Dennis King resigned as premier of P.E.I. in a bombshell announcement Thursday, saying he felt he “had more runway behind me than I had in front of me.” Kerry Campbell, the CBC's provincial affairs reporter for P.E.I., digs into what might have driven the decision — and what comes next.
It's time for another round of Studios Year by Year, starting over with Paramount 1930! And this time Dave has brought even more nostalgic reading material to give some context for this studio content. We also launch another new series feature: a review of our favourite movies from the previous 1930-1948 round. Turning to the Paramount movies we watched for this episode, we struggle to come to terms with the pointless battle of the sexes in Lubitsch's The Love Parade, starring Maurice Chevalier and Jeanette MacDonald, who are having a lot of sexy Pre-Code fun until the dictates of storytelling demand conflict; and struggle through a nigh-unwatchable transfer/copy of the sturdy operetta The Vagabond King, starring MacDonald and Dennis King. In both films, the adorable Lillian Roth delights. And finally, as if all of that weren't enough, a New Year's Eve throwback (by the time this is posted) in Fear and Moviegoing in Toronto: we watched the beloved When Harry Met Sally and the cult classic 200 Cigarettes at the Revue Cinema. From our limited access to health care, to worries about how the U.S. will treat us under a new president. Premier Dennis King talks about the issues P.E.I. faced in 2024.
Cassandra was the Trojan priestess described in Homer's Iliad condemned to have prophecies that are never believed.Dennis King, a veteran analyst with over 30 years of experience in the Humanitarian Information Unit of the US State Department, USAID, and OCHA, is in a sense a modern day Cassandra. Together with host Lars Peter Nissen, they unravel the transformation of information management in the humanitarian sector. They discuss the gains and losses brought by technological advances, what can be learned from the cultural contrasts between humanitarian and intelligence communities, and the new chaos paradigm. This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in Cassandra's predictions for the future of humanitarian analysis.

Dennis King has deep roots in the tire industry at Dunlap & Kyle Tire Company. His dad, Denny started out at Dunlap & Kyle in Jackson, Mississippi, working in distribution for Hesselbein Tire. When Dennis finished his computer science degree at Ole Miss in 1990, he planned to work in IT for the federal court system, yet the universe had other plans. After a conversation with Bob Dunlap, founder of Dunlap & Kyle, Dennis would go on to make a career in the tire business. Over the years, he worked his way up from the adjustments department to vice president of operations to president of Dunlap & Kyle, overseeing the company's 19 distribution warehouses in Arkansas, Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee, and 41 retail stores, under the Gateway Tire & Service brand across those states as well as Oklahoma and Alabama. In this episode of Johnny g & Friends, presented by Firestone, Dennis shares: How he started in the tire business with Dunlop & Kyle (1:28) - The greatest lessons he has learned from Bobby Dunlap and his dad over the years (4:07) - Two concerns Dennis has about tire distribution and retail (6:07) - Why his outlook is positive when it comes to the future of the tire industry (9:34) - How Dunlap & Kyle created a vision statement with eight core values and the significance of them for employees (12:08) - Advice for the next generation of tire industry professionals (16:07) - Best memories from tire industry trips and the people that made them great (19:13) - New ways D&K is communicating with its employees and adapting to digitally (23:29) - Rapid Fire Questions (25:07) More from Firestone Tires: www.firestonetires.comMore Johnny g & Friends:https://www.tirereview.com/category/video/johnny-g-friends-video/

