One of the signature symptoms of complex trauma is difficulties in controlling one's emotions. In light of this, today we discuss co-regulation. Tuning in, you'll hear what co-regulation is and why it's such an important part of being human. Complex trauma affects a child's ability to co-regulate and, as a cycle-breaking parent, helping your children co-regulate can be an important part of your own healing. However, finding ongoing co-regulatory support for yourself as an adult can be challenging, and it's important that you can do this for yourself. Today, we talk about how to identify a protective instinct and some of the various defensive strategies we may resort to when trying to control our emotions, before we break down some practical examples of how to deal with ‘I must' energy, ‘I won't' energy, ‘I can't' energy, and ‘I will destroy' energy. To get traction that becomes foundation to the way that people lead, you must understand the cores of power inside the organization. In this episode, I share examples of how to partner—or dance—with the power core.
Building a Lineman: Back/Core Strength On this edition of the Bober Academy Football Podcast Nolan Clasuen of Midwest Movement Elkhorn (https://www.midwestmovementelkhorn.com/) explains why back and core strength is critical to Offensive Line Dominance. Core strength is the actually based on proper breathing! Stabilization of the core area is the basis for any body movement and performance. To access the power of the lower body connected to the ground it must transfer from the lower body to the upper body with a strong core. An Offensive Lineman's weapons are his hands, shoulders, and inadvertently the helmet & neck. No matter how much you bench press, its useless if it isn't connected to your Power Core. To link the power of your legs through the ground and the weapons in your upper body you MUST have a strong foundation throughout your core! The diaphragm muscle is the key to proper breathing and engaging the core. Breathing by expanding the chest is not the correct way! Breathing where the stomach area expands creates inter-abdominal pressure supporting the spine and relieving pressure on the lower back. This is true core strength. A great test is to cough or grunt and feel how your abdominal muscles contract. Thats the feeling an Offensive Lineman needs to feel when striking. So how do you now if you're doing it correct? Nolan recommends focusing on the core first when doing any strengthening exercises or training. Basically, stick your gut out and go to work. Watch yourself in the mirror to make sure your pelvis is in line with your spine at all times. Another key is to NOT arch your back when lifting (like squats) or striking. For Offensive Linemen do NOT throw your head back when striking or in pass blocking. I will provide a video soon to show you some drills to work on proper core/back positioning. One last trick is to grunt when lifting or applying force. Have you ever noticed how tennis players grunt when they swing? That's because they're engaging their core to apply maximum force and power to the ball. As Nolan said, proper core position & breathing is paramount to all athletes. Practice engaging your core and see how much stronger you will be. Apply that to your training and transition it to your blocking technique and you will Dominate on the Gridiron! Chris Bober went from a walk-on at Division II UNO to NFL starter by hard work, determination, & becoming a master of Offensive Line technique. After graduating from Omaha South High School Chris redshirted then became a 4 year starter helping his team win NCC Conference Champions in 1996 & 1998. He was a team captain and named to All America Team after his Junior & Senior seasons. Chris went undrafted in the 2000 NFL Draft & signed with the NY Giants. He was cut after his rookie training camp, signed to the Practice Squad & finally to the active roster for the 2000 NFC Champion Giants. Chris stayed with Giants 4 seasons becoming the starting Center in 2002-2003. In 2004 Chris signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs where he played 4 seasons starting games at Guard & Tackle. Chris retired in 2008 after multiple hip surgeries. That an ancient king had given them to his sons for safe keeping. A Chinese village is being ransacked when one member leads the leader of the group to a cave, we see one half of the medallion and the leader reveals herself, and that it's “modern” times telling someone they found it. The city scape of New Angles in 2007, after the big quake frames the story. Koga activates the soul half of the medallion he has and instructs his minions to find the other half.S:-What's with the big fans on top of the buildings?