Founding Red Rockers' bassist and NY Dolls manager Darren Hill returns with Oley Sassone, the SexDog guitarist and director of the Rockers' MTV debut, "China." While the hit video elevated the band to new career heights, touring with U2 and other top groups, it was also the pivotal achievement for Oley, propelling him to a career in L.A., where he rubbed elbows with James Cameron, Steven Soderbergh, and Marvel creator Stan Lee. Oley went on to direct over 100 music videos as well as numerous TV shows and films, including "Xena: Warrior Princess," "Hercules," and the controversial Roger Corman production of "The Fantastic Four." Tonight Darren and Oley return to their dive bar roots as they get down and dirty with the Troubled Men. Topics include the Milan Bar, deportations, a vow of silence, a wedding party, April Fool's Day, RFK Jr.'s toilet seat, a surprise tattoo, Pete Davidson, a methadone safe, a publishing mixup, Rummel H.S., super 8 movies, "A Hard Day's Night," "Pretty Baby," Sven Nykvist, the Swedish Film Institute, WYLD, the Glass House, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Mardi Gras Indians, directing commercials, an Annie Leibowitz cover photo, a spec production, an NYC publicist, an L.A. job offer, Bill Paxton, Richard Roundtree, an underground classic, Joseph Culp, the Contenders, RIP David Johansen, Gilbert Gottfried, and much more. The City of Saskatoon is continuing to work on its homelessness problem by trying to make more resources and shelters available to people who need them. The constant question, however, is where should these shelters be? The proposed location for the city's next shelter is in the Sutherland neighbourhood, which is in city councilor Darren Hill's ward. He hosted his own information session on the weekend and joins Evan to share the concerns he is hearing from the community.
It can be tough to write songs when you're not out living real life experiences. After the Beatles stopped touring, John often found himself at home, bored and isolated from the social scenes he'd been in while on the road. But John could find inspiration in anything...posters, newspapers, even commercials. That's where he found inspiration for this rocking ode to everyday malaise that would find a home towards the end of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Driven by some gnarly sounding horns, a driving drum track that hides a complicated time signature, and an absolutely ripping guitar solo from Paul, "Good Morning, Good Morning" seems to often get the short end of the stick. It's not as psychedlic and dreamy as some of John's other Pepper-era tunes, but it's certainly as vidual a lyric and as well produced a track, and a nice chance to hear the band really rock on that album. This week, we're thrilled to be joined by Darren HIll and John Thomas Griffith of the recently-reunited Red Rockers. Before they scored an early MTV hit in 1984 with the song "China," they were hailed as America's answer to The Clash by Rolling Stone, and released the seminal album "Condition Red." After a fateful discovering of long-lost master tapes, they've not only recently re-mixed and re-released the album, they've also performed their first live show since breaking up in 86 (it was amazing, btw). We chat with John and Darren about how they got their record back, reuniting, the Beatles punk credibilty, de-evolution, the art of the album, and so much more. Follow Red Rockers on Facebook or Instagram to see what the future holds, order yourself a copy of Condition Red, or stream it wherever you listen to music! What do you think about "Good Morning, Good Morning" at #97? Too high? Too low? Or just right? Let us know in the comments on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter! The Constitutional Choice for Sheriff with Darren Hill | THE INTERVIEW ROOM | Episode 040 See this Episodes complete SHOW NOTES at https://www.ontheblueline.com/podcast-show-notes FOLLOW: INSTAGRAM | FACEBOOK | TWITTER | LINKEDin | YOUTUBE In this episode, I sit down with Darren Hill: Darren Hill has a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's Degree in Game Design and Production. He started his law enforcement journey in central Florida where he worked as a Patrol Deputy on the night shift. He was quickly promoted to being a Field Training Officer where he was responsible for making sure new recruits from the academy understood how to do their job safely and within the confines of the law and especially the constitution. Hill was later promoted to being a Detective in the Economic Crimes Unit where he investigated cases ranging from bad checks for a few hundred dollars to multi-million dollar scams. With his computer and economic specialization, he was sent to work with the Department