On this episode of The Marketing Rapport, Tim Finnigan talks with Andy Davidson, Chief Data & Analytics Officer at Bright Mountain Media, about the importance of market research. Andy explains how Bright Mountain helps brands personalize outreach and services using data-driven insights. He reveals the disconnect between research and activation, where audience specifics get lost during campaign execution. Andy highlights the need to understand diverse market needs. Effective research identifies distinct customer groups and their unique requirements. This data allows personalized messaging and targeted campaigns, avoiding the wasteful "spray and pray" method. He shares client examples, like a Caribbean travel destination, where targeted audience strategies led to success. And the weirdest thing is, Andy might be starting to believe her.

The last episode before Halloween and it's suitably about my favourite book of the year: Andy Davidson's The Hollow KindAndy is the Stoker-nominated author of In the Valley of the Sun and The Boatman's Daughter. The Hollow Kind is his third book and it packs a lot into its 400 pages. It's as dense and weighty as an imploding paper star. It's a haunted house story (of sorts), a creature feature (of sorts) and a whole lot of Southern Gothic of many kinds. The prose is lush and wow, does Andy know a lot about the history of Georgia both human and natural. We talk about that, as well as the link between industry and horror, the allure of extreme violence, and the sheer delight of finding a map at the front of a book. Plus, we go a little deeper than usual into the nature and origins of the evil at the heart of the story.Enjoy and have a happy Halloween my horror-loving siblings! The Hollow Kind was released on October 11th by MCD Other books mentioned in this episode include:The Boatman's Daughter (2020), by Andy DavidsonConvulsive (2022), by Joe KochAbsalom, Absalom! In this episode of the New York Times Book Review podcast, Nora Ami reviews Andy Davidson's horror novel 'The Hollow Kind', and E.M. Tran's debut, 'Daughters of the New Year'. 'The Hollow Kind', set in 1989 Georgia, explores themes of legacy, greed, and the tension of unseen malevolence. 'Daughters of the New Year', set in 2016 New Orleans, revolves around second-generation immigrant sisters balancing their American lives with their heritage. Both novels confront generational curses and how the past inexorably influences the present.

Today, Sima welcomes Andy Davidson from the Engine Group as her guest. Andy is the Head of Analytics and Data Strategy at Engine. The Engine Group The Engine Group is a full-service marketing services firm specializing in a range of things from insights and analytics to planning and content and distribution. Background Andy has been with the Engine Group for about two years. Before that, he spent twenty-five years in various assignments across research analytics and data science. He worked on the client-side as well as on the agency side. His focus has been on helping advertisers and their agencies in addressing business problems with data analytics. He spent a lot of time helping his clients develop marketing strategies. And then personalizing the customer experience and measuring those efforts in the returns they are getting. Engine specializes in three areas Insights and analytics: This function supports both advertisers and agencies in making better decisions using data and analytics. Planning and content: These are about creative and media strategy and media planning. Distribution: Engine owns a proprietary ad exchange. They have relationships with a lot of the publisher networks. Through that capability, they can place media programmatically for much of the market. That includes both the agencies and the advertisers directly. A combination of services The Engine Group has a combination of services, from a data and analytics perspective and a distribution perspective, that many other firms in their arena don’t normally have. That creates a seamless experience for their customers. Their clients are increasingly becoming multiple threads. They also have plenty of more single-threaded situations. There are some key challenges in the ad space When it comes to audience targeting, media campaigns don’t always reach where they are supposed to. That can happen as often as fifty percent of the time. At Engine, they recognize that challenge, and they have invested a lot in helping their clients overcome it. Data The targeting challenge, at its core, is a data and analytics problem. Data is behind every decision that an advertiser makes around bidding on an opportunity, whether it is a video ad, a display ad, or a CTV-type impression. Accurate data That data is usually pretty accurate when it comes to straight-forward behaviors, like past purchases and demographics. Where things tend to fall apart Things tend to fall apart, and problems become apparent in the area where advertisers spend a lot of money. That area includes attitudes, intentions, and sentiments in the softer type of targeting requirements. A huge opportunity All the requirements around attitudes are a huge opportunity. At Engine, the focus is on investing in solutions that build a better cross-walk between the people who the advertiser wants to reach and the people to whom the advertising gets sold to reach that goal. Programmatic media Programmatic media is all about understanding who you are looking at and what their attitudes and behaviors are. No validation There is no validation for many of the data solutions out there, particularly those related to attitudes. Improving precision At Engine, they are working in the opportunity area of data solutions to improve precision. They do that by building from the ground up using survey research, starting with the voice of the customer. The measure of success Their success can get measured by comparing the legacy model with the new model to see how many more people they have reached in a particular segment. Their best measure of success is whether or not they got to the person they wanted to get to. Their success can also be measured by whether or not the campaign ultimately had the expected effect. The future of ad measurement The future of ad measurement looks very exciting for Andy. We will soon reach the point where most things are connected.

Feedback For horror westerns: In the Valley of the Sun by Andy Davidson, Hunger by Alma Katsu (rec'd by Emily) Questions 1. Hello to the good people at Get Booked! My beautiful wife Amy is turning 40 next week (May 8th) and one thing she has asked for is a book recommendation from your podcast! Amy is a mindful and devoted mother of two who puts honesty, integrity, and her children's well-being above all else. She's a writer and a dancer, a lover and a dreamer, an artist and a baker. She's also a reader. An avid reader who's love of prose has skyrocketed in the last few years. Amy has recently discovered a love for YA novels. To quote Amy, "I like how they capture specific sentiments and feelings that are unique to young people. The characters don't always have adult reactions and it's interesting to see how they will express themselves. The writing doesn't need to be overly literary because that's not how to best represent the stories. I am interested in the unique space that YA occupies and all the YA books I've read recently have been excellent. Eleanor and Park, and Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, and Social Intercourse by Greg Howard are recent stand outs." But Amy loves more than YA. She also enjoys grown up and intelligent "literary" books that feel like works of art. Again, to quote: "I remember a moment reading The Goldfinch when I felt the plot slowed down and then I felt really excited thinking 'what if the rest of the book only explores this one little moment in time' - it became more about appreciating the beautiful writing." Amy is currently reading On the Come Up by Angie Thomas and The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman on audio (because she loves the movie Practical Magic and this book is about the aunt characters). She would also like you to know that when she hears the phrase “historical fiction” her eyes glaze over Any recommendations you could make to Amy would be greatly appreciated by herself and me and would certainly make this already monumental birthday even more special. Thank you very much! We look forward to your recommendation! -Dylan 2. Hi guys, I'm going on a ten hours train ride this friday, and then the next monday as well. (going to Toronto for the Comics Festival). I'd like something to read on my kobo during the train ride, something that would be light and fun. I enjoy queer fantasy and sci-fi in which no one dies and fairytale retellings with a (non dark) twist! -Marie 3. I have a background in archaeology and art history, and am a huge fan of stories related to art theft or crimes in museums, etc. One of my favorite movies of all time is The Thomas Crown Affair. I was wondering if you could recommend any novels of this type? Thank you so much! -B 4. I'm on a quest to find some appropriate audiobooks for a 14 hour road trip with my nieces (8 and 11) at the end of June. I want something exciting/engaging for both of them. The older one loves fantasy (she's making her way through HP atm), but the younger of the 2 can be sensitive with monsters, ghosts, etc. Ideally, I'd like to find something with diverse characters, a little magic, and a great narration. Bonus points if it's a first of a series, so they can continue on if they love it. -The Cool Bookish Auntie 5. Hi all, I’m going to Spain in JUNE! I was looking for some books that I could go to the places in them. I'll be hitting up the major cities, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville. I am going to try to fit in Morocco and Portugal as well, so Lisbon and Porto, Rabat and Tangier... But Spain. Preferably fiction that will just take place in these places. My favorite author is VE Schwab, and I loved loved loved The Rook/Stiletto. -Rianna 6. My grandmother is in her nineties and still enjoys a great mystery. She dislikes books with explicit language or graphic sex and violence, but is also not particularly into "cozy" mysteries or faith-based fiction. She especially enjoys the "curmudgeonly detective in the country" genre. She is a fan of the Bruno series by Martin Walker, and is particularly fond of Agatha Christie's Poirot books. Please help me find some great new authors for her! -Beth 7. I've only recently discovered the podcast but have absolutely fallen in love with it in that time! Thank you for all the work you guys put into making it great. Growing up I used to love fiction, especially fantasy and sci-fi, but as an adult I've found myself struggling to get into most fiction and instead find myself, as an avid history fan, gravitating towards non-fiction. However, I desperately want to broaden my horizons and recapture some of the magic which I found in fantasy novels as a child. I'm looking for a fantasy novel where the focus is on the political intrigue and manoeuvring, like Game of Thrones, and less on the more fantastical elements of the world, such as other fantasy races etc, though of course some amount of that is okay. Looking forward to hearing your recs and thanks for the help! -Andrew Books Discussed The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner (TW gun violence) The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. For the latest podcast Ali met up with the American novelist Andy Davidson before his event at The Edinburgh International Book Festival. In an ironically dreich Charlotte Square the two discuss Andy's terrific debut novel 'In The Valley Of The Sun' which is out now on the Contraband imprint of Saraband books, and which is one of the best of the year so far. It's a fascinating chat about influences and ideas, genre fiction vs literary fiction, horror writers and films, the importance of character, and why, in terms of writing, there really is no place like home. They also talk about the differences in publishing in the US as opposed to the UK. For anyone with an interest in writing, or reading, it's a must listen.
Andy Davidson spent much of his career on Wall Street and saw first-hand what happens when consumers lack basic financial skills. What he saw inspired him to create a course that teaches personal finance through mathematics. And thus, FiCycle was born! Hear how he describes the rationale behind the three pillars of his curriculum, the importance of scaffolding and what this entrepreneur has learned along the way. Listen closely as Andy espouses the virtues of bringing more math into your financial education course. Enjoy!
“You had it comin’” Leon, Darren, Karl and Tony embark on a whistlestop tour of Team 17’s prolific ballistic battler franchise, Worms. Tunneling through from Andy Davidson’s original Scorched Tanks-inspired Total Wormage, all the way […] The post Worms series – Cane and Rinse No.317 appeared first on Cane and Rinse.

Suddenly everyone knows what you've done. And they know what you'll do. 5.11 Escape Room by Helen Goldwyn Gwen Cooper, Rhys Williams, and the Colchester-Prices go to try out an escape room. Something terrible's happened to the city. With every day getting darker, will Torchwood need to adopt a whole new approach? 5.5 Love Rat by Christopher Cooper Captain Jack Harkness is dead, and that’s the simplest thing that’s happened to him in the last few days. Even the manner of his death is surprisingly complex, especially when it turns out that he hasn’t come back alone. While Torchwood try and cope with a new mayor and a terrorist cell, they also have to deal with what, at first, looks to be a plague, and then turns out to be something far, far worse. 5.6 A Kill to a View by Mac Rogers Ritz Towers is a luxury tower block so exclusive not even aliens can get a place there. Mr Colchester has somehow secured a flat at the Ritz. With the streets increasingly troubled, his husband feels safe there. The problem is that Ritz Towers is anything but safe. It causes an upsurge in terrorist attacks. An innocent refugee has been shot point-blank on the streets of Cardiff by a policeman. It’s a catalyst for protests in the streets.