-The special effects aren't NEARLY as good as T2We then meet the Lee brothers They're in a martial arts completion that is lost because of Billy be dq'ed, They're also shown to have the other half of the dragon medallion. George Hamilton and Vanna White host the evening news, and Andy Dick as the weather man. It seems the police have given up the city at night and roaming gangs control the streets, as the Lees are surrounded by “The Mowhawks.” A car chase ensures where its shown cars are fueled by garbage and paper. After a wreck, they're saved by Powercore and Marion. Satori gives the brothers more background.S:-“Eat some fist, butt-head”-Those computer graphics are terrible-The Abobo guy is so over actedBack with Koga, Abobo gives him information about the Lee brothers, he is rewarded by being experimented on with new steroids. It's shown Marion is the daughter of the police chief. Koga finds where the Lee brothers are staying and comes for the medallion. We find out he used to be called Victor Guisman, but “nobody would party with him,” so he changed it to Koga Shuko. When he sees Billy wearing the medallion, a large fight breaks out. Koga using the medallion and we're introduced to the new Super Abobo. After it seems to be over, Satori tries to get the medallion from Billy, and it's revealed she's been possessed by Koga. After getting Kaga out of her, she sacrifices herself to save the brothers. All the gangs are shown to be meeting under the guidance of the billed, “Maniac Leader” (Micheal Berryman), who is quickly dispatched by Koga. Super Abobo was showing to have survived the explosion and the boys mourn Satori.S:-Classic rebelling daughter against strict father.-Obvious that Jimmy Lee is a real martial artist, Scott Wolf isn't-Abobo off the stage, “nothin' but net”-Terrible one liners, “is it just me, or is it hot in here”-Michael Berryman: Sept 4, 1948, has hypohidroic (hypo-hid-droic) Ectodermal (echo-dermal) dysplasia, a condition where he has no sweat glands, hair, fingernails or teeth. He was quoted as saying, “I was pretty we grounded. I was being teased and whatever and I didn't have anger skills, so I would go to the parents and say your children are brats and tell them they were bad parents.”The brothers have a small fight and resolve to work together and come up with a plan. As they walk, the end up in the middle of a super gang fight. After almost escaping and barricading themselves in a boat house, they escape on a boat and that chase begins. The boat chase ends with the Hollywood river catching fire, and seemingly the brothers die in a crash, but of course they don't. Some exposition they agree to ask Marion for help. She has been, basically, torturing Abobo for information. The brothers show up, ask for help, and invade the Shuko plaza. They witness Koga attempting to bribe Marions dad, which doesn't work. Another fight breaks out, the brothers and Marion vs Kaga inhabiting various bodies. And The police chief against Whip; who looses. Jimmy is captured.S:-“You're Ug-Lee, I'm Home-Lee…” Also, the way they “high five” balled fish and open hand… Me and my friends did this after this movie. We were super cool.-I thought the matte paintings were pretty good. Well done.-The guys fighting over who follows Alyssa Milano into the tunnels.-Why does Billy just randomly have fishing string in his pocket?-Channel 69 news… hahaAs the gangs riot, the chief tries to rally his officers to go back out on the streets and take them back, but no one follows. Jimmy being captured, Koga gives exposition and more background about working with their father. As Billy starts to get romantic with Marian, the gangs attack the Powercore base. Abobo finally sees what Koga has done to him, and goes berserk. Jimmy arrives, possessed by Koga. As they fight, Billy gives up on the medallion, and throws it away, but it comes back and grants him the power of the body. During the fight, Billy losses the medallion, Koga grabs it and units them. He then splits into two monster fighters. As they fight, Abobo enters and tells Marian to turn on the lights, allowing the brothers to defeat the monsters, and in doing so, catch the medallions, and then they unite them. Jimmy enters Kogas body, does some slap-stick, confesses to the chief and is arrested and they hear sirens in the night. As they all celebrate, Abobo shows up, asks to join them, and thinking Billy has possessed him, lets him drive… When Billy shows up in the back seat, they realize their mistake and scream. We end on the henchmen walking away arguing who's fault it was.S:-The whole thing is so overly dramatic.-The double dragon video game in the Powercore HQ-The obviously fake swords during the boss fight.-“You're weak like your father” “You're ugly like your mother…” JFC.