This Day in Legal History: Lincoln Signs the Second Confiscation ActOn July 17, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Second Confiscation Act into law, marking a significant legal development during the Civil War. This act allowed for the seizure of property owned by individuals engaged in rebellion against the Union. Unlike previous measures, it did not require due process or provide an opportunity for the accused to defend themselves. The act targeted Confederate supporters, intending to weaken the rebellion by stripping resources from those aiding the Confederate cause. The legislation also declared that enslaved people who escaped from rebel owners or were captured by Union forces would be considered free. This move was a precursor to the Emancipation Proclamation and signaled a shift in Union policy towards a more aggressive stance against slavery. The Second Confiscation Act was controversial, as it raised significant legal and constitutional questions regarding property rights and due process. Critics argued it overstepped executive powers and violated the Fifth Amendment.Despite these concerns, the act was a critical step in undermining the Confederate war effort and advancing the Union's moral and strategic objectives. It reflected the growing commitment of the Lincoln administration to not only preserve the Union but also to end slavery. The Second Confiscation Act thus played a pivotal role in the broader legal and political landscape of the Civil War.President Joe Biden is preparing to introduce proposals for significant Supreme Court reforms, including imposing term limits on justices, who currently serve for life. This marks a notable shift for Biden, who has previously resisted such reforms despite pressure from within his party. The proposals also include an enforceable ethics code for justices and a constitutional amendment to overturn a recent Supreme Court decision granting broad immunity to presidents for official actions. However, these changes are expected to face considerable challenges in becoming law, especially with Congress unlikely to address major legislation before the upcoming election. Biden's proposals come amidst a tight race against former President Donald Trump, who leads in public opinion polls. Congressional Republicans are expected to oppose the reforms, viewing the current conservative Supreme Court as a significant political achievement. The White House has yet to consult with key lawmakers about the plans, and Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has declined to comment. Biden hinted at these proposals in a recent call with the Congressional Progressive Caucus, aiming to garner support after a poor performance in a presidential debate. The Democratic push for Supreme Court reform has grown following several controversial rulings, including the overturning of Roe v. Wade and the rejection of Biden's student loan cancellation plan. Justice Clarence Thomas has also faced scrutiny for not disclosing expensive gifts from conservative donors. The court's decision granting presidential immunity for official acts has further complicated efforts to prosecute Trump. Biden criticized this decision, arguing it contradicts the founders' intentions. In response, Trump accused Democrats of undermining the Supreme Court and interfering in the presidential election. Biden to Propose Supreme Court Reforms, Including Term LimitsBiden seriously considering proposals on Supreme Court term limits, ethics code, AP sources sayFederal prosecutors in Alaska have identified 23 criminal cases with potential conflicts of interest involving former U.S. District Judge Joshua Kindred, who resigned following sexual misconduct allegations. The 9th Circuit Judicial Council reprimanded Kindred for creating a hostile work environment and engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a law clerk. Although the clerk did not work on cases before Kindred, potential conflicts existed in other cases.Bryan Wilson, head of the U.S. Attorney's Office's criminal division, detailed the conflicts in an email to Alaska's federal public defender. These conflicts included interactions between Kindred and several attorneys, such as a senior prosecutor who sent him nude photos and another attorney who exchanged flirtatious texts. These undisclosed conflicts could lead defense lawyers to challenge convictions or sentences from cases Kindred oversaw. The U.S. Attorney's Office had taken steps to mitigate conflicts since late 2022 by notifying the district's chief judge and reassigning cases from Kindred. However, Federal Public Defender Jamie McGrady criticized the office for not disclosing the conflicts sooner and noted that the recusal of Kindred did not eliminate prejudice against defendants. Her office plans to investigate all cases involving attorneys who interacted with Kindred to ensure justice.Former Alaska judge had potential conflicts in 23 cases, prosecutors say | ReutersA federal appeals court ruled that Minnesota's law requiring individuals to be at least 21 to obtain a permit to carry a handgun in public for self-defense is unconstitutional. The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found the law violated the Second Amendment rights of 18- to 20-year-olds. U.S. Circuit Judge Duane Benton, writing for the panel, emphasized that the Second Amendment does not specify an age limit. The court upheld a previous ruling in favor of the Second Amendment Foundation, the Firearms Policy Coalition, and the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, which had challenged the law. The decision referenced the 2022 Supreme Court ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, which set a new standard for evaluating firearm regulations, stating they must align with the nation's historical tradition of firearm regulation.Judge Benton noted that Minnesota failed to show that 18- to 20-year-olds posed specific risks that justified the age restriction. Despite this, the Supreme Court had recently upheld a federal ban on gun possession for individuals under domestic violence restraining orders, indicating that certain modern firearm restrictions could be valid without historical precedent.Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison expressed disappointment with the ruling, arguing it complicates efforts to reduce shootings and enhance public safety. This decision is part of a broader trend of gun rights groups challenging age-based firearm restrictions in various states.Minnesota cannot bar adults under 21 from carrying guns, court rules | ReutersTesla has replaced its long-time law firm, Cravath, Swaine & Moore, with Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr in a California class action antitrust case. This change, noted in court records, comes as Tesla faces allegations of monopolizing the market for vehicle parts and services, which has purportedly led to consumers paying higher prices. The reason for the switch was not disclosed, and neither Tesla nor the involved law firms commented. The class action case saw a significant development in June when a judge refused to dismiss the claims against Tesla. Shortly thereafter, Wilmer attorneys made their debut appearance for Tesla, continuing to deny the plaintiffs' allegations. Tesla and Musk have a history of legal representation by both Cravath and Wilmer in various high-profile cases.Musk is also represented by Cravath in a Delaware lawsuit challenging his $56 billion pay package, a case that faced a setback in January when a judge invalidated the compensation. Despite a shareholder vote in favor of Musk's pay in June, the Delaware litigation continues, with Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan recently joining the defense team.Wilmer is defending Tesla in another antitrust lawsuit in New Orleans, where it seeks to overturn a ban on direct-to-consumer car sales. The new Wilmer team for the California case includes partners David Gringer and Ari Holtzblatt, while the departing Cravath team comprised David Marriott and Vanessa Lavely.Tesla swaps law firms in antitrust case as Cravath exits | ReutersThe questioning of former bankruptcy judge David R. Jones, who resigned after revealing a secret relationship with a partner at Texas law firm Jackson Walker, has been postponed. The US Trustee's office is investigating to recover over $13 million in fees Jones approved for Jackson Walker without disclosing the relationship. Chief Judge Eduardo V. Rodriguez of the Houston bankruptcy court is deliberating on whether the questions about Jones' recusal decisions and his relationship with the attorney violate judiciary policy.Jones, who resigned last year, had