“To heal, you have to get to the root of the wound and kiss it all the way up” ~ Rupi Kaur Welcome to another episode of Exploring the Seasons of Life, a podcast for women with a big heart on a spiritual journey. My name is Cindy MacMillan. Do you ever feel like you are waiting on a permission slip to live the life you want? If you answered yes, then you are in the right spot. Each week I interview coaches and spiritual explorers, from all walks of life about beginnings, endings and the messy bits in between; and let's don't forget about those moments that we never saw coming. Self-love well-being and mindset are at the heart of our conversations. Because once you change the inside, the outside will begin to change as well. In this episode of Exploring the Seasons of Life, we are chatting about self-forgiveness and why it's so hard to forgive ourselves. And my guest is Niki Svara. With a master's degree in spiritual psychology, and over 15 years of experience working with clients, Niki Svara has the love, the listening, and the tools that enable people to create deep and powerful growth, greater self-expression, and personal healing in their lives. Niki is the founder of Love The Way You Look and the author of Piece Talks: Messages of Love from your Body and Soul. Welcome to the show, Niki. Thank you for being here. I believe it was Brendon Burchard who said, “No matter how small you start, start something that matters.” And this series, “Self-care is more than a buzzword. It's personal.” is what I am doing - because self-care matters. Throughout our conversation today we will be weaving in self-care tips. 2:23 I love the word explore; it's such a fun word. And it really it just it lifts my spirit. And so, to me, exploring the seasons of life means to get curious about them, to have a curiosity. And I'm going to say let go of resistance of those seasons. And I can tell you from my own personal experience that for a good majority of my early life, I resisted my seasons, I constantly wanted to be somewhere other than where I was, and it really wasn't a joyous and fulfilling experience. 6:25 I believe we're all in need of self-forgiveness. Because whether we realize it or not, there's always something that we're judging ourselves for. Could be something we said or didn't say, could be something we did or didn't do. We're not happy. And we're judging ourselves for where we are in life for whatever particular season, we are in. 7:50 I think, number one, is the idea of becoming willing, becoming willing to forgive ourselves, we have to have that piece because if we're not, it's just not going to work. And there are several different ways to become willing. 10:54 I wanted to add one thing, because self-forgiveness is not something I think that we think about. I know, it's not for me, so I must set reminders. I set little reminders so that I can make it a consistent practice. 14:04 Practice helps us to remember the truth of who we really are; the truth of our being. And it's like I can be put in two awareness's at one time - I'm aware of my human self and I'm aware of my spiritual self, and it's really just a fulfilling and peaceful experience. 19:32 And this was the aha moment that I came to, in an inner exploration, that love and loving somebody is not the same as being and feeling emotionally close to that person. 23:15 Or we can take a step back, pause, and really begin to choose that gentleness toward ourselves and that self-love and self-compassion. Wendy Waselle is the co-founder of Divorce This House, which helps real estate agents and mortgage lenders build their business by working with the divorce niche. After all, the riches are always in the niches. The key to working with divorce leads is working with divorce lawyers. Divorce attorneys in major cities have 30-50 ongoing clients. This referral relationship can mean serious business for agents. For instance, Wendy had one student of Divorce This House who closed 70 transactions in 10 months working with just two divorce attorneys! Wendy's fellow co-founder is a Harvard-trained lawyer, Prof. Kelly Murray, J.D.. They both have seen what does NOT work with divorce leads. And Divorce This House guides real estate professionals toward avoiding common mistakes. They also help agents approach this lucrative niche with integrity, heart, and a winning strategy. Wendy discusses how leading with greed does not work in this niche. And the importance of demonstrating to divorce lawyers that you're not looking to just sell their clients' homes. Instead, you want to help their clients preserve homeownership eligibility. By being a go-giver, Wendy walks you through how you can maintain a steady pipeline of clients.Listen to this episode if you're burned out and want a new niche or are new to real estate and are willing to put the time into studying this niche market. You'll walk away from this episode knowing how to get divorce lawyers to look at you less as a salesperson and more of a colleague they would be happy to refer. QUOTES “The problem with sleeping pills, they can be effective, but they're sedatives. So the sleep you're getting isn't natural sleep. You're not going to wake up feeling refreshed like you would if you were sleeping naturally.” [13:53] – Kelly Murray “The key to make sure that your body is producing melatonin when it should is to wake up and go to bed at the same time every day, even on the weekends...also making sure you're avoiding blue light before you go to bed for at least an hour.” [15:05] – Kelly Murray “If you take it [melatonin] long term, your body may stop producing enough naturally.” [16:55] – Kelly Murray “If you're not sleeping well, that is a red flag that there is something going on mentally or physically or both that is causing your sleep issues.” [17:57] – Kelly Murray “Whenever we are stressed, our body produces cortisol because our body thinks there is danger and it wants to have energy to flee the danger. The excessive cortisol that you're producing during the day is still going to be there at night and that can cause sleep issues. Make sure you're taking breaks throughout the day.” [20:15] – Kelly Murray If you enjoyed this episode, please spread the love! “A ruffled mind makes a restless pillow.” ~ Charlotte Brontë Guest Introduction: Welcome to Exploring the Seasons of Life, a podcast for women with a big heart on a spiritual journey. I’m your host Cindy MacMillan and I’m joined today by Kelly Murray. Each week, I interview coaches and spiritual explorers from all walks of life about beginnings, endings and the messy bits in-between. Self-love, well-being, and mindset are at the heart of our conversations because once you change the inside, the outside will begin to change as well. Hey friends, welcome back to another episode of Exploring the Seasons of Life podcast. Kelly Murray is a certified adult sleep coach and award-winning pediatric sleep consultant. She helps uber busy professionals, just like you, get the one thing that is holding you back from achieving ultimate world domination: consistent, lush, deep, sleep. Here’s a glimpse of our conversation: Welcome to the podcast Kelly. 4:55 Once I figured that out and addressed it my life completely changed. I was better rested. I had a ton more patience; I was enjoying motherhood again. And I saw the biggest change in my son, he was hitting his developmental milestones more quickly, and was just such a happier child, although he was really happy to begin with. So, I decided after that to become certified as a sleep consultant to help other moms in a similar situation. 7:31 We want to have a sleep sanctuary to sleep in and so many people do all those things, but they're still not seeing results. And to me, that's like a check engine light that's on your car. It's telling you that there's something off with your body physically. 9:33 I think there's always a mind-body component to anyone's insomnia. If they're experiencing chronic sleep issues. You know, it's normal to have a sleepless night here and there. If you're under abnormal stress, you know, say you have a tight deadline at work or you're waiting for some test results. Of course, that's going to impact your sleep. Because whenever we're stressed, our bodies produce cortisol, which is the alert hormone. And so the more cortisol you have in your system, the more alert you're going to be. And that's going to impact your sleep. So stress definitely plays a key role and insomnia. 15:33 So the first thing starts with your morning routine, I always recommend that my clients get out of their house and get outside for two to 10 minutes within an hour of waking up. Because what that does is it sends a signal to your brain that it's daytime. 19:13 And then after you take your bath or shower you do your hygiene. Then do something relaxing that you really enjoy. You know, such as reading a book or listening to a podcast or a book on tape, doing maybe some stretching, praying, meditating, and just find some time to like really unwind before you get into bed. And then don't get into bed until you're you feel like sleep is knocking you on the shoulder. Because you should feel like you're ready to fall asleep before you jump in your bed. You can find Kelly Murray at: Website Facebook Instagram If you enjoyed this conversation with Kelly Murray might also enjoy these other episodes in the Stress Awareness series for April. 4 Tips to Handling Stress in a Healthy Way with Alisha Crothers Spiritual Business Coach and the Founder of The Soul Clean Company, Jessie Chiang Gut and Hormone Nutritionist, Sheradyn Dekker Anxiety Coach and Imposter Syndrome Educator, Heather Rider Women’s Brain Health and Neuro-Nutrition with Tonya Keane Make sure to visit our website, CynthiaMacMillan.com, where you can subscribe to the show on iTunes, Stitcher, or Spotify so you’ll never miss a show. This 2019 homicide is truly messed up. Jaime was only 33 years old and had VATER Syndrome. She couldn’t even defend herself. Kelly Murray — the ex wife that seems to know more than she says. Your opinion may be different and that’s okay. You know what the most trite advice is about babies and sleep? “Honey, sleep when the baby sleeps!” It makes me think of a meme I came across on Instagram that said, “Sure. And I’ll do laundry when my baby does laundry and wash bottles when my baby washes bottles.” When the baby sleeps, that may be our only window of time to get to the umpteen things we have to do. One of the most polarizing and confusing topics for a new mom is “To sleep train or not.” There are some parents who are die-hard believers in the Ferber method and others who prefer co-sleeping, and others who fall somewhere in between. First and foremost, there is no right or wrong method. You do what is right for your baby and your family and your schedule. What I aim to provide you with is knowledge. If you’re a mom who is unsure what to do to help your baby go to sleep and sleep well, this is the episode for you. My goal is to keep things as objective as possible, (you know I am a journalist, it’s how my thinking is hardwired), so I want to present to you two different perspectives so that you come out of this more aware and self-assured on how to handle sleep when it comes to you and your baby or babies. On today’s episode, I am joined by Kelly Murray, a certified sleep consultant and Amber Price, MD, a pediatrician and breastfeeding consultant, who lives and teaches child-led parenting.
