The Automotive Troublemaker w/ Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier
Shoot us a Text. With a new week comes the anticipation of being able to serve people, both inside and outside of the automotive industry. Today, we'll be talking about a $1B investment in the EV supply chain, the best lease deals out there right now, and Gen Z taking tech jobs from Millennials.Show Notes with links:Monroe Capital is launching a $1 billion fund, backed by federal government programs, to support small auto suppliers in the shift to electric vehicles. This move aims to strengthen U.S. supply chains and competitiveness. The Drive Forward Fund will be backed by government-guaranteed lending via a Small Business Administration license. The U.S. Treasury also announced a $9.1 million grant to help Michigan suppliers secure EV financing.New U.S. tariffs and EV tax credit rules are encouraging a shift in supply chains away from China.“This fund will catalyze growth and innovation within America's automotive supply chain,” said Monroe CEO Ted Koenig.September 2024 is packed with unbeatable lease deals on electric vehicles, making it the perfect time to help customers make the switch to an EV. Here are some of the top offers:Hyundai IONIQ 5: $159/month for 24 months with $3,999 due.Hyundai IONIQ 6: $239/month for 24 months with $3,999 due.Tesla Model 3: $299/month (or $160/month after incentives).Kia Niro EV: $169/month for 24 months with $3,999 due.Chevrolet Equinox EV: $239/month for 24 months with $3,169 due.Toyota bZ4x: $239/month for 36 months with $2,999 due.VinFast VF8: $199/month for 36 months with $199 due. With tech jobs increasingly favoring younger applicants, Millennials—now in their 30s and early 40s—are facing growing competition from Gen Z as employers continue to celebrate youth over experience, prioritizing fresh perspectives, fast adaptability and cultural fit. New federal data reveals the number of workers under 25 in the US tech workforce grew by 9% annually from 2014-2022, surpassing industry averages.Nearly 41% of tech workers are aged 25 to 39, compared to 33% in the overall workforce.Workers over 40 are increasingly sidelined, despite laws protecting against ageism since 1967.Age discrimination complaints in tech account for 20% of all EEOC filings.“Gen X built the tech industry. There's a ton of value there,” says John Rizzo, reflecting on his struggle to find work at 60.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email

John Anthony Rizzo was an American attorney who worked as a lawyer in the Central Intelligence Agency for 34 years. He was the deputy counsel or acting general counsel of the CIA for the first nine years of the War on Terror, during which the CIA held dozens of detainees in black site prisons around the globe. During the George W. Bush administration, the Office of Legal Counsel in the Department of Justice approved various forms of torture (referred to as "enhanced interrogation techniques") in memos to Rizzo for use by CIA interrogators at the black sites. Rizzo signed off on all CIA-directed drone strikes from September 2001 until October 2009. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/art-mcdermott/support

From April 19, 2014: Benjamin Wittes had meant to have a book review of former CIA lawyer John Rizzo's new book, Company Man: Thirty Years of Controversy and Crisis in the CIA, ready to run along with this episode of the podcast. But he was still working on the review, which will be up shortly, and he didn't want to hold up the podcast while he finished it.Ben caught up with Rizzo at a recent conference at Pepperdine University Law School. They talked about the book, some of its major themes, the persistence of the interrogation controversies and their latest manifestations. They also talked about the growth of lawyering at the CIA and why all the lawyers in the world can't seem to keep the agency out of trouble. And they talked about a career that, in many ways, tells the story of the modern CIA and the effort to do intelligence and covert action under law—from the Church Committee to the post 9/11 scandals.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/lawfare.

