Cloud computing has fundamentally altered the information technology landscape, reshaping how organizations and consumers harness computational power. Within the cloud computing ecosystem, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) stands as a foundational pillar, providing a flexible and scalable solution for providing essential computing infrastructure over the Internet. As organizations strive to optimize their operations, enhance agility, and overcome the challenges of managing traditional on-premises infrastructure, IaaS presents a compelling solution. This cloud computing model gives users unprecedented control over their computing environments, allowing for dynamic customization and scaling. What is Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS)? Let's understand IaaS with an example. You need a powerful computer to run your business applications, store data, and handle your network traffic, but buying and maintaining all this equipment sounds overwhelming and expensive. This is where Infrastructure as a Service, or IaaS, comes in to save the day. IaaS is like renting all the IT resources you need over the Internet instead of buying and managing them yourself. It is like a virtual toolbox filled with computing power (processing capability), storage (space for data), and networking resources (connecting your systems) you need to keep your business running smoothly. You can access and use these resources anytime and only pay for what you use. IaaS offers a scalable and flexible solution for businesses and individuals to rent computing infrastructure rather than owning and maintaining physical hardware. Users can create, configure, and manage virtual servers and other resources through a web-based dashboard or API (Application Programming Interface). This model prevents the need for initial hardware capital expenditures, lowers operational expenses, and enables quick scaling in response to fluctuating demand. Medicare Advantage For Health Plans

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 21, 2022 15:03

"The operating infrastructure of health plans rely on technology to expedite processes, scale, react quickly to regulatory changes and changes in the market."Technology debt is the cost of maintaining legacy software systems over time, often built in hard code. Updates and workarounds are expensive and the process for implementation is slow, but there's also the opportunity cost, business goals and timelines to consider. In order to adapt to the fast-paced landscape of today's health plan operations, plans need to be nimble and adaptable to change to stay competitive. There are tool sets in the cloud that allow for innovation of processes, software products, and the ability to scale which wasn't previously available. There are many different ways to leverage the cloud and a spectrum of what it means to be cloud-native.  Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) takes all the same servers, infrastructure, and architecture that's in place today, keeps it in-tact and runs it virtually in the cloud. For many this has a lot of benefits, scales, and can be optimized. The next step in the evolution on the spectrum is Platform as a Service (PaaS). This gets rid of the limitation of having the infrastructure and architecture lifted into the cloud and it builds an infrastructure through code by leveraging the cloud-native storage, tools, and technology as the platform itself for software services, products and applications—allowing for greater innovation capacity. PaaS allows for quick scaling, up or down,  enhanced automation and connectivity between development pipelines, heightened security, API management, governance and toolsets. Beyond the cloud's abundant flexibility, speed and configurability, it's a more cost-effective environment.About Our GuestLarry Moncol leads Advantasure's product software and technology platforms.

CWSI, one of Europe's most experienced mobile and cloud security specialists, has announcesdit will reduce over-permission risks for businesses in Ireland and the UK with the launch of Microsoft Entra Permissions Management. CWSI is one of the first Microsoft partners to provide the solution, which it's introducing in response to increased multi-cloud adoption among its customers. Microsoft Entra acts as a unified permissions management tool for businesses, enabling them to automate privilege management across multiple cloud platforms in a consistent and thorough manner. It enables privilege management in both cloud infrastructure and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platforms and is designed to support across Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The technology proactively monitors and remediates permission risks for any identity across multi-cloud environments in real-time, while mitigating over-privilege issues and ensuring compliance. It enables organisations to control their infrastructure, protect, verify, and govern data, and detect exposures in their security postures. It permits the benchmarking of the Cloud platform against proven industry standards such as CIS and NIST permitting real time monitoring of the risk surface by the CISO and security teams. The automation and tools provided ensure that companies are able to get the maximum capability across multiple vendors platforms through the normalization that Entra Permissons Management provides to the administrative user. Where gaps in training/certification and production/workload pressure brings the risk of error Entra Permissions Management reduces or removes these. CWSI's highly skilled and accredited Microsoft experts will provide ongoing managed support to customers following the deployment of the Entra Permissions Management solution. It can guide them through the stages, identifying the priorities, and deliver a hardened operational platform with minimal permission risk. CWSI is a five-time Microsoft Gold Partner and was recently named Microsoft Ireland's Partner of the Year 2022 for Security. CWSI launched its dedicated Microsoft Security and Endpoint Management practice in 2019 and since then, has invested more than €2.5 million in its ongoing development. Last year, it became the first Irish Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP), to become a member of the Microsoft Intelligent Security Association (MISA). MISA is an ecosystem of independent software vendors and managed security service providers that have integrated their solutions with Microsoft security products to better defend against a world of increasing threats. Ronan Murphy, CEO, CWSI: “We're excited to deepen our partnership with Microsoft following the introduction of this innovative cloud solution to our Microsoft portfolio. It comes at a crucial time when the number of machine identities are growing rapidly, which is increasing the risk of breaches and over-privilege in organisations. High turnover rates and past employees retaining privileged access to data is also a major concern for businesses and this solution gives organisations better control over its permissions, ultimately reducing cyber risks. “Identity is the foundation of security and with the rapid acceleration of digital transformation, technology and the cloud now touch business operations on a daily basis. There are millions of interactions happening every second. Security challenges have become broader, and they require a broader solution – Microsoft Entra Permissions Management is enabling organisations to confidently reduce their risk in real-time.” See more stories here.

