My guest today is an Emmy-nominated writer, sketch comedian, voice actor and performer. As a teenager she studied improv comedy at the famous ImprovOlympic studio in her home city of Chicago, training that prepared her for when she later starred on Whose Line Is It Anyway and the sketch comedy show Key and Peele. She has worked on the writing staff of Saturday Night Live, The Twilight Zone and, most recently, the sixth season of Rick & Morty. Throughout her career she has also written and talked about video games, not least in her current role as one of the hosts of the popular games-related podcast, Get Played. “Comedy and video-games are the same thing: fantasies within set rules,” she once said. “I love both of them, equally. When I can marry the two in some future project, I'll be complete.” Thank you for listening to My Perfect Console. Heather also talks about how she started doing live comedy when she was 14, why she no longer believes her interests and hobbies are totally in her control, and why her podcast — formerly known as How Did This Get Played? — moved away from "bad" video games. Then, Heather and Gavin are joined by Michael Sykes, sports reporter for USA Today and writer of the independent newsletter The Kicks You Wear. Michael talks about how sneakers helped him break into writing about sports, how the broader culture around sneaker culture went mainstream, and how to preserve your kicks for as long as possible. Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner, your every-other-weekly host for this first episode of Succotash produced in this still fairly new year of 2022. It's Episode 288 and, in case you missed last week's Epi287 hosted by show creator Marc Hershon, you might be interested to know that it featured clips from the soundcasts Legal Geeks, Wiz World Live, Muriel's Murders, and Dear Earth, I'm Really Sorry. If you were interested and, in fact, still are interested in that episode you can find it at all of soundcasting's major distribution points: Spotify, Apple and Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Soundcloud, Audible, YouTube and, of course, on our very own homesite SuccotashShow.com But this is a different installment, and I've got different content for you. I've got a trio of clips from the soundcasts Resting Bitch with Ali Macofsky, Hollywood Handbook, and Dead Eyes. I'll be including an advertisement from our fictional - but extremely well-represented throughout what will be 11 years this April - sponsor, Henderson's Pants and their new Pedestrian Pants. Real potential sponsors, please take note: We are still on the lookout for an actual paying sponsor who likes what we do here at Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundscast, enough to invest in us… Anyway, Happy 2022 to you…let's get to the clips. CLIPS Resting Bitch with Ali Macofsky This soundcast from comedian Ali Macofsky, Resting Bitch, is a weekly diary with Ali catching you up on what happened during the preceding week. The featured clip is from the episode "Cursed Christmas", which dropped on December 29th of this past year, and is from very early in the show where Ali gives us updates about how her life has been going to help set the mood for the episode. Hollywood Handbook Hollywood Handbook is an insider's guide to achieving your showbiz dreams from two A-List it-boys who are living theirs - namely, Sean Clements & Hayes Davenport - who provide an exclusive VIP backstage pass into Tinseltown politics, answer questions from unsuccessful listeners, and bring in famous guests to discuss their craft and how they became what they are: famous. This clip from a couple weeks back, January 4th, 2022, entitled "Get Played, Our Video Game Friends", the boys welcoming back Nick Wiger, Heather Anne Campbell, and Matt Apodaca from the soundcast Get Played (formerly known as "How Did This Get Played" re-branded for the forseeable future) to make a new video game. This clip is from the beginning of the introduction of the three guests…to set the mood for the episode… Dead Eyes Actor/comedian Connor Ratliff (The Chris Gethard Show, UCB, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) embarks upon a quest to solve a very stupid mystery that has haunted him for two decades: Why Tom Hanks fired him from a small role in the 2001 HBO mini-series, Band Of Brothers. I've clipped a chunk from the January 6th, 2022 episode, entitled "Band of Others", where Connor talks with Zach Braff, Adam Scott, and David Krumholtz, about how they all auditioned for Band of Brothers and were not cast. The clip features part of the interview with Adam Scott, which comes quite late in the soundcast, but I've chosen to drop us in right at the beginning of the segment because…I felt like it. And that's my first show of 2022. I should have another one for you in a couple of weeks. Next week, Marc Hershon will be your host for Epi289 and he might have clips for you, he might have a chat episode for you…or he might bring you something entirely new…I cannot predict beyond that. I do hope that you found something enjoyable amongst the audible offerings I included with this episode. Listening to as many soundcasts as I do and (whew) have throughout the years has led to having quite a few interesting aural experiences. Maybe you had one or two of those during this show…perhaps you will find some in the archive…there's plenty to be had. I even already know one I am including in a future episode AND I know one that I will definitely be listening to in search of a second clip. It's still a fluid situation though, so who knows what will happen the next time I bring you a show? Nobody,…not even me really. So, until then, be decent to each other, go to www.tysonsaner.com to find additional content I have created for theoretical public consumption, tune in next week, and if you'd like to share us with others we'd really appreciate it. It's what we mean when we ask you to please pass the Succotash. — Tyson Saner

Rebecca Drysdale has not only been one of the best all around comedy folks that we know with writing on Key & Peele and having the longest running UCB Cagematch record with Hebecky Drysbell (partnered with Heather Anne Campbell), but is the founder of the magical DIY-as-can-be comedy venue The Clubhouse, which has thankfully survived to this side of the pandemic (and will need your help to continue to survive on this Kickstarter). She joins in with Jake Kroeger and TCB Field Report this week to talk how doing punch up for superheroes was her salvation after having one of the Tonight Show's shortest stints of being a head writer and getting into the nitty gritty philosophy of doing comedy as a career. It's the sort of beautiful conversation where time just faded away. Also "hot" takes on Lorne Michaels potentially retiring from SNL, Emmy rule changes for comedy and drama, and more. (In case you missed Epi223, it dropped a week ago and was hosted by our other host, Marc Hershon. In that episode he featured clips from a quartet of comedy soundcasts where the hosts talk about movies, specifically How Did This Get Made?, Dad’s Movie Night, The Flop House, and "Who Shot Ya?. You can get it from our homesite - SuccotashShow.com - or Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotifu, Stitcher, or anywhere fine (and not so fine) soundcasts are to be found.) But this is show 224 and I've got clips from Rough Giraffe, Still Loading, and The Dark Weeb. I've also got a reading from our 100% fake sponsor with the 100% real website, TrumPoetry.com, as well as a spot from Henderson's Pants, our O.G. fake sponsor, with a classic commercial for Henderson's Passive Aggressive Pantaloons. By the way, this episode represents a personal milestone as it is the 100th episode that I gathered clips for in one capacity or another since April of 2013, Epi 57 "Boozin' with Bill (Again). Of course this was after the show debuted waaaaaay back in March of 2011 as Succotash, The Comedy Podcast Podcast with full-time host and show creator, the aformentioned Marc Hershon. I'd like to take this little bit here to thank him again for taking me on as an associate producer now almost a decade ago. I appreciate all the positive feedback and acceptance I have recieved over the years. I'm not great at expressing myself. So I will just repeat, Thank You! CLIPS Rough Giraffe Join hosts Mum and Stacey for a comedy trivia podcast full of weird news, unusual facts, and a wonky cat! Our featured clip is from an episode from this past August, and to celebrate Kipper's 15th birthday, Mum and Stacey are talking all about …birthdays! Still LoadingThis show is focused around video games, video game culture and video game history. The clip we've snipped is from August 23, 2020, and is about NINJAS! For the Summer of PS2, this 'sode focuses on Shinobi by Sega. Kade Call from the Gaming Memories podcast joins Josh Covel to talk about the first 3D entry in the classic Sega series. They talk all about the game and even find time to reminisce on the 3 ninjas movies. (I chose this clip because I was a fan of the arcade game "Shinobi" back when I was significantly younger and, although I do not remember playing "Shinobi" for the PS2, I do appreciate the enthusiasm with which the conversation was had…also, NINJAS! The Dark WeebComedians and weeb-adjacent homies Cody Ziglar & Brodie Reed kick back each week and cover a favorite nerdy pop-culture interest; anime, manga, video games, and everything in between. This week Zig & Brodie are joined by apex nerd, writer & comedian Heather Anne Campbell, and super fan Alexis Qusarano to their love for the mind-bending anime classic, Neon Genesis Evangelion! (I chose this clip because although I have not experienced the subject matter firsthand, I have seen many of the classics such as "Akira", "Fist of the North Star", "Wicked City", "Ghost in the Shell", "Ninja Scroll" and "Princess Mononoke", just to name a few and I AM a fan of Anime in general so… I get the enthusiasm… also, I've been meaning to see "Neon Genesis Evangelion" one of these days…) Yes again, it's another end, my friends. I hope we entertained. I have been listening to soundcasts more and more lately because that's what needs to be done for this sort of show. I'd say that I listen to less soundcasts than I used to but I'm not really sure about that. It's not significantly less… and I only bring it up because I was thinking about how I find shows to listen to and feature on Succotash Shut-In and there are a fair few that I heard of because I'm listening to soundcasts and I hear them mentioned on those soundcasts ,or being advertised somewhere during whatever I happen to be listening to at the time. I also find shows on Twitter. I'm at @revt23 personally and the show is @SuccotashShow in case you happen to be on there… why not say "hi"? We appreciate it when you tell others about us as well…we try to make ourselves easy to find, easy to digest. Thank you for eating us. Thank you for listening. Wear a mask to protect others AND yourself because you may be fine and get thru COVID-19 unscathed but not everyone does. You could spread it to someone who dies from it. That may not legally be murder…but it's starting to feel more and more like it should be at the very least thought of as such if not enforced in the same way. That's just how I feel because I care about you. So, remember to get out and VOTE and remember to Please…Pass The Succotash. — Tyson Saner

Heather Anne Campbell (How Did This Get Played?, The Twilight Zone) joins Mark and Jeremy in finding out that this episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! is not at all a parody of Planet of the Apes, but is, in fact, a Tarzan thing. It's weird and dumb and Mario is way too hairy for anyone's comfort. In the live-action segment, uh, some guy tells Mario that if he is super nice to Luigi for a day he will give him a ring with a chipmunk on it because they're all in a chipmunk group. Like the Boy Scouts, but with Chipmunks, and possibly sex.