a relationship with Elizabeth Freeman, who left Jackson Walker in late 2022. The deposition, originally set for July 18, is on hold until Judge Rodriguez determines the appropriateness of the questions. Jones' attorney, Benjamin I. Finestone, argues that questions about Jones' conduct are a distraction and that the focus should be on what Jackson Walker knew about the relationship.Jackson Walker's attorney, Jason Lee Boland, asserts that understanding the timeline of Jones and Freeman's relationship is crucial for defending against the US Trustee's efforts to reclaim the fees. Judge Rodriguez emphasized the complexity of addressing questions about judges' recusal decisions, stating that such decisions should not be publicly questioned. US Trustee attorney Laura Steele argued that Jones' public statements about his recusals allow for relevant inquiries. The case, known as Professional Fee Matters Concerning the Jackson Walker Law Firm, continues as the court navigates the boundaries of questioning a judge's conduct and recusal decisions.Bankruptcy Court Likely to Pare Back Probe into Ex-Judge Romance This is a public episode. Tuesday's presser didn't go much better. Jean Pierre blamed Biden's poor debate performance on a cold and emphasized it was not the result of a neurological disorder. She went on to explain that the president immediately visited North Carolina, Georgia, New York, and New Jersey—illustrating his strength. So, was he just spreading his germs to potential voters? Despite spending a considerable amount of time attempting to claim President Biden is in perfect health, Jean Pierre was unable to provide a reasonable explanation as to why a Parkinson's doctor has visited the White House so frequently. Is the White House participating in a massive cover-up? 3:25pm- In a new piece documenting White House aides hiding President Joe Biden's diminishing health from the public, the Wall Street Journal writes of one previously undocumented incident: “German officials, aware of Biden's fatigue at night, sought to accommodate the president by planning a June 2022 event with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in the early evening. The informal event, a soiree at the Alpine resort Schloss Elmau during the Group of Seven summit, was arranged as a confidential meeting on Ukraine in a relaxed setting. Who do you call? The First Lady?” 4:05pm- In his latest opinion article for The Wall Street Journal, former Counsel to the Chairman of the Federal Election Commission Charlie Spies writes: “If [President Joe] Biden drops out before the Democratic Party formally makes him its nominee, then Federal Election Commission rules dictate that no more than $2,000 of any campaign funds that he raised may be transferred to any other candidate, including [Vice President Kamala] Harris.” You can read the full op-ed here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/biden-has-100-million-reasons-to-stay-in-election-finance-d8a2dfdf?mod=opinion_lead_pos5 4:20pm- While speaking with Sean Hannity on Fox News, presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump suggested that if Democrats remove Joe Biden at the top of their ticket it'll be Kamala Harris that takes his place. 4:30pm- Daniel Chaitlin of The Daily Wire reports: “President Joe Biden formally rejected on Monday a bill in Congress that would require individuals to show proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in elections for federal office. A policy statement from the Biden administration said it ‘strongly opposes' the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which was introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) earlier this year and is expected to get a vote in the Republican-led House as early as this week, but did not mention the prospect of a veto.” You can read the full article here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-formally-opposes-bill-requiring-voters-prove-citizenship?topStoryPosition=3 4:50pm- Who will Donald Trump pick to be his running mate? Plus, why is Matt not invited to the White House Easter Egg Roll? 5:05pm- House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and Congresswoman Veronica Escobar reiterated their support for President Joe Biden's reelection campaign when asked by the press. Notably, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal said “she's not here to give advice” to her colleagues and that discussions about Biden's ability to serve as president for another four-years should be made in “private.” 5:15pm- J.D. Tuccille of Reason.com writes that “the New York State government agreed to subsidize news media.” He continues: “With audiences declining for news reports, many very concerned people have called on governments to do something to prop up outlets failing to win enough public support to keep the lights on. That something comes in the form of money unlikely to win back an indifferent public but that stabilizes employment prospects for reporters. The result may be that journalists will cater to state officials rather than woo readers and viewers.” You can read the full article here: https://reason.com/2024/07/08/if-you-dont-trust-media-now-wait-until-its-government-funded/ 5:35pm- Former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy said that it was not uncommon for First Lady Jill Biden to attend meetings with President Joe Biden. 5:40pm- At one point during Tuesday's White House press conference, Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked: “Say the Pentagon, at some point, picks up an incoming nuke—it's 11pm. Cori Bush is still crazy. 6:15pm- While appearing on The View, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer confirmed that she would support Kamala Harris were she to become the Democrat party's presidential nominee. 6:20pm- CNN Political Director David Chalian examined polling data post-presidential debate, revealing: “Pre-debate, Donald Trump had a two-point edge in a poll...49% to 47%. That's a pretty close race. You see post-debate Donald Trump has stayed the same. He didn't grow his support with the debate, but Joe Biden took on some water. He is down to 44%. And that's a five-point lead in the poll for Donald Trump…But we are now talking about the light blue states, perhaps Minnesota, Virginia, New Mexico that are leaning Democratic.” He also explained that Trump now has a 10% advantage with independent voters.  6:35pm- First Lady Jill Biden now has her own entrance music…and it's just as terrible as you're imagining. One caller suggests it sounds like something Oompa Loompas would dance to. Hey look! White House Touts Black Women in Judicial Appointments

(AURN News) - In a White House press briefing this week, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre highlighted President Biden's success in appointing a more diverse federal judiciary, an issue of particular importance to the nation's Black community. "We've confirmed more Black women to circuit courts than all previous presidents combined," Jean-Pierre stated with evident pride. Her remarks underscored the Biden administration's efforts to build a bench that better reflects America's racial makeup after decades of underrepresentation. “One of the biggest priority of the President is nominating and confirming extraordinarily qualified men and women who are dedicated to our Constitution and who represent the diversity of America. Thanks to his hard work and our partnership with the Senate, we are at 200 judicial confirmations, which is monumental news for the rule of law and the American people,” she said. The statistics are striking - more than 60% of Biden's judicial nominees have been women, and an equal percentage have been people of color. The Biden administration also made clear their policy priorities in the nomination process. "These judges will rule on issues critical to fundamental freedoms: reproductive healthcare, the freedom to cast ballots, whether workers have the freedom to unionize, whether children have the freedom to breathe clean air and drink clean water,” Jean-Pierre said. On today's show, I open with a personal story that just happened to me today. My love and support of the US Constitution was questioned and then I was called a fraud and a con-artist. So, after putting the bit of nonsense to bed, we dive into my stack of stuff. Citizen journalist Toria Brooke released a story where she transcribes an interview with former People's Deputy of Ukraine, Andrii Derkach, where he says they have proof that Biden family member affiliates are complicit in blowing up the Nord Stream 2 pipeline and funding other terrorist activities. To remind you of what I said about the pipeline back in