Scripture: Genesis 1:26-31 Key Takeaways: + God made us male and female to bear his image -       Matthew 19:3-6 + Our bodies are a good gift from God and tell us who we are “This is hugely important. If the body is merely a vehicle or a costume for the real you, then it is the equivalent of property. But we know this can't really be the case. However much we might privilege the mind or soul over the body as the ‘real' us, we know deep down that the body is an essential part of who we truly are. When people hurt your body, you know that they have not just damaged some of your property; they have violated you. What you do to someone's body, you do to a person… We cannot escape our embodied-ness. Alastair Roberts sums it up neatly: ‘The body isn't just something that clothes the self but is itself the self.” – Sam Allberry. What God has to say about our Bodies. + Some people feel an incongruence between their biological sex and their internal sense of self “In many Western countries, we've seen a massive spike in teenagers questioning their gender. For instance, the Tavistock Centre in London, the main gender clinic in the United Kingdom, treated 51 (34 males, 17 females) children and teenagers in 2009 who had gender dysphoria or were identifying as trans*. In 2016, the same clinic saw 1,766 (557 males, 1,209 females) children and teenagers, and in 2019 it saw 2,364 (624 males, 1,740 females). That's more than 5000% increase among females in 10 years. Researchers have documented similar upsurges, among biological females in particular, in many Western countries: Sweden, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States.” – Preston Sprinkle. Embodied: Transgender Identities, the Church, and What the Bible Has to Say. + Our hope is in transformation not transition “Christian discipleship is oriented toward living out the divine image that God created us to be. Sexed bodies are part of that image. Ontologically then, transitioning would be moving us further away from who we are, not bringing us closer to it.” – Preston Sprinkle. Embodied: Transgender Identities, the Church, and What the Bible Has to Say. -       Romans 12:1-2 -       2 Corinthians 5:17 + See people as image bearers that are to be loved, protected, and cared for + Develop convictions not just gut reactions + Parents, own and exercise your authority compassionately + Seek to be a welcoming community that listens, learns, loves, and shares the truths with compassion and patience

In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, they discuss a recent Gallup poll that found that 7.6% of Americans now identify as LGBTQ+ - a figure that has more than doubled over the last 12 years. When you dive into the generational data from this poll, it revealed that for Generation Z, 22.3% now identify as LGBTQ+ which is far beyond Millennials or any other generation. The most pressing question is what is accounting for this very sudden rise? Episode Links In Dr. White's book Meet Generation Z: Understanding and Reaching the New Post-Christian World, he noted five primary marks of this generation. One of those marks is that Gen Z are sexually fluid. This means that the rise in identifying as LGBTQ+ is not so much about a true shift in orientation, but rather an openness to all things sexual. And much of that openness is a direct result of cultural pressure that would say you must be open minded enough to explore other genders and sexual orientations. For more on understanding the cultural pressures, Dr. White suggested reading the book Embodied: Transgender Identities, the Church, and What the Bible Has to Say by Preston Sprinkle. Cultural acceptance, however, does seem to be making a shift - at least among religious groups. The PRRI recently released their “Religious Change in America” study which found that support does tend to be waning. This is likely a result of the cultural overreach that has taken place. And the church does need to speak out on this. Dr. White has delivered two series at Mecklenburg Community Church that we'd suggest you check out: Holy Matrimony and Gender. And this is not the first time we've touched on this topic on the C&C Podcast. Be sure to listen to these past episodes: CCP38: On Attending Diwali Celebrations and Gay Weddings and CCP21: On Gender. Dr. Preston Sprinkle joins Dr. Mark Turman to discuss his book Does the Bible Support Same-Sex Marriage, how to have uplifting conversations about controversial issues, the Bible's view of marriage, and common objections to the “historical” interpretation of marriage.    Show notes:    Dr. Preston Sprinkle covers his reasons for writing Does the Bible Support Same-Sex Marriage, how to have a loving, respectful conversation about tough issues, and how he became an author and speaker in this field (2:42). He talks about the need for graciousness, humility, and genuine curiosity, how Gen Xers and Boomers can easily fail at this (12:40). They speculate as to why Christians, and everyone else, seem so bad as having hard conversations (21:17). Dr. Sprinkle defends his using secular psychology and why he uses the term “historical Christian view” (24:19). They turn to discuss singleness, and why life without sex or marriage is still fulfilling in the Christian worldview (34:59). Dr. Sprinkle reflects on the foundational chapters, how to have a healthy disagreement and the foundation for the Bible's view of marriage (40:06). They hone in on two conversations: could Paul have known about sexual orientation and why some people think the evangelical view is dangerous (48:19).    