An award-winning global director of cirque, cinema and stage. As a comic act designer he specializes in clowns, characters and story components. Stefan is the author of The Power of HA!Connecting Through the Heart of Humor. He studied theatre in college only to realize that his true passion lay in the cross-over to the circus arts, so he set his sights on Cirque du Soleil. As a result of his intuitive gift for mining actors' true potential, various sit-coms hired him to coach actors, including The Roseanne Show. After self-producing a number of critically acclaimed plays in Hollywood and New York City (Call of the Wild, Midsummer Nite's Text, Your Town Follies, Moon Over Madness, Atomic Holiday Lift-Off) he traveled to Europe to juggle on the streets and study with the premiere master-teacher, Philippe Gaulier. This move resulted in a collaboration with Bill Irwin and David Shiner on the Tony- winning show Fool Moon. Haves was then poached by Cirque du Soleil, collaborating on clown and character performances within six touring and resident productions (Kooza, Iris, Amaluna, Banana Shpeel, Zaya, and Drawn to Life). Prior to that, he wrote and directed the world-class Teatro Zinzanni—a dinner/ cabaret featuring such luminaries as Joan Baez. Today, Stefan Haves is a trusted international thought-leader who was tapped to present a TedX Talk in New Delhi, India, and was invited to conduct personal appearances for blue-chip companies like PepsiCo, Infosys, Mindtree, and Barclays Bank. He gleefully shares his innovative message on the role of humor, creativity, and effective expression gleaned from the stage and applied to the corporate workplace. In 2021 Haves was granted the opportunity to co-direct Katy Perry's Playland-branded New Year's dinner/cirque event at Hilton's Resort World in Las Vegas. Earlier in his career, Haves cut his teeth as an actor and a visual-comedian who appeared on stages and television shows worldwide—even garnering $10,000 on America's Funniest People by performing his signature piece "Back-Man". Stefan's 2016 original conception of the spectacle Festigal, in which Haves was tasked to showcase famous pop celebrities from television's Romania's Got Talent, used a Cirque du Soleil aesthetic in a stadium setting. His cinematic offerings include the award-winning short film Punch Drunk, featuring Academy Award nominee Sally Kellerman (M*A*S*H) and full-length feature Stalled starring Doug Jones (Pan's Labyrinth).

Our mini Scandinavia tour comes back to Norway again after two recent episodes feauturing guests from Denmark and Sweden. Viggo Venn, previously half of clowning duo Zack & Viggo, is our second guest from Norway.Viggo trained as a clown at the renowned École Philippe Gaulier, where he is now a member of the teaching staff. His clowning instinct - a desire to entertain and a persistence to embrace failures ("flops") - meant this recording has been the most chaotic and disruptive to date. But it was fun!Viggo explains why he exaggerates the "foreign idiot" persona on stage and consequently exaggerates his accent. We also peek into Viggo's journey as a performer - how he ended up training as a clown after coming across Dr. Brown's show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.Viggo was not only interviewed but performed throughout this recording. Delighted to welcome creative and comedy legend Vic Llewellyn to The Good Listening To 'Clearing' to talk about all things being Vic, castle building, writing, creativity & random squirrels!Vic is a theatre maker, writer, actor & chewed bread sculptor! Funny, educational & inspiring on the outer limits of creativity. You can also 'watch/listen' to Vic's episode here:https://vimeo.com/722189063Enjoy!More about Vic:John Victor Llewellyn Williams, aka Vic Llewellyn, is a delightful, deadline-driven dramaturg, who wants to be remembered for what he has done rather than what he was called. Yet his name itself is interesting. He was called Victor after Victor Silvester, the world champion ballroom dancer who also sold literally millions of records as a band leader from the 1930s onwards. The name Llewellyn comes from the Nurse, who was present at his birth, which he sees as something of a miracle in any event - on two counts. First, his father survived a potentially lethal booby trap explosion in Egypt in World War 2. Secondly, his grandfather was a genuine Foundling - abandoned on a Bucher's doorstep as an unknown  newly born baby! Happily, grandfather, father and the young Vic Llewellyn all survived and thrived, although Vic himself was turning 30 before his natural creativity got into overdrive. He was taught to be a Clown by the one and only Philippe Gaulier and remains inspired by Gaulier's teachings to this day. Vic met his future wife Emma while working with Tom Clark from the then famous Clark's shoes' family. Vic is inspired by art, books and music. Even if a book is not to his liking, if he has started it, he will always finish it, optimistically hoping to find the rare pearl amid the encircling dross. Likewise for him, there is no such thing as ‘background music' in the curious world of Vic Llewellyn. With a brother called Alex who is 9 years older than him (another miracle!) Vic was naturally way ahead of his peers in his liking for Jimi Hendrix and the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. One of Vic's schoolboy nicknames was Mature Alex! The theatricality of that band appealed to him. As well as writing and performing, Vic now has his own live radio show and is totally unworried if “no one's really listening “! Art is its own reward. Applying a Profit and Loss metric merely demeans it. Vic agrees with Eleanor Roosevelt's assertion that critics are habitually overrated and adds his own delightfully idealistic idea that “Everyone's got this beautiful thing inside them!” The challenge, Vic suggests, is simply to find where you belong as early in