Software as a Service、PaaSはPlatform as a Service、IaaSはInfrastructure as a Serviceの略称です。 そういう意味ではPlatform as a Serviceということになると全部お任せで、MicrosoftのAzureやGoogleのGoogle CloudやAmazonのAWSの世界三大クラウドと言っているのはこのPlatform as a Serviceのことです。

The market is flooded with financial data. Firms are sitting on goldmines of information, yet most are not deriving maximum value from it. To unlock this value, data integration is key. It enables different systems, including those used by advisors and their clients, to communicate with each other. By having all of the data centralized in one place and accessible by all relevant systems, firms are able to gain a holistic view of their clients and their portfolios. Only then can they deliver truly excellent customer experiences. In this episode, Tommy talks with Kyle Van Pelt, CEO at Milemarker, an Integration as a Service (IaaS) company that delivers a fully-managed data integration platform for financial services companies. Prior to joining Milemarker, Kyle held leadership positions with several advisor tech companies, including wealth management platform Skience and risk management software Riskalyze.  Kyle talks with Tommy about how technology integration is a challenge for advisory businesses and how Milemarker can help solve it, new developments taking place in the wealth management industry, and why data integration is key to delivering excellent client and advisor experiences. Key Takeaways [01:57] - How Kyle began his professional career. [03:58] - Kyle's journey into the fintech and wealth tech industries. [05:39] - What cold calling is and how it works. [19:04] - What developments have been taking place in the wealth management industry. [23:05] - The power of data in delivering excellent advisor and client experiences. [26:29] - What Kyle learned from college sports setbacks. Quotes [13:48] - "Every financial advisor at the end of the day, their business is how well they serve their clients. So, when your technology is not talking to itself the way that you need it to, these firms cannot accurately represent themselves the way that they want to to clients and to prospective clients ultimately because they are not in control of their own data journey." - Kyle Van Pelt [22:27] - "We like to say at Milemarker, it's your data, your rules. If you have all of that at your control, you can write the rules about what type of client experience you want to build, what type of advisor experience you want to build, and what type of executive experience you want to build." - Kyle Van Pelt [25:02] - "You shouldn't be driving around with a foggy windshield in your business. You shouldn't be driving around without being able to answer the strategic questions. There's no doubt that cloud computing as a platform and a technology has been rapidly growing and evolving in the past decade. Everything, I mean everything is in the cloud nowadays. But is that growth sustainable? On this episode of the Software and Technology podcast brought to you by Marketscale, host Sean Heath sought the answer from two experts: Ed Stockton, Vice President of Services and Pablo Gomez, Services Engagement Group Manager, both at ViON. The Virginia-based company implements and manages Infrastructure “as-a-Service” (IaaS) and Platform “as-a-Service” (PaaS) as well as multicloud solutions including private, hybrid, public cloud, and multicloud. "I don't think there's any risk of the cloud computing infrastructure disappearing anytime soon," Stockton said. "The sustainability of the platform itself is very confident." Confidence is good considering the sheer volume of data that cloud platforms are storing. "We're creating more data in one year than we'll have created in the entire history of humankind," Stockton said. But that amount of data can lead to cloud sprawl, similar to service sprawl a decade ago. "Whenever people are accessing cloud technologies, it's very easy to turn systems on, use them, and kind of forget about them," Gomez said. "When you need another system, you figure it's really easy so I can turn on another one. Then before you know it if you're not closely managing your cloud environment, you can have all these machines stood up and the problem is you're paying for systems and workload that you're not even really using anymore."

