Shoot us a Text.As we enter a new week, we're considering how the average age of cars is affecting parts and service. Plus Colorado is now the most EV state in the US, topping California, and a new study is showing that bad customer service is costing retail stores billions.Show Notes with links:Despite a record number of aging vehicles on the road, the auto repair and parts industry is facing challenges as economic pressures affect consumer spending habits. The average passenger car is now 13.6 years old, up from 8.4 years three decades ago, creating a high demand for maintenance.Inflation, higher interest rates, and supply chain issues have led consumers to defer maintenance or opt for cheaper, off-brand parts.Companies like Monro, Genuine Parts, and Valvoline have reported significant drops in sales, citing cautious consumer spending.Carfax data shows 30% of vehicles are overdue for tire rotations, while 19% are late for oil changes, despite the high return on maintenance investment.Executives from AutoZone and O'Reilly Automotive predict a bounce-back as deferred repairs eventually become unavoidable.Colorado has dethroned California, emerging as the nation's leader in EV sales, with a stunning 25.3% of new vehicle sales being electric in Q3 of 2024. Here's what's driving the surge:Residents enjoy up to $12,500 in combined state and federal EV tax credits.Over 5,500 public charging ports are operational, with $5M allocated for 576 additional ports in 2024.82% of EVs sold in the state are fully electric, signaling robust consumer demand.Governor Jared Polis champions EVs as key to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, urging residents to act before state tax credits decrease in 2025 from $5000 to $3500.Will Toor, Colorado Energy Office Director, states, “Our commitment to making electric vehicles affordable and reliable is paying off.”Retailers are losing an estimated $262 billion annually due to inadequate in-store experiences, according to a study by Forsta.Nearly half of negative customer reviews are tied to issues like mismanaged checkouts and unhelpful staff, leading to frustration and lost sales. The study revealed that 74% of US adults will abandon a store without making a purchase after a bad experience. While online sales on Black Friday saw a 14.6% increase, in-store sales grew just 0.7%, with foot traffic dropping by 3.2%.Forsta CEO Kyle Ferguson emphasized the importance of in-store experiences, stating that poor service erodes trust and loyalty. He pointed to Walmart's use of AI-powered tools to improve customer interactions as a model for others to follow, urging retailers to prioritize in-store environments during peak retail periods.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email

Clemente Cohen's finance career began in the early 1990s inside the Munich offices of Silicon Graphics, approximately 6,500 miles from the Silicon Valley company's headquarters and 7,500 miles from his birthplace in Argentina. This transcontinental start marked the beginning of a career defined by global problem solving , adaptability and generous helpings of M&A experience. Cohen, who grew up in Germany after moving from Argentina, problem solving perspective to his role. Joining Silicon Graphics as an accountant, Cohen tells us he was able to quickly demonstrate to others a innate curiosity and willingness to go the extra mile. Frequently, his contributions went beyond traditional accounting, delving into financial analysis and supporting the company's rapid growth. This foundational experience in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment would shape Cohen's understanding of finance operations on a global scale. Over the next decade, Cohen's career with Silicon Graphics expanded across continents. He held roles in Germany, the UK, and eventually became the International CFO, overseeing finance and business operations outside the United States. After a dozen years with Silicon Graphics, Cohen joined the London Office of CA Technologies , where Cohen tell us he was able to play a pivotal role in M&A activities and helped drive the company's transition from hardware to software. After spending much of his career at large, global companies, Cohen made a deliberate decision to pursue CFO opportunities at smaller, private equity-backed firms. This shift allowed him to be more hands-on, driving business transformation and growth in a more direct way. The move was not without hesitation, as smaller companies often come with greater challenges and fewer resources. However, Cohen embraced the opportunity to apply his extensive experience in a more entrepreneurial setting.

Rapporten er forfattet av Customer C og Forsta, og ble lansert på Kundeopplevelsesdagen til Kampanje. Kort om NPS her. Content Marketers need to be great collaborators. Since there was so much gold in last week's episode with Sharon Hyman from Forsta, I had the idea (OK, actually my wife had the idea) that I should do a follow-up episode to every interview the week after. The idea is to dive into one of the topics we discussed during the interview, going into a bit more practical detail and really spelling it out.I'll be calling these 'follow-up' solo episodes About Last Week or ALW. It's (supposed to be) short and punchy. I mentioned it would be 10 minutes, but this one was quite a bit longer than that! And that's how we'll run the podcast from now on - one week it'll be an interview with an expert content marketer on their way to work, and the next it'll be me, Joe, flying solo on my commute to work diving deeper on one specific topic from the week before.Today I run through 6 teams & departments within the business that content teams should be working with every day. In this episode, we speak with Giles Whiting, COO & MD, Forsta, the HX (Human Experience Platform) that breaks down the silos between CX (Customer Experience), Employee Experience (EX), and Market Research – so that companies can get a deeper, more complete understanding of the experiences of their audiences. We talk with Giles about his views on why many European B2B SaaS companies fail with their sales efforts in the US and discuss the following themes: - Is there such a thing as global Product-Market fit - Do you have access to the right talent to take on the US - US is pay to play, do you have the necessary funds to sustain - Do you have a game plan that is solid enough These are some of the many topics we address with Giles and what you can do to overcome these challenges to ensure you set yourself up for success. Tune in to listen to Giles's advice on taking your business to the States, and doing so successfully!

