For this Thanksgiving season I would like to express my gratitude for my dad. My dad was a traveling salesman and the reason my mom was able to be a stay at home mom. The one skill that I am most grateful for is my work ethic. I learned to work along side my dad as a kid growing up. The example my dad set helped engrain in my the need and desire to work. I spent a lot of my childhood working on our house, cleaning cars, or traveling across the country for my dad's job.Support the show

The Third Growth Option with Benno Duenkelsbuehler and Guests
Two entrepreneurs - Gary Levine, founder/CEO of Roaring Brook Art Licensing Company, and Benno, Chief Sherpa/CEO of (re)ALIGN Expansion Sherpas - are talking about how “superpowers” (both personal and a team's or business') are guiding their businesses, about the power of quiet confidence, about not selling but just showing up. 2:23 - “When I think of a person's superpowers…what makes us fire on all eight cylinders?” 3:22 - “For me, that was (when) I showed up prepared, and I remained curious…(not when) I came prepared and I just wanted to preach about what I prepared. That doesn't usually go so well.” 4:14 - “What are the intentions and the reasons for why I'm so prepared?” 6:50 - “No question it takes a village…we're all as a team playing off each other's superpowers.” 7:34 - “There comes a quiet confidence from you, when you put it out there, you're not really selling your stuff… I don't think selling works today anymore…it's just a matter of putting out there, what you believe in, to the right people. And then the magic happens.” 8:43 - “A tangible is a product, but the intangible is that confidence, that's the superpower… putting it into the right context, at the right time, with the right customer.” 13:33 - talking about inhibitors “as much as those are distractions…there are also positive influences from our past experience and even going back to our childhood, so it's a matter of sorting them out…what are the things that are holding us back?” 15:15 - “I grew up in a large family…and that created maybe an obsession to avoid being dismissed…that's probably part of the reason I over-prepare.” 16:06 - “Before I was really conscious that that's what I'm doing… I would show up prepared and preach…preparing is good, but don't preach… show up prepared and stay curious, because then you can really engage.” 17:10 - “The business word for superpowers is Value Proposition.” 21:10 - “There's give and take in making any relationship work, whether it's a marriage, or parent/child, or client-, colleague relationships.” 22:40 - “A big influence in the recent pandemic, there was a shift… about selling…today it's not about Willy Loman, Traveling Salesman going from town to town… because people have made up 50% or 80% of their buying decision before they ever meet Gary Levine or Benno Duenkelsbuehler…they check (us) out online.” 23:37 - “It's not about selling, it's about showing up and…to be prepared and being who we are and having that quiet confidence…because everybody else is taken - be who you are.” You can reach Gary Levine one-on-one by email GLevine@RoaringBrookArt.com

Quellen:M. The remaining players set aside the figures they have of which they have the most of a certain type. The player with the most remaining figures wins. We are back with another matchup that will divide the show's fandom. This episode we see "Office Olympics" (S2:E3) where Jim creates the 1st annual and iconic office olympic games, while Michael finalizes the deal on his condo. It's challenger is "Traveling Salesman" (S3:E12) in which Andy convinces Michael to become suspicious of Dwight, after going up to corporate for Angela. This episode is full of laughs, blood and tears (not in that order), leading to a debate to see which one's on top!
Special Guest Matt Quick joins us to talk about being a traveling salesman.
We start our season off with something that often pops up in technical interviews: the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP). In this problem, a salesperson has to travel to every single city in an area, visiting each city only once. Additionally, they need to end up in the same city where they starts their journey from. Find out how to make our salesperson do this in the most efficient way possible! Based on Vaidehi Joshi's blog post, "The Trials And Tribulations Of The Traveling Salesman".
James Acker, a distinguished teaching professor at the School of Criminal Justice, and Brian Keough, head of the M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections & Archives, are among the founders of the University’s National Death Penalty Archive (NDPA).The NDPA contains a repository of publicly-accessible materials that track the history of capital punishment in the United States.Acker and Keough join the series to share about the digitization efforts of a collection by M. Watt Espy, a researcher who spent three decades of his life gathering and indexing documentation of legal executions for what would become the nation’s largest database on capital punishment. The M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections & Archives has since added 6,000 executions to the list through the verification process of Espy’s work.Espy began the project in the 1970s as a traveling salesman pedaling encyclopedias and cemetery plots, among other goods. While the scholar was originally an advocate for capital punishment, he became an avid opponent following growing concerns about racial prejudice in the legal system.During a pre-Internet era, Espy documented over 15,000 executions conducted between 1608 and 2002.Espy died in 2009 at the age of 76.The University at Albany Libraries was responsible for salvaging the “Espy File” from Espy’s home in Headland, A.L. following his passing and moving the database to its current home at the M.E. Guest: Steven Benson, CEO of Badger Badger’s tag line is “automating busy work for outside sales reps to save ten hours a week.” Badger is #1-selling sales app in the Apple App store. The app optimizes and plans sales routes. Prior to founding Badger, Steven was a sales manager for Google and IBM. He’s also a contributor to The Huffington Post, and has written over 180 LinkedIn posts on sales, company management, and running a startup. Show Notes & Topics: An explanation of Badger and what their app does. Description of the Traveling Salesman Problem One of the most important hats that founders wear in business is sales. Sales as a trade or craft Three basic tips for how a founder should think about outside sales, instead of solely relying on inside sales, including price and deal size thresholds Ways to create a valuable reason for someone to want to meet you Using referrals to gain meetings. Leveraging LinkedIn to prospect and set meetings. Tips on how to move deals forward faster Building and managing a multi-day meeting itinerary and using “anchor meetings” The purpose and outcomes of a face-to-face meetings vs. phone meetings The value of cold calling; where and when cold calling is most appropriate Other key questions for company founders to ask when building their sales process: What is your go-to market strategy? Should you be making cold calls over the phone? Should you be selling with partners? Should you be selling with an inside sales team? Should you be selling with an outside sales team? Treating sales as an experiment. Field sales is underutilized right now. If you’re not doing field sales at all, then you could be missing out a huge opportunity to generate some leads. Presentation Materials available here: https://defcon.org/images/defcon-22/dc-22-presentations/Zacharis-Tsagkarakis/DEFCON-22-Alex Zacharis-Nikolaos-Tsagkarakis-PoS-Attacking-the-Traveling-Salesman.pdf PoS Attacking the Traveling Salesman Alex Zacharis Tsagkarakis Nikolaos CENSUS Our work presents a re-vamped Point-of-Sales (POS) attack targeting the transportation sector and focusing mainly on the international aviation industry. Through a real-life attack and while exposing serious security issues at an International Airport, we are re-introducing the popular PoS attack, focusing on the compromise of sensitive personal data such as travelers' identities and trip information. We will disclose all the technical details and proof-of-concepts of the attack we have performed on a real, widely used system: the WiFi time purchase kiosks located inside an International Airport. We will analyze the repercussions of the attack, focusing on the exposure of sensitive traveler information, along with the ability to perform privileged actions such as cashing out money from the kiosks. Our experience with contacting the airport's security will also be discussed. Utilizing this attack, our team seized the opportunity to recreate the environment on which it took place in order to test a proof-of-concept malware targeting such PoS infrastucture. A step by step guide of the way our malware, named the "Travelers' Spy", exploits the available kiosk modules will be provided. The web camera and the barcode scanner are some of the modules exploited in a combination with memory scrapping to create a unique targeted malware that attacks travelers. Furthermore, a unique command channel for our malware will be introduced through specially crafted Aztec Code images posing as e-tickets. We will also release a newly developed barcode cloning and fuzzing mobile app for Android devices (the "Aztec Revenge" tool). The tool implements a number of attacks, from simply cloning stolen e-tickets to issuing commands to our malware. "Aztec Revenge" can also be used by security researchers and penetration testers in order to fuzz barcode scanners and the web services behind them to expose security bugs. Finally, a combined attack using both the "Travelers' Spy" malware and the "Aztec Revenge" tool will be presented. Alexandros Zaharis (BSc, MSc) currently works as a Security Officer for an NREN, dealing daily with security compliance, development & maintenance. He also holds a position as a CERT representative in the Greek National Academic & Research Security Incident Response Team, working on attack trends, penetration testing, corporate forensics, malware analysis, incident handling / response, etc. He has published a number of research papers on anti-forensics, steganalysis and user authentication architectures. In collaboration with the CENSUS Penetration team, Alex has exposed a number of critical vulnerabilities on widely used enterprise software platforms. Tsagkarakis Nikolaos is the leader of the Census - http://www.census-labs.com - security testing services, focused on network and system attacks. Additionally there is a passion on using physical means to overcome security measures and gain access to each targeted asset. Specialized on Windows Internals Exploitation, Fuzzing on IR devices + other means, and network penetration testing.