of Homeland Security office in Tampa to help them with dark web investigations. Due to injuries sustained in the line of duty, he ended his law enforcement career to move to Douglas County, Colorado where he continues to manage his small business. During his time with the Sheriff's Office, Hill declined invitations to test for promotions since he always wanted to be where he could help his fellow citizens, so a position of Sergeant or higher did not appeal to him. He did not have aspirations of running for Sheriff, but with unconstitutional laws being supported by other candidates, Hill joined the race to be where he can help his fellow citizens. The second of my special episodes to mark Australian Father's Day 2022 features Steve Davis, a marketing consultant, educator, comedian, theatre reviewer + podcaster from Adelaide, South Australia, and a dad of 2 girls.Steve was passionate about being in radio. He recalls being 12 years old listening to his red transistor radio in his bedroom and deciding then + there he was going to be a radio announcer. This morphed into journalism + Steve spent countless years in radio newsrooms in Adelaide. After being in the newsroom on the day the Twin Towers fell on September 11th , + witnessing the way the journalism was used to fuel fear + increase ratings in the weeks following, Steve became quite jaded. He quit within a week and joined a marketing company and was there for the next 19 years. He then decided to go out on his own and started his own marketing consultancy, Talked About Marketing, which is based on a saying by one of his literary heroes, Oscar Wilde: There's only one thing worse than being talked about and that's not being talked about. In 2013 Steve was looking for a creative outlet and started The Adelaide Show Podcast, a show that passionately showcases the people of the great state of South Australia. The podcast proudly holds the title of Silver for Best Interview Podcast in Australia in the Australian Podcast Awards 2021.Apart from podcasting, after hours Steve does character-based stand up comedy as his two alter egos: Professor Sebastian Longsword from The MBA School of MBA Credentials, and Social Sales Whisperer, Darren Hill. Both have websites + linkedin profiles, + get booked to MC events + deliver talks. Steve has appeared on the reality tv series Is This Thing On? reflecting on his experience in the School of Hard Knock Knocks comedy school.Steve is driven by curiosity and says the formal setting of an interview is his natural habitat, whether that's in a studio or around a dinner table.Today we enjoy a really fun, lively, and at times quite serious chat covering journalistic integrity, raising girls and the significance and authenticness of including children in your art and creativity.**This episode contains discussion around a near death accident + still birth**Explore Steve's worlds : Talked About Marketing / The Adelaide Show Podcast / Professor Longsword / Darren HillPodcast - instagram / websiteIf today's episode is triggering for you I encourage you to seek help from those around you, or from resources on line. Darren Hill helps people think about how best to do the big stuff in their lives. Whether it's working through business strategy or culture with an ASX leader, delivering a keynote to thousands, or popping up in the paper or on the TV for his views on business leadership and workplace culture, Darren is a deep-thinker and thought provoker. We've worked together on a few things over the years but this was our first chance to deep dive into some of the meatier stuff Darren works on. I think you'll enjoy the yarn and maybe even pick up a few nuggets to apply in your own personal or work life.
For professional storyteller Darren Hill, life is a pilgrimage. “It's a journey which has a beginning… an end, and the middle bit.” Darren's “middle bit” includes prestigious theatrical training and a career he loves. However, it began with the challenge of dyslexia and facing opposition while pursuing his storytelling dreams. He believes overcoming life's obstacles is possible through stubbornness, determination, humility and listening to others. “I've met people from all cultures and ages that teach me… what life's all about,” says Darren. “I am the product of all of those people, and they [are] all with me… as a part of who I am.” In recent years, Darren performed a one-man theatrical production nearly every night during a 500-mile pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago—which exposed him to the life stories of countless fellow travellers. Join Charly Burridge-Jones as she and Darren discuss lessons learned throughout his physical pilgrimage as well as the pilgrimage all human beings have in common—the journey of life.
