Obviously knowing your customer is important in any business, but how can you use that knowledge in a print on demand setting? Well on this week's show Travis and Josiah spend time trying to understand the psychology of somebody who is buying a product online. What can be done to make it easier for a potential customer to actually purchase the item they're viewing in their browser? It greatly depends on the type of shopper the person is, but in your listing creation you can cater to different types of buyers if you know who they are. In the end, your conversion rate should rise as you gain knowledge about how people make buying decisions online. Plus, in this week's Point Of Interest, a major printing equipment manufacturer has finally released a DTF printer. On this week's show we decided to dive into the world of mockups. As you know, your mockup quality is directly related to your conversion rate on your print on demand products. In other words, if you don't accurately present your products with a high quality mockup, you could lose the sale. It's that important. So take a listen as we run down some of the tools we've used for years and give you the pros and cons of each. Plus, in this week's Point of Interest, Etsy is updating the way they display product images on their listing pages. Make sure you start creating your Etsy images in 1:1 ratio or you'll be limiting the size of your thumbnails on the search page. In this episode, we welcome Barbara Boden and Ann McNally into the studio to talk about data, insights, vendor relationships, and moving from insights to action. They have also created a new tool called Criterion, which is a membership driven platform to find information on questions leaders have about their business and specific topics. - The best organizations use data to make decisions and prioritize resources. - Work with your contract partners to connect your cultures in a meaningful way. - Just getting the data isn't enough - share the information widely to harness the brainpower of your organization. - Don't let data rot in a desk drawer, you must take action on what you learn to improve your business. - In times of uncertainty, data keeps the focus where it matters most. The future is female.✨ . . Have you heard this phrase before? In 2019, you’ve likely heard it A LOT. Women are standing their ground, taking their place, leaning into their callings, and believing that their contribution to society and the kingdom is absolutely necessary. And although we support women taking their place with with confidence and conviction, we believe that the future isn’t JUST female; the future is male AND female. Kelli Masters talks about this same idea and why it’s important to work together with our brother’s in Christ. She eloquently told us that she believes the future involves men and women working together to achieve a goal. We couldn’t agree more. Kelli is poised, articulate, and grounded in the work she’s doing. We are humbled that she’d share her story and insight with us. Our HQ team expounds on what Kelli’s story meant to them and why her message is valuable to all women serving anywhere in any capacity. Recognized as one of the most influential women in sports business, Kelli Masters often hears, "You have a DREAM JOB." But she chooses to inspire others not with her successes, but with her vulnerability, sharing not only the victories but also the battles and failures along the way. Kelli is an attorney, an NFL sports agent and Founder and President of KMM Sports, a full-service sports management company based in Oklahoma City. Kelli has represented more professional athletes than any woman in the industry, having served as agent/contract advisor to players in every NFL draft since 2006 as well as numerous athletes in the MLB draft and the Olympics. In 2010, she made history as the first woman to represent a Top 5 pick in the NFL Draft (#3 overall). Her story of progress through pain was featured as part of Motrin's national "Women in Progress" campaign in 2017. Kelli is a former National and World Champion baton twirler, and was also Miss Oklahoma 1997, winning awards for talent and community service at the Miss America pageant that year. Did you know our theme for the month of October is women supporting women? Let’s be real. Our lives are far from perfect and all it takes is one look on social media or at a sliver of our friends’ lives for comparison and competition to set in. But it doesn’t need to be that way. We need each other! Not only is there enough space for each of us, but we can lift up the other women around us. Today’s guest, Trang Green, totally embodies the selfless and determined character of someone crushing it at supporting women in her community. You will want to go get in your peoples’ corners after listening to her share about the impact women have when they give of themselves and what they have to love and care for other women in their lives. Let’s be known for supporting the women in our lives and communities with all we have. Alisa Trang Green is the Founder and Chairwoman of the Dress for Success Oklahoma City affiliate. Trang has been working in the nonprofit sector for numerous years. Some of her expertise range from fundraising, spreading community awareness, advocating for women and relationship building with at-risk individuals. Her passion for helping others started when her family immigrated to the United States from Vietnam to seek the American Dream. She grew up in the Oklahoma City community where philanthropy played a big role in her upbringing. She feels a responsibility to repay the community for what they have done for her and her family’s life. That responsibility has grown into a love for the individuals working to break the cycle of poverty or hardship. Trang has always lived with the philanthropy philosophy of, “Why work