterbacking by Mike Vrabel & Ryan Tannehill of the Tennessee Titans as they were upset at home by the cool, calm and collected Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. Next, was the Green Bay Packers imploding at home as Aaron Rodgers couldn't deliver in the clutch, same for their special teams as the 49ers escape out of Lambeau Field with a big time road victory by their stout defense and some key throws by QB, Jimmy Garoppolo. What's next for Aaron Rodgers? Is this it for him in Green Bay? The Rams jumped out to a big lead in Tampa, but slowly and surely gave it back due to a few costly turnovers to draw the Buccaneers even. In the end, it was Matthew Stafford's connection to his safety blanket, Cooper Kupp as they marched down the field as time was expiring and hit the go ahead field goal at the final gun. So the defending champions are dethroned as Stafford outplayed Brady, the Bucs defense was awful and now the questions will arise...is this is for Tom Brady? Just when we thought the three games prior were tough acts to follow, the Bills & Chiefs played an epic, classic playoff game to top them all. It was a near flawless game with only four penalties flagged, zero turnovers, A+ play from both QB's (Josh Allen & Patrick Mahomes) lead changes late in the game, a botched kickoff by Buffalo with :13 seconds left, another final second field goal in regulation. Then the clincher as the Chiefs win it with a TD in OT, which brings up an interesting topic...should both teams get the ball in OT no matter what happens? KC's grit and talent rises to the top. As for the Bills, as heroic as Josh Allen and WR Gabriel Davis was, a long offseason of 'what if's' will be replayed over and over as they were thisclose from hosting the AFC Title Game in their building. I'll preview both Conference Championship Games, the intrigue and storylines of the 49ers-Rams. Why I don't like the Bengals this time around vs. KC? What would be the best possible Super Bowl matchup be? And some off the field news regarding personnel on some teams throughout the league. (1:07:06) The Bulls have suffered a couple of injuries to their roster as they lose their standing as the top dog in the East, but the Association is rather quiet as we approach the end of January. (1:08:52) The same could be said in college basketball as Gonzaga still has the #1 seed in the country as there were no major upsets in the sport over the past week. It's looking as if we're going to have a wide open March Madness which isn't for another month and a half. (1:09:41) Sadly, I'll remember one of the great New York Islander players who passed away too soon as Clark Gillies died this past Friday. I'll go over how tough and what type of player he was, what he meant to this historic Islander team and the mark he left on those he touched after his playing days were over. Also, the schedule makers have revamped the games that were lost in the early part of the year due to COVID, as well as, taking a look to catch up on what's happening out on the ice. (1:16:11) The players will step in on Monday (today) and propose their deal to the owners as they try their best to get something done with pitchers and catchers scheduled to report in three weeks. Is there hope for any progress as February nears? MLB did one smart thing. Not having the Rays split their seasons with the city of Montreal which would've been disastrous for the sport. (1:19:58) I'll have the latest update with what's going on in the Australian Open. It looks like the #1 seed in Ash Barty on the women's side is the favorite to win it all at the moment. Rafael Nadal is still alive on the men's side. Does he have a chance to get to his 21st career Grand Slam win? (1:22:02) I'll briefly touch on the heavyweight MMA bout between Francis Ngannou vs. Cyril Gane as Ngannou unifies the UFC heavyweight title. Did the match live up to the hype? (1:23:55) In closing, my Hero and Zero of the Week. Set to close out the first month of the new year with nothing but passionate filled, fast paced sports talk, Episode 175 delivers the goods and then some. On deck: (3:28) The main themes of the AFC/NFC Title Games are coach Matt Lafleur's awful decision to kick a field goal as opposed to going for a potential tie. Brady's magic carries him to a record 10th Super Bowl. The Bills not ready for primetime and business as usual for the Chiefs. I'll go in-depth on both games, the storylines for Super Bowl LV, Tony Romo's honeymoon is long over. CBS gets their Super Bowl matchup wish! Also, the latest on Deshaun Watson in Houston. Eric Bieniemy's head coaching opportunity, what's left of Matthew Stafford? Is Philip Rivers a Hall of Famer? Lots to dissect as the NFL season comes down to its final game. (54:20) The NBA season is a month in as I'll discuss the surprises and disappointments so far. Why I agree with Shaquille O'Neal regarding his comments directed at Jazz guard, Donovan Mitchell? And the Clippers psyche when it really matters are among the topics I'll touch on. (1:05:14) An update on college basketball as Michigan will be suspended athletics due to a new coronavirus strain. Kansas loses three straight games for the first time in eight years and the latest on former powerhouses Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky. (1:08:55) Remembering the life of the immortal Henry Aaron and Don Sutton. There's been some hot stove activity as I'll express my thoughts on George Springer going to Toronto, the Yankees bolstering their starting rotation and why the Mets not getting Brad Hand for their bullpen didn't have me up in arms? (1:21:41) The NHL dealing with COVID as the Hurricanes and Capitals deal with not either playing or having their big stars (i.e. Alex Ovechkin) in the lineup for the next week or so. (1:25:34) Conor McGregor loses in his return to the Octagon. What lies ahead for the embattled fighter? And why did he retire in the first place? (1:29:36) Lastly, my Hero and Zero of the Week. As we celebrate the late, great Dr. Martin Luther King, if your dream is to listen to top notch, fast paced sports talk, then you've come to the right place as Episode 174 is primed to deliver. On deck: (3:11) The Packers take care of business. The Bills swarm Lamar Jackson. The Chiefs escape, but not without losing star QB, Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady is back in another Championship game setting. I'll preview Conference Championship Sunday with some burning questions that need to be answered. Is this the end for Drew Brees? Will Urban Meyer cut it in Jacksonville? Has Deshaun Watson played his last game in Houston? (45:03) Are the 2020 Alabama Crimson Tide the best college football team ever? I have a team that's just ahead of them in my book. I'll explain. (47:49) The many layers of the James Harden trade to Brooklyn. His behavior and subsequent exit from Houston? Did the Nets sell their souls to NBA hell? Where and how does Kyrie Irving fit in? Is Harden clutch enough in the postseason? I'll share a few other newsworthy notes throughout the Association as well. (1:03:46) I'll spend a second on how former Georgetown guard Mac McClung has made an impact at his new school with Texas Tech? (1:04:17) The NHL season is five days old and the Dallas Stars have yet to play a game because of the coronavirus! Also, the two game series schedule could either bolster the league (i.e. think rivalries) or bottom out (playing the same teams over and over)? (1:06:39) The MLB Hot Stove has been predominantly cool, but there were a couple of big signings, especially in the Bronx with DJ LaMahieu and two time Cy Young award winner, Corey Kluber. I'll share my thoughts on that. (1:09:57) Guess who's back? After a brief retirement, Conor McGregor is scheduled to fight on Saturday vs. Dustin Poirier. Does anyone care? Jake and I go around the NBA here at the halfway mark of the season, right before he heads halfway around the world for 3 weeks. Curry, Harden, Boogie Couz is back, Westbrook, Giannis, Lakers without LeBron, Paul George, Kyrie and the Celtics? So much amazing NBA action right now, and the Sixers are no exception. Embiid is playing amazing and Simmons is an all star too! Reddick, Jimmy, Shamet and Corey Brewer! Three of the "dirty dozen" stretch of the season are out of the way and we went 2-1, not a bad start!

Rob and Dave are back with an old standby: the improvised sports TV pilot idea. It's "Pitch" meets "The Replacements" meets "Draft Day" with a whole bunch of other weird stuff thrown in there. And if you'd like to steal it, the guys kindly ask that you don't? Honor system, folks. Plus, Dave has the drop on an epic reverse jinx to make sure the Chiefs crap the bed, and Rob is a firm believer that everyone in the NFC is a big old fraud. There's a bit of tennis legend talk, but mostly, it's just an improvisation away from selling an idea to CBS and insta-fame. Join us!