Hey there folks, we're ready for season two of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast. The last few months, we’ve gone with more of an interview-style show, and that’s how I’m going to keep it for the time being. I’ll still provide some updates of the happenings in wrestling, but they’ll be on the Monday and Friday shows. If you’re new to the podcast, and you’re here by simply hitting that play button, I’d encourage you to head over to mattalkonline.com/getshorttime to subscribe to the podcast with iTunes. It’s the easiest way to get this show with news, reviews, previews and interviews.Today we’ll talk with former James Madison head wrestling coach Jeff “Peanut” Bowyer, who’s the event director for the Matsplosion wrestling event coming to King of Prussia, Pennsylvania on Nov. 14-16. Before we get to Peanut -- yes, they still call him Peanut, we’ll run down a few happenings on the mats on Thursday, November 6.Three ranked teams were in action on the Division I level with two of them squaring off at McComb Fieldhouse in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. Former EWL rivals now in different conferences, it was 14th-ranked Pittsburgh upending 10th-ranked Edinboro 25-13. Dom Forys, a true freshman from North Allegheny, that’s the same high school as Jake Herbert, Ray Brinzer and Teague Moore – had a solid 6-0 win over 19th-ranked Korey Mines at 125. Edinboro would take the lead after a fall by A.J. Schopp anda major decision by Mitchell Port. Pittsburgh’s Edgar Bright didn’t step to the mat at 141. The Panthers were also without All-American Tyler Wilps at 174. Edinboro wrestled without All-American David Habat and freshman heavyweight Billy Miller. The key match down the stretch came at 184 pounds where fifth-ranked Max Thomusseit defeated 10th-ranked Vic Avery 10-5. Heading into heavyweight down 19-13, Edinboro needed a fall from Warren Bosch to send the dual to criteria. Bosch jumped out early on John Rizzo and while he was trying to turn late in the second period, Rizzo reversed Bosch to his back and quickly settled in for the fall to cement the upset. At Grace Hall in Bethlehem, Pa. 15th-ranked Lehigh had a vastly different look in a 24-9 win over Hofstra. Four new faces won matches, including true freshman Dylan Milonas at 157, Central Florida transfer Santiago Martinez at 165, Cornell transfer Marshall Peppelman at 174 and true freshman Scotty Parker at 125 – Shout out to R.P. Norley and those Pennridge Rams. At 184, Nathaniel Brown looked strong coming off his redshirt year, teching Jermaine John in the second period.Lehigh will face Penn State at Rec Hall on Sunday. Hofstra falls to 1-1.In Division II, 16th-ranked Upper Iowa rolled past Truman and NAIA Waldorf. Also in the NAIA, Central Baptist topped Arkansas Baptist 33-18.Now we’ll talk MATSPLOSION with the Executive Vice President of Level2Sports, Peanut Bowyer. During a crisis, said former CIA Director George Tenet, "You don't call in the tough guys; you call in the lawyers." From 1976 to 2009, John Rizzo was the lawyer they called. He made legal calls on virtually every major CIA issue of the past 30 years, from rules governing waterboarding and drones to answering for the Iran Contra scandal. Topics covered on today's episode of Mind Set Daily "Supercomputer Duplicates Human Brain Activity" The most accurate simulation of the human brain to date has been carried out in a Japanese supercomputer, with a single second’s worth of activity from just one per cent of the complex organ taking one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers 40 minutes to calculate. Researchers used the K computer in Japan, currently the fourth most powerful in the world, to simulate human brain activity. "Hollywood Figures Spied for CIA" It’s well known that Hollywood loves a good spy story. But what is also true, according to a new book by a former senior CIA official, is that movie makers regularly do some real-life spying. “The CIA has long had a special relationship with the entertainment industry, devoting considerable attention to fostering relationships with Hollywood movers and shakers—studio executives, producers, directors, big-name actors,” John Rizzo, the former acting CIA general counsel, wrote in his new book, “Company Man: Thirty Years of Crisis and Controversy in the CIA.” Find out more by listening to this episode! Back in the dark days of the Cold War, John le Carre published The Spy Who Came In From The Cold. It cast a light, as only fiction sometimes can, on covert actions that are not a clear choice between good and evil, but one where the methods that western intelligence would use, disturbingly resembled those used by their opponents. The distance between us and them became blurred. It exposed the Cold War not as a battle between light and darkness, but a place where both sides meandered in the twilight of moral ambiguity. In the days following 9/11 we as a nation, our policies and our intelligence service, the CIA, would again begin to blur those lines. At the same time, the actions that the President would arguably take, were reminiscent of Richard Nixon's comments in his famous interview with the late David Frost where he said, talking about Watergate at the time, "if the President does it, it means it's not illegal."John Rizzo as, CIA General Council was at the center as that post 9/11 storm, as he was at the center of everything the CIA did for 34 years. He takes us through the history in Company Man: Thirty Years of Controversy and Crisis in the CIA.My conversation with John Rizzo:
