The best Operators I know exhibit "adaptive excellence." They can be dropped into any brand new situation, use their experience and the context of the new situation to figure out what will work best in this new environment, and ultimately thrive. Our guest today is a perfect example of someone who exhibits adaptive excellence. That someone is Dina Otero, VP Demand Generation at Mission Cloud. After a decade of working in SaaS at companies like Confirmit (now Forsta) and Aprimo, Dina made the jump last year to a Mission Cloud, an AWS Premier Tier managed services provider. Not only did Dina have to transition from her SaaS background into Services, but over the course of her career, she also managed to grow from starting in Marketing Operations roles to ultimately leading all of Demand Generation. In our conversation, we explore which SaaS lessons she was able to combine with some creativity in a Services business model, how you run marketing within a competitive partner ecosystem like AWS, and why she says her background in Marketing Ops is the single most important factor in her career growth.Like this episode? "AI won't replace us, it will elevate us!" Ed Breault, CMO at Aprimo, sheds light on the transformative power of AI in content operations. By embracing AI, radical transparency, and continuous growth, marketers can unlock their full potential and redefine the future of the industry. It's time to adapt and thrive! In today's fast-paced business landscape, companies must constantly evolve to stay ahead of the curve. The integration of AI-powered technologies in content operations is proving to be a game-changer for organizations looking to manage their content supply chain efficiently. In a recent interview, Ed Breault, CMO at Aprimo, shared his insights on how the company is leveraging AI, the importance of radical transparency, and advice for fellow CMOs navigating the rapidly evolving landscape. Discussion points include: Aprimo, an AI-powered content operations platform, aims to help marketers manage the entire content supply chain by combining people, processes, systems, and data. To adapt to the rapidly evolving AI landscape, CMOs should lean in, adopt, and embrace new technologies, using them as tools for growth and advancement. Radical transparency, exemplified through accessible OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) and communication channels, fosters a culture of collaboration and connection within an organization. AI should be viewed as a co-pilot or support system, augmenting human capabilities rather than as a threat to job security. Staying uncomfortable and embracing change are key to personal and professional growth, allowing individuals to push their boundaries and achieve more continuously. The insights shared by Ed Breault provide a valuable perspective on the role of AI in content operations and its potential to transform the marketing landscape. By embracing new technologies, fostering a culture of radical transparency, and continually pushing personal and professional boundaries, individuals and organizations alike can thrive in an ever-changing business environment. As we move forward, we must view AI as a co-pilot that enhances human capabilities, ultimately enabling us to focus on what truly makes us human and unlocking new avenues for growth and success. Like it or not, we are all in the digital experience business. We demand it as consumers and enterprises are challenged with continuously raising the bar to keep consumers coming back for more. But doing this at every stage of the customer journey can be incredibly daunting. Sitecore is a company unifying data, content, commerce, and experiences to empower brands like L'Oréal, Microsoft, and United Airlines to deliver unforgettable interactions across every touchpoint. The company also has a big event in Chicago called Symposium, where Mindy Kaling will speak. There will also be 100+ sessions with top global brands sharing how they are creating digital experiences. This week, Sitecore released its 2022 U.S. Holiday Report with Paige O'Neill, Sitecore CMO, advising, "This season, shoppers will seek out brands that offer competitive pricing, buy-now-pay-later options, and low-cost shipping. Brands that empathize with consumers' inflation-forced financial constraints and focus on meeting their needs by delivering content that focuses on value and shows authentic empathy — where they can — will come out ahead this holiday season. In today's Tech Talks Daily Podcast episode, Paige shares insights from the Reality of Holiday Shopping research and reveals what we can expect at Sitecore's Symposium 2022 event. Leaders of B2B - Interviews on B2B Leadership, Tech, SaaS, Revenue, Sales, Marketing and Growth
Ed Breault, Chief Marketing Officer at Aprimo, talks about his profession as a marketer and its relevance to his company. Aprimo is responsible for digital asset management, focused on content. Ed is very familiar with this, being a podcaster himself. Ed thinks that whether you're B2B or B2C, the marketing fundamentals remain the same; marketers should focus on H2H (human to human) buying. People flock to your brand and your messaging based on their need and their trust in the seller. Ed talks about how marketing content has shifted due to easier accessibility. The ease of entry as a content creator along with affordable media has expanded a creator's reach. The caveat though is that creators now have to compete for attention. This contrasts with traditional media which was about competing for time with a captive audience. Ed advises creators to know their audience well. Value isn't always about learning—it's also about entertaining. Expanding on this, Ed says that businesses need to really know their customers. This allows them to deliver the best customer experience. Being customer zero helps a business understand its customer's journey and improve CX.Business leaders looking to improve their customer experience and their marketing effectiveness will find this episode helpful.LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/edmundbreault/Marketing Cheat Codes Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/marketing-cheat-codes/id1599129734Website - https://www.aprimo.com/ This episode is brought to you by Content Allies.Content Allies helps B2B tech companies launch revenue-generating podcasts. It's time to break down real SaaS marketing problems - with a sour twist. Garrett Mehrguth interviews marketing leaders from around the world while they're challenged to get their words out - puckering with sour candy/food they consume throughout their conversation. Guest: Ed Breault, CMO at Aprimo!
This week I chat with Jeff Clark, Rockstar CMO Advisor, and former Forrester Research Director about content marketing platforms and ask if they are a one-hit-wonder or Wonderwall.Sticking with the theme of marketing technology and managing content, this week's guest is Ed Breault, the CMO of Aprimo, a SaaS Digital Asset Management and Work Management solution. A vendor that Forrester considers to be the leader in the Marketing Resource Management category. Ed is an accomplished marketing and software executive with over 15 years of business transformation and marketing experience, much of it working through the ranks of Aprimo. We talk about the journey of Aprimo from an independent company, to being acquired by Teradata to being divested and back as a brand, making acquisitions themselves. And I discover another rockstar CMO whose marketing inspiration has its roots in being in a band. Kelli Jones joined Allos Ventures in 2020. As Program Manager, Kelli will help Allos identify and evaluate investment opportunities and enhance its presence in the marketplace. She will also support Allos portfolio companies with activities such as investor and mentor introductions. Prior to joining Allos, Kelli was the Program Manager for Techstars, where she supported early stage start-ups in the Heritage Group Hardtech Accelerator; and was Director of People, Culture, and Brand for Givelify. Kelli is also a founder of Be Nimble Foundation and Black Hatch Fund, which support tech and tech-enabled start-ups founded by Black and Brown founders in Indiana. Before relocating to Indianapolis in 2017, Kelli lived in Los Angeles, CA, working as Director of Sales & Marketing for two venture-backed media companies, HipHopDX and Blavity. She spent the majority of her career in New York, running an event and experiential marketing agency working for brands like Google, HP, Microsoft, Lipton/Brisk, Redbull, Samsung, and Akai. Don co-founded Allos in 2010, but he did some pretty cool stuff before that, too. Don's tenacity and entrepreneurial drive exhibited itself early in his career, when he was so frustrated that Hewlett Packard had come on campus his senior year solely to recruit electrical engineers (as a production and operations management major, he was more of an industrial engineer) that he accosted the recruiter in the hallway and refused to let him leave until he'd managed to secure a job offer. After working as an operations manager in Hewlett Packard's Circuit Technology Group, serving on the corporate-wide team responsible for the selection of a new ERP system, and having co-founded two small software companies along the way, Don left HP for business school. Upon graduation, he joined The Boston Consulting Group as a consultant, and then Diageo, where he was a manager of strategy for Guinness Americas and Caribbean (he assures us that testing the product was not part of his job responsibilities, but merely a perk). He first moved into the venture capital world with the Fox Group in New York, where he participated in the early funding of companies including WebMD, before being recruited to join Gazelle TechVentures as its second managing director in April 2000. Gazelle was ranked in the top quartile for venture funds nationally for its 2000 vintage, and Don participated in all of the firm's successful investments, including Rubicon Technology (NASDAQ:RBCN), a former Russell 2000 company, where he served as executive chairman. And five years after meeting John, who was serving on the executive committee at Gazelle, Don agreed to join Blue Chip as a managing director, where he managed investments in software and services companies Aprimo and Intradiem. Don has served on the advisory boards of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centers for IU and Ball State, and is Chairman Emeritus of the advisory board for Indiana University’s School of Informatics and Computing. Don is a frequent lecturer at IU, Notre Dame, Butler University and has twice taught the Entrepreneurship capstone course at Purdue University. Brand experience is a promise that the buying experience will match the perceived value of the brand. Therefore, brand experience — education, enrichment, and human connection — begins well before a customer becomes a customer. When a prospect believes that the brand and the buying experience will match and when that expectation is met… a premium brand is born. In this episode, I interview Ed Breault, CMO at Aprimo, about developing his brand experience strategy. What we talked about: - Customer experience as a promise - His mission to rehumanize the brand experience at Aprimo - Achieving “extraordinary influence” within your target accounts - Personal brands as the new corporate brand - Doing your best work within your “life flow” Check out this resource we mentioned during the podcast: - Ed was profiled on DMNews 40Under40 - He explains the impact of Rehumanize Your Business Subscribe, listen, and rate/review the Customer Experience Podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play or Google Podcasts, and find more episodes on our blog.

Marketers are often proficient at diagnosing and patching holes in a funnel. We spot places where potential customers drop out of the buying process and fix or add touch-points accordingly. But what about the potential buyers who we don't even know about? According to Ed Breault, CMO of Aprimo, there is an entire "dark funnel" of people who are looking to buy a product in your category, who never make it onto your radar. According to Ed, using predictive data to illuminate this dark funnel can lead to stunning results. On this episode of Marketing Trends, Ed sits down with Ian to discuss how to illuminate the dark funnel and engage those potential customers with compelling content. He also discusses conversational marketing, ABM, and much more. Links: Full Notes & Quotes: http://bit.ly/2lw1OFo Ed’s LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/ed-breault-367b772/ Ed’s Twitter: twitter.com/edbreault Aprimo: aprimo.com 5 Key Takeaways: - Be a listener. "People love to talk and if you're the listener, you've got the advantage because you're collecting the data." - Identifying your "dark funnel" is crucial. It allows you to target the people who are in the market for your product who might not have otherwise considered you. - You can illuminate your dark funnel by using intent data and third-party data. - The best content fits a "how, now, wow" framework. Content should usefully show how to do something, offer commentary on what's happening right now, or blow people's minds with amazing experiences. - ABM campaigns are difficult to scale, and you shouldn't try to scale them too much. They are supposed to be limited and targeted. Bio: Ed is a “full-stack” marketer driving both the art and science aspects of marketing. Following last month’s announcement that Powderkeg has officially become a product company, my team and I have been doing some intensive planning on how to build a world-class customer experience (CX). With this in mind, I sought out Haresh Gangwani of Bolstra and Don Aquilano of Allos Ventures for this episode to get the perspective and advice of two experts in the SaaS Customer Success space. Gangwani and Aquilano have a combined 30 years of customer success experience, Gangwani as a business operator and Aquilano as an advisor and investor. Gangwani previously served in various VP roles at the enterprise software company Aprimo, where he developed such a passion for helping customers get value out of a product that he later launched his own customer success SaaS startup, Bolstra. Meanwhile, Aquilano invested in and sat on the boards of both Aprimo and Bolstra, which helped him form a close working relationship with Gangwani and taught him the incredible value of customer success from a financial and advisory perspective. Our guests provided some truly invaluable insights on why and how to make outstanding customer success practices a secret weapon for your SaaS business. I know I’ll be heeding their advice as we create our new customer experience strategy for Powderkeg. Enjoy the show, and please leave us a comment below to let us know if you liked the episode! You can also reach out to Gangwani and Aquilano on LinkedIn (links below) to thank them for sharing some of their wisdom on the podcast. In this episode with Don Aquilano and Haresh Gangwani, you’ll learn: -- How Gangwani conceived of Bolstra’s customer success platform -- What a true mentor/mentee relationship looks like, and why you need one -- The big difference between customer success and customer support -- Bolstra’s process for driving customer success with their SaaS product -- Why charging for customer success actually makes economic sense -- Why you need to commit to customer success early in the life of your business --- This episode of Powderkeg is brought to you by DeveloperTown.
