His research efforts have helped bring whole blood transfusions to the battlefield and to emergency medical systems stateside. With the development of the Joint Trauma System, he was able to use real-time data to help improve the care of injured soldiers and pass these lessons along to the healthcare providers that followed. In this episode, he describes what his deployment to Iraq was like as the Trauma Medical Director, in charge of all medical care for the theater, and the challenges that they faced at that point in the war. He also discusses his role as the Trauma Director of the Joint Theater System just a year later where he was in charge of the trauma care for both Iraq and Afghanistan and discusses the unique challenges each theater faced. Donald Jenkins is the CEO and Co-Founder of the Purpose Development Institute in Atlanta, GA. He's a two time TEDx speaker, author, and inventor. Mr. Jenkins is also a Master Purpose Development Coach and the nations leading expert in Purpose Deficit Disorders (PDD)™.
Social unrest around the country has many organizations in corporate America taking a second look at their policies and practices with respect to diversity, equity and inclusion. A recent Forbes magazine article notes the reason many employees who are not of color feign interest in DE&I training is a lack of interest. Donald Jenkins leads a team of trainers who seek to evolve hearts and minds on the issue of systemic racism.
Donald Jenkins is a fantastic spoken word artist, he’s performed at lots festivals, theatres and won poetry slams in the northeast and spoken in colleges, schools and given workshops for students and youth centres. Donald is the founder of Born lippy which is a regular night in Newcastle 2 nights each month With a collective of spoken word trail blazers in all of its manifestations! A true eclectic range of poetry/comedy/slam battle/ rap acapella and storytelling. His first event sold out within 20 mins of opening back in 2018! Donald’s always worked in youth centres and he’s been a teacher and a DJ and he also splits his time freelancing and working with a theatre, so it’s fair to say he’s great with communities and bringing out the best in people. Donald was raised by his dad and his gay mum and her partner growing up in the 80’s as a lad with working class friends in the north east! So his take on life and experiences are of course really interesting but so sad to think still an issue with many others now 35 plus years on. But many still wouldn’t have shined a light on an issue and brought it out and used it with art which I believe is where the real power is! Donald’s takeaways- 1.Keep following your curiosity 2.It’s ok to have things on a back burner, I believe it will keep popping back up like a floating cork until you act on it. 3.Do try something you love - whatever that may be and it can help you in a dark time. 4.When you find the thing, remember you will just keep getting better at it the more you keep working at it. 5.As we are seeing currently with black life matters and of course the end of pride month, Art truly has the power to open up these important discussions 6.If you are struggling to find an event to perform in why not try and create one of your own! 7.Connection and community’s are so important. 8.Keep editing and mastering your pieces to be published, they take time and it's a competitively different process and art form to it bring performed. With everything on the table and up for discussion, there is no holding back during this hour with Ruthie Collins. Raised on a farm in Fredonia, NY, Collins fell in love with country music at a young age. Her mother, a church organist, celebrated her natural affinity and introduced her to a variety of instruments, starting with piano and the violin. As a promising vocalist and multi-instrumentalist looking for a bigger pond, she left home to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. From her flea market lace curtains to her obsession with shiplap, she forges her own path, marrying DIY projects and vintage frocks with modern country music. Ruthie’s sound mirrors her lifestyle – an approach that celebrates the work of legendary women like Dolly and Emmy Lou in a contemporary way that fits seamlessly into your Instagram feed.

The most frustrating part about being a friend and a fan to amazing songwriters in the music business, has been hearing amazing songs that will never cut, or leave the Nashville city limits. My podcast is a casual hangout with friends telling stories, giving advice, and playing songs that have been sitting in a data base. I would describe it as fun and entertaining while providing valuable success lessons, topped with a great song.

On this week’s podcast: An exclusive live mix by Gez Varley aka G-Man of seminal rave/bleep techno pioneers LFO. Gerrard "Gez" Varley is a British electronic musician and DJ, who was member of LFO during the 1990s and later released his solo works under the moniker G-Man. Varley founded LFO in 1990 with Mark Bell, whom he had known since 1984. Their first release LFO was released by Warp Records in 1990 and reached the British single charts. During the mid-1990s Varley focused on his solo productions. His debut album Kushti was released in 1996 as G-Man. In the same year Varley left LFO. He released on his own imprint G Records as well as on the German labels Studio K7 and Force Inc. Music Works. In 1999 Varley moved to Wiesbaden, Germany.[1][2] In 2000 he founded the label GMR Records. Varley and Bell met while studying at Leeds and gave their first track, the eponymous "LFO", to Nightmares on Wax. The popularity of the demo in clubs led to the track being released by the Sheffield-based Warp Records in 1990, and it was a Top 20 hit in the U.K., reaching number 12 in the singles charts in July. Their follow-up single, "We Are Back", was released in the summer of 1991. DJ Martin (Martin Williams) is credited as a cowriter and coproducer of the track "LFO" but was not a member of the group.[2] Mark Bell explains: "We gave a tape of our recordings to DJ Martin who helped loads with arranging our tracks so it'd work on the dancefloor. We'd just been messing around with drum machines since we were like thirteen, tapping away at them like they were arcade games, making tapes to play our mates at school. Anyway, DJ Martin would play our cassettes in his sets and people would go mental - in a good way - cos they were totally raw."[3] Later signed to Tommy Boy Records in the U.S., the duo remixed Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock", as well as songs from Björk, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Laurent Garnier, and The Sabres of Paradise.