Jimmy Smith looks over the middleweight division to see if anyone has a chance of dethroning Israel Adesanya as champ (0:34), gets a UFC Vegas 36 preview from Factory X Head Coach Marc Montoya (13:51), and reacts to the news of Oscar De La Hoya having to pull out of his upcoming boxing fight with Vitor Belfort due to Covid (28:18).
In this episode, I talk with Darren Hill, who is a performing artist, storyteller, and pilgrim. We talk about his pilgrimages and how he performed the play Underneath the Lintel 26 times as he walked the Camino. Darren is also the founder of www.thestorypilgrim.com.
On this episode of the show, we have a fantastic interview with Darren Hill, who started his career in New Orleans as the bassist of punk legends The Red Rockers and later went on to play with The Raindogs, Klover, The Stardarts, and Paul Westerberg. He then made the transition to management and started Ten Pin Management and has worked with many great artists over the years including Westerberg, David Johansen, The Dropkick Murphys, Roky Erickson, and The Mighty Might Bosstones. He was also heavily involved in the reunions of two iconic bands, The Replacements and The New York Dolls. Howdy folks and welcome to Episode 26 of The Air Conditioning Podcast. This week, we sat down with Darren Hill (Business Development Executive) and George Parashis (Sales Account Executive) of Actron Air. Actron Air have been a household name in Australia when it comes to climate control in your home for many years and Darren and George helped us to understand a bit more about their product and their business. Here's a sneaky peak of what we covered….. > Where and how did Actron start? (2:30) > How long have you both been working with Actron and where have you worked previously? (5:00) > Having worked with other Manufacturer's we tend to become very passionate about the brands and advocates of their products, how did you go shifting your mindset from one brand to another? (8:50) > You mentioned being able to wind down the fan on your variable fan indoor ducted units so you can operate a single zone, does this apply to a specific control system? And does the compressor wind back as well? (10:15) > With the Inverter Technology that you've now adopted, can you see that you will be moving in that direction or are sticking with digital scroll compressors? (13:30) > Actron ducted outdoor units have traditionally been top discharge units, are you looking to introduce side discharge? (16:15) > Within your range, what unit capacities do you go up to? (17:40) > Can you tell us more about your Package units? (19:30) > Where is the technology developed? Is it here in South Australia or interstate? (22:15) > Actron seem to be doing great things with their wall controllers, do you think this is because you're an Australian company that you are catering for what appeals to the Australian market? When compared to other international manufacturer's they don't seem to place as much emphasis on their controllers because it appears that they are not of great importance, would you agree? (26:00) > Can you control your zoning through the wall controller? (30:10) And much more. We'd like to thank Darren and George for joining us on the Show and if you want to get in touch with the team at Actron Air, you can visit their website https://www.actronair.com.au/ and check out their sleek looking “NEO” wall controller. Until the next episode peeps….ta ta.

Today’s guest is the mastermind behind many successful organizational cultures. His company believes in the power of feedback in creating a healthy and happy work environment. Meet Darren Hill.
Red Rockers were all set to be the "American Clash." They may have started as the go-to punk band in their native New Orleans, but when they wrote the 1983 hit "China" for their second album, not only did their style change, but MTV played them incessantly, recognition soon followed, and original fans screamed "sell outs!" Unfortunately, the switch to a more commercial sound only led to moderate commercial success. Other than the still beautiful "China" they never quite got off the ground. When it ended, bassist Darren Hill didn't really find success again until he began playing with, and then managing, Paul Westerberg. From there, his roster of clients grew to include luminaries like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, New York Dolls, Dropkick Murphys, and the late Roky Erickson. Darren tells fascinating stories about all of these great people like what makes Paul tick, why was Roky special, working with former guest William Wittman on Red Rockers' final album Schizophrenic Circus (and why it has one of the worst covers ever), and the pop culture store he runs in Providence, RI. So many great stories here and you know we just scratched the surface. Enjoy! http://www.emporiumofpopularculture.com/