Welcome back to Intellicast! Brian Lamar and Producer Brian are diving into another news-fueled episode today. In the episode's first segment, Brian Lamar goes rogue with an off-script news story that literally hits his inbox as we were recording. Schlesinger Group announced that Reed Cundiff will be their new CEO replacing Steve Schlesinger who has served as CEO for the past 20 years. Friend of the podcast, Isaac Rogers was also promoted to President. Continuing with this theme, the guys discuss Dynata's announcement that they have appointed Mike Petrullo formerly of Dodge Data & Analytics as CEO, replacing Gary Laben. This leads down a bit of a rabbit hole on big-name free agents in MRX and what they might be doing next.  In the next segment, Brian and Brian chat about Forsta's partnership with CX data specialist GemSeek to launch a predictive net promoter score that will allow clients to access predictions about “silent customers” who don't respond to surveys or submit feedback. This begs the question—if your experience is just "fine” do you really need to complete an NPS survey? ESOMAR also announced the results of its council elections. Brian Lamar and Producer Brian discuss some of the highlights including friend of the podcast, Lisa Wilding-Brown's reelection, and former guest Nikki Lavoie's nomination as President-Elect. They also touch on the news that Verisk has sold Mackenzie Wood to Veritas Capital for over $3.1B—a huge acquisition. The episode wraps up with two Escalent stories. The first is about how they have launched a new solution called Tech TrustBuilder to help understand how brands can build consumer trust in technology. The second is Escalent's acquisition of Rhein Associates and the launch of a new practice focused on Commercial and Fleet vehicles. Thanks for listening! Welcome back to Intellicast! On today's episode, Brian Lamar and Producer Brian dig into the latest news from around the market research industry. The start of the episode is a bit more personal than normal as Producer Brian talks about how his son (Blake) broke his wrist over the weekend by falling off the monkey bars. He tells how Monday was a bit of a whirlwind finding out that his wrist was broken and getting it casted, leading to some serious storms that hit the Cincinnati area that evening. Brian Lamar then gives a full recap of the Scurry that he, Producer Brian and 2 others from EMI participated in a couple of weeks back. They reflect on the types of activities they had to do, their competitive spirit for it, the results, and the team building that took place. The guys then turn to some market research news. First, the guys discuss the news that Dynata is acquiring Branded Research. Brian gives his thoughts on the acquisition and how he sees it fitting into the overall Dynata ecosystem. Next, the guys talk about the new funding GroupSolver got to expand its platform and go-to-market strategy. They also talk about the new Human Experience Partner Program launched by Forsta. Then, they talk about the news from Ipsos about their 4-year growth plan. They talk about how the plan tied back to the conversation they had with Steve Schlesinger a couple of weeks ago around their acquisition strategy.  In the final story, the guys discuss the news that a long-awaited (and much hoped for) national data privacy bill appears to be on the fast track. They talk about what it can entail, and what it can mean for the market research industry. Also, during this discussion, Producer Brian's son makes an appearance on the video stream.  Thanks for listening! Welcome back to Intellicast! We have been gone a few weeks, but are happy to be back with a jam-packed news episode this week. Kicking it off, Producer Brian and Brian Lamar discuss a bit of personal news for Brian as he was promoted to Chief Insights Officer. Loyal listeners may know that he called himself that around April Fool's, but now it is a reality! Then the guys jump into some market research news. First, they discuss the news about Meta (formerly Facebook) and an upcoming class-action lawsuit about how they inflated their audience measurements, as well as a lawsuit out of Illinois about how they are keeping photos of people who do not have Facebook profiles. The guys talk about the implications, both to market research and overall. Next, Brian and Brian touch on the announced merger of NPD and IRI. They discuss whether a rebrand is coming, or if there is enough brand equity in one of the current names that they keep it.  