-This whole movie about the double dragons, they get them for 5 minutes only to beat up a normal dude. About Rebecca Gebhardt Brizi: With both Italian and American citizenship, I grew up in Switzerland attending British, Swiss and American schools. My upbringing was a natural education in avoiding “lost in translation” moments by verifying information before assuming I understood it. This has served me well in business, applying a data-driven approach to my work. By the age of 10 I had lived in Spanish-speaking Argentina, German-speaking northern Switzerland and Italian-speaking southern Switzerland. By the age of 18 I had experienced the Swiss German, British, Swiss Italian and American school systems. Change has always been an opportunity for growth and learning. Growing up in Switzerland with regular trips to my father’s family home in Colorado makes me comfortable when surrounded by mountains. It doesn’t have to be the Rockies or the Alps – try Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains for an experience “as sweet and clear as moonlight through the pines.” On the other hand, I never tire of walking through the streets of Florence, Italy with my mother, who was born around the corner from Dante’s home. In those narrow medieval streets, she intertwines her life history with that of Dante, DaVinci and Giotto – providing me with a rich family heritage. At 18 I moved to the Hudson Valley in New York to attend Vassar College, followed by a move to London where I attended graduate school and continued to live for many years following. My studies included Classical Greek and Art Connoisseurship. Those disciplines, followed by work experience in fashion and online publishing, led me through a meandering path to the software industry, with strategic and management responsibilities. I now reside in Atlanta, enjoying the vibrant startup community, diverse population and almost year-round outdoor sports and activities. Because Switzerland does not have a habit of summer jobs for students, knocking on corporate doors asking for three month employment raised a few eyebrows. It also gave me rich work experiences in summer school administration, a new local news webzine and in the brand management department of a major fashion brand. After my graduate studies I followed the industry path with a job in a major auction house, but my “experience radar” pushed me to an opportunity I could not have predicted: join a startup business as the third person in the door. Here, I was the strategy counter-weight to the product visionary: the founder would bring ideas of where he wanted the business to go, and I found the ways to make it happen. Within a couple of years, by reviewing what the company finances could tell us, we decided to pivot our product placement and entered the enterprise software space, “starting-up” all over again. Once the business was established in the UK and Australia, I proposed that we tackle a new market in the United States. This is when I moved to Atlanta and boot-strapped a US operations office, getting to “start-up” a business for the third time. Spending 11 years in-house I oversaw business planning, go to market strategies and general operations globally as well as for the North American market. I participated in two successful rounds of fund-raising and established a customer retention rate of over 90%, both by volume and value. The nature of my work meant internal business management, as well as helping our top clients build their own business cases for purchasing enterprise software. This was invaluable experience in keeping an internal view of the corporate word to which my clients belonged. Since January 2017 I have been consulting full time. My current clients include sole- practitioners and small businesses, with articles published in the research journal Jinfo and speaking opportunities with PowerCore and the Alliston Group events. Welcome to Disrupting Japan, straight talk from Japan’s most successful entrepreneurs. I'm Tim Romero and thanks for joining me. You know, gaming has always pushed the limits of both computer hardware and the interfaces we use to interact with computers. Jia Shen, of PowerCore, is blurring the distinction between the online and offline interaction. Powercore enables video games to react to the presence of physical object. For example, if you owned a figurine of a superhero, that hero could appear in the game. It’s a simple interaction that radically changes the way we view the digital-analog divide. Of course, as with all technologies, adoption is never smooth, and Jia explains some of the mistakes that burned Disney, and some of the major market players. It seems that, as is so often the case, the secret to introducing innovative technology, is to do only as much as you absolutely have to, and then watch how your users react. It’s a simple idea in principle but there are surprising reasons why some of the most influential companies in the industry have trouble following it. Now, PowerCore does toys to life or sometimes it’s called offline-online business, but why don’t you explain basically what it is and who uses it. Jia: Sure. The toys to life is a model, that from our perspective, Japan has done a lot of pioneering, but the United States, in maybe the last 5 or 6 years, have made a very large business out of it. So we point to, in the US, Skylanders from Activision, Disney had a big one called Infinity, featuring a lot of the great Disney characters. Nintendo, LEGO, they all have some forays into this. And specifically it’s toys that are collectible, that have a strong interaction with video games. So the guys that do it on a large scale, they usually have console games, and you have different characters, which you can stick into the game, they have different power-ups, they have different game mechanics.