the fall of 2022, I play back-to-back bites of Victoria Nuland and Joe Biden, both promising to “end” the pipeline if Russia invades Ukraine. AG Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray announced this week a brand new censorship program just in time for the 2024 election cycle. Michael Cohen may have once again committed perjury on the stand in the Alvin Bragg case against Donald Trump. To add to this, I remind you what Cohen's attorney once said when he was trying to work with Cohen on a plea deal. At least 10 times, Cohen said, “I swear to God, Bob, I don't have anything on Donald Trump.” So, I turn to my friend, Jim Gossett, to play a little tune. While on the subject of Cohen, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about Speaker Johnson attending part of the court case. Rather than just say she has no idea, she literally said she could not discuss it because it was “in relation to the 2024 election.” Did she just admit this was, in fact, White House endorsed lawfare on Donald Trump? The House Oversight Committee just released a memo stating HHS was suspending funding and proposing formal debarment of EcoHealth Alliance. That's the 3rd party company Dr. Anthony Fauci funneled money into so it could then flow to the Wuhan Lab in China for gain-of-function research. Bad news for New Yorker Dexter Taylor. The self-taught gunsmith has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his hobby. Riley Gaines weighs in the suit in court from a sorority that was forced to accept a biological male. The arguments made in the opening day are but hysterical and sad at the same time. President Joe Biden produced a video of him challenging Donald Trump to a debate. With my background as the owner of a video production company, I breakdown the difference of something produced versus live. And, to top it off, if the first debate is really set for June 27, that would mean it is taking place after the 3-day trial in Florida where Trumps team is going to present evidence of Biden's White House colluding with NARA and the DOJ to manufacture the documents case. (AURN News) - The White House has responded to the widespread protests at U.S. college campuses that lasted nearly two weeks in response to the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas. Pro-Palestinian demonstrations inundated several universities, notably Columbia and the University of Texas. The White House addressed the campus unrest last Friday, with Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stating that decisions over police presence rest with the institutions themselves.  "We also believe and it is important that all Americans can peacefully protest within the law," Jean-Pierre said. "But Americans have the right to peacefully protest within the law. And we're going to be very consistent here."  She also acknowledged the "incredibly painful" and "very charged moment" stemming from the intense Mideast conflict. The protests reflect a continued divide among Americans in their stance toward the Israeli-Palestinian crisis. A new ABC News/Ipsos poll found 38% believe the U.S. is doing too much to support Israel, indicating a majority still backs Israel.  When it comes to trust in political leaders for handling the conflict, 37% have more confidence in former President Trump compared to 29% for President Biden. Rubicon: The Impeachment of Donald Trump

This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.politix.fmThis week, Matt and Brian look ahead to looming questions that, under normal circumstances, would be paint-by-numbers developments in a presidential election year: running-mate selection and debates. * President Biden recently confirmed that he intends to debate Donald Trump. Is this a wise decision, and how should he approach the task?* Do Biden's communication and strategic arms have the right acumen to see Biden through debates and other, similar challenges?* Can Trump have a running mate without attempting to steal his or her money or implicate them in the destruction of American democracy? Then, for paid subscribers, Brian and Matt apply questions raised by the new movie Civil War to real-life, Trump-era political violence incitement. With Trump running free from consequences, and promising to pardon insurrectionists, what's to stop him from applying the logic of January 6-style mob violence to other goals he may have? Is the logical endpoint of Trumpism a full-scale rebellion from one direction or another, or something slower-burning and harder to discourage? What can liberals and Democrats do to persuade people that the threat is real, without essentially guilt-tripping people into voting blue? We hope you enjoy the conversation, and if you'd like to listen to the whole thing, you can upgrade to paid for a private feed that gets you access to the complete Politix archive and all future episodes. Ignoring the ultimatum, students are rallying around their cause, demanding the university divest from Israel. The university, aiming to secure a peaceful campus environment ahead of the May 15 commencement, has offered to reveal its investments and review proposals on socially responsible investing.  Yet tensions soar as protesters, undeterred, continue to chant for transparency and divestment, even as the university threatens suspension to restore order for upcoming exams and graduation ceremonies. Meanwhile, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked during the White House briefing if the administration believes the students should face suspension.  "We're going to continue to say all Americans have the right to peacefully protest. The details were made public when Florida Judge Aileen Cannon unsealed a number of legal documents. 4:50pm- Afroman releases a new version of his 2000 hit song, “Because I Got High”—rewriting the lyrics to make fun of Hunter Biden. 5:00pm- A shocking new 2024 Presidential Election poll from CNN has Donald Trump beating President Joe Biden by 6% nationally. 5:15pm- While appearing on MSNBC, Rep. Over the weekend, hundreds of people flocked to New York's Union Square Park to watch an anonymous man known only as “Cheeseball Man” eat an entire tub of cheeseballs in one sitting. After listening to audio from the event, Henry outlandishly claims he could easily eat an entire tub of cheeseballs—Rich and Matt challenge him to do it in Cape May on Friday. 5:40pm- Pam Bondi—Former Florida Attorney General & Former Special Advisor to President Donald Trump—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to talk about how Trump has been unable to campaign in key swing states as he defends himself in court against politicized charges, particularly baffling from a legal perspective is the “hush money” case brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. 6:05pm- On Monday, Columbia University President Minouche Shafik informed student protesters on campus that the school would not divest from Israel and demanded demonstrators remove their encampment from campus by 2pm. Join Jim and Greg as they dig into reports that White House officials tried and failed to remove one of President Biden's biggest liabilities. They also have plenty to say about America's perilously low fertility rates and USC deciding to punish its graduates out of fear of some radical students.First, they pop the popcorn and discuss the New York Post report that de facto White House Communications Director Anita Dunn tried to get Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre to take a new job in order to hire someone much more talented than Jean-Pierre at the podium. But Jean-Pierre doesn't want to leave and the Biden team can't fire her. They also shudder as the U.S. fertility rate drops to a record low of 1.62 births per woman. That is well below the rate of replacement and also spells big trouble for a government incapable of any spending restraint and that is in the midst of an avalanche of retirements in the baby boom generation. The current path is unsustainable and Jim offers young Americans encouragement that they can and should get married and start having babies. Finally, they denounce the University of Southern California's decision to cancel the main commencement ceremony out of fears there will be disruptions related to Middle East grievances. They explain how this only rewards the troublemakers and Jim stresses that the Class of 2024, of all groups, deserves to celebrate commencement. Please visit our great sponsors:4Patriothttps://4Patriots.com/martiniGet the Deluxe 3-Month Survival Food Kit and the peace of mind your family deserves.  Free shipping on orders over $97. ZBioticshttps://zbiotics.com/3MLVisit today and save 15% at checkout with code 3ML.

