The second Donald Trump term began as the made-for-TV event you know the former reality TV star sought it out to be, and while "reality TV" is largely fictitious scripting, Trump's inauguration day was very real - with real-life consequences for justice, law & order and both undocumented and DACA status immigrants. President-elect Donald Trump sat down last week with 'Meet The Press' host Kristen Welker, and upon further review, Welker seemed 'suppressed,' either on her own or by edict. Never mind that Trump continued spewing falsehoods; that's to be expected. That Welker rarely pushed back is of vital concern for journalistic integrity. This sit-down wasn't "Fox News-friendly" but it wasn't much tougher, either. CNN's senior reporter Daniel Dale, acting in the capacity of a “fact checker,” dismantled Biden's defense point-by-point in a devastating takedown. A review of more than 60 studies has concluded that “there is no long-term evidence that mental health concerns are decreased or alleviated after ‘gender-affirming therapy,'” according to a national group of physicians. A Missouri mom was arrested after she allegedly burned her 1-month-old baby to death in an oven Friday, the Kansas City Star reported. Plus more on this episode. 

Concerns are growing over a perceived easing of thorough scrutiny by the media's 'fact-checkers' towards the utterances of the sitting US president, as compared with their previous approach. Under the leadership of Donald Trump, the media community - sometimes referred to as the mainstream media - seemed to be perpetually engaged in live 'fact-checks.' However, there's been a noticeable shift in this trend under the administration of President Joe Biden, leading some to question if such scrutiny has been largely abandoned. An examination carried out by Joe Concha, a media critic writing for The Hill, notes that these very fact-checkers appear to be taking an unusually long respite or have simply distanced themselves from rigorous inspection of the president. Concha illustrates this apparent lapse with the example of CNN fact-checker, Daniel Dale, who seems to have dropped off the radar in the current administration. Data from Mediaite shows that from the period of June 2019 to November 2020, Dale was either mentioned or made appearances on CNN, on an average, at least once per day. Even by conservative estimates, this translates to over 500 mentions or features on the network within merely a 16-month period. However, under Biden's tenure, Dale has been significantly less visible with the notable point that he has not conducted a single fact-check of the president since the month of June, as reported by Concha. One might argue that this fall in activity is due to a lack of substantial material for Dale to delve into when it comes to Biden. Concha, however, starkly contrasts this claim, providing recent instances that required fact-checking. Show Notes Today's Guests: Dr. Daniel Dale PT, DPT Dr. Daniel Dale is a Clinical Assistant Professor and the Assistant Director of Clinical Education in the Department of Physical Therapy at Mercer University. He received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University (now Georgia Southern University) in Savannah, Georgia in 2011.  Dr. Dale is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, and is also a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT). In addition to his teaching and clinical practice, Dr. Dale also serves as an educational consultant for Early Mobility, a company for consulting services and early mobility program development and management for major hospital systems countrywide. Dr. Dale also still works PRN at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA, where he held his first job out of school. Dr. Dale's current teaching responsibilities include assisting in service-learning, integrated and long-term clinical experience courses, health policy, and conducting simulation in courses throughout the curriculum related to neurology, acute care, and interprofessional education related to the ICU and acute care environments. Dr. Dale is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, including the Education, Acute Care, and Leadership and Innovation sections/academies. He has served on multiple committees and in leadership positions within the state and national professional associations. Dr. Dale is also a member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). Hour 2 of The Dawn Stensland Show: While visiting Philadelphia on Tuesday, President Joe Biden spoke at the AFL-CIO’s Quadrennial Constitutional Convention at the PA Convention Center. During his speech, Biden discussed the economy, reducing the annual federal deficit, and the national labor movement. Biden also mentioned a recent Zoom conversation he had with Democrat candidate for Senate John Fetterman. While addressing the annual federal deficit, President Biden claimed that he has made reductions amounting to roughly $350 billion in 2021. According to CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale, prior to Biden’s presidency, the expected deficit reduction for the year was $870 billion. Newly released audio recovered from Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop includes Hunter claiming that when it comes to policy preferences, his father will “talk about anything I want him to.” On Tuesday, the House passed legislation that would expand protection for Supreme Court Justices and their immediate family members. The bill passed 396 to 27—with progressive members, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, voting “no.” According to new details from The Washington Post, Nicholas Roske—the man accused of plotting to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh—may have been dissuaded from carrying out his plans during a phone call with his sister. Roske called 911 and surrendered to police outside of Justice Kavanaugh’s family home. While on his HBO show “Real Time,” Bill Maher was outraged that media outlets and news publications, like the New York Times, minimally covered the murder plot of Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Maher concluded the lack of coverage was due to Kavanaugh’s conservativism.