Time was, the chief disasters that worried IT were natural disasters – things like fires, floods, earthquakes and tornados. In other words, you had to worry about your on-premises data center going down. But that’s changing, as more pieces of your data center move offsite. With Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) becoming more common, the ways you protect your data have to evolve. That’s especially true when it comes to the biggest IaaS provider of all, Amazon Web Services (AWS). The AWS public cloud and disaster recovery is the topic of this “10 on Tech” podcast, featuring Cloud Daddy CEO Joe Merces. He chats with ActualTech Media Partner James Green about the new ways you’re vulnerable in the cloud era, and how to keep yourself safe from these new threats. Highlights of the show include: The changing disaster recovery landscape How ransomware has forced new thinking about data protection Real-world examples of the frightening impact of ransomware What “security hygiene” is and why it’s crucial Why security in the public cloud is different Resource links from the show: Cloud Daddy -- https://www.clouddaddy.com/ Atlanta's ransomware attack may cost the city $17 Million -- https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/cybersecurity/atlanta-s-ransomware-attack-may-cost-the-city-17m.html The rise of targeted ransomware -- https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2018/09/11/the-rise-of-targeted-ransomware/ We hope you enjoy this episode; and don’t forget to subscribe to the show on iTunes, Google Play, or Stitcher.

Do you realize that literally every product and service is slowly moving towards subscriptions?  First it was your essential services - like Cable TV and Phone. Then it was channels like HBO and ShowTime. Then Netflix popularized the Unlimited DVD's by mail model. Then it came to music with Spotify. And then it was software providers like Adobe - did you know that you can't even buy just Photoshop any more? You HAVE to sign up for their entire Creative Cloud Subscription Service even if you want to use just one software out of their entire suite of products. And now it's coming to hardware - recently, Microsoft announced that they're launching an Xbox subscription which comes with an actual Xbox gaming console, and 2 separate streaming services, all bundled into one monthly fee. Software as a Service - SaaS, Platform as a Service - PaaS, Infrastructure as a Service - IaaS, Desktop as a Service - DaaS, the list just keeps going. What does all this have to do with you?

Cloud computing is a paradigm for using IT services with characteristics such as flexible and scalable service usage, on-demand availability, and pay-as-you-go billing. Respective services are called cloud services and their nature usually motivates a differentiation in three layers: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) for cloud services offering functionality of hardware resources in a virtualised way, Platform as a Service (PaaS) for services acting as execution platforms, and Software as a Service (SaaS) representing applications provided in a cloud computing way. Any of these services is offered with the illusion of unlimited scalability. The infinity gained by this illusion implies the need for some kind of regulation mechanism to manage sup- ply and demand. Today’s static pricing mechanisms are limited in their capabilities to adapt to dynamic characteristics of cloud environments such as changing workloads. The solution is a dy- namic pricing approch compareable to today’s exchanges. This requires comparability of cloud services and the need of standardised access to avoid vendor lock-in. To achieve comparability, a classification for cloud services is introcuced, where classes of cloud services representing tradable goods are expressed by the minimum requirements for a certain class. The main result of this work is a framework for exchange-based trading of cloud com- puting commodities, which is composed of four core components derived from existing ex- change market places. An exchange component takes care of accepting orders from buyers and sellers and determines the price for the goods. A clearing component is responsible for the fi- nancial closing of a trade. The settlement component takes care of the delivery of the cloud service. A rating component monitors cloud services and logs service level agreement breaches to calculate provider ratings, especially for reliability, which is an important factor in cloud computing. The framework establishes a new basis for using cloud services and more advanced business models. Additionally, an overview of selected economic aspects including ideas for derivative financial instruments like futures, options, insurances, and more complex ones is pro- vided. A first version of the framework is currently being implemented and in use at Deutsche Bo ̈rse Cloud Exchange AG.