White House Treads Carefully on Trump Trial

(AURN News) — The criminal trial of former President Donald Trump continues, marking a historic moment in U.S. history. The White House is treading carefully in its public comments on the case against Mr. Trump, which surrounds an alleged hush money payment made by Trump's team to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump has vehemently denied the charges, taking to his Truth Social platform to denounce the trial as "AN ASSAULT ON AMERICA!" and "RIGGED, UNCONSTITUTIONAL." In a series of posts, the former president lashed out at the "conflicted, Trump Hating Judge" overseeing the case, claiming he is being prevented from responding to "people that are on TV lying and spewing hate all day long." Trump demanded the gag order be lifted, decrying the "New York System of 'Justice'" as being "decimated by critics from all over the World." The White House, for its part, is treading cautiously when it comes to commenting on the unfolding legal drama. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Monday that the administration is being "super, super mindful" in its remarks, given the "ongoing" nature of the case. “Even if it's asking an opinion about the, you know — the historic nature of what's happening and what's going to occur over the next couple of weeks,” she said. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden has continued his campaign schedule, visiting his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania on Tuesday. The president is expected to make additional stops in the Keystone State in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. While Tuesday and Thursday are campaign-focused days, the president will make the economy the highlight of his visit to the steel city on Wednesday, according to the White House. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (02/28/2024): 3:05pm- On Wednesday, during a speech from the Senate floor, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced that he would be stepping down from his leadership position at the end of the term in November. Though, he does not plan to resign from the Senate. McConnell, now 82-years-old, has served in the U.S. Senate for nearly 40-years and has been the leader of the Senate Republican Conference since 2007. You can read more here: https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/4494536-mcconnell-to-step-down-as-senate-gop-leader/ 3:15pm- According to reports from both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, during a White House meeting on Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) joined Democrat leadership—President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries—in pressing Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) to vote on a bill that would send tens-of-billions of dollars of foreign aid to Ukraine. The bill, which passed in the Senate, has stalled in the House of Representatives. 3:40pm- On Tuesday, Michigan held its Republican and Democrat primaries. Donald Trump defeated Nikki Haley 68% to 27%. Meanwhile President Joe Biden won 81% of the vote—though, “uncommitted” received a shocking 101,000 votes, or 13% of the Democrat electorate. According to estimates, “uncommitted” earned enough support to be awarded 2 delegates. Perhaps most alarming for Democrats, “uncommitted”—which beat Biden in Dearborn and Hamtramck, both of which have large Arab American populations—also performed well in East Lansing and Ann Arbor, two college towns. Is Biden struggling to appeal to young voters? And what could that mean for Biden in a general election? 4:05pm- On Wednesday, President Joe Biden had his annual physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center—though, he received no cognitive test. During her White House press briefing, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre insisted that Biden “passes a cognitive test everyday” as president. You can read more here: https://www.wsj.com/politics/president-biden-gets-annual-physical-amid-concerns-about-age-76a608c9?mod=hp_lead_pos3 4:15pm- While appearing on CNN with Erin Burnett, former Obama Administration Advisor Van Jones reacted to the idea that Robert Kennedy Jr. might be able to win traditionally Democrat voters in swing states who may be unhappy with President Joe Biden's policies. Jones noted that Kennedy is “on track to be in enough states to cost Joe Biden the presidency.” 4:30pm- David Kappos—Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office under Barack Obama (2009-2013)—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss a Biden Administration proposal that would reinterpret the Bayh-Dole Act which deals with the development of intellectual property arising from research funded by the federal government—with ownership of the invention/patent being granted to the entity responsible for actually conducting the research. Rather than alter the bill through the legislative process, President Joe Biden may act unilaterally via executive order. And under Biden's proposed alteration to the Bayh-Dole Act's framework, he would weaken patent ownership—hobbling technological, medical, and scientific innovation done at universities, for example, in the process. A letter to Biden, signed by Kappos and other former government officials, states: “We believe the adoption of the Draft Framework would destabilize our nation's entire technology transfer system which is central to U.S. innovation, and we thus implore you to withdraw the framework in its entirety.” 4:50pm- After a seven-hour deposition, Hunter Biden and his attorney Abbe Lowell emerged from an office building on Capitol Hill. Lowell briefly spoke with members of the press and claimed that Republican members of Congress were unable to produce any evidence that Hunter Biden, or the Biden family, ever engaged in corrupt business practices. 5:00pm- Regina Egea—President of the Garden State Initiative (GSI) & served as Chief of Staff to former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Governor Phil Murphy's proposal that New Jersey adopt a corporate tax rate of 11.5%, which would be the highest in the entire country. How would this new proposed exorbitant tax impact job creation throughout the state? 5:20pm- Jess Bravin of The Wall Street Journal writes: “The Supreme Court agreed to consider whether Donald Trump must stand trial on charges he plotted to overturn the 2020 election, after lower courts rejected his claim that he is entitled to absolute immunity because he was president at the time. The court's move means it will have final say on an issue the judiciary never confronted before Trump. But it also means the former president has bought himself at least another couple of months before any trial, which had been scheduled to start in early March before the immunity battle scuttled those plans.” You find more on this developing story here: https://www.wsj.com/us-news/law/supreme-court-to-say-if-donald-trump-must-stand-trial-in-2020-election-conspiracy-case-1b7f4e3f 5:40pm- Phil Kerpen—President of American Commitment—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's announcement that he will be stepping down at the end of the term in November. Who is likely to replace him as leader of the Senate Republican Conference? Kerpen thinks it might be Sen. John Thune (R-SD) who currently serves as Senate Minority Whip. Plus, according to reports, Congressional leaders have agreed to a short-term bill to avoid a partial government shutdown which was at risk of occurring at the end of the week. And did Governor Gavin Newsom really exempt Panera Bread from new state minimum wage laws because they contributed to his campaign? McCarthy of National Review writes: “[Donald] Trump's legal team has asked the Appellate Division-First Department to accept a $100 million bond for the purposes of enabling him to appeal the civil-fraud judgment against him and of stopping New York attorney general Letitia James from beginning to execute that judgment—i.e., to start seizing his property if he can't pay up in cash. Matthew reconsiders past criticisms of Marianne Williamson's theology and candidacy in light of her principled call for a ceasefire as casualties in Gaza rise.  