to make other people rich, when you should be working to enrich others.” Trang graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s in Corporate Communications in 2008. While pursuing her bachelor’s degree, she was active in a total of 26 organizations on campus while still mentoring inner-city school students in her spare time. Recently, Trang was awarded the University of Central Oklahoma Distinguished Alumni Award in 2018. During that time, Trang was also a former Miss Asian UCO and 4th runner-up in national Miss Vietnam USA. Pageantry gave her a platform to reach and influence young woman both locally and nationally. Before starting her own nonprofit, Trang assisted in running a nonprofit clinic for individuals with neuromuscular disease as well as directing a free wheel-chair adaptable summer camp for the pediatric patients at the clinic. She is a believer in second chances and serves on numerous nonprofit boards in Oklahoma City. Trang is also fluent in Vietnamese. In her spare time she enjoys being active in ministry, reading, writing, traveling and spending time with her husband, director Brent Ryan Green, and two daughters. She is looking forward to equipping and empowering the women in Oklahoma City to achieve their own American Dream. Today's episode is sponsored by Mom's Best Friend. Have you ever looked at your life and wondered how you ended up where you are? Maybe you have switched industries, you are going back to school to study an entirely new subject a decade later or are just getting started in our career and don’t know what you want to do for the rest of your life. We know it can be really stressful or overwhelming to go through many different changes our personal and professional lives will go through over time. Our guest in today’s episode totally understands. Leigh has worked in politics, medical sales and now owns her own small jewelry business after being a stay at home mom for several years. Leigh’s story about how she has navigated the many changes in her life to pursue her different passions is so encouraging. You don’t want to miss hearing Leigh change our often limited definition of creativity to one that emcompasses the different strains of creativity within each of us. Our HQ team picks up right where Leigh left off and discusses how we often have a very limited view of what our work and calling should like and how we can find a better way to integrate the many parts of our lives. "I was the nine-year-old selling rope bracelets on the neighborhood golf course. I was the high school sophomore beading necklaces for friends. I was the co-ed hosting jewelry shows in my dorm room. Crafting interesting, accessible jewelry has followed me through my lifetime. Today, I am thankful to serve a creative God. I am thankful to get to produce what pours out of my soul. I am thankful for my supportive, loving husband and three amazing children. I am thankful for the gift of creativity and the opportunity to pass it on to my loyal customers. I will always be open to new ideas, new styles and new methods. Hungering and hunting. Combining and creating. Jewelry should be a conversation starter, a mark of personality, something that speaks to you. I am inspired by nature. Inspired by cultures. Inspired by my God." Is it okay to take time to rest and still put in the hours in our professional and personal lives? Will everything in my life fall apart if I do? We know it can seem impossible or even wrong to stop the never-ending hustle and make time to rest our bodies and minds. Our temptation to keep going can lead to burnout for many of us though. We see it in our work, relationships and physical and mental health. Something needs to change if we want to continue to be healthy and give our all to the things that matter most to us. Today’s guest, Paula McDade, is a great example of how to practice true self-care while continuing to serve well and crush it at work. She is meeting needs and serving in her community while also taking care of herself and making time to rest. The result? She is in a healthy place to give her best effort in all areas of her life. Later in the episode, our HQ team shares their take on the idea of self care and how they practice rest in their own busy lives. Paula McDade is the author, licensed minister and her work is currently featured on You Version the Bible app, an international digital platform reaching millions of readers daily. She is sought after in the speaking and business arena as a creative visionary who also has a heart for people from all walks of life. If that’s is not enough, she also works at Succeeding At Work which is a nonprofit organization that helps with employment readiness skills to youth in the juvenile detention system in Dallas County. Do you ever wonder how to be authentic on social media? Let’s be honest. Social media and authenticity do not typically go together. In a world where we simply show a highly filtered highlight reel, the full story of our lives is often tucked far away from the Instagram world. And yet, sometimes we want to break through the curated scroll of perfection and show a little more of our true selves. Today’s guest, Chandler Hatchett felt this very desire and to her surprise, her authenticity resonated with her followers more than her typical posts. Chandler even found her online community to be a real sense of support through hard times in her life. Her take on our September theme of building authentic community will give you some hope in the often crazy world of social media. Wonder how what being authentic on social media looks like for you? Yeah, us too! Thankfully, Kat, Lindsay and Feleceia discuss what our relationship with being authentic on social media can look like as young professional women. Chandler is an author, speaker and blogger here in Dallas, TX. She is also the founder