This week's episode looks back on results from two state elections: Prince Edward Island, Canada and New South Wales, Australia. In Prince Edward Island, Dennis King's Progressive Conservatives put in a dominant performance to retain Office. How did they win such a decisive victory? And despite reclaiming Official Opposition status, how can the Liberals regroup and become competitive again? In New South Wales, there was a change in Government, ensuring that Labor is governing all mainland states in Australia simultaneously for only the second time. How did Chris Minns succeed in the race to become Premier? And will Labor be disappointed to miss out on a majority? What's next for the Liberals and where will their next leader come from? Why were the Teals unable to replicate their federal successes? And after NSW and the Aston by-election, what will be the federal implications for Liberal Leader Peter Dutton? All these questions, and more, answered in this week's podcast. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ballot-to-talk-about/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ballot-to-talk-about/support
Dennis King's Progressive Conservatives kicked off the Prince Edward Island election campaign with a big lead in the polls, seemingly leaving the only real battle to be between Peter Bevan-Baker's Greens and Sharon Cameron's Liberals for official opposition status. But are King's PCs still on track for a big majority win, maybe even a sweep? Or did any of the campaign's controversies or this past week's leaders debate change the dial?Back to wrap this campaign is Stuart Neatby, political reporter for the Charlottetown Guardian and the Saltwire Network. My livestream of the results will be starting on Monday at 6 PM Eastern / 7 PM Atlantic. Is the healthcare system s in Canada really serving Canadians? How many people in Canada are being left to suffer because the healthcare systems are simply unable to keep up? Why isn't the Federal Government doing more to help Provinces put programs in place so Canadians can stay healthy and live better? The Prime Minster has made promises but is very slow to follow through leaving the Premiers across the country to gather and speak out in the press and to the Government. Who is really listening? After a summer of emergency room closures and long waits for care on Prince Edward Island, Premier Dennis King says provincial governments need to work together to solve health-care staffing shortages. The P.E.I. premier met with his counterparts from Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick in Moncton on Monday to discuss the state of health care in the country — and issues related to staffing shortages including shorter hours at hospital emergency rooms, surgery backlogs and desperate attempts to attract and retain physicians. At the end of the day, the premiers agreed health care is at a crisis point in Canada, and said urgent action in collaboration with the federal government is needed. They also discussed trying to speed up the accreditation process for doctors from other countries so that they can start practising in Canada sooner. But there wasn't much concrete detail on what other solutions might be tried.Speaking to reporters after the premiers met, King said the way to move forward is to consult medical professionals to find out what needs to change."P.E.I. is not unique in the entire federation," he said."I think we've been realizing for the past year and half, essentially, that we're not able to sustain the delivery system that we have in the province.Premiers who gathered Monday in Moncton, N.B. for a summit on health care called for significant changes to the delivery of services in their provinces and hinted at the possibility of offering more services through the private sector."The status quo is not working, folks," Ontario Premier Doug Ford told a news conference following the meeting."We need to be creative, we need to come up with ideas from the [health care] sector."Ford met with premiers Blaine Higgs of New Brunswick, Tim Houston of Nova Scotia and Dennis King of Prince Edward Island during the summit.Ford — who met with Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc before the meeting — said health care was the "the number one priority" cited by the premiers.Ford also said he had a "phenomenal conversation" with LeBlanc about the challenges facing provincial health-care systems."Urgent action is needed if the federal government wants to ensure the sustainability of health care and services across Canada," Higgs said.WATCH / Need to see improved health outcomes, New Brunswick premier saysDisagreements over health care funding have strained the relationship between Canada's premiers and the federal government for years now, but the increasingly dire situation in hospitals and emergency departments has pushed the premiers to push for change more aggressively. At a gathering of all provincial and territorial leaders in July, British Columbia Premier John Horgan said Canadian health care had deteriorated to a point where Canada would have to "re-imagine" how public health care is delivered. The premiers say Ottawa must increase its share of health-care funding from 22 to 35 per cent in order to build a sustainable and properly functioning system. The federal government contends that calculations used by the provinces do not accurately account for Ottawa's contributions to provincial health care services.Listen to "Policy and Rights" on Spreaker. Please Visit Our SponsorsWhat if you could achieve that holistic success - thriving business

As this showpage description to The View Up Here's 10th season finale is being written, Albertans are voting for their Provincial government for the next four years. Maybe, depending on RCMP investigations. Review and analysis for the topic on this show will depend on those results, so there's not much to say except... Tune in for the TVUH take whether Alberta will be moving forward or backwards, by a lot. But there is another election, in Prince Edward Island, on April 23rd that could make history on two distinct fronts. Incumbent Premier Wade MacLaughlin and the PEI Liberals have been trailing the PEI Greens and their leader Peter Bevan-Baker in polling for six months without pause. New leader Dennis King of the PEI Progressive Conservatives is also in the mix and could hold the balance of power if a minority result occurs. But indications are Canada may very well get the first elected Green party government in history, a sign of the times we live in. The second historic event regards a referendum also on Election Day in PEI. It will be a simple Yes/No question on adopting a Mixed Member Proportional voting system, which would make this the last First Past The Post election in the Province. What sets this process apart from recent voting system change efforts is this time it is a clear proposition to voters. The question itself on the seperate ballot is laid out in the "Electoral System Referendum Act" so there is no room for confusion. This Act also includes specific and complete information on what the MMP system would be, how the voting process would change and what the results of it would bring. In other words, PEI has defined everything that BC refused to do. All kinds of history to be made. We will look at the resultant history of Alberta's election and ramifications and the impending history of Prince Edward Island's two ballot election in one week.

“Rumplestiltskin”, as told by the Brothers Grimm, is one of the classic fairy tales about a supernatural creature who comes to the aid of a damsel in distress and demands a stiff payment (classically a first born child) unless the damsel can guess his name. We come to you from northern Arkansas near the White River (which we mistakenly call the Buffalo River, which is not far away) after having performed at a series of libraries in the area. We also volunteered to help with the clean-up after the disaster in Joplin, Mo. Our summer tour is well underway, having started in the Reno, NV area in May, where we encountered snow. And now we are sweltering in the Midwestern summer. We always did go in for variety. Happy Listening, Dennis (King, Rumplestiltskin, Servant) and Kimberly (Farmer, Cobbler, Miller, Daughter, Narrator) Read Along- Read the story of Rumplestiltskin while you listen
