En Mayo Sol de Minca me recibió con los brazos abiertos, en un momento en el que sentía debía recargarme con el abrazo de la naturaleza. Era en parte una fantasía, en parte un llamado por estar más cerca de un ambiente más familiar que acogiera mi necesidad de verde, de agua, de tierra. Llegué a este lugar sostenido por el amor y las convicciones de una familia que están interesados en hacer de esta reserva un territorio para aprender, para conservar, para organizar otras formas del vivir. Sus atardeceres recargaron no sólo mi cuerpo y mi corazón, sino que también abrieron un camino que se siente bien para MoVida. Ahora Minca, es el lugar donde planto mis sueños de contribuir a un mundo más sostenible, consciente, ecológico, en equilibrio, donde la conexión entre cuerpo y mente, cultura y naturaleza sea posible. El agua fría del río Gaira baja por las montañas de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a su paso encuentra lugar en Minca, un corregimiento destacado por su historia campesina, la biodiversidad y en las últimas décadas como destino ecoturístico. Las estudiantes Lina Morales y Angie Chantre se preguntan por el turismo y el cuidado ambiental en Minca para responder esta pregunta invitaron a Nubia López, habitante de Minca y campesina y Tatiana Jaramillo, ecóloga que hace parte de una reserva forestal y el ecohotel Sol de Minca. On this episode of The Family Business Voice, Viviana Jaramillo speaks to Ramia about Sol de Minca’s collaboration with neighbouring communities, operating a business with Sierra Nevada indigenous values in mind and what indigenous leaders there are saying about the pandemic. As soon as Sol de Minca’s owners knew they wanted to start a business on indigenous land, they contacted the local indigenous community to ask for guidance. A spiritual leader came onto the property and conducted a ritual so that they could grow food and build structures with nature on their side. The final part of my travel diaries from two months in South America. Wow, Colombia what a place! This was my first solo travelling experience so I was super excited to get going and check out the country.  - Things I did in Medellin: -Do the Real City Free Walking Tour to understand more about the city (Highly recommended!) -Do the Exotic Fruit tour -Do a day trip to Guatape and see if you can include a tour of a coffee farm -Check out a football match -Check out the nightlife in El Poblado -Eat traditional dishes like Arepas and Bandeja Paisa - Things I didn’t get to do but are recommended: -Tour of Comuna 13 -Ride the cable cars above the city -Go paragliding - Other places I visited in Colombia: -Cartagena (not my favourite place but worth the visit) -Isla Grande (part of the islands off the coast of Cartagena. Highly recommended!! Make sure you stay for at least a night) -Head to the Minca area for good hiking and being in nature -Costeno beach near Santa Marta for a good party scene -Barranquilla for Carnaval in February! - Some useful tips: -Get a metro card, it makes travelling super cheap -Eat all of the fruit! This is a short episode I recorded in Minca, Columbia. I was going to delete it and record a new one as I wasn't initially happy with the sound quality. After listening to it a second time, I decided to keep it and upload it as the sounds of the birds in the background give a better sense of the jungle and the sounds of wildlife. Gemma is a teacher of politics and current affairs in Scotland and is also a travel blogger at Two Scots Abroad. Gemma and her husband are just back from a 17-month career break during which they traveled in the Americas and Europe. Although they've returned home, they're not giving up traveling, they'll just be doing it a little differently. Today Gemma talks about their adventures on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. They had been traveling for a couple of months in Peru and Bolivia and kept getting recommendations about going to Colombia. After time spent in the bigger cities, Bogota, Medellin, and Cartagena, they ventured out to the coast. Once there, they found their hearts stolen by both the beaches and the towns of Santa Marta, Costeño, Tayrona National Park and also Minca, a tiny town tucked away in the Sierra Nevada mountains!