and editor in chief of The H is For..., a media center and lifestyle brand that serves to encourage, inspire and equip women to live well in all aspects of life. Chandler believes that faith and wellness go hand in hand and is passionate about the modern woman and equipping her to be the best version of herself. She’s the author of A Proverb A Day - a month long devotional through the book of Proverbs, and her upcoming devotional 'Outfit of the Day - 40 Days of Getting Dressed in Truth' launches in October. Her favorite roles, however, are wife to Franklin and mom to Brooks (4) and Ainsley (1). Upton Bell Interview - Part 1 This episode we fire up the DeLorean and head back to April 15, 1904, the birthdate of Frances Upton. Frances is the mother of this week's guest, Upton Bell. The Football History Dude podcast happened to release on April 15, 2018, so there's a premonition going on here. You will find out in the episode how Frances Upton and the podcast are linked in the upcoming 100th season of the NFL. The story is told through the experiences of Upton Bell. Here you can find the dedicated Upton Bell page. Upton is the son of the First Great Commissioner of the NFL - Bert Bell. He joins us to share stories from his book: Present at the Creation - My Life in the NFL and the Rise of America's Game. Upton's book walks you through a journey in the history of the NFL unlike anyone else can. He had a first-hand glimpse of the beginning of the NFL when he was the son of Bert Bell, the first Great Commissioner. Upton was at a crossroads when his father passed away and ended up working for the Baltimore Colts and the Great Don Shula. He was the youngest GM in the NFL at the time when he took over for the then, Boston Patriots. He later owned the Charlotte Hornets, a World Football League organization. And as if that wasn’t enough of a diverse background, he worked his way into the media as a sportscaster. Oh, by the way, he interviewed some of the greatest people in the nation at the time. Some include George HW Bush, Bill Clinton, and Stephen Hawking. This is the 10,000 foot Eagle Eye View of Upton’s life, and there’s no way I could do it justice, so let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. So without further ado, I present to you, Upton Bell. So, strap on your seat belt, and let’s get ready to take this baby up to 88mph. Upton Bell Book - Present At The Creation Note - As an affiliate, I earn a commission on qualifying purchases. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. There was never a dull moment, and I highly suggest you pick it up. The interview is a 3-part series, but it would take triple that to cover everything in this book (maybe more). It's mostly a chronology of Upton's life. The book starts at the beginning, giving you an inside look into why Bert Bell was considered the First Great Commissioner. Then it walks you through his days with the Baltimore Colts, on to the craziness of the disorganized "Boston" Patriots, up to his time as an owner in the WFL, and then as a broadcaster. Of course, there's plenty more in between. Matthew Algeo Interview - Part 2 This episode we fire up the DeLorean and head back to December 26, 1943, and we are at Wrigley Field to watch the 1943 NFL Championship game between the Washington Redskins and the Chicago Bears. We learned a little about this game back in the episode about Bronko Nagurski. The reason this moment is so important is that Bronko was called back to the NFL after the league was decimated from players leaving for the war. We also left off at this point in the story with our guest riding shotgun with us in the DeLorean on last week's episode. His name is Matthew Algeo. If you did not listen to Part 1 of the interview, I highly suggest you do that first. Matthew is an award-winning journalist that has reported from four continents. His stories have appeared on public radio’s All Things Considered, Marketplace, and Morning Edition. Here you can find the dedicated Matthew Algeo page. He is the author of five books, and the topic of this episode is Last Team Standing - How the Steelers and the Eagles - The STEAGLES - Saved Pro Football During World War II. This book won the 2006 Nelson Ross Award from the Pro Football Researchers Association, which recognizes his outstanding achievement in pro football research and historiography. In this episode, we get to learn about the creation of the STEAGLES up through the end of the season, and the next episode will be the remainder of the Matthew Algeo interview. You can pick up any of Matthew's books through the following Amazon links. Note - As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Let’s just say these books are obscurely intriguing, and if you have an inquisitive mind that gets sucked into thought-provoking stories, then I suggest you check out his work. But without further ado, I present to you, Matthew Algeo. Tweet This episode we fire up the DeLorean and head back to a time when ESPN was not a juggernaut. The network had just launched a few months prior, and the President of the newly minted network devised a brilliant plan with then-Commissioner Pete Rozelle to televise the NFL Draft. Lem Barney was given the honor of being the first ever player drafted on live television. As we know, the NFL Draft and ESPN would have a very fruitful future, but we have to go back to that first one to understand how we got to where we are today. So, strap on your seat belt, and let’s get ready to take this baby up to 88mph. Tweet This episode we fire up the DeLorean and head back to 1936 to witness the first NFL draft. Times were different for the players and owners pre-draft era. Some say the NFL draft saved professional sports because it helped balance the leagues. Others say the birth of the NFL draft was a major turning point in the explosion of the