Excellent essay on the macroeconomic limits of US exceptionalism and what it means for the increasingly protectionist global trading regime and the resurgence of mercantilism. Is the US undermining the rules based order that it was a chief architect and proponent of in the post-WW2 period? A rain-drenched UK PM Rishi Sunak announced an earlier than expected general election date in the courtyard of 10 Downing Street. Is this an omen for a Conservative washout in the July general election?

Bradley Walsh is a familiar face to many millions of TV viewers, as the host of quiz shows including The Chase and Blankety-Blank, and as an actor in dramas such as Doctor Who and The Larkins. Bradley was born in Watford and after leaving school at 16 he was apprenticed to the local Rolls-Royce factory as a jet engineer. A keen footballer, he signed to Brentford FC when he was 19 but his career was cut short by injury after only two seasons with the club. He dealt with this blow by turning his attention to the entertainment business. He worked as a Pontin's bluecoat and then tried his luck as a stand-up comedian - doing impressions and telling jokes at working men's clubs. In 1986 he turned professional, and his first booking was a stint at the Pavilion Theatre on Cromer Pier. Later he became the support act for performers including Dame Shirley Bassey, Leo Sayer and Sir Tom Jones. In 1997 he hosted the quiz show Wheel of Fortune and three years later got his first acting role in the Channel 4 series Lock Stock….a spin-off from Guy Ritchie's 1998 feature film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. He followed this up with roles in Coronation Street, Law & Order: UK and Doctor Who Bradley released his debut album Chasing Dreams, featuring his interpretations of popular standards, in 2016. In that year it became the biggest-selling debut album by a British artist. In this episode, we sit down with the hilarious Damien Warren-Smith about the art of Clown and his character, Garry Starr. Damien is currently touring his latest production, Garry Starr: Greece Lightning which is coming to Darwin, the International Melbourne Comedy Festival and the Sydney Comedy Festival over the next two months. Damien shares the ins and outs of this unique form of theatre, his training at the École Philippe Gaulier, the creation of a Plague of Idiots, and how performers find their 'clown'. About Damien: Since graduating ACA's 2.5 year program in 2004, Damien has been making a massive name for himself in his sell-out one-man shows, under the comedic alter-ego GARY STARR, touring England and the world. As well as this, Damien landed the role of ‘James' in hit Aussie TV series Love My Way, in which he worked alongside Asher Keddie and Claudia Karvan, as well as working consistently in London and across the UK, on UK's hit TV shows Law & Order: UK, and the BBC's The Persuasionists. Warren made his professional stage debut in a production of Ladies Down Under for the Hull Truck Theatre Company, which led him to being cast in director Sue McCormick's highly acclaimed production of Hamlet at Lancaster Castle. The production was shortlisted for a Peter Brook Empty Space Award in 2008. Damien continued to further his training in 2013 with legendary clown teacher Philippe Gaulier, and then formed the comedy troupe ‘Plague of Idiots', which toured to theatre festivals around the world and eventually Edinburgh Fringe. There's just so much news to talk about! Enough to lure Allison back on for another episode during what is increasingly inaccurately being called a "hiatus", even! We break down the newly released trailer for the upcoming special, "Revolution Of The Daleks", and for some reason the newly revealed guest cast launches Alasdair on tangents about Law & Order: UK and the Mystery Science Theater 3000 entry Time Chasers. (Surprising amount of Law & Order: UK talk in this episode, honestly.) Then we get into some casting news about the upcoming series, followed by a general meditation on Jodie Whittaker's future on the show and what she might do after Doctor Who. And remember, we have a live show on December 12 at 6:30 Eastern/5:30 Central -- go to www.crowdcast.io/e/ddw-live to register!

Jones described the character as "someone struggling to find his identity", and identified with the character's loneliness being an orphan like Rand. He noted that "Danny gets really stressed and really pissed off sometimes, and I understand that ... [his] optimism and where that comes from."In preparation for the role, Jones studied kung fu, wushu, and tai chi, along with weight training, Buddhist philosophy, and meditation. Toby Nichols portrays a young Danny Rand. Jessica Henwick - as - Colleen Wing (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Game of Thrones) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3725055/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 A martial artist ally of Rand who runs her own martial arts dojo called Chikara Dojo in New York City. Henwick felt the most defining word for Wing was "alone", saying, "She doesn't want to be anyone's love interest and open herself up in that way." Henwick also tried "to pull out that sort of very dry humor that [Wing] has, and that no bullshit New Yorker demeanor" from the comics version in her portrayal. Tom Pelphrey - as - Ward Meachum (Guiding Light, As the World Turns, Banshee) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1670601/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 The son of Harold and childhood acquaintance of Rand, whose work building up Rand Enterprises with his sister Joy is threatened to be undone with Rand's return. Ward is a character from the comics, though Pelphrey noted "we’re not necessarily beholden to representing him [in the series] exactly as he appears in the comic book." Stroup said that Ward would experience some "male angst" on Rand's return, because "Ward would have been the one who picked on [Rand] when he was little so as pure and innocent and great as Iron Fist is, he comes in and he causes some problems" there. Ilan Eskenazi portrays a teenage Ward Meachum. Jessica Stroup - as - Joy Meachum (90210, The Following, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1888211/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 The daughter of Harold and childhood acquaintance of Rand, whose work building up Rand Enterprises with her brother Ward is threatened to be undone with Rand's return. Stroup said that Joy "absolutely loves" Rand, and his return to New York is "like this rebirth of what she once was, and she gets to ask these questions about herself because he’s posing them to her." Stroup said that Joy would initially be unsure whether Rand is who he says he is. Aimee Laurence portrays a young Joy Meachum. We open with a lengthy consideration of the rumor that Bradley Walsh could be the new companion, and what a 57-year-old man would be like as part of the TARDIS team. Also, we take a moment to recognize how seriously great the cast of Law and Order: UK was. Then it's debate time, and for the second straight week the series four entry crushes the series 7B contender, as we both admit we have no idea what's going on in "Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS," and not in a cool, "Warriors' Gate" kind of way. At least it often looks pretty. But "Turn Left" has plenty to recommend it, including four great performances. Also, Rose is in it! (We kid Billie Piper, but she's totally right when she's said she forgot how to do Rose's voice.) Anyway, this episode is great. And join us next week for a pair of Victorian romps, as we look at "The Next Doctor" and our first (entirely accidental) repeat pick, "The Crimson Horror"!
