The film continues the story of Ethan Hunt, focusing on the ongoing saga of the Impossible Mission Force's efforts to prevent global disaster.
This week, we've assembled our own Impossible Mission Force to discuss the latest (and potentially last?) movie in the Mission: Impossible series, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - THE FINAL RECKONING! Music Supervisor Kyle Cullen and Producer Collin join the Mikes to talk everything Ethan Hunt, the spectacular action setpieces, and some of the questionable story decisions. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to listen!
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is a 2025 American action spy film directed by Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay he co-wrote with Erik Jendresen. The sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023), it is the eighth and final installment in the Mission: Impossible film series. It stars Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, alongside an ensemble cast including Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett. In the film, Hunt and his Impossible Mission Force team unite to prevent the Entity, a rogue AI, from unleashing global destruction against humanity. In January 2019, Cruise announced that the seventh and eighth Mission: Impossible films would be shot back-to-back with McQuarrie co-writing and directing both films. Plans for the eighth film later changed in February 2021. Returning and new cast members were announced soon after, including Lorne Balfe, who composed the score for two other films in the series: Balfe was later replaced by Max Aruj and Alfie Godfrey. Principal photography began in March 2022 but was halted in July 2023 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Production resumed in March 2024 and concluded that November, with filming locations including England, Malta, South Africa and Norway. The film, originally titled Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, dropped its subtitle in October 2023, and the new subtitle was announced in November 2024. With an estimated budget of $300–400 million, it is one of the most expensive films ever made. The Final Reckoning had its world premiere in Tokyo on May 5, 2025, was screened out of competition at the 78th Cannes Film Festival on May 14, and was theatrically released in the United States on May 23, by Paramount Pictures. The film received positive reviews from critics and has grossed $222.3 million worldwide, becoming the eighth highest-grossing film of 2025, in addition to having the largest opening weekend in the franchise.

“De Palma knows, the old saying goes” Our name is Possible, Mission: Impossible, license to watch the film Mission: Impossible directed by cinematic genius Brian De Palma (1996). And that my friends is our impossible mission (impossible). And we did it. An elite IMF team led by Jim Phelps (Jon Voight) has come a serious cropper trying to secure a non-official cover (NOC) list, which could potentially reveal the entire Impossible Mission Force's workforce, locations, and names. The team are double-crossed in Prague eliminating Sarah (Kristin Scott Thomas), Jack (Emilio Estevez) et al leaving just Ethan (Tom Cruise) and Claire (Emmanuelle Beart) standing. Disavowed and on the run, can they swipe the real NOC list and discover the mole? Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ohws8y572KE ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** It's Phelps and his femme fatale wife Claire, darn it all! A cat and mouse game ensues, spanning from the CIA's headquarters in Langley, to the Channel Tunnel rail line that runs beneath the English Channel. Time is not on Ethan's side as the IMF, led by Kittridge (Henry Czerny), hunt Hunt down as he engages in a potentially deadly game of brinkmanship in attempting to forge the sale of the NOC list to arms dealer Max (Vanessa Redgrave) in order to draw out the Lando of the team. Ethan Hunt and his Impossible Mission Force have taken on arms dealers, rogue agents, rabbit's feet, nuclear bombs, terrorists, and the Syndicate, but nothing had prepared them for their most recent obstacle: a global pandemic that shut down filmmaking. However, despite all the delays, Tom Cruise managed to pull together his team for a seventh time to make the first part of a two-part story. Joel was disavowed from the movie screening of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, so Kent and Zack are going to give their reviews, but not before letting Joel guess the plot summary. And don't worry, we'll give you a warning before we download & decrypt all the spoilers. Press play to feel like Pierce Brosnan's James Bond.