At a moment of global crisis, Williamson is distinguishing herself from the vast majority of her Democratic colleagues—including Bernie Sanders—by calling urgently for a ceasefire as the casualties in Gaza rise. Biden Democrats are struggling to utter the word “ceasefire.” Rashida Tlaib and the Squad are now targeted for primary challenges funded by AIPAC. Will it fall to a New Age pacifist—long derided as “the crystal lady”—to challenge the geopolitical status quo? Is Williamson's proposed “Department of Peace” really that naive at this point, now that Mike Johnson, as House Speaker, holds the Evangelical view that war in the Holy Land is a sign of Jesus's return? Elise Joshi, 21, is the executive director at Gen-Z for Change. She first gained widespread attention a few months ago when she interrupted a White House press conference being held by Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. In the viral video, a visibly nervous Joshi asked about the Biden administration's approval of ConocoPhillips' $8 billion Willow Pipeline project in Alaska, despite over 1 million young people requesting President Biden halt the project. The video has been viewed tens of millions of times across news outlets and shows. In this episode, Elise makes the point that the Biden administration has done many wonderful things for climate, including the Inflation Reduction Act. However, she noted that for many young people, Biden's climate record will be defined by Willow. The months-long Stop Willow movement was significantly influential across social media. She pointed out that in Biden's first two years, the Bureau of Land Management approved more oil and gas permits than during Trump's first two years, despite Biden's pledge and executive order to halt federal land drilling. This highlights the need to incentivize renewables and electrification while weaning the economy off fossil fuels. For many, progress on the latter has seemed lacking.Elise and Cody have an insightful conversation about these climate policy dynamics and her work at Gen-Z for Change. It's an exciting discussion that provides perspective on how she believes millions of young people view current climate policies. In this episode, we cover: [03:30]: Elise's personal journey to climate advocacy starting in high school[06:10]: Origins and evolution of Gen-Z for Change during COVID[08:32]: Elise's role growing from member to executive director of Gen-Z for Change[10:04]: Tools and activist techniques used by Gen-Z for Change[13:26]: The viral Stop Willow campaign against Arctic oil drilling[15:20]: Gen-Z for Change's role in amplifying the Stop Willow movement[18:47]: Messaging that resonates most with young people on climate[22:57]: Elise's recounting of the moment she stood up to Biden's Press secretary [26:42]: Critique of Biden climate policy as too focused on carrots vs sticks[31:06]: Hopes for bolder climate platform and Green New Deal in 2024[33:33]: Gen-Z for Change's focus on bottom-up organizing for 2024 elections[34:30]: Distrust of the current system and political candidates among Gen-Z [39:01]: How to support Gen-Z for Change[39:44]: Distinction between 502(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) [41:00]: Open resources created by Elise to educate people on climate issues[42:34]: Parting words on public transit and reducing car dependency Get connected: Elise Joshi X / LinkedInCody Simms X / LinkedInMCJ Podcast / Collective / Instagram*You can also reach us via email at info@mcjcollective.com, where we encourage you to share your feedback on episodes and suggestions for future topics or guests.Episode recorded on Sep 29, 2023 (Published on Oct 30, 2023)

GOP Spending Fight Tests Speaker McCarthy's Leadership

To avoid a government shutdown, Congress has until the end of September to pass a new spending bill. Currently, House Republicans are unable to reach a consensus on defense spending and move forward with a proposed short-term solution. Speaker McCarthy's proposed GOP plan included approximately 8 percent in budget cuts, allocating no money for military aid to Ukraine but did provide funds to bolster border security measures. A procedural vote on Tuesday effectively defeated the GOP plan, with Republican lawmakers fighting internally about where spending is most needed. One of the few naysayers, Republican Congressman Matt Rosendale (R-MT), joins the Rundown to share why he is not worried about the possibility of a shutdown and why he lobbied against the continuing resolution. Seventy percent of Americans say transgender athletes should only be allowed to compete in sports on teams that match their birth gender. The issue has stirred controversy across schools in the United States, with some parents of female athletes voicing opposition to what they see as an unfair advantage, while more liberal countries have had the community argue this backlash is LGBTQ+ discrimination. The debate has the Biden administration in a difficult spot, with Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre telling FBN there is no "yes or no answer" for this issue. Meanwhile, 2024 GOP candidate Nikki Haley has called this the "women's issue of our time," criticizing the Biden administration for allowing "biological men to compete in women's sports." On the Rundown, FOX Business' Hillary Vaughn is covering this as part of FBN's weeklong series on "Education in America,'' and she breaks down the trans athlete controversy and how lawmakers are addressing these concerns. The audio is from July 2021, and was made while Trump was speaking with writers doing research for a Mark Meadows memoir. In the recording, Trump can be heard saying of the documents: “As president I could have declassified it, but now I can't.” But does the audio definitively prove he mishandled sensitive information? 