NOTE: We've launched our summer campaign. Lou Phillips, Director of Church Relations for the Center for Faith, Sexuality, and Gender, joins Dr. Turman to discuss his work in Christian sexual ethics apologetics, how churches make an idol of marriage and sex, the way to reach out to LGBTQ+ people, and why the culture finds its identity in sexuality.    Show notes:    Lou Phillips starts by sharing his testimony, why he works in teaching Christian sexual ethics in an apologetic setting, and how he's been received by secular audiences (1:50). They turn to consider how marriage has become an idol in the church and how Christians seek fulfillment in marriage rather than in God (11:20). Phillips and Dr. Turman talk about why sexuality, tied together with suffering, has become the biggest obstacle for our culture coming to Christ (18:17). They dive into the issues of identity, why culture finds it in sexuality, and whether sexual sin is worse than others (29:19). Phillips goes into a complex practical question: Should Christians with homosexual attraction call themselves gay (43:40)? They close by returning to how churches need to do better at supporting single people, which is equally as fulfilling as marriage—it needs to be the crux of the entire argument for Christians (56:02).     Resources and further reading: The Center for Faith, Sexuality, & Gender “What does the Bible say about homosexuality?” Dr. Jim Denison Embodied: Transgender Identities, the Church, and What the Bible Has to Say Dr. Preston Sprinkle   About the host   Mark Turman, DMin, is the executive director of Denison Forum. What the Bible Has to Say About Your Personal Finances: Verses That Can Help One of the most essential biblical customs is lending. There are many scriptures in the Bible about lending, all of which are favorable. This essay will look at various biblical texts about lending and what they have to say about it. From the account of Joseph in Egypt to the parable of the prodigal son, they filled the Bible with stories about loans and borrowing. One of the most essential biblical customs is lending. People borrowed money for a variety of reasons, ranging from being unable to care for their families to seeking help from someone willing to lend them money. Lending was a normal practice that they expected others to engage in. It also shows how significant lending was in biblical times because it is mentioned so frequently. There are many other ways to show your love for God, such as giving up your time or assisting others, but lending is one of those things that you can do regularly with little effort. It's also one of those things that you can do for free or make no compromises. Lending is certainly a biblical practice and something that.t is expected, according to the Bible. It also says that people should do it with no additional effort or sacrifice because many other Bible practices, like fasting, praying, and giving to the needy, can be done with minimal effort. This is a means for us to show our love for God by doing something that is expected of us... --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/blogs-2-u/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/blogs-2-u/support

In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, they discuss how conversations regarding the LGBTQ+ community have evolved over the decades from a narrow focus on sexual orientation to a broader focus on gender and what it even means to be male or female. It's important to have a solid theological foundation to be able to think critically about gender's manifestations when it comes to culture. Because it's clear the ripple effects this is having are significant. Episode Links Dr. White delivered a series at Mecklenburg Community Church that would be extremely helpful to listen to as it relates to today's episode. Titled “Gender,” the three installments covered a theology of sexual identity, all things transgender and parenting and gender. And as parenting is such a key idea related to the disturbing rise in rapid onset gender dysphoria, another helpful series is “The Under Protective Parent.” There are also a number of blogs that you can read by Dr. White on this topic. “Sexual Fluidity” is a blog that examines how Generation Z, in particular, have fully embraced the idea that gender can be fluid, with a shockingly high percentage claiming they are bisexual. Two blogs - “Unreported Regret” and “About Bruce” - both take a look at the fallout that so often happens when gender reversal surgery is pursued, particularly at a young age. Dr. White also wrote a three-part blog series on gender, that you can find HERE. What the Bible Has to Say About the USA David Heeren https://amzn.to/3ykYjoL ()There can be no doubt, if you are a believer, if you have studied the Bible or have been reading the Bible for any length of time, that we are living in what the Bible refers to as “the last days.” But, what does that truly mean? Are we headed for a crisis worse than COVID? What can Christians do to prevent a total collapse? In seeking answers to these and other important questions, Bible scholar David Heeren turned to the Old Testament book of Hosea, which describes ancient Israel as a land bearing many resemblances to America today. David Heeren has been on our program a couple of times discussing end time topics over the last couple of years. His books layout clear road signs for believers to survive and thrive in these last days. David has spent the better part of the last 17-18 years studying the Bible and other references. His most recent book is https://amzn.to/3ykYjoL (“What the Bible Has to Say About the USA: The Old Testament Speaks to Americans Today”) where David takes us on a fascinating exploration into the Book of Hosea and draws striking parallels between ancient Israel and modern day America. David, it is so good to have you back on the program again! I appreciate you joining us today! For the benefit of those who may be new to the program and have not heard our prior conversations, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is David Heeren?” Why did you write this book https://amzn.to/3ykYjoL (“What the Bible Has to Say About the USA: The Old Testament Speaks to Americans Today?”)  And why the book of Hosea? Which of these issues seem to be the most prevalent right now? Are these things successive in nature? I mean, is it possible to break the pattern of succession? What would need to be accomplished to restore Biblical morality and God-ordained Constitutional liberty in the United States – and avoid these things discussed in the Book of Hosea? In your book, you mention one positive theme in Hosea. What is that and how does it relate to the Book Song of Songs? And https://amzn.to/3ykYjoL (your book), how can they receive a copy? Is it on Amazon? David this has been truly interesting. I have been, and I know many others have been as well, proclaiming the soon return of Jesus is near.  Truly near… If someone wanted to reach out to you, to ask a question or maybe do an interview like this, how can they do that? How can someone get in touch with you? I'll put links to all of this down in the show notes below. Folks, as we have been saying, Jesus is coming soon!  There is no doubt about it. You have just heard a small portion of what David Heeren has discussed in his latest book, https://amzn.to/3ykYjoL (“What the Bible Has to Say About the USA: : The Old Testament Speaks to Americans Today?”) I urge you to go down into the show notes, click the links right there and order you copy right now, today. Get this book into your hands. Get this book, read it and then get it into someone else's hands. It is that important! Amen!  In fact, order two or more copies and be that distribution point for those closest to  you! Amen! Go down into the show notes and click this links right there, right now. David, it is always a pleasure to have you on the program. I want to thank you for taking the time to come back and discuss your latest book, https://amzn.to/3ykYjoL (“What the Bible Has to Say About the USA: : The Old Testament Speaks to Americans Today.”)  I do appreciate it. https://endtimesmystery.com/ What Can Modern America Learn From Ancient Israel? Bible Scholar Explains Orlando, FL, March 21, 2022 ― Christians believe that on Good Friday, Jesus died in place of the sinful believers who put their trust in his salvation, and rose from the dead on Easter — a preview of what's to come on the Day of the Lord. The end-time prophecies in the Bible apply to all nations of the world. But do they have anything specific to say about the U.S.A.? In his book, What the Bible Has to Say About the U.S.A.: The Old Testament Speaks to Americans Today, Bible scholar and veteran Christian author David S. Heeren takes readers on a fascinating exploration into the book of Hosea, where he draws striking parallels between ancient Israel and modern America. Heeren details the cultural characteristics that the two nations share during their periods of decline, centuries after their initial settlements, namely: Money vs. Morality, Lawlessness, Humanism (the deification of humanity), Liberalism, Globalism, Life vs. Convenience, New Age (and other religions that Heeren calls “hostile to Christianity”), God's love (the book's most important chapter), Cunning Commerce, Sexual License and Environmentalism. Heeren compels readers to ponder questions such as, Are we headed for a crisis even worse than COVID? Will moral deterioration result in upheaval that could impact all levels of American society? What can Christians do to prevent a total collapse? And how should we prepare for whatever lies ahead? “He (God) no more wants to see American civilization crumble than He desired the collapse of ancient Israel,” Heeren explained. “So we should not ignore prophetic details that seem relevant to our imperiled nation. Reproduction of conditions could result in repetition of consequences.” In the book's final chapter, Heeren brings the discussion full circle, with a description of a great spiritual revival — as prophetic as some of the Bible's end-time texts that anticipate the very same thing. “Prophet Zechariah said one-third of all human beings will rise into heaven on earth's final day,” Heeren added. “According to recent estimations by evangelists Billy Graham and D. James Kennedy, the number 33 percent is way too high. That number, according to Kennedy and Graham and others, probably right now is less than 10 percent. Talk about revival!” Author David S. Heeren is an award-winning journalist and author of 18 books. A personal prayer identical to that of Isaiah (Is. 6:8) led him to change his career emphasis from sports writing to Christian writing in 2007. Since that time, he has published nine books with Christian themes, five of which deal with biblical end-time prophecy. His book, The High Sign, which identifies the most likely sign of Jesus' Second Coming, received a double-four-star (perfect) rating from the Online Book Club — the highest rating awarded by the club. Heeren was recently approved for inclusion in Who's Who. His upcoming Christian novel, Year of Our Lord, has been praised by literary critic David Dickerson as “by far the most exciting in the In His Steps series.” To learn more, please visit: www.endtimesmystery.com. We're wrapping up our series on great books for believers to read this week by looking at a tough conversation facing many people today: transgender identities. Pastor Paul and Mark are joined by Pastor Ty Waardenburg as they look together at an excellent resource for Christians who might be wrestling with how to show love in situations where the Bible's truth interacts with and may differ from many of our world's lifestyle choices. Preston Sprinkle is the author of Embodied: Transgender Identities, The Church & What the Bible Has to Say, and this title is one that reminds us to see those in the transgender community solely as people rather than statistics or issues. Here on A Fresh Take, we don't always find hard and fast answers to difficult issues. Instead, we look to express how to represent truth, grace, and Christ without being cold and judgmental to those we may not agree with. As Sprinkle says, "Outrage doesn't change the world. Pride month just wrapped up. Favorite children's shows are featuring LGBTQ content. School curricula, corporate policies, and legislation are swiftly changing. Many parents wonder how to navigate conversations about all of this with their children of all ages. Of course conversations with our kids begin with conversations with ourselves. We have to ask what we really believe, on what we base our convictions, and how to pass the truth on to our children. On this episode of All Things we talk through some foundational reminders about the character and goodness of our God, his design and mercy in creation, his trustworthiness as our Maker and Savior, and his good, beautiful, and true words, which hold out life to you and me and to our children. As culture quickly changes, our God does not. We can anchor ourselves to him and share his words of life with others. He is not anxious, nor do we need be. He is sovereign and kind and able to minister to us and through us, as well as our children, and all those we love and work with and live with. In this cultural moment it's easy to feel embarrassed, awkward, or apologetic for a Biblical sexual ethic. But the warm and hard words of Jesus have been a light in the dark forever and that's not changing now. Christian, as you hold out grace and truth, you hold out life. Speak life to your kids, to yourself, and to those in your sphere. The transgender issue is everywhere. Hardly a day goes by without some new transgender related story in the news, whether it's former men competing in women's sports, somebody being fired for daring to suggest that biology really matters, or hospitals replacing words like "mother" and "breast-feeding" with gender neutral alternatives. For all the talk of LGBT, it seems that "T" is rapidly eating up every other letter of the alphabet. This episode of Pod of the Gaps wades into this hugely contested territory and tries to shed some light. What is driving the transgender agenda in culture? What are some of the bigger questions that aren't often asked? What should Christians think of transgender — and how should we respond to those caught up in the movement with both honesty and grace, truth and love? In the United States, activist groups such as Black Lives Matter have not only spoken out against racism, but they have also taken steps to pull down statues of those associated with slavery from the past. But could it be that Darwinism, and not slavery, was the justification for racism in the last century? Is the ‘cancel’ culture helpful? And what is the solution to racism? We had some wonderful, thought-provoking questions submitted regarding trauma, LGBTQ+, having healthy conversations with our kids about acceptance and "non-labeling", body image, and boundaries.
