When we initially got into real estate investing, we had one thought. What's the worst thing that could happen? Well for many investors, they'll tell you just that. “You'll be fine! It's not like your house is going to burn down”. Well, it happened. In this week's episode we share the story of how our rental property burned down and the steps we took next. We discuss the details of the fire, including how we were notified, how we responded, the damage that was done, and the exact steps we took next from insurance to tenant communication. We understand that a property fire is a difficult experience for any property owner or tenant, and we want to share our experience to help others who may go through a similar situation.**If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving us a review on Apple Podcasts? This week's episode features Yaamu Camara, originally from West Africa. Trying to write a description for this episode that would truly do it justice was an impossible task. Yaamu's story of perseverance and overcoming life's shortcomings is bonestly only like one we've ever read in story books. Yaamu grew up as an orphan in a village where she was forced to sleep on cardboard boxes throughout most of her early life. She buried herself in books and made a pact to herself that she would one day make a better life for herself. Not only that but she would one day buy an entire house so she could sleep in her own bed. Fast forward to 2023, Yaamu is living in the United States with a real estate portfolio of over 30 units. After speaking with Yaamu, we realized that we legitimately have no worthy excuses left and need to get after it every single day. This is an episode you'll come back to from time to time when you need a little inspiration. We promise, her story is one for the books. Enjoy! **If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving us a review on Apple Podcasts? 028: Building Trust Through Performance as a Young Real Estate Investor with David Toupin

Real estate is a very tough space to navigate but when you have the numbers and you've built up your reputation, it's much easier for people to trust you and invest their money with you. In today's conversation, Jonathan speaks with real estate investor and serial entrepreneur, David Toupin, about how real estate investors can build trust through performance. David started real estate investing at 19 years old and bought his first deal, a 12-unit multifamily property, at 20 years old. In six years, he has acquired over $100 million in multifamily real estate assets. For him, it's not rocket science to go and buy properties. It just takes a different skill set where you have to do it once and then you'll figure things out. David also created Real Estate Lab, which is now one of the most widely used multifamily analysis tools. What started as a simple Excel spreadsheet has now become an acquisitions platform for investors and an underwriting model that streamlines multifamily investing. In this episode, you will hear: Sticking to the fundamentals of the deal and focusing on the facts The benefits of a pitch deck Raising capital as a young investor The benefits of shooting for long-term goals Changing the types of properties you buy to 10x your goals The need to be ethical in the real estate world Focusing on the quality of the deal versus quantity Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? He also shares with us strategies and factors you need to consider as an early investor, misconceptions about real estate, and the importance of nurturing your relationships in the industry. If you're someone who's afraid to get started investing in real estate, this episode is for you! Let Go of Your Limiting Beliefs Many people are hesitant to invest in real estate because they doubt if they're capable enough or do not have enough money to start. David's inspiring journey proves that you can start investing in properties as early as 20 and still a college student. You don't need to have a lot of money; you can apply for loans or get into syndications. Stop overanalyzing about the things that could go wrong; instead, just dive into it and pursue your goals. Your limiting beliefs will only become true if you do not take action. A lot of people waste their years doubting themselves and the opportunities they have. David had many failed businesses and mistakes in his early years in real estate, but he didn't stop and let those overwhelm him. He dedicated himself to learning and gaining experiences. Today, he has developed 1,000 apartments worth more than $100M and a real estate company with over $50M real estate holdings! Start overcoming your limiting beliefs because you're only sabotaging the successful future you could have. If you start accepting these as truths, they will become your reality. Although it is not easy, it is better than having regrets in the future about the things you wished you did. Moreover, become comfortable with failing. When you combine failures with hard work, you'll eventually achieve success. Prove yourself wrong, disregard those doubts, and get started on working hard to achieve your dreams.  About David Toupin: David Toupin is a Top Millennial real estate investor, speaker, and entrepreneur.
