Will got a chance to attend the Switch 2 launch event at Nintendo's brand new San Francisco store and then started feverishly digging into the fundamentals of the new hardware, so this week we had an impromptu discussion about his hands-on impressions so far. Turns out there's a lot going on in this thing, from the delightfully musical new controller haptics to the surprisingly low-tech magnetic Joy-Con attachment, upgraded Switch 1 performance, GameCube emulation, and a bunch of other interesting topics. Read transcriptHULK SMASH… your expectations! This week on Play Comics, we're going green with rage as we dive into 2005's The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction – the game that asked the important question: “What if we gave players the power to literally punch a helicopter out of the sky and then use a bus as a baseball bat?” Developed by Radical Entertainment for the PS2, Xbox, and GameCube, this comic book adaptation threw subtlety out the window faster than Banner throws a tantrum. Forget stealth missions or carefully planned strategies – this game was all about embracing your inner gamma-powered toddler and turning entire city blocks into your personal sandbox of destruction. Joining us for this episode of controlled chaos is Matt Storm from the fantastic podcasts “Fun” and Games and Reignite! They'll help us explore how this title managed to capture the pure, unadulterated joy of being an unstoppable force of nature with anger management issues. Together, we'll discuss whether throwing cars at military helicopters counts as a valid combat strategy, and why sometimes the best solution to every problem is just… more smashing. So strap in, podcast listeners – we're about to go from zero to “HULK STRONGEST THERE IS!” faster than you can say “you wouldn't like me when I'm angry.” Warning: No buildings, vehicles, or military installations were harmed in the making of this episode… but we can't make the same promise about our gaming controllers. HULK PODCAST! Learn such things as: Does anyone want to play as Bruce Banner? Will anyone write a comic based on a game that's based on a comic? Is this game just a modern retelling of Rampage? And if so, is that a problem? And so much more! You can find Matt @dj_stormageddon on Instagram, and Twitch, @djstormageddon on BlueSky, and to check out all of the shows they do check out DJStormageddon.com for “Fun” and Games (for looks at video games), Reignite (for a deep look at a video game series which started in the mass Effect universe and is now in the Dragon Age universe), or Screen Snark (which has ended but when I checked you could still grab episodes). NEW FORMAT TEST!YO! AJ HERE! It's been a while! I've been thinking about ways to utilize the Directly to You channels in a way that will help grow Re:Direct as a whole and one of the ways I landed on was to start to upload them on the podcast feed & see if it resonates with people while HOPEFULLY not cannibalizing the main bread & butter.HERE'S WHAT I'M THINKING! Every week I (mostly) I upload scripted videos to YouTube in a video essay format - these videos are definitely enhanced with the visual context but they don't necessarily NEED to be consumed in this way so they would be a good fit here.In addition to that, I stream (at least) 3 times a week on Twitch. These streams vary in format and in topic & to be fully transparent in use case. Namely, I started a retrospective series where I am playing through the main series Pokemon games on stream to see if they aged well enough to validate the notion of "Game Freak getting lazy) with the end goal of consolidating that experience and my thoughts on each game into a hybrid format of a stream cutdown, a video review, & a standard Re:Direct video essay. THESE STREAMS do not make sense to upload here because it's a mix of me talking about the game(s) and a bunch of other stuff you need the video and the chat to have context to AND EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY paid members get access to that sort of ancillary content for main channel videos. These streams don't fit here. HOWEVER there are streams that I do and that I plan to do that are MUCH more podcast-like. Tier Lists, Reactions, Discussions, & things of that ilk will happen on stream as we enter the Switch 2 era & those will show up here.LET ME KNOW THOUGHTS Either in comments of platforms that have them, or on socials, or in the RD Discord. All of which will be link in the shownotes for THIS video/audio log thing below. As far as that is concerned, I'm just gonna copy and paste the description lol.Support Re:Direct through our Memberships &/or Merch!

Nintendo GameCube. God helg! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

It's another patron request, sans Billy, as we take on Baldur's Gate : Dark Alliance for the PS2! It was also released on the XBox, GameCube, and even the GBA, but we both played it on the PS2 for this episode. This is a Diablo-style game, but based in the world of Dungeons and Dragons, and has a far more action-arcade style than the previous Baldur's Gate games had -- but is that good or bad? Unlike some of the games I've recently played for The Last Call, Dauntless had a good run, launching in beta in May 2018 and lasting until May 2025. That's seven good years. Well, as someone who didn't regularly play it, I can't say they were good years with any kind of authority, but as someone who played it near launch and near death, it was a fine time. Ultimately, I think it never found a way to get out from under Monster Hunter's shadow, so it was only a matter of time until it died. To all the players who will miss it now that it's gone, I hope you're able to remember all the good times you had as you try a find a new game to play with your lads.

This was a long time coming. I've talked about wanting to play The Last of Us Part II for years now, but the mood was never quite right. After luckily stumbling into a 30th Anniversary PlayStation 5 Pro, I said The Last of Us Part II would be the game to break my new console's cherry. Fast-forward six months later and that time has finally come (insert eyebrow raising here). This episode covers a little over half of the game's story and this shouldn't need to be said, but expect heavy spoilers. With all that out of the way, give this episode a listen to see if I think The Last of Us Part II is a significant improvement over its predecessor, or just more of the same.

John and Ryan are back with a Game Deflators Podcast episode breaking down the latest gaming and tech shake-ups. First up, they tackle Nintendo's pricing strategy for the Switch 2—could tariffs and rising production costs lead to a price hike in the future? Next, they explore Apple's latest courtroom maneuver in its ongoing Epic Games legal battle, as the tech giant seeks to pause a ruling that could reshape the App Store landscape. How will this impact developers, mobile gaming, and Apple's grip on its ecosystem? Finally, the duo dives into a review of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, the cult classic GameCube RPG that dared to shake up the franchise with Shadow Pokémon, dark twists, and a compelling villain.
