Safety experts share strategies to revitalize job hazard analysis programs. A piece of paper won't save your life, but what's on that paper could. Trish and Traci, along with guest Valerie Stakes, discuss five steps to improve job hazard analysis (JHA) programs: honest program evaluation, form clarity, embedding JHAs in other documents, improved training and increasing visibility through collaboration.
When's the last time the outcome of a risk assessment was a surprise? Thought so. So why do we do risk assessments, anyway? Are we really making decisions based on them? It doesn't sound like it. Is it a social process, then? Shit, man, that's a lame party. The boys try to sort through the mess of matrices, JHAs, JSAs, safety risk committees, and all that to get to what we actually expect from an assessment of risk. Do you Blame your Parents for your Issues? Why and How To Shift Your Mindset With Sonia Jhas “Change will only come when we recognize the shift is ours to make.” In this episode, you'll hear: Why do we have to reframe the way we think about our parents and what they taught us? The difference between self-worth and self-confidence and how they impact your happiness Sonia's experience with plant medicine and what she learned about herself through it Sonia Jhas is a mindset and wellness expert who left the corporate world when she realized the ideals instilled in her as a child to chase perfectionism could not make her happy. Having a fast-paced career and constantly working out to be the “right size” wasn't enough to make her feel accomplished. Now, she is passionate about living a life guided by her own internal compass despite external or societal pressures, being real about what the journey looks like, and inspiring others to live in alignment. In this episode, Mathew and Sonia discuss her story of choosing healing over comfort, Mathew's relationship with idealized success, and the realization that no one is responsible for the shift you need to make in your life but you. We often tend to point blame towards our parents for the negative traits we see in ourselves, but Sonia tells us we have to rethink the narratives we have about our family to understand that no matter how far away we move or how much “success” we achieve, the only way to break free is to do the internal work ourselves. Sonia also talks about her experience with plant medicines and how her relationship to perceived success translated to her relationship with her body. She always thought that happiness was just 10 pounds, but realized she would never be happy as long as she saw her body as something that always needed to be fixed. You are going to be riveted by Sonia Jhas' story. Sonia is the author of “I'll Start Again Tomorrow, and Other Lies I've Told Myself”, a mindset and wellness expert, and personal trainer. She's also authentic and wise. For a long time in her life, she was seeking health, wellness and happiness in all the wrong places: achieving goals, pursuing the wrong career, eating disorders, weight loss, and pure determination. We have an incredible conversation about the wearisome cycle of reaching for the perfect body and then falling “off the wagon” so to speak, feeling terrible about it yet repeating that cycle over and over again. She says that even from a young age, she didn't feel good in her own skin, and the first pain point she needed to solve was the relationship with her own body. What followed was an un-peeling of layers in her mindset, her goals and her lifestyle. There was no quick fix. She abandoned what she knew about fitness and nutrition and started over. I love that she talked about “abandoning the timeline” for her goals. Instead, she started paying attention to how she felt about every aspect about her health routines, and she got really clear about what she wanted. Those mindset shifts started to make all the difference and paved the way for her to be able to start making aligned decisions and truly change her life. Lastly, Sonia and I talk about body image. Such an important topic. I really loved her perspective on this - she gave us some great tips on tuning into our bodies, honoring the mind-body connection and fueling a narrative about ourselves that is about “capacity and potential.” Sonia's book - I'll Start Again Tomorrow and Other Lies I've Told Myself Sonia on IG Sonia's website Connect with the Daily Wellness Community website: dailywellnesscommunity.com IG: @dailywellnesscommunity Facebook: Daily Wellness Community Leave a podcast review on Apple Podcasts Some products I mention may be affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission if you decide to make a purchase through one of my links. Have you ever fallen off the wagon and told yourself you'll start again on Monday? Or started a new exercise habit and said ‘this time I'll make it stick'… only to find yourself getting home from work the next night exhausted and stressed and opting for a night on the couch instead of going to the gym? We all have our own narratives that have the potential to derail us and my guest today is somebody who's unpacked her fair share of them, both personally and with her coaching clients. Sonia Jhas is a mindset coach, speaker, and author of the book, “I'll start again tomorrow (and other lies I've told myself)”. I'm fascinated by the power our inner voice has to either encourage us towards our goals and growth or hold us back and Sonia's approach to understanding and gently changing this narrative is refreshing and honest. We talk about how to identify limiting beliefs, (which can be a challenge when we… well, believe them!), then how to start chipping away at changing them. Sonia shares her alternative approach to practicing gratitude, and how to balance holding ourselves to account with enough self-compassion that we don't feel crushed or inadequate when we miss the mark. There's a ton of useful insights and techniques you can take away from this conversation and Sonia has really made a name for herself with not just her content but also her personality, energy and ability to connect with her audiences so I know that this episode is going to give you a bit of a boost!
