Improved posing significantly.2024: Two shows after a 12-week cut, placed 4th in both, including the competitive Republic of Texas show.Lessons Learned & GoalsKey takeaway: Stay consistent with diet and training, no cheating if you want results.Big goal: Earn a Pro Card, grow during the offseason, and continue competing.Key Changes & Support SystemBest improvement: Followed the plan diligently, hired expert posing coaches (Lauren Dannenmiller or Bec from Posing School).Suit color: Aquamarine, perfectly complemented her skin tone.Transitioned careers from photography to vet tech.Training & NutritionCardio peaked at 2 hours/day.Follows a meal plan without focusing on calorie count for better mental adherence.MindsetFocus on enjoying the stage experience rather than obsessing over placing.Accepts the subjectivity of the sport; success requires patience and persistence.Cautions against gambling with shows or coaches—find a reliable support system.Closing MessageEmbrace the journey, celebrate progress, and remain disciplined—it's a marathon, not a sprint.Follow IG: https://www.instagram Welcome to Cupcakes & Protein Shakes, the podcast that gives you the tools and inspiration you need to achieve your fitness and wellness goals. Here is a slightly different kind of video/podcast today for Connected and Confident! If you have ever doubted yourself, or wanted to deeply challenge yourself, and you wanted to get to know yourself better and understand what you are made of… then you might really enjoy this! As some of you might know if you follow my social channels, in October 2022 I competed in the ICN Body Building Competition in the Over 50's Bikini Competition! What you won't know is that I kept a video diary for the last 3 weeks of preparation, taking you through all the trials and tribulations of getting stage ready while living a normal life and trying to keep it all together both mentally, physically, spiritually and professionally!!Believe me, there were many challenges, and I documented them all in a bid to remind myself what it might be like when I go through it all again for competition next year, but also to hopefully inspire, motivate, educate and even entertain anybody that is interested in what the journey was like for a very normal, middle-aged woman to get ready for a competition like this.PART 1 – 3 WEEKS TO GO! MY FIRST ICN BIKINI PREP OVER 50'SPART 2 – PEAK WEEK! ONLY 1 WEEK OUT FROM SHOW DAYPART 3 - ICN BIKINI OVER 50'S – SHOW DAY!Please note… I am not a world class athlete! I am very normal and decided to do this competition on a whim back when I was 49. Initially I thought I was going to run a marathon in Europe to commemorate my 50th birthday in May. I actually started training for that and quickly realised I would do more harm to my body than good running that distance (I had done a half marathon at 45, but a full marathon at 50 was just pushing it too much!)I watched a girlfriend transform her body in a body building competition and I was hooked! That would be my personal challenge. Little did I know the world was heading into Covid lockdown, that it was a whole lot more commitment and work than I could imagine, and it would challenge me in every way, from my self confidence, to self worth, setting boundaries with people so I could get to training regularly, and learning to dismiss criticism from the people closest to me, and just get on with the job and know that what I was doing was for me, and nobody else. Probably the first time in my life I had ever taken such a self-focused direction on anything! So please enjoy the series. Some of it is hard for me to watch back as I remember how difficult some days were. I was hungry, fatigued, effected by mood swings, dealing with frayed relationships, and feeling very alone at times. But it was all worth it and I can honestly say that the show day was one of the best experiences of my life.If you are thinking about doing one of these competitions, I highly recommend it. It will not be easy, but it will be an amazing journey. I highly recommend my coach, Emma Bowman from Adelaide, South Australia. And I also invite you to watch the next podcast Episode 31 – WHAT I LEARNED FROM BODY BUILDING VS BUILDING & MARKETING A BUSINESS. The similarities between the two are incredibly similar.Hope you enjoy the series, and if you do, please share with a friend or colleague that might really benefit from this information. Today we are joined by my past group coaching client, Emily H. Emily was part of behind the binge academy for 6 months starting in February 2022. When she first started, she struggled with the all-or-nothing mentality. She was big on healthy eating and macro counting, down to every gram, and working out excessively, but then would find herself on the other end of the spectrum bingeing, purging, and isolating. Can you relate? On her application for behind the binge academy, she mentioned her goals. She said she would like to break free from bingeing and obsessing over food. She wanted a balanced life without being focused on perfection. I'm so excited to share her story with you today so you can how she accomplished exactly that! From bingeing and restricting, and bikini competitions, to a balanced, healthful life of food freedom. I want to remind you that behind the binge academy is open for enrollment RIGHT NOW. The academy is my signature group coaching program following my proven framework to give you everything you need to find binge freedom. It's 3 months of group coaching and online modules that will help you rewire your binge brain, regulate your appetite, build body trust & attunement, and create a healthful life without restrictions of diet culture. Welcome to Hey Coach Radio! This episode is 3 of 5 in the contest prep series. In 2016 Kirsten had her world completely turned upside down, going through a divorce at just 26 years old, Kirsten had to grieve the life and family she had planned and start over. At her lowest point mentally and physically, suffering debilitating social anxiety and depression she decided to make some changes, she began exercising and changing her eating habits, dropping 40kgs and gaining a new found confidence. But she didn't stop there! Thriving in her newfound healthy lifestyle Kirsten then entered her first Bikini Competition and to her surprise she placed first! The evidence was building that anything she set her mind too, she could accomplish. In hopes to provide that same confidence and hope to people around her, Kirsten decided to take a risk amongst the many lockdowns in the 2020/2021 period and quit her stable 9-5 career in Real estate and pursue this passion. She became not only a fitness coach and PT but a diet coach, working one on one with clients to achieve their individual goalsWith a deep understanding of what it's like to start from scratch, have zero fitness and learning how to nourish her body in a healthy way. Kirsten has a real fire in her belly and passion for a healthy mindset and relationship with food and exercise and wants to show other women it is possible to do it without depriving yourself. Finally we discuss her recently launched social media consulting business "The Social Influence" . This week, Ciara welcomes Julia Lynn, a 64 year old athlete, who is the ultimate story of what discipline, focus, and determination can look like when you take accountability for your health. Julia shares about her health challenges in the early part of her life, including diabetes which led to multiple organ transplants and a bypass. She talks about what made her decide to take control of her own health and not let her busy schedule be an excuse. Now as Julia prepares for a bikini competition, she sets a terrific example of breaking down barriers at any age. She and Ciara also talk about listening to your body and how one specific diet is not a custom one size fits all approach for everyone. In this episode, you will learn more about: Julia was diagnosed with diabetes when she was 11 and has been through double organ transplants and a bypass. Instead of focusing on the negative, she saw this as an opportunity to take back and health and to thrive at new levels. True health is what we build every day with our nutrition, health, sleep, lifestyle, etc. There is no reason to fear aging if you are fit. How Julia took it one step at a time while in Saudi Arabia and Mexico to realize she needed to make a big change in her health.Taking care of your health is a way to honor the ones you love, so you could show up and be there for them in the deepest way. Julia is an example that lifting weights will slow down the aging process and make you toned and lean. Keto may not be right for everyone, and Julia loves feeding her body healthy carbs! Our innate intuition is so powerful, listen to your body. Big life events can make us feel like we need to push our wellness habits aside, but that is really when we need them most. Putting herself first has helped Julia feel an inner reservoir of strength and resilience. When the student is ready, the teacher appears. You have to be a vehicle for opportunities. As you change, your goals and priorities will change too. Knowing your body is a real element of getting fit, but it takes personal accountability.