The Impossible Mission Force may get the job done with all those elaborate masks, but my guy James Bond knows all you really need for a workable disguise is a good fake nipple smack in the middle of your chest. This week, we're celebrating the 25th anniversary of the movie reboot of the classic television series Mission: Impossible. Starring Tom Cruise as secret agent Ethan Hunt of the Impossible Mission Force, this Brian De Palma-directed film scored the third-biggest box office haul of 1996. Cruise returned as Hunt for five more films, with two more on the way, making him the longest-running actor to play a big screen superspy - more than Bond, more than Bourne. In 'Mission Impossible of Project Teams', I share correlations with the movie of the same name and the journey project teams take together.
Do you remember Mission Impossible? Beginning in 1966, this popular TV series told the story of a small group of undercover government agents. Each week, the group is given an "impossible" mission by an unseen government official. The jobs usually involve incredibly dangerous covert operations against crime lords or dictators. The tension was palpable, and there was always a little bit of doubt that the team would succeed right up to the end. The series spawned several modern movies which contain lots of superhuman special effects and stunt work. In the end, the Impossible Mission Force got the job done, no matter the cost. Take away the stuntmen and special effects, and there are times when studying the Bible can feel like an impossible mission. Some passages of Scripture contain ideas which seem far beyond our ability to comprehend; so much so, in fact, that we often don't even try. However, one of the advantages of preaching through entire books of the Bible is the inability to skip difficult or controversial passages. All Scripture is God-breathed, even the passages that cause us significant difficulty. Accomplishing "impossible" missions through the power of the Holy Spirit is vital for our growth as believers. We are called to do the hard work of understanding that which is tough to understand. We get to do that hard work this week. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to join us as we continue in our series on First Corinthians, A Better Way. We'll read the first half of chapter 11, where the Apostle Paul addresses a problem that the Corinthian church was facing: the role of women in church life and culture. Corinth was the home of a wide-ranging set of sexual beliefs. When the Gospel took root in the city, those who were transformed by Jesus struggled with how to live holy lives, especially in the area of sexuality and gender. It appears that some women in the church were using their new-found freedom in Christ to begin to blur the lines between genders. Paul's response is to clarify appropriate and holy behavior for both men and women. By presenting both theological and practical arguments, he encourages the church to accept gender distinctions and pursue Godly relationships. In our modern context, this conversation provokes some emotional responses. There is real tension between this Biblical teaching and our society's post-Christian philosophy of life. Our goal this week will be to face these tensions head-on, seeking to place ourselves under God's authority in these areas. We'll do our best to unpack the historical context, and Lord willing, we'll arrive at some principles that we can put into practice today.

This week marks a Christmas miracle! The first part of our Mission Impossible Saga retrospective. While there is always a lot to say about this great series of films, we try to break down some of our favorite aspects of them. So, for the first episode we take a look at the first three films in the series. The first film started the series with a new character, Tom Cruises Ethan Hunt, who then becomes the central figure in these action films and the de facto leader of the IMF, or Impossible Mission Force way back in 1996. The first three films take Ethan Hunt from Prague, to London, Spain, Australia, America, Italy, and finally Shanghai, China to stop threats from Jon Voight as Jim Phelps, Dougray Scott as Sean Ambrose, and Philip Seymour Hoffman as Owen Davian. And, the guys dont forget about the TV series. Lalo Schifrins incredible contribution to the television show in 1966 still stands as a strong influence on each composer who takes up a film in the series. Some of Schifrins best themes are talked about here, as well as the influence on some of the suspense cues. While the first and third are excellent action films (and one of De Palmas best, most commercial efforts for the first), the second seems to be a casualty of its time, directed by the great John Woo. For anyone wondering which films score they should start with, or even if you have questions about how they were made, take a listen. This was a difficult mission, but we wanted to go out of the year with a bang! And what better way than with the biggest action star in the world, Tom Cruise. So, Merry Christmas with the first part of the saga, and come back in the new year for the second part! You have five seconds before this message self-destructs...

In this episode, Matt and Anne discuss the Mission: Impossible movies ahead of the release of the latest film in the series. Matt deals with an impossible mission of his own--combining two USB microphones (sorry about the audio, which isn't great this episode). Expect tangents about Henry Cavill's facial hair, Matt's suggested title for Mission: Impossible II, and not one but two mentions of The Tudors for some reason. Oh, they'll also rank the M:I movies and Ethan Hunt's hairstyles. It's bedlam.