Hey, hello, and howdy, podcastoeńos. This week we are joined by Heather Anne Campbell. She’s a writer and performer you may know from Whose Line is It Anyway, writing on the new Twilight Zone, her years with LA sketch show The Midnight Show or even her video game podcast How Did This Get Played. But it is her love for Liam Gallagher that’s brought her to us. We talk how the writers room for the Twilight Zone is different than other writers rooms, her pre-legal audition for Whose Line, some Oasis talk, then get really heavy with something about capitalism killing us. Then its all the Neùs thats fit to Music, where we talk tiki’s tok, connect Liam Gallagher to Jeff Epstein, explain why Eminim got a Secret Service visit and then there’s just this note that reads “Tori Anus”. So. Watch out for that. Finally we get a recap of the Liam Gallagher show that both Heather and Jonah attended. Was there drama? Listen and find out! Comedy writer and podcast co-host Heather Anne Campbell (The Twilight Zone, How Did This Get Played?) joins Dara and Yas this week to talk about the privilege of growing up with money. The group shares experiences from both sides of the wealth privilege spectrum—from driving a car purchased for $1, to “failing up” by being sent to private school as punishment—and how those experiences shaped how they see themselves today. Though the stats on how your family’s wealth (or lack thereof) affects your prospects as an adult get pretty grim, the ladies end up thinking you don’t have to be discouraged, and offer some tips on how to own your story so that it inspires yourself and others. We also hear about Yas’s grandmother’s “candy boobs,” put out a plea for everyone to re-watch the movie Clue, and learn that both co-hosts have purchased special tools for cutting their own hair. Comedy Girl Crush Podcast Episode 3: Heather Anne CampbellEpisode 3 is up! I just adore Heather Anne Campbell, and I'm so honored she came on the podcast.Heather is a powerhouse of experience. She's learned from nearly every major school of improv/sketch comedy. We're talking Groundlings, UCB, iO... she's been a member of Boom Chicago, Groundlings Sunday Company, and was in Del Close's last group as a director, Spoo. And that's just improv. Heather has a full and illustrious writing career. She wrote on SNL, on Incredible Crew (coming soon), and she's currently writing for Fox' Friend's Night ADHD.What sold me on Heather is her involvement in The Midnight Show. I remember the first time I saw her in the show... she blew me away with her talent and commitment. I recently had the opportunity to take a sketch/improv class Heather was teaching as part of the Miles Stroth Workshop. The big takeaway from Heather is to be fearless and to GO FOR IT. Whatever you're doing, just go for it.So, give the 'cast a listen. I guarantee you'll feel inspired and crush just as hard as I do.PS- Last week Heather and Miles broke the record for UCB's Cagematch. For 45 weeks, they slayed the other teams competing for improv glory.Hosted by Nicky UrbanTech Produced by Leann Bowen
Jordan Morris ("Jordan, Jesse, Go!", "Bubble") joins Nick and Heather on the very first How Did This Get Played to discuss the 2006 reboot of Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic 06. Men are pigs, am I right? This time around, Craig examines his manhood (not as sexy as it sounds) in relation to the rampant toxic masculinity on display in the new Twilight Zone episode “Not All Men.” Along the way he tries to atone for horn-dogging on writer Heather Anne Campbell, valiantly chides his fellow dudes who refuse to join him on the Woke Train, and manages to debut a brand new jingle in the process. “Neither Here nor There (‘Really? What blends true crime, paranormal activity, the Great Depression, adultery, murder, Hollywood glamour, and unsolvable mystical mysteries? What’s that you say? You already read the episode title and you know we’re talking about the Cecil Hotel? That was smart. The Cecil Hotel was built in 1924 in downtown Los Angeles and it quickly got a reputation for being spooky as all hell. The building has been home to an outrageous number of suicides, murders, and just plain messed up goings on...
