Happy Saturday, or whatever day you're listening to this on. I am sitting on the couch. I just got down on some lesser evil; they’re like sweet Himalayan salt popcorn. I don’t know why; going to the grocery store is so f*cking dangerous when you're hungry. Because I know I cannot handle having popcorn in the house. I can’t handle it. I do just fine with popcorn; I don’t have any gastrointestinal distress from it. But, I can’t stop eating it. And I even put it in a bowl. You know when you're like; ok. I’ll put it in a bowl, and I’ll only eat this much. But then you go back to the bag. What was the point of even putting it in a f*cking bowl? Well, I put it in a bowl and then went back for more. And I’m just so full. And you have to eat a lot of f*cking popcorn to get so full. Too full, man. But, you know, that’s what happens. Can I just say; I just have the Food Network on. It’s just on mute with all the commercials playing. Have you guys ever watched Kids Baking Show. Baking, I don’t f*cking know. I just literally saw the commercial. I love that show. It is the most innocent thing. I don’t even like kids. And this show is just so innocent. Because it’s just kids being nice to each other. And wanting to do their best, but helping each other out. So if somebody is not going to finish in time, someone will go over there and help them finish their dessert. It’s the cutest thing ever. And nobody is talking sh*t about each other. Nobody is being mean to each other. I just love it. I haven’t watched Bachelor in Paradise this season; which I always watch every season. But I feel like I was finally; I got to the point where I’m like; ok, who has time to watch this? I don’t have time. Two hours? And what was the finale, like 3 hours? Of just bullsh*t. And then Bachelor in Paradise comes on and I’m traveling. And once I’m home, I want to hang out with my husband without him hating me. So that means not watching Bachelor things. And now I’m like; isn’t Bachelor in Paradise like 4 hours a week? I don’t know. My husband is not supposed to be home very early today. He has a golf tournament or something. So I maybe will watch it then. But then it’s like; I could watch The Office, instead. But I feel almost sad that I’m kind of breaking up with the Bachelor. I’m sure I’ll be back. It always hooks me back in. Anywho. I’m back here in Denver. Back home with my puppy dog. Last week I was in Montreal recording the podcast. And this week, I am home. And it feels so freaking good. I love being home. I don’t know about you, but it’s my favorite. I love getting my regular workouts in. I love eating my own home cooked food. I love being at home. I love not having to be around a ton of people. I’m just very much by myself kind of person. It’s surprising that I’m even married. Because I’m so into being by myself. But, it feels so good to be home. I don’t travel for another month. I’m going to travel to Lake Tahoe next. I’m going to be with my girlfriends, Joy and Clare, of Girls Gone WOD. And we’re going to this podcast event, where all these people podcast together. I don’t f*cking know; I’m just showing up with a ton of people I don’t know. And I should know, because they’re like important people.
My girlfriend Sara (formerly known as Sarah) is coming on the podcast to share her experience with being single in Denver, dating apps, hook ups and everly lovely and awkward story in between. Sara is a ball of energy and sarcasm. You're gonna love her! ____________ Support the podcast by clicking the Subscribe button on iTunes and please a review only if you love the podcast! Juli Bauer: Recording right away. Because that’s just how I do it. Welcome to another episode of PaleOMG Uncensored. Today I’m not here by myself; you don’t have to hear me talk to myself for a f*cking hour while I yawn. Because I can’t get enough oxygen in, so I just yawn the whole time. Because today, I have a friend over! I just burped. I’m bringing my girlfriend, Sara, to the couch of PaleOMG. This hairy f*cking couch. It’s getting dog hair all over you. Are you so annoyed? Single Sara: No. This is the risk you take when you only wear black. Juli Bauer: For real. I brought my friend Sara in because the other day I was talking about how I had to record a podcast by myself, and my life sucks. She was like; why don’t I just come over and record a podcast with you? So that’s what we’re doing. Single Sara: Yep. Juli Bauer: Sara is living the single life in Denver. So we’re going to talk about being single in Denver. What it’s like. Some of the worst and best dates. Oh my god, I can’t wait. Before we get started let’s first talk about the Bachelor. Which, you don’t watch. Single Sara: No. Because I had a bad experience. Remember Jason’s season; single dad, little boy. He was all about finding the right woman, and he found Melissa. Broke up with her on After the Rose to get back together with his runner up. And it was like; you're a f*cking asshole. You put on this whole front. Juli Bauer: And I think he’s still with her. Single Sara: He is. And then she went on to Dancing with the Stars, and never looked better. Married somebody, and it all worked out. But I was invested. Hours. Juli Bauer: Yeah. And then your broken up about it. Single Sara: And it was like; the guy is a dick. Juli Bauer: Did you see Ari’s season last season. Single Sara: No. I literally stopped watching after that. Because it was like; this show is fake. It’s not real. {laughs} Juli Bauer: 100% not real. So this year it went down to a guy in, I don’t know, Iowa or something. And then a guy from here, from Bailey, Colorado. But he lives here in Denver. Maddie, from the gym. She works out with him in Orange Theory all the time. So she was seeing him. Single Sara: Not what’s his name who was with Lauren? Juli Bauer: Who? Single Sara: Ben. Juli Bauer: No, not Ben. So this guy, he made it to the end. Becca picks the guy from Iowa. I don’t think he’s from Iowa, but I don’t give a f*ck. He is so dumb. And he’s super, I guess, he liked all these things all over Instagram and Twitter of very racist, sexist, against transgender, about throwing immigrants back over the wall. Single Sara: Cool. Sounds like a good guy. Juli Bauer: Yeah, he’s a real winner. And after the final rose, he was like; you know, I’ve had to deal with this. There’s been a lot of backlash. It’s like; yeah, you are a racist little f*ck. Single Sara: Yeah, what was excuse. Juli Bauer: What was his excuse? I think he was like; you just like stuff on Instagram. Single Sara: {laughs} No you don’t! Juli Bauer: It’s like, that’s not how it works.

This is Juli Bauer from PaleOMG and you are listening to PaleOMG Uncensored. Juli Bauer: Hello, hello. Come here Jackson. Come here with all your slobber. Welcome to another episode of PaleOMG Uncensored. I adore you for listening. Today it’s just me. Just me, rocking solo, with my dog and a massive sunburn on my arms. I spent the last two days; day one, from 8 to 5 making cooking videos. I shot 8 cooking videos for you guys. And then, what day? On Tuesday I shot workout videos. So I’ve been working on this new project of doing workout videos with the same team that I shoot my cooking videos with, and kind of doing like a; it’s going to be called the sweat and snack series. And so I’m going to show you easy protein pack snacks that you can pack with you, or keep with you in the fridge so you have something after your workout. So I’m going to walk you through a workout you can do anywhere; either body weight or with just an exercise band or loop band. And then I walk you through the workout. So this was the first time I’ve ever filmed workout videos with this team, and we did it out in a park. And the thing about being in a park and not having a sound team, is there’s planes flying overhead, and children screaming, and lawnmowers coming by, and leaf blowers. And there’s just a million different things. So you have to stop, wait for the noise to subside. And then start back up. And then, you have to do those movements a million times. So I had to do jumping lunges a million times. I had to do pushups a million times. And so I’m just kind of baking in the sun as I’m just doing that one movement. And I literally did not even think about sunscreen.

It was so freaking easy. And this week, they had super delicious looking vegetarian options that made me actually want to try the vegetarian options, which is obviously not like me. But they had a chickpea paella and portobello burgers that looked so freaking good. And I may think about trying the vegetarian option. But I don’t know guys; I don’t know. Power Quotes From The Show "Human connection is the remedy but the first step is to discover an authentic connection to yourself. It's about who you are at the core; not who you think you are or pretend to be but unapologetically who you are at the core." - @CookingCaveman http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "Talking, in general, is the most underutilized and important facet of any healing. I don't care if it's with a therapist, a mirror, or your dog. How do you neutralize fault, shame, blame, and guilt? It's really, really simple. Those emotions only have power over you as long as you allow them to stay your head." - George Bryant "There's this illusion that once you've done the work, you can let go of everything but that's not true at all. You learn how to coexist with the feeling to the point of where it's no longer toxic but neutral. As I go through my life and have all of these experiences, every one of these experiences is like a new neighbor moving into my neighborhood. The truth is that I really hate some of those neighbors and when I resist them, they resist back stronger. When I can love my neighbors by simply acknowledging their existence, they become neutral and I can choose not to listen to them or give them power for just 30 seconds before I take it back. It's a daily practice." - George Bryant "If there are any thoughts that we have in our brain, mind, or being that are taking up real estate or affecting an emotion that's anything but neutral, that only reason that it's capable of doing that is because there's only one person that knows that it's even happening and that's us. These thoughts keep us disconnected, in self-sabotage mode, and we stop ourselves from telling anybody because we want to be right about our stories and it's uncomfortable to go to the other side. However, the moment you can take a thought and speak it into the universe, it neutralizes the charge because it's no longer just yours; now it's everybody's." - George Bryant Links From Today's Show George Bryant LinkedIn Facebook Twitter Civilized Caveman Facebook Instagram YouTube The Paleo Kitchen by George Bryant and Juli Bauer Civilized Caveman Lifestyle Facebook Group George Bryant aka Civilized Caveman on Bacon and Have We Gone Too Far? This is Juli Bauer from PaleOMG and you are listening to PaleOMG Uncensored. Juli Bauer: Hello, happy Saturday. Or whatever day you're listening to this. You're listening to another episode of PaleOMG Uncensored. And guess what? I’m by myself again. Womp. Womp. Why does everybody have to have a life, and can’t just chat with me all day every day? And come hang out in my living room, in my pajamas? Just kidding. I’m wearing real clothes. Real clothes meaning workout clothes. And workout clothes meaning no bra. But you know, I put on some makeup today. It’s been a weird week. It’s been such a weird week. Of not that much sleep. A lot of sh*t to do. And PMSing on top of it. So I have major anxiety. I just kind of get anxiety when I’m PMSing. And then usually get mad at my husband for not a huge reason. Reason enough, you know. Reason enough. But then he can’t make up for it with dessert like he usually can, because I’m trying to get my life back on track after traveling so much and gaining about 10 pounds. I’ve got to reel it in. We talked about that last week on the podcast. I’ve really reeled it in. Alcohol is just the worst. I wanted this margarita so bad the other day because it had orange juice in it, and habanero, and those two things together with tequila are just quite lovely. I miss the days when I did not like alcohol as much, but you know your tastes change, and you have a few good cocktails and you're like; oh, motherf*ck. I didn’t know cocktails tasted this good. And then you're stuck having multiple trying to get that same one cocktail you had that blew your mind. And nothing ever lives up to it. But you keep trying, and you keep drinking. It’s a downward spiral. Just kidding. I’ll have usually one or two drinks. But, that one or two drinks. I was sitting with my girlfriend the other night and we were talking about weight loss.
Today on the podcast, I'm sharing how I've finally gotten to a place in my life where I can get back on track after a week of indulging without feeling guilty about those choices I made on vacation. It's a really freeing feeling. ____________ Big thank you to this week’s sponsors! Sun Basket delivers organic, sustainable ingredients and delicious recipes weekly to your doorstep! Sun Basket makes eating fresh and delicious meals every single night easier than ever. With Sun Basket, you can have a healthy meal on the table in under 30 minutes. There’s no compromising with your own health goals when you have easy to cook meals that are delivered right to your door step. With Sun Basket, they deliver organic and clean ingredients with 18 healthy options to choose from every single week. They work with the best farms and suppliers to bring you fresh and organic produce, and responsibly raised meats and seafood. And everything is premeasured and easy to prep. Everything I’ve made for myself has taken under 30 minutes, and clean up is a breeze because everything comes in these little tiny containers that you can just recycle away. I get the paleo option from Sun Basket, but they also have gluten free, lean and clean, vegan, Mediterranean, family options, and more to suit anyone’s lifestyle. This week, in my own Sun Basket box, I tried the TexMex Turkey Skillet, with green chilies and avocado, and then the one-pan salmon with creamy citrus dressing and stone fruit snap pea salad. They were both so good, and even though both of those are a mouthful, they still took under 30 minutes, and cleanup was so easy. I love cooking these meals, because even though I cook all the time at home, this gives me inspiration in my own kitchen, and reminds me of some of the fruit and veggies that I forget to pick up at the store, because maybe I just don’t think they’re my favorite. And then I try one of Sun Basket meals, and I’m reminded that all fruits and vegetables are so good. Except for eggplant. Eggplant is gross. {laughs} But don’t let your busy summer get in the way of your healthy goals. Sun Basket is so convenient, and they will make eating healthy in your own household easier than ever. All you have to do is go to SunBasket.com/PaleOMG today. You can learn more there, and get $35 off your first order. This is Juli Bauer from PaleOMG and you are listening to PaleOMG Uncensored. Juli Bauer: Blah! This podcast is being a real son of a B. Carra Roth: Son of a B. Juli Bauer: Son of a B. Luckily, Carra has something to tell the group today. Carra Roth: I got a job? Juli Bauer: Yes! Carra Roth: Yay! Juli Bauer: Congratulations. Carra Roth: Thanks. Juli Bauer: This podcast will forever be boring again. Carra Roth: Aww. Sad! Juli Bauer: Aww! Now I have to record by myself all again. Carra Roth: {laughs} Sorry. Or you could do it on my off hours. Juli Bauer: When is that? Saturday/Sunday? Carra Roth: Yeah. {laughs} Or evenings. Juli Bauer: Yeah. So, you don’t have. Carra Roth: Nights and weekends. Juli Bauer: Yeah. So let’s do; Sundays are cut off from your outside world. You have to only work with me. Carra Roth: {laughs} Yeah. I’ll help you. Juli Bauer: I’ll pay you. Carra Roth: I’m in! Juli Bauer: Ok. Welcome to another episode of PaleOMG Uncensored. Sorry if the audio sounds weird. I mean, it sounds weird every week because I record with my computer. Not even a microphone. This is straight up computer. We had a microphone glitch error; meaning it won’t work and I can’t figure it out until… Carra Roth: Technical difficulties. Juli Bauer: Yeah. So I almost threw the computer at the wall. Look at Michael on the screen right now. So before we started recording for a hot second, and then the computer stopped. And I was telling a story about wearing my new leggings. I’m wearing a blue outfit. It’s a blue kind of day. Like, it’s down in the dumps. It’s kind of sh*tty outside. Carra Roth: Yeah, but that’s a bright blue to brighten it up. Juli Bauer: Yeah. Super fun blue. And this new kid who is like 22 years old. He just started coaching. And he has a Young Life bumper sticker. And I’ve already spoke my truth about bumper stickers. They’re the worst. Carra Roth: {laughs} Juli Bauer: So you know you can’t trust him. Carra Roth: Do most people know what Young Life is? Juli Bauer: I don’t know. Carra Roth: Like, church groups. Juli Bauer: I feel like most people do, but maybe that’s just a Colorado thing. I don’t know. Carra Roth: Yeah, I don’t know. Juli Bauer: Like, ok. Did you ever watch the wild, wild country on Netflix? Carra Roth: I don’t think so. Juli Bauer: So it was where this cult took over this area in Oregon. Carra Roth: OK, yeah, yeah, yeah. I watched half of the first episode. {laughs} Juli Bauer: Yes. So, after they got kicked out, or they left, and left this huge area of land, Young Life took over. So it was like; it went from the crazy cult like people who were having sex in all corners of this area they took over, to Young Life, where you don’t have sex at all. {laughs} Carra Roth: Ok. Juli Bauer: Sex until marriage. I think Young Life is like; don’t have sex until marriage style. Carra Roth: So they’re meeting up weekly? Juli Bauer: So the Young Life group I tried to be part of when I was a teenager. Carra Roth: {laughs} Juli Bauer: But did not fit in. Carra Roth: Because of your teenage angst, or what? Juli Bauer: No, because I'm not religious whatsoever.

We have a listener questions episode, because I haven’t done one in a while. And Carra is going to read off the questions. I’m going to answer them. Well; a lady brought our golf magazine. Carra Roth: I for sure would have thrown that away. Juli Bauer: Yeah, god bless her. This lady just brought our mail from like 2 blocks down. I would have thrown that sh*t away. Carra Roth: Yeah. She was easily 80 years old. Juli Bauer: Yeah. Carra Roth: She’s like; I’m walking from two blocks away. Juli Bauer: Yeah, that woman was very kind. Carra Roth: I got a magazine from somebody on two floors below me and I legit threw it away. Juli Bauer: Yeah, no way! Carra Roth: Sorry guy. Juli Bauer: So anyway. Carra is going to ask questions, I’m going to read answers. I leave out of town tomorrow, again. Goddammit. I have to go to another f*cking airport. Carra Roth: Without me this time. Rhymes with mom tier. Carra Roth: {laughs} Juli Bauer: Anyway. So I leave out of town tomorrow, and of course, as soon as I’m about to leave out of town, Jackson decides to go f*cking AWOL. He was puking all last night on our white rug. Rest in peace, white rug. You are going in the trash this Friday. And then, I left him alone for a good 4 hours today, and he puked all over our couch, all over our rug. That’s about it. No wood floors in site have been puked on. Carra Roth: At least it’s just throw up and not like throw up and diarrhea. Juli Bauer: For real. That’s the mom life I’m not prepared to live. So he is going to the emergency vet. Since it’s an emergency and they’re not getting us in. So he’s going in an hour and a half, so we’re fitting this podcast in.

This is Juli Bauer from PaleOMG and you are listening to PaleOMG Uncensored. Juli Bauer: Hello, good morning. I’m saying hello to you from Houston, Texas. I’m sitting in my hotel room right now, on the bed, looking out at downtown Houston. I’m staying at Le Meridien. Which has been lovely. It’s so modern, and they have super cool artwork all over the place. The only thing I have to complain about is you have to pay for Wi-Fi. Why do hotels do that? I’m sure there’s a great reason behind it that I will never understand, nor care to. Because I’m paying like $35 in Wi-Fi fees. No joke. Isn’t that bananas? Plus, I always buy internet on flights. And United Wi-Fi is pretty expensive. It’s like $15 for your flight, if not more. That’s a lot of Wi-Fi fees. But you’ve got to get that work done. You can’t not have Wi-Fi. My job is literally Wi-Fi. Anyway. That’s such an annoying thing to complain about, right? I’m the worst. But, it’s like the 21st century. Isn’t there Wi-Fi everywhere? Shouldn’t we just have Wi-Fi as we’re walking down the street? Can’t you put Wi-Fi into my flight price? I guess not everybody uses the Wi-Fi? But, just plug it into everybody’s. Everybody would. Right? I don’t know. Maybe I’m just a b*tch. So, being here in Houston. In Denver, it’s dry as f*ck all the time. Your face is just painfully dry. Your lips are dry. Everything is just awful and dry. And so you age faster. It’s quite annoying. But, here in Houston, in Texas, everywhere in Texas, it is humid as f*ck. And what’s funny is right now it’s not even humid. It’s been like 90-95 degrees, and not that humid based on the news I’ve been watching here. They’re like; don’t worry, the humidity is coming. I’m like; what do you mean the humidity is coming? Literally,

Listener Questions: Miscellaneous [1:13:20] Juli Bauer: Welcome to another episode of PaleOMG Uncensored. We are at episode 72. And I finally know for a fact, because I actually looked ahead of time. First time ever. Only took me 72 tries to know what episode we’re on. Welcome back. I’m glad you're here. At the moment, I’m in shorts. Wrapped in a towel on the couch. Because I just got a spray tan, and it’s very sticky. And this kind of spray tan is the one you keep on for a certain amount of time depending how tan you want to be. And I want to tan as f*ck. So I’m keeping it on for four solid hours. So I have to sit, wrapped in a towel, for four solid hours. And I just met with this guy this morning about working on my body, kind of chiropractic stuff. And he was like; you can’t just sit on the couch all day every day. And that’s where I work on my computer, is on the couch. And I’m literally; literally we just had this talk this morning, and I’m on the couch with my shoulders hunched forward. I’ve got to get my sh*t together. He’s like, “You’ve never gone and seen somebody in the 7-8 years you’ve been working out?” I’m like, not really. Not consistently. I got sh*t to f*cking do. I don’t have time to go sit in an office for an hour. And office-like space. Whatever. I’m going to take care of my body. I’ll be talking about that in the future. But, until then, happy Valentine’s Day week. We’re at the end of Valentine’s Day week here. And I, while you're listening to this, will be in Phoenix. My husband and I are going on a little weekend getaway. I’m working with the tourism board to promote Phoenix, and a really cool hotel that I’m staying at, and some different spa things, and things to do with your luva. So I’ll be going there soon. Which is really fun. It’s so nice to be able to get away with my boo. And apologies if you hear Jackson in the background chewing his bone. As soon as I hit record, he decided he needed to make out with a bone. And he’s f*cking going ham right next to me. So apologies ahead of time. Anyway. We did not do anything for Valentine’s Day. My husband was like; “Just to clarify, do we have plans on Valentine’s Day? Because I scheduled a haircut, but I can totally cancel.” {laughs} I’m like, no. Get your f*cking haircut. You need a haircut. So I’m very supportive of that. Trim up your beard while you're at it. He did. I’m just not a beard guy. Not a big beard guy. If you listen to Kaitlyn Bristow, I stole that from her. Not the beard part, but the guy part. I’m just not a big beard guy. I think they’re gross. You can have a little bit of fuzz. Not fuzz, because hopefully you're older than 15 if I’m attracted to you. But you can have a little bit of some man scape type things going on. But then you get the full-on beard. And I think I’ve talked about this on my podcast before. Because my husband did November,
Earlier on the week on instagram, I mentioned how I dealt with hormone issues from overexercising and I had a handful of people ask if I could elaborate on that more. So I'm breaking down the issues I ran into when I was overexercising, undereating, and putting my body through constant stress by hating myself. It's amazing what stress can do to the body if you aren't paying attention. I'm breaking down how I fixed those issues and healed my body. ____________ Big thank you to this week’s sponsor! I’m here on the couch in between life, just got a butt workout in. Shoveled my face with food. Got some emails done. Walked the dog. Almost froze to death. It’s not even that cold, but it feels like it’s 1 degree out. I am such a b*tch when it comes to cold weather. I just hate it so much now. It’s so uncomfortable. I just could not live in a rainy place, and I don’t know why I still live in a snowy place. It’s supposed to snow tomorrow. I think we wake up to snow. Which is so incredibly sad. But at the same time; it’s 40 degrees out and I’m complaining how f*cking cold it is. My brother-in-law and mother-in-law, they’ve been in Nebraska. And it’s been insanely cold in Nebraska. And then the East Coast is getting slammed. So I don’t know why I complain, or why I’m talking about the weather. I just don’t know. What have I been doing lately? Guess what? This is what I’ve been doing. I am coming out with new leggings! And I’m so pumped about it. My first pair of leggings launched in November. And they were shipped out in December and January. And we learned so much from that first pair of leggings. I took everyone’s feedback that I heard back from. And these new leggings are new, and improved. They’re thicker material. They hug the butt really nicely. Something in my first pair of leggings I did white underneath, because it was the base color of the flowers. So you have to go with the base layer of what that color is and then build from there. So there was a white flower, and the leggings were blue. But the problem with that is the white shows through when you move. So it looked like some were see-through. And then some people had issues with things showin...

Welcome to; let’s see. We are on episode 69. The exact temperature I like to keep my house. 70 is too hot at night. 68 is too f*cking cold. 69 is where it’s at. You can make all the sex jokes you want, but they’re not really that funny. So how’s it going? Right now, I’m on the couch. I’m looking at the dog, who has completely made a next on the top of the couch cushion. So I’ll be sitting. So my left side is up against the couch cushions. Like my feet are laid out. We have an L-style couch. So my left arm is digging into this couch cushion. And every since Jackson, months ago, decided to make this his new favorite spot, I have shoulder issues, because the couch cushion presses into my shoulder, puts me in a weird position. And I feel like everybody is always like; oh, CrossFit causes injuries. No, it’s my couch cushion that causes injuries. Which are enhanced by physical activity. That has nothing to do with this podcast. I feel like this podcast is going to be a hodgepodge of information. Which I guess it usually is. I feel like I’ve wanted to do more interviews, but number one I have not had time. Number two, I don’t know who I want to record. I want to record with my friend, Jennifer, from Predominantly Paleo. Because she’s adorable. But I want to go outside of paleo and into other places. But I just can’t think of who I want that to be. I don’t know. I don’t know. Before we get talking about the important things, like Crested Butte. Which was a beaut. It really was a beaut. Obsessed. I want to talk about the Bachelor going on right now. And of course, you can skip this part. But you shouldn’t. Because the Bachelor is here, and it’s here to stay. I was listening to a podcast the other day. I was listening to Barbell Shrugged podcast. Because it had Brett Contreras. I think I said his name right. The glute guy on Instagram who I just started following, because a bunch of people recommended him for butt workouts. So I started following this guy, and I listened to his podcast episode on Barbell Shrugged. They were kind of talking about CrossFit. And he said something along the lines of; he hates that when his clients talk sh*t about CrossFit. Because he’s like; where do you think it’s going to go? Do you think you're just going to talk sh*t about it and it’s going to disappear? It is here to stay. And just so you know, Bachelor is here to stay. And you can hate it, because that’s 100% fair. And you're right. But you might as well just accept it. My husband tried to accept it this past week. He found out that my sister-in-law and I just make fun of it the whole time we watch it. He was like; oh, I didn’t know you made fun of it. I’ll watch it. I thought it was serious. I’m like, of course it’s not serious. Obviously, you haven’t read my blog in at least four years, you motherf*cker. But I do recaps every Tuesday on the blog. And it’s the best part of our week. We get to talk sh*t. But I am a week behind on the blog, because I was in Mexico the first week it aired.
For those paleo fans our there no introduction is needed. But this week we have Juli Bauer from PaleOMG. She has released many cook books and paleo centered material along with her blog. We talk about the journey of pre-paleo diet, supplements and everything that didn't work. We also get into training, how to change your diet in an unsupportive environment and lots of other tips and tricks to help turn your diet around.

Listener questions: Food [5:54] 2. Listener questions: Fitness [21:23] 3. Listener questions: Beauty [47:42] 4. Listener questions: Random [54.51] Juli Bauer: Well howdy. Welcome to another episode of PaleOMG Uncensored. I think we’re at episode 68. Going strong. I’m only saying this because I just now thought of it, because I was just recently listening to another podcast who talked about it; and I just never talk about this. And I should ask more often. I’m going to simply ask you if you like this podcast, to rate and review and make sure to subscribe. And if you don’t like this podcast, please still leave a 5-star review. Is that rude? Is that needy? I don’t know. I hear it’s important. And who knows how podcasts will change over time. But if you like this podcast and you listen to it weekly, or you're just coming into it and you like it, just leave a nice review. Don’t put negativity out in the world, because negative people suck big balls! But if you feel like being positive. I’m going to stop. It’s so annoying. I shouldn’t have even started with that. Erase. Go back. No thanks. Let’s just talk about life instead. I am gearing up to go to Crested Butte tomorrow. Which is like 4.5 hours from Denver, or so, depending on the weather. I really should check the weather. Since I’m leaving tomorrow and still haven’t packed. But I needed to shoot some photos in the mountains, and so I just decided to make a whole trip of it, and take my sister-in-law, who helps me with photos a lot. Take her. And make a whole weekend. And then do a blog post about Crested Butte. So go do something fun in town. Go to a bunch of restaurants. Because what else do you do when you travel? People are like; what did you do while you were in town? I ate, you dummy. What else do you do when you're traveling? I don’t care about anything else. I care about a craft cocktail and food. Period. But we’re staying at a hotel up there. It should be fun. So my husband and I are supposed to have a date night tonight before I leave. I leave him back at home. But I still haven’t even packed. I’ve got sh*t to do, man! Damn. Right now I have a dog on my lap. Who is on a diet. We went to the vet just the other day, and he should be around 38 pounds, and he is 41. And the vet said she wanted him at 38. So it’s pretty devastating. Because I’m very much a one for me, one for you kind of person. I like sharing food. I like how excited he gets about food, because I feel the exact same way. But, he’s been snoring a little bit more, and that could have to do with him being slightly overweight. So he’s on a diet. It’s so sad. We cut his food down by half. And it is not a one for me one for you situation right now. That’s sad. But it’s ok, we’ll get through it together. So anyway. Thanks so much for listening. Oh my god, I just noticed my couch cushions are upside down. How humiliating! What a mess. Anywhoo. I wanted to do another listener question episode.

I’m on the couch in a position that’s going to put my back into pain later on, with a dog who is sitting between my legs near my calves. Dead asleep snoring at times, so you’ll hear that, per usual. Just getting back to the gist. Getting back to normal here in Colorado. I just landed. I need to take a sip of water. I just landed in Colorado from Cabo yesterday. So, that’s my first time in Cabo, and I have to say, it is amazing. Cabo is freaking awesome. I get why people travel there all the time. Because it’s freaking awesome. And I always hear people say; oh, Cabo is so Americanized. It’s so touristy now. But number one; I did not get sick in Cabo. And number two, I found f*cking awesome brands, like Eating Evolved, and Artisana, and some of my favorite paleo brands, I was able to find in Cabo. So I think that was great. So just backtrack for a second, in case you didn’t listen to one of my recent podcasts. I went to Tulum three weeks ago. I was in Tulum for my best friend’s 30th birthday, and I got incredibly bad food poisoning. The worst pain I’ve ever been in. And this is coming from a person who is allergic to gluten and grew up in a hospital because I was in so much physical in. This was the worst pain. It was f*cking awful. It was so awful. So I was very nervous about going to Cabo back to back, after I had just gotten better from that terrible experience. Turns out, Cabo was a totally different experience. So here’s a little info about our trip.

It’s Juli from PaleOMG Uncensored. This is the podcast. Welcome to another episode. Today I will not be talking by myself and yawning 400 times, because I’m not getting any oxygen in. Because today, I will be talking to the lovely Diane Sanfilippo. The author extraordinaire. Blogger, podcaster. She really does it all. So welcome, Diane. Thank you so much for coming on today. Diane Sanfilippo: Thanks for having me. I’m excited to chat with you. I feel like you’ve been on our podcast a few times, but for whatever reason, Liz always gets to chat with you. And I’m like; wait, what about me? {laughs} Juli Bauer: I know. I know. Actually I was just talking to Liz. Because; I forget, last time I was on there. But I was talking to Liz just a couple of weeks ago, and she’s like; we need to have you back on the podcast. Diane Sanfilippo: Yeah. Juli Bauer: So we need to make it a threesome. Diane Sanfilippo: I know. We just; our technology has not been amazing lately. We’ll figure it out and we’ll make sure that we all get on that show. That will be fun. Juli Bauer: Yes. Well, today I’m having you on to talk about your new book, the 21-Day Sugar Detox Daily Guide. But before we get into that, I just want, for people who maybe have never heard of you or don’t really know your backstory. Will you kind of tell people how you came into paleo, how you got it started? Because you were one of the first people I found when I started paleo about 7 years ago. And I found www.BalancedBites.com, and I remember trying a couple of your recipes. And you had really great photos compared to everyone on the internet. Diane Sanfilippo: {laughs} Juli Bauer: Who was taking photos with their phone. Which, you may have been doing that too, but you were doing it well. Diane Sanfilippo: Yeah. Juli Bauer: So it was so nice to find such an easy, beautiful blog to search back in the day. So can you just tell a little bit about your story. When you started paleo; the whole gist of it. In a shortened version, obviously. Diane Sanfilippo: Yeah. {laughs} I’ll try and be as brief as I can. For those who heard us just chatting about my podcast, Balanced Bites podcast is the show. So if you’re like; I want to hear more about this, whatever I’m talking about, go over there. Because I’m going to try and keep it brief. So I started learning about holistic nutrition from my own personal trainer, probably back in 2007, 2006. A really, really long time ago. That was the whole gluten free, dairy free, soy free, what is gluten back then. And eventually got into studying nutrition. Because I was super interested in it. I remember learning that we could prevent disease and just be healthier overall. It was basically like, before that all I knew was that you could not smoke, and kind of exercise and “eat well”.

Thankfully, because I hate it. It’s really sad for me to say that. Because while I was gone in Mexico, I went to Tulum for my best friend’s 30th birthday vacation. And I came home last week, on Tuesday, and my husband had already left out of town on Monday. So I came home; he was out of town. And I came home to the house decorated. Because we were both out of town every day. And he decorated the house. He pulled the Christmas decorations out. He got a tree. He decorated the tree. It was so cute. So I get home at night. I have to leave the next day. And then I’m gone for three days. I come back, and the Christmas tree is on the floor. She fell over. So luckily my sister-in-law was here, so she helps me put the tree back up. She peaces out. An hour later, I’m lying on the couch; the tree falls over again. So I after I cleaned this up twice, I was completely over it. Especially because my husband was still out of town and I had to clean it up. I told him this whole real Christmas tree life is over. We’re getting a fake Christmas tree. Then this fake Christmas tree can already be lit up, already look beautiful, and we don’t have to worry about watering it. We don’t have to worry about it shedding on the floor. We don’t have to worry about throwing it out the day after Christmas. Maybe the day of Christmas; let’s clean up early here. We don’t have to worry about it. That’s what I want. And I think he’s into it now. I think I’ve talked him into it. Because, I’m looking at the floor right now. And there’s sh*t everywhere. There’s sh*t everywhere. I’m just so not into it. Speaking of not being into things; let’s talk about Mexico. Because Mexico was a complete disaster. Sad to say it. So my girlfriend, who it was her 30th birthday. She found a house in Tulum. It looked like a super cute house. And I didn’t know anything about Tulum before I went there, other than what people told me of restaurant recommendations. So we get to our place,

Welcome to another episode of PaleOMG Uncensored. I am Juli Bauer Roth, and thank you guys so much for listening. Today I have a very special guest. I’m so excited to have her on. I’ve been doing all this research finding out all the different things that Lisa Bilyeu is doing. So, thank you Lisa, for being on my podcast! Lisa Bilyeu: Oh, Juli, thank you so much for having me on. I’m super excited! Juli Bauer: It’s so cool. I first heard about you on Girls Gone WOD with Joy and Clare, and started looking you up then. And then got in contact with you. So it’s so cool to have you on, because I loved listening to you with Joy and Clare. You just have this beautiful voice that’s just dreamy to listen to. Lisa Bilyeu: {laughs} Juli Bauer: So where are you from, originally? Lisa Bilyeu: I’m from England. I was going to say, I think the accent fools people on the voice! {laughs} Juli Bauer: Yes, it’s just so pretty. {laughs} Lisa Bilyeu: Thank you! I’m from England. I’ve been living in the States for 15 years full time, and almost 17 years. But my husband loves the accent so much, that I’ve done everything I can to keep it! {laughs} Juli Bauer: Seriously. What brought you to the states? Lisa Bilyeu: I actually came over for a film making course. And it was a summer just program. I was only supposed to be here for two months. Day one, I walk into the film school, and there stands this very sexy, hot American guy. He asks me on a date about a month later. And both of us thought; this is going to be so much fun. For me, it’s a story to go back to England and tell all my friends that I had this summer fling with this really hot American guy. Juli Bauer: {laughs} Lisa Bilyeu: He just came out of a relationship where the girl went a little crazy, so he’s like; this is fantastic. She has to leave the country; she’s obligated to. I don’t have to worry about her going crazy. And I think it was kind of that mentality of both of us thinking we don’t have to put on any pretenses that when we went on our first date, it was literally like lightening and we spent every single moment after that together.

One of the first blogs I ever read was How Sweet Eats. I had no idea how wonderful a blog could be until I read hers. Jessica creates some of the most creative, stunning and decadent recipes you will ever see. Her creativity is unlike any of the other blogs I read. So getting to chat with her and hear her story was pretty damn fun! Juli Bauer: Welcome to another episode of PaleOMG Uncensored. Today I have a very special guest, who is one of the first bloggers I literally ever looked at online to actually figure out what the hell a blog was. Her name is Jessica Merchant; am I saying that right? Merchant? Jessica Merchant: {laughs} You are. Juli Bauer: OK. Of HowSweetEats.com. She is a blogger extraordinaire; seriously. You’ve had this blog for so long. I remember, I think a few of my recipes I made were based off some of the concoctions you made. Like, using blood orange on top of fish. Which, I didn’t even know what a blood orange was when I started cooking! Jessica Merchant: Oh, that’s so awesome. I love that. Juli Bauer: You introduced me to new food groups before I knew even how to shop at the grocery store. So your blog has seriously been around for so long. And I’ve been looking at it. And I still look at it to this day, whenever I need some inspiration for photography. Because you are one of my favorite food photographers out there. Jessica Merchant: Thank you so much. Juli Bauer: But we’re going to get into all of that. So welcome. Thank you so much for coming on the podcast! Jessica Merchant: Thank you so much for having me! I’m so excited. Juli Bauer: Me too! Ok, so for people who don’t know who you are, will you tell us just a little bit about yourself? What you did before you were a full-time blogger. Why you got into blogging. Really just kind of your journey into blogging and where you are now. Jessica Merchant: Sure. So, I run the blog HowSweetEats.com. And I’ve been doing it; I believe I just had my 8-year blog-iversary. I mean; I sound like such a loser saying that. But it’s a thing, apparently. So 8 years. I’ve been doing it for 8 years. I found myself stuck in a job that I just absolutely hated. I knew from the time that I was a young kind that going to an office was not something I ever wanted to do. Ever. I think even in my 8th grade year book I wrote, “I want to be a writer.” Or something. I knew that I never wanted to sit in this corporate office setting. But that’s kind of where I found myself.

Welcome to another episode of PaleOMG Uncensored. I am your host tonight, and every other night. My name is Juli Bauer Roth, and I am the writer and creator of www.PaleOMG.com. Isn’t this such a fun, dramatic intro today? You know, I feel like I should introduce myself at some point in this podcast. And since we’re at episode, I don’t know, 60? 61? I don’t f*cking know. I thought I should introduce myself, you know? As I record this on my phone in the voice memos section of my phone; super fancy. I am in a king size bed in the St Julian Hotel in Boulder. Not half bad. I was planning to record this podcast yesterday on a Sunday. And you know what happened? I got hella wasted. And if you’ve listened to any of these podcasts before, you know I’m not a huge drinker. I’m a one cocktail kind of person; maybe two if I’m really feeling crazy that night. But multiple cocktails; no. But here’s the thing. It was 90s night at Ophelia’s in Denver, which is a great restaurant. And I went to 90s night last year, and it was pretty much the best night ever. And they played all the straight hits. Brittany Spears, N’Sync, Backstreet Boys, Chumbawumba. All my god. All 90s. You knew all the words. So, I was very on the 90s train when I found out they had another 90s night planned. And last time, I don’t think I even drank. I think I had one drink and then I stayed on the dance floor the whole rest of the time. But this time around I brought one of my girlfriends, who didn’t know this other group of girls. And she, of course, was probably nervous. Because you're going into a whole group of people you don’t know. So we had cocktails together beforehand. And then she would go get two cocktails, and then I would get two cocktails. And then she was getting doubles so we didn’t have to go back to the bar. And it was just; it was a sh*t show. This time around, they played a little bit more like Nirvana; no thank you. That’s not why I go to 90s night. I’m not trying to listen to Nirvana. I’m trying to listen to Brittany Spears, you dick. But you know what? I made the best of it. And I danced so hard. I just got a Fitbit, so I’ve been seeing how many steps I usually take. And on a day that I don’t workout, it’s probably like 10,000 to 12,000.
Today on the podcast, I'm talking to Miguel and Veronica of Siete Foods. If you haven't tried their grain-free tortillas and tortilla chips, it's time to have your life changed. No one else makes tortillas and tortilla chips like them and it has been amazing to see their company grow from the very beginning. This family is proving that hard work and dedication really does pay off. I'm so lucky to call these amazing people my friends and I hope their story inspires you to chase your own dreams! ____________ Support the podcast by clicking the Subscribe button on iTunes and please a review only if you love the podcast! Welcome to another episode of PaleOMG Uncensored. Today is a very special day, because I have on not only some of my close friends now, but a very cool business that has entered into the paleo world and now the entire world. Today, I have Miguel and Veronica of Siete Foods, here to chat all about their business. Thank you guys so much for coming on! Miguel: Thank you! Veronica: Thanks for having us on. Juli Bauer: Are you guys in your sound studio you have at the office? Veronica: {laughs} Miguel: I wish we were, but we’re actually; one of our employees wasn’t feeling well so he quarantined himself in there. So we’re actually in our gym. Juli Bauer: Oh that’s hilarious. Quarantined himself; like, go home. Why doesn’t he just go home? Veronica: Exactly. We didn’t have any Lysol to clean the room up. Miguel: It’s because, you know, he’s committed to being around. Juli Bauer: Jeeze, that’s a big commitment. Veronica: Should we call him out on the podcast? Miguel: {laughs} Veronica: {laughs} Juli Bauer: Yeah. Like, you have a sound room for pretty much the purpose of recording a podcast with me once a year. Veronica: I know! Juli Bauer: Ok. So for the people who don’t know about Siete, which I feel like the whole world knows about it now. Can you guys give a little background about Siete foods, how you guys started this business, what you guys have to offer, what kind of products you're producing. Pretty much the background about you guys. Veronica: Sure. Siete has been around since 2014. We really got our start out of a necessity. I was dealing with multiple autoimmune conditions for many years. I was diagnosed with something called ITP, which basically means low platelet counts, when I was 17 years old. And it just kind of grew from there. Then I was diagnosed with lupus. Years later diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. So just dealing with all of that stuff for many years. Medications and doctors wanting to take out my spleen. In 2009, this was around the time when CrossFit was becoming pretty well known. People were starting to follow paleo diets. My brother, my older brother Rob, had done some research. He was really concerned for my health. And he was reading a lot of people online were saying that they felt better when following a grain-free, paleo type of diet. People dealing with autoimmune conditions. So I decided to give that a try on his suggestion. And when I started following that diet, it kind of worked out where my whole family sort of jumped on board with me. There are 7 of us in my family, so myself, my parents, and all of my siblings, we were eating grain free. And we grew up in Laredo, Texas, which is right on the border with Mexico. We’re Mexican-American. So things like tortillas were part of our diet every day growing up.
Today on the podcast, I'm talking to the lovely and hilarious Sarah from Broma Bakery. Sarah has some of the most stunning food photos out there so she's telling me where she gets her inspiration from, how she comes up with new recipes, and what projects she's working on nowadays. Sarah will not only wow you with her creativity, but she will keep you laughing on her instagram stories! ____________ Support the podcast by clicking the Subscribe button on iTunes and please a review only if you love the podcast! Juli Bauer: Hello everyone. Welcome to another episode of PaleOMG Uncensored. You’re very lucky, today. Because I’m not just talking to myself for an hour. I actually have a lovely guest. Her name is Sarah Fennel, and she is the creator of Broma Bakery. Did I say that correctly? Broma? I was going to ask you before. Sarah Fennel: Yeah, you did. Juli Bauer: Ok good! {laughs} I’m like, what if it’s supposed to be pronounced a different way. I suck at pronunciation. Sarah Fennel: Oh no, I get it all the time. Juli Bauer: Ok. Sarah Fennel: Hi! Juli Bauer: Hello! Sarah Fennel: Thank you so much for having me! Juli Bauer: I’m so excited to have you on! I found out about you through Monique of Ambitious Kitchen. This was two years ago, probably. We were at an event together in San Francisco, and I was just complimenting her on her photography. And she mentioned you. She said she learned it all from you, and you're such an amazing photographer. And I started following you right then and there, and have loved following you ever since. Sarah Fennel: Oh my god, thank you so much! That means a lot. I really appreciate that. Juli Bauer: What’s cool about you is you have this amazing, classy, beautiful photography and Instagram and blog. And then your Instagram stories you are 100% you, and you’re f*cking hilarious. Sarah Fennel: {laughing} Juli Bauer: You are so funny. Oh my god. And, is it your boyfriend, or husband, or life partner? Sarah Fennel: Yeah, my boyfriend. Juli Bauer: Ok, your boyfriend. He is so funny, too. You're just awesome to follow. Sarah Fennel: Oh my god, thank you. Well yeah, I really like being able to sort of less loss on stories, just because that’s how I am in real life. And I don’t want people thinking I have this amazing, glamorous, perfect life just because my photos are put together. Juli Bauer: Yeah. Like everything in your house is all white space. Sarah Fennel: Yes! {laughs} Juli Bauer: And you have like cupcakes sitting on your counter every day. Which you might. You might. Sarah Fennel: I do. Juli Bauer: Well for everyone who doesn’t know about Broma Bakery, and Sarah Fennel, will you just give a little bit about yourself. A little background. How you started your blog. Just the full synopsis of your however many years of life. {laughs} 2.26 Sarah Fennel: Yeah, absolutely. So, I started my blog in the fall of 2010. And I was a college student. I was just really feeling unmotivated and just really uncreative at school. So I wanted to give myself some sort of creative outlet. So I decided to just start photographing baked goods. My mom was a really good home baker growing up, so I basically just took a bunch of her recipes and would make two or three a week and take photos and put it up on the internet. But I was never doing it with the goal, really, of developing an audience and making this my career.