NFL. The draft was the brainchild of the first great NFL Commissioner and former owner of the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers. You can learn more about him in the Bert Bell episode. For now, it's time to take you back to that first NFL draft, and I'll clue you into a secret. There's a major twist at the end. So, strap on your seat belt, and let’s get ready to take this baby up to 88mph. https://twitter.com/share (Tweet) This episode we fire up the DeLorean to take a look back at one of the darkest decades in NFL History, the 1980's. The fight between the players and the owners for the freedom to player for team of choice came to a head on multiple occasions. Last week's episode covering the NFLPA through the 60's and 70's was only the tip of the spear for the players. A strike in 1982 wiped out half of the season, and then the infamous "Scab Season" occurred in 1987. This episode breaks it down. So strap on your seat belt, and let’s get ready to take this baby up to 88mph. https://twitter.com/share (Tweet) This episode we fire up the DeLorean and head back to continue the fight for the players against NFL owners. Last week was part 1 of a 4 part series covering the history of the NFLPA. This week covers the 1960s and 1970s. The announcement of the AFL took things in a different direction for both sides. However, the John Mackey vs. NFL case was the most significant event towards advancing the right to free agency for the players. John Mackey played a large role beyond his litigation. This episode bridges the events between the creation of the NFLPA and the strikes of the 80s. So strap on your seat belt, and let’s get ready to take this baby up to 88mph. Tweet This episode we fire up the DeLorean and head back to learn about Bill Radovich, the Father of Sports Labor Action. Bill was a player for the Detroit Lions during the late 1930s and 1940s. He had what he felt was a simple request, to be traded to a Western team to be close to his sick father. His request was denied, and the league threatened to blacklist him if he jumped ship. Bill thought this was uncool, so he took the NFL to courts. We talked in previous episodes about many court cases and the fight for modern free agency. This episode covers a time period before it was thought to be possible for players to be free, including the formation of the NFLPA. So strap on your seat belt, and let’s get ready to take this baby up to 88mph. Tweet This episode we fire up the DeLorean and head back to learn about the more prominent rule changes in NFL history. https://thefootballhistorydude.com/episode1/ (Episode 1) discussed how Walter Camp, The Father of American Football, helped transform the game from soccer and rugby closer to the style we are used to seeing today. However, this style of American Football was still very basic and dangerous. Throughout the past 100 years, the NFL has shifted to a pass-friendly league, predicated on high scoring affairs to maintain fan engagement. This episode starts with the forward pass and Teddy Roosevelt's demand to improve player safety, and it runs through the timeline to discuss some of the more impactful rule changes in NFL history. So strap on your seat belt, and let’s get ready to take this baby up to 88mph. Scott Colby, also known as the fitness industry's "Abs Expert" is a fitness coach, entrepreneur, and the host to the Power To Change podcast. Scott brings on the most inspirational stories from people who have transformed their minds, bodies and lives to find out what gives people the power to overcome obstacles and make changes so they can live with more passion and purpose. With a background in medical research, Scott had ample knowledge of the way our bodies work, making his transition into health and fitness an easy one. He has helped numerous people with his accountability groups and coaching programs - and he’s not about to stop just yet. WHY ACCOUNTABILITY MATTERS Growing up, Scott always had a problem with his body image and was the kind of guy who refused to take off his shirt at the pool or beach. He just didn’t feel good about it. Over time, he realized it was important to create a change and embrace that change. But stating a goal is different from actually doing it and having someone take a look at it - not because of the need for validation, but because one needs to be pushed toward the direction he needs to take. Sometimes, we are our own worst enemy and that’s what accountability is for. To motivate us to reach the end goal. Scott emphasized that end goals should be for the purpose of giving yourself a pat on the back and complimenting yourself for a job well done - it is not for the affirmation. LISTEN AS SCOTT TALKS ABOUT His biochemical engineering education and previous work with medical research; he was featured in journals such as Spine and Gait and Posture How he conceptualized and materialized the Her Strength Dallas Bootcamp Words that we should take out of our vocabulary to enhance our mindset The three habits he does to ensure wellness, both in body and mind Having the ultimate power of choice! The Gratitude Challenge There are those times when we feel lost and almost incapable of getting up. Scott Colby reminds us to get up and be grateful - even for the smallest and most trivial things. Anchoring our gratitude to something we are already doing helps in reminding us to express it. Still having a tough time? Write down the things you are grateful for for 7 straight days! You may just pick up a habit. Getting Fit For Photos Through Gratitude And Accountability In his community, he has his members write down the things they are grateful for. You wouldn’t believe what he found out! Not only did the members enjoy writing down their gratitude, but they enjoyed reading others’ list more! He says it’s like a glimpse into other people’s lives!
