Familie Caduff haust in einer Notbaracke in Zürich. Vater Balz Caduff trinkt ab und zu ein Glas zu viel. Immer wieder gibt es Streit mit der Nachbarsfamilie, den Rüdisühlis. Davon bekommt auch die Verwaltung Wind und rügt Caduff – zum wiederholten Male. Wer das Hörspiel am Radio hören will: Freitag, 28.11.2025, 20.00 Uhr, Radio SRF 1 «Es Dach überem Chopf» ist vor allem als Kinofilm von 1962 in Erinnerung geblieben. Dabei wurde das Skript von Kurt Früh und Jean-Pierre Gerwig schon ein Jahr zuvor als Hörspiel produziert – und dieses braucht den Vergleich mit der grossen Leinwand keinesfalls zu scheuen. Denn das Hörspiel hat eine durch und durch moderne Erzählweise: Kurt Früh und Moderator Jean-Pierre Gerwig führen höchstpersönlich durch das Stück. Immer wieder greifen die beiden ins Geschehen ein, sprechen ihre Figuren direkt an, reagieren und kommentieren. Und zwar auf höchst vergnügliche Art. Kurt Früh (1915–1979) gilt als vielleicht grösster Schweizer Filmemacher des 20. Jahrhunderts. Doch Früh hat auch eine eigene Geschichte mit dem Hörspiel. Zum einen ist seine Karriere als Filmregisseur erst mit der Verfilmung zweier Hörspiele so richtig in Schwung gekommen: «Polizischt Wäckerli» (1955) und «Oberstadtgass» (1956) von Schaggi Streuli. Diese Produktionen waren schon am Radio echte Gassenhauer und wurden dann auch als Filme grosse Erfolge.