3:10pm- According to an NBC News poll, Vice President Kamala Harris has a net-negative approval rating of -17—which is the lowest rating for any vice president in the history of the poll. The poll also indicates that 39% of registered voters have a “very negative” view of Harris. In this 174th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. The Press Secretary said this week that “These are our kids. They belong to all of us.” Conservatives had a predictable meltdown. Is she right, or is she wrong? What are the “sides” in this debate? Are there more than two sexes? Can a human transition between sexes? Are we sliding back towards regressive gender norms, and embracing social contagion and mental illness? With regard to a Florida bill restricting gender transition interventions for minors, an ER doc said that it is his job to “take care” of people, regardless of their beliefs. True. But what does it mean to take care? The two sides in this debate fundamentally disagree about what constitutes care. Finally, Bret invites Eliezer Yudkowsky to debate AI, LLM's and complex vs. complicated systems. ***** Our sponsors: Sole: Carefully designed, personally moldable footbeds for healthy feet. The deployment under the state’s Operation Lone Star comes days ahead of the expected May 11 end of the Title 42 migrant expulsion program. “These additional forces will bolster the thousands of Texas National Guard service members already assisting local and state law enforcement agencies to secure the border; stop the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and people into Texas; and prevent, detect, and interdict transnational criminal behavior between the ports of entry,” Texas Military Department officials said in a written statement. “We have expanded our capabilities to include boat teams that patrol hundreds of river miles, drones and helicopters that detect illicit activity from the air, and brush teams, security points, and roving patrols that block and interdict illegal smuggling (drugs, weapons, and people) into Texas.” On Sunday, Border Patrol agents in the five Texas-based sectors apprehend more than 5,100 migrants who crossed the border from Mexico, according to a law enforcement source. This represents nearly 60 percent of the nearly 8,700 who crossed along the entire southwest border with Mexico. The number of migrants crossing the border from Mexico surged last week ahead of this week’s expected end to the CDC’s Title 42 migrant expulsion protocol. On Friday and Saturday, the number of apprehensions exceeded 9,000 per day, Breitbart Texas reported U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz reported the apprehension of 54,951 migrants during the preceding seven-day period. In addition, another 18,698 migrants were classified as “got-aways.” So far this fiscal year, agents apprehended nearly 1.4 million migrants along the southwest border, according to a law enforcement official. Migrant got-aways jumped to nearly 453,000 bringing the total number of known border crossers this fiscal year to more than 1.8 million migrants in less than seven months. https://thepostmillennial.com/white-house-to-limit-press-credentials-to-those-who-act-professional?utm_campaign=64487 White House to limit press credentials to those who act 'professional' On Friday, the White House released a new set of rules for press badges, also known as hard passes, that stated the recipient must act in a "professional manner" in order to keep their badge and told all who currently possess a pass must reply by July 31. The New York Post reports that the announcement said, "The White House expects that all hard pass holders will act in a professional manner while on White House grounds by respecting their colleagues, White House employees, and guests; observing stated restrictions on access to areas of the White House or credentialed events; and not impeding events or briefings on campus." "Absent security concerns involving the United States Secret Service or other exigent circumstances, the White House will provide a written warning to you if your conduct violates these expectations. Subsequent violations may lead to the suspension or revocation of your hard pass, following notice and an opportunity to respond," the notice continued. The move comes after Today News Africa reporter Simon Ateba grilled Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in January and told her, "You don't seem a good fit for this job." Reporters who have had badges auto-renew since 2017 need to have their employer submit a letter to the White House confirming "full-time employment with an organization whose principal business is news dissemination." The notice said that freelancers, "will need letters from two news organizations describing your affiliation, or, if you freelance primarily for one organization, a letter from that organization describing the extent and duration of your relationship with the organization." The journalists need to provide proof of a personal or professional address in the DC area, submit to a background check, have an "accreditation by a press gallery in either the Supreme Court, US Senate or US. House of Representatives," and "have accessed the White House campus at least once during the prior six months for work, or have proof of employment within the last three months to cover the White House." A White House press official told the Post, "This has been thoughtfully considered for more than a year. We worked hard to be responsive to needs and feedback of journalists covering the White House. As we return to these prior criteria, which help ensure hard passes are in the hands of reporters who need regular access to campus as part of their duties, we are providing a nearly 3-month window for reporters to turn in their applications and reach out with any questions. Kevin Stitt (R) has defended his decision to veto a bill seeking to fund the state’s PBS station through 2026, arguing that the state-funded broadcaster is indoctrinating and sexualizing children. Last week Stitt vetoed HB 2820, which would have funded the statewide PBS station Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA) until 2026. In a recent interview with Fox News, Stitt explained his reason for doing so, highlighting objectionable content such as a segment of “Let’s Learn” featuring the children’s book “The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish,” being read by a drag queen called Lil Miss Hot Mess. “OETA, to us, is an outdated system. You know, the big, big question is why are we spending taxpayer dollars to prop up or compete with the private sector and run television stations? And then when you go through all of the programming that's happening and the indoctrination and over-sexualization of our children, it's just really problematic, and it doesn't line up with Oklahoma values,” Stitt told Fox News. In addition to Lil Miss Hot Mess, one of the founders of Drag Queen Story Time, reading The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish,” the governor’s office mentioned a PBS Newshour segment that featured parents who supported children having access to experimental medical sex changes, as well as abundant “Pride Month” programming, and a special about a town of Christians and drag queens who “step into the spotlight to dismantle stereotypes.” Stitt objects to the use of tax dollars funding someone’s agenda. He went on to call the concept of the public television station “outdated.” Stitt’s decision has been criticized by some on the left, including by State Rep. Monroe Nichols (D) who accused Stitt of “continued attacks on public education and underrepresented Oklahoma communities.” Stitt responded by calling this accusation “nonsense,” and just another attempt by Democrats to push a radical left agenda on children. The Colorado House of Representatives on Saturday passed SB 188, which would require the state’s courts and medical licensing boards to protect doctors who dispense hormones and perform sex changes on teens from states that restrict these surgeries, as well as those who provide abortions. The bill, which was cosponsored by Rep. Brianna Titone (D.), who identifies as transgender, was approved alongside two pieces of legislation that would expand abortion access in the state, all