Motherhood and Longing' are strong threads in this edition of A Flow of Words. Eileen Donnellan looks back on times past in 'Longing'. Written by the late Lorraine O' Byrne and read by Maggie Bresson we follow Carrie into an old house and an experience that raises more questions than answers in an excerpt from 'I Will Find You'. All eyes on the prize in Patricia Donnellan's 'Mother Goose' however the threat to the goslings may come from a different source. And Christine Baldock's young daughter yearns for independence and convinces her mother that she is 'A Big Girl Now' as she spreads her wings. With excerpts of music from Brian Crosby, Maria Kelly and The Pogues Mountshannon Arts is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland and Clare County Council.

In this Film Ireland podcast, Gemma Creagh talks to Alan Gilsenan, Director of Ghosts of Baggotonia. Ghosts of Baggotonia is a haunting and visually captivating film-poem exploring the literary and other ghosts of the bohemian quarter bordering Dublin's Baggot Street during the mid-20th century. “Baggotonia” as it has become known – was both a permeable geographic area and a cultural movement, populated by writers, artists and other intellectuals living an anarchic life at odds with the over-arching drabness and the conservative mores of the time. Inspired by a rare collection of photographs from artist Nevill Johnson, the film is shot in starkly beautiful Leica monotone and draws upon writings from the period, including Patrick Kavanagh, Elizabeth Bowen, Samuel Beckett, Blanaid Salkeld, John Montague, Eavan Boland, Paul Durcan, Ethna McCarthy, Thomas Kinsella amongst many others. This stunning film is also an act of psycho-geography as well as a personal meditation on Alan Gilsenan's childhood, where he grew up amidst the ghosts on the mythical Raglan Road. His own poetic script frames the film – voiced by Gilsenan himself and Camille O'Sullivan – and features a remarkable original soundtrack from composer Brian Crosby (formerly of Juniper, The Cake Sale & Bell XI). Ghosts of Baggotonia is in cinemas from 9th December 2022.

Last month, to the surprise of many, the United States Senate passed, by voice vote, a measure that would keep Daylight Saving Time year round. No more falling back in November and springing forward in March. The bill still has to clear the House. Neither Speaker Nancy Pelosi nor President Biden has said whether or not they support it. We tried this once before. In 1974, Congress tried permanent Daylight Saving Time in an effort to save energy, by increasing daylight hours at the end of the day. Americans hated it, and we've been changing our clocks twice a year ever since. Recent polling, however, indicates much broader support for the idea. Today on Midday, a conversation about the merits and pitfalls of permanent daylight saving time, or the counter proposals: making standard time permanent, or staying with the system we've got. We begin our discussion with a Delegate from the Maryland General Assembly who has introduced a bill that would keep the clocks set to Daylight Saving Time all year in Maryland.Del. Brian Crosby represents District 29B, in St. Mary's County. He's a Democrat who serves as the vice chair of the Economic Matters Committee in the House of Delegates. Delegate Crosby joins Tom on Zoom from St. Mary's County. Later in the hour, Tom talks with Dr. Beth Ann Malow, a professor of neurology and pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center who has studied what happens when we switch back and forth between standard and daylight time. She's also the director of Vanderbilt's sleep division. Dr. Malow joins us on Zoom from Nashville, Tennessee. Then, for another perspective on the issue of making Daylight Saving Time permanent, Tom speaks with Lisa VanBuskirk. She's the Maryland and Anne Arundel County chapter leader of Start School Later,a nonprofit advocacy group that is concerned with kids starting their school day in the dark. Lisa VanBuskirk joins us on Zoom… See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

"How do I become an Imagineer?" Not surprisingly, it's one of the most common questions I'm asked on Imagineer Podcast. As I've continued to interview Walt Disney Imagineers, I've found there's no easy answer to this question, but there are a few pieces of wisdom that can help get you started, whether you want to work with this legendary Disney team as an engineer, artist, architect, programmer, project manager or beyond. Brian Crosby is the current Creative Director of Marvel Themed Entertainment for Disney, and it's a role he was practically destined to hold. Growing up near Disneyland in Southern California, Brian developed both a Disney and Marvel fandom from an early age. After winning the Imaginations competition from Walt Disney Imagineering, Brian began as an Imagineering intern before making the jump to a full-time role, where he spent the next decade of his career. A few years after the Marvel acquisition, Brian made the jump to working in Marvel Themed Entertainment, where he currently ideates how to bring Marvel characters and stories into the real world, both at the Disney Parks and beyond the berm. In this podcast episode, I chat with Brian about his Marvel and Disney fandom, his work on projects like the Iron Man Experience at Hong Kong Disneyland and Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout at Disney California Adventure, and his more recent work at Marvel. WDW Radio # 541 - Interview with Brian Crosby, Creative Director of Marvel Themed Entertainment I’m excited to be joined this week by my friend, and fellow Disney and Marvel geek Brian Crosby. Today, he is the Creative Director for Marvel Themed Entertainment, and he will share his story back from when he was a comic-loving kid with a dream, and how it led him to his roles as a Disney artist, helping to launch the Disney Kingdoms line of comic books, and the many projects he worked on at Walt Disney Imagineering. Brian will share how he came to work for Marvel, and his current role in the Marvel universe. On this episode of KSL's beyond the badge, we honor Officer Brian Crosby of the Lehi Police Department. When a young boy left a bike at school, he returned to find his bike completely vandalized and unrideable. When Officer Crosby reviewed the footage he found the vandals threw the bike up against the wall. Officer Crosby and the rest of the police department all chipped in and bought the boy a new bike, helmet, and other accessories to replace the bike that was destroyed. KSL's Beyond the Badge recognizes the good work that Utah's public safety officers do every day to make each of our lives better. Listen to Utah's Morning News every weekday as Amanda Dickson highlights the everyday heroes who work tirelessly to keep us safe. Officers are nominated by their respective police chiefs, sheriffs and supervisors, and the general public. Those featured are selected by a committee composed of representatives from KSL, the Department of Public Safety and Utah Local Governments Trust. KSL has also partnered with the Utah Lieutenant Governor to help execute the program. Beyond the badge is sponsored by the Utah Local Government's Trust. Protecting those who protect you. Providing specialized insurance products and services protecting more than 540 local governments. Be safe, and come home.

"Almost half a trillion dollars is spent on K-12 education each year and look at the results. One out of every four American children reads below grade level. One out of every three high school students do not graduate." Why does this continue to be a problem? Public schools are struggling greatly and politicians are consulted over teachers. What are some solutions to fix America's school system? Join teacher and author Brian Crosby of Smart Kids in Bad Schools on The Teachers Lounge!