The next story leads to a broader discussion. It starts with the story about a new report from DISQO that found 38% of consumers incorrectly recall their digital shopping journey behavior. Brian Lamar had sent some notes from a presentation he attended at IIeX from Michael Lancor at P&G about their InTech sensor that measures what consumers do and they compare with what they say they do. Brian Lamar and Producer Brian talk about the impact this could have on the future of market research, as well as some of the potential causes or biases that are leading to this disconnect. In the last few stories, the guys touch on the latest earnings report from Ipsos, Press Ganey completing their Forsta acquisition, Kristen Luck being added to Rival Technologies Board, and Geraldine Proust being named as ESOMAR's new head of professional standard. We know it has been a long layoff between episodes, hopefully, you enjoy this one! Thanks for listening! Brian Lamar and Producer Brian kick off the episode discussing the Super Bowl. They talk about the Bengals run to the big game, the loss, but also what it meant for the city. They also touch on some of their favorite ads from the game, as well as the half-time show. Then the guys talk about the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Both guys (who are huge Olympics fans) discuss why they are not watching them this year, whether it is due to the host country, the impact COVID is having, to the myriad of scandals that are being announced on what seems like a daily basis. After the long sports discussion, the guys dive into the upcoming conferences in April and May. In what seems like a jammed-packed calendar, Brian talks about how excited he is to be getting back out on the road. In our last segment of the episode, the guys touch on a few recent market research news stories. First, they discuss the acquisition of Forsta by Press Ganey and what it could mean for legacy market research Forsta customers. They then touch on the recent 2021 financials report from Zappi, who registered a 30% YOY growth. Barry O'Reilly welcomes Gibson Biddle and Melissa Perri as this week's guests on the Unlearn Podcast. Gibson is the former CPO of Netflix; he is also a speaker, teacher, writer, and author of the “Ask Gib” product newsletter. Melissa is Senior Lecturer at Harvard Business School, a member of the Board of Directors at Forsta, and host of the Product Thinking Podcast. In today's show, Gibson, Melissa and Barry review their working experience over the past six months, discuss progress challenges in the US, and define what personal and business growth means to them in the year ahead. The CAMP Model The CAMP model, designed by Gibson, is an evaluation of how you feel about the overall quality of your job and career.  C is about community: do you enjoy working with your boss and your peers at your company? Do you feel a connection to the customers that you serve?  A is about autonomy: do you feel you have the opportunity to set your own direction?  M is about mastery: are you learning?  P is about purpose: do you feel a connection to the work that you're trying to do? Do you feel like it will help “dent the universe” in some way?  These questions are asked to be answered on a scale of 1 to 10. “I generally want everyone I work with to have an 8, 9, or a 10,” Gibson shares. “I can usually figure out ways to get a 6 or 7 to an 8, eventually.” CAMP-S “I added another letter to the CAMP model,” Melissa admits. “The S is for scale. In the last board of directors meeting, I talked about how I burned out pretty hard during [the pandemic] while I was scaling [my] consultancy, so I'm trying to focus on things that scale, where it's not me working 24/7.” Barry asks Melissa and Gibson to evaluate their experience over the past 6 months using the CAMP model. The HBS Case Method Melissa talks about her first year doing the case method with her students. Harvard's case method is an interactive, discussion-focused teaching approach that uses cases about true scenarios that have happened in the past to engage students in problem-solving and decision-making debates. “When the class has a discussion, they can take it anywhere, but as a teacher you have to pull them back a little,” she explains. “You make sure they take the big takeaways, but let them figure it out themselves and surface the ‘aha' moments.” How To Take a Break Gibson and Melissa explore ways to encourage Barry to be more disciplined in taking time off. “What I did last year when I was feeling burnout… [was] use Calendly to block out time,” Melissa says. “I don't do anything else on Friday unless it's something I'm gonna get joy out of… Ultimately, it's about knowing the world's not going to end if you're not there.” Gibson talks about how he carves out time. “I tend to ski my age in days each year, and I'm turning 60 this year so that's 60 days,” he adds. “[Additionally,] I always felt like it's healthy to take a week off every quarter.” Questions About Culture & Autonomy “You have to work to define, edit and live the values [of a world-class culture] over time; it's a forever process,” Gibson tells Barry. “Culture is the skills and behaviors you expect from all of your employees. Frankly, the CEO and exec team have to be very invested in [the culture] because they are the role models.” Melissa shares how too much autonomy can hold you back from learning new things. “I felt like I was the only one responsible for my success, and it was never enough.” Resources Gibson Biddle on LinkedIn | Twitter GibsonBiddle.com  Melissa Perri on LinkedIn | Twitter MelissaPerri.com