three of which have already passed the state senate. Colorado is the latest blue state whose legislators have moved to enshrine protections to controversial medical procedures. Oregon Democrats last month passed a package designed to make their state a "haven" for people seeking sex changes and abortions, and Minnesota has passed similar legislation. California lawmakers have advanced a number of similar bills, including one bill that would allow children to check into group homes if their parents do not support their "gender identity." The bill, which passed on party lines, was advanced late Saturday after 29-hours of contentious debate. Before passing the measure, House lawmakers added an amendment stating that the state’s definition of "reproductive health care" includes sex change procedures and sterilization. This would ensure the legislation applies for minors under 19, according to Colorado Catholic Conference executive director Brittany Vessely. During the floor debate, Titone scolded a Republican colleague who questioned the safety of child sex changes, saying he lacked "empathy" and claimed no one would choose to change genders voluntarily. An increasing number of children are saying they are transgender, Reuters reported. In 2021, some 42,000 children and teens were told by therapists that they have gender dysphoria—almost triple the number given this diagnosis in 2017. The bill could still face a legal challenge. The state assembly’s non-partisan counsel said last week that SB 188 violates a provision in Colorado’s constitution barring bills from regulating more than one subject, Colorado Politics reports. Colorado’s Office of Legislative Legal Services found that the bill improperly welds the terms "reproductive health care" and "gender-affirming health care" into one entity, when they are actually separate. Democrats say this was a technical issue they resolved in the amendment process. But Republicans say the constitutional problems persist and that the error points to a much larger problem. The bill is expected to be sent to Gov. Jared Polis’s desk for approval, along with the two abortion bills that passed Saturday. Those bills would empower state officials to target crisis pregnancy centers for promoting alleged "misinformation" about abortion and force insurance plans to cover abortion without copays. The bills would also make Colorado the first state to ban abortion pill reversals. https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/04/06/exclusive-jim-jordan-subpoenas-manhattan-prosecutor-who-resigned-over-suspended-trump-probe/ Jim Jordan Subpoenas Manhattan Prosecutor Who Resigned over Suspended Trump Probe House Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) escalated Republicans’ investigation into the Manhattan district attorney’s indictment of former President Donald Trump by subpoenaing a prosecutor on Thursday who resigned from the office last year over the district attorney’s initial reluctance to pursue Trump’s case. Jordan’s subpoena, reviewed by Breitbart News, directs Mark Pomerantz, who resigned from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office in February 2022, to appear before the committee for a deposition on April 20. Pomerantz, a former special assistant assigned to the years-long Trump case, exited the Manhattan district attorney’s office right after Bragg took over. The move became a public affair when his resignation letter appeared in the New York Times last March. Pomerantz wrote in the letter to Bragg that he believed Trump was “guilty of numerous felony violations” related to his financial statements and that he was quitting because he thought Bragg’s decision at the time to “indefinitely” suspend the investigation into Trump was “misguided.” Jordan observed, based on the resignation letter, that Pomerantz had “prejudged the results” of the investigation and that his critical words of Bragg seemingly sparked the district attorney to openly declare that the Trump investigation was “far from over.” In November 2022, one week after Trump announced he was running for president again, the Times reported that Bragg had revived the Trump investigation and had zeroed in on a hush money scheme involving porn star Stormy Daniels and Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen. “For Mr. Bragg, the hush-money developments suggest the first signs of progress since he took office at the beginning of the year, when he balked at indicting Mr. Trump in connection with his business practices,” the outlet reported at the time. Pomerantz later went on to publish a book about the matter, called People vs. Donald Trump: An Inside Account, in which Pomerantz discussed internal concerns people had about the investigation and worries about the credibility of Cohen, a convicted felon. He added that Pomerantz “frivolously” compared Trump to John Gotti, a notorious New York City mob boss, and described him as a “malignant narcissist.” “The depth of your personal animosity towards him is apparent in your writing,” Jordan concluded. The subpoena marks Republicans’ strongest move yet in its investigation of the New York County’s indictment of Trump amid questions from some about Congress’s authority to probe open state-level criminal matters. https://americanmilitarynews.com/2023/04/us-kills-isis-leader-who-planned-international-terrorist-attacks/ US kills ISIS leader who planned international terrorist attacks A senior ISIS leader responsible for planning international terrorist attacks was killed in a U.S. strike on Monday in Syria, dealing another blow to the remnants of the Islamic State. U.S. Central Command, which oversees Middle East operations, said in a statement that the killing of the commander, al-Jabouri, will “temporarily disrupt [ISIS’] ability to plot external attacks.” Describing the operation as a “unilateral strike,” CENTCOM stated that al-Jabouri was a planner for attacks in Europe and Turkey, and had developed the leadership structure for ISIS in Turkey. CENTCOM said the strike did not injure or kill any civilians. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a U.K.-based nonprofit that tracks conflict in Syria, reported that a drone strike killed the commander while he was walking and making a phone call near his house. The strike came two weeks after U.S. forces in Syria traded deadly strikes with Iranian proxies, raising fears of escalation in the region. The Iran-backed strikes killed an American contractor and gave six U.S. troops traumatic brain injuries, CNN reported. Retaliatory strikes by the U.S. killed eight militants and targeted facilities used by groups associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Iran’s internal militia and its main force for operations beyond its borders. CENTCOM has stated that the U.S. has about 900 troops deployed in Syria, as well as about 170 contractors, Stars and Stripes reported. U.S. forces are stationed in Syria “to keep an ISIS resurgence at bay,” a military spokesman told the Washington Post in December. CENTCOM Commander Gen. Michael Kurilla told a congressional committee in March that “ISIS would return within one to two years” if the U.S. pulled out of Syria, Stars and Stripes reported. The House of Representatives recently voted down an effort to force the withdrawal of about 900 troops from Syria. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/apr/06/clarence-thomas-supreme-courts-gifts-republican-megadonor Clarence Thomas faces impeachment calls after reports of undisclosed gifts Clarence Thomas, the most conservative justice on the US supreme court, is facing renewed calls for impeachment after it was reported that for two decades he has accepted undisclosed luxury gifts from a Republican mega-donor. Thomas may have violated financial disclosure rules when he failed to disclose travel on yachts and jets and other gifts funded by the property billionaire Harlan Crow and uncovered by ProPublica. It found that Thomas flies on Crow’s Bombardier Global 5000 jet and holidays on Crow’s 162ft super-yacht. He has enjoyed holidays at Crow’s ranch in Texas and joined him at an exclusive all-male California retreat. The justice usually spends about a week each summer at Crow’s private resort in the Adirondack mountains in New York. The revelations prompted sharp criticism by Democrats of Thomas, who after 31 years is the longest-serving justice and an influential voice in the rightwing majority that last year ended the right to abortion. Dick Durbin, a Democrat from Illinois and chair of the Senate judiciary committee, said: “This behavior is simply inconsistent with the ethical standards the American people expect of any public servant, let alone a justice on the supreme court. “Today’s report demonstrates, yet again, that supreme court justices must be held to an enforceable code of conduct, just like every other federal judge. The ProPublica report is a call to action, and the Senate judiciary committee will act.” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive congresswoman from New York, tweeted: “This is beyond party or partisanship. This degree of corruption is shocking – almost cartoonish. Thomas must be impeached. Barring some dramatic change, this is what the [chief justice John] Roberts court will be known for: rank corruption, erosion of democracy, and the stripping of human rights.” Impeachment remains unlikely, even given other calls regarding the pro-Trump activities of Thomas’s wife, the rightwing activist Ginni Thomas, and not just because Republicans hold the House. Only one supreme court justice has ever been impeached: Samuel Chase, in 1804-05. He was acquitted in the Senate.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (01/16/2023):  3:00pm- On Saturday, the White House released a statement revealing that five additional pages containing classified information were found at President Joe Biden's home in Wilmington, Delaware. According to The New York Times, the classified documents “were discovered hours after a White House statement on Thursday morning that cited only one" page had been “discovered the night before in a storage area adjacent to the garage.” 3:20pm- While appearing on MSNBC, former Congressman David Jolly argued that President Joe Biden should be praised for his handling of classified documents—arguing that after discovering the documents, Biden did exactly what he was supposed to do by contacting the proper authorities.  3:45pm- Speaking with Jonathan Karl on ABC's This Week, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) endorsed Attorney General Merrick Garland's decision to appoint a special counsel to investigate Joe Biden's mishandling of classified documents. Schiff said he couldn't “exclude the possibility” that there was a national security risk to Biden's actions.  3:50pm- Chairman of the House Oversight Committee James Comer (R-TN) questioned why the discovery of the Biden documents wasn't announced immediately after they were discovered on November 2nd—speculating that it likely had to do with the impact the news could have had on the highly consequential November 8th midterm elections.  3:55pm- Why was Hunter Biden paying Joe Biden $50,000 a month for rent at the Wilmington home where classified documents were discovered? According to a report from Zero Hedge, “the most expensive home currently for rent in Wilmington, Delaware is going for $6,000 per month.” 4:00pm- Despite seven whales washing-up along New Jersey beaches, Governor Phil Murphy insists he will not halt the development of massive offshore windmill farms. Environmental organizations have expressed concern that the dead whales could be the result of development-related exploration of the ocean floor. 4:15pm- Recently on 60 Minutes, Stanford University biologist Paul Ehrlich warned of an unavoidable “mass extinction.” Ehrlich has a long history of making inaccurate doomsday predictions: in the 1970's he famously warned that overpopulation would cause mass starvation and chaos, in the 1990's he stated Florida and Washington D.C. would soon be underwater, and in 2014 he suggested that in the not-too-distant future society will be forced to eat human bodies.  4:35pm- In an attempted defense of Joe Biden's mishandling of classified documents, The New York Times published an article titled, “Documents Inquiry Puts Spotlight on Biden's Frenetic Last Days as Vice President”—suggesting that the chaotic finally days of the Obama Administration are responsible for Biden's carelessness. NYT White House correspondents Peter Baker and Michael D. Shear also name White House aides who may be responsible for misplacing the classified documents now at the center of a Justice Department's special counsel investigation. Zeoli wonders: Who, from the Biden Administration, coordinated with Baker and Shear to write this defense?  4:50pm- Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy said that Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had no say in the Biden Administration's decision to hide the classified documents scandal from the press for two-months. So, who is making these decisions?  5:00pm- The World Economic Forum Conference—an international non-governmental lobbying organization—is set to kick off their annual summit in Davos, Switzerland on Monday. The meeting's primary concerns: environmentalism and climate change. But how many conference participants will be arriving in private jets? According to a study from Greenpeace, an estimated 1,040 private jets were used by attendees at the 2022 World Economic Forum conference.   5:15pm- BlackRock CEO Larry Fink warned that he expects a recession in 2023.  5:25pm- While appearing on Fox News, investigative journalist Matt Tiabbi estimated that 500 to 1,000 people from multiple federal government agencies were involved in censoring social media posts, specifically on Twitter.  5:45pm- The Intercept's Jeremy Scahill writes that in the 1970s then-Senator Joe Biden scuttled President Jimmy Carter's nomination of Ted Sorenson to CIA Director, alleging that Sorenson had unlawfully possessed classified documents. Biden, according to Scahill, even suggested Sorenson could be prosecuted under the Espionage Act.  6:05pm- National Review's Dominic Pino writes that the “Consumer Product Safety Commission is out of control.” After considering a ban on gas-stoves, citing alleged pollutants the stoves expel, the agency is now targeting a small business owner.  6:25pm- President Joe Biden sang “happy birthday” to Andrea Waters King—wife of Martin Luther King III—but seemingly forgot her name midway through the song…. 6:40pm- In a recent opinion editorial, Princeton University philosophy professor Peter Singer idiotically compared climate activists who deface artwork to Martin Luther King Jr.—arguing that the climate activists are simply doing what is required in order to draw public attention to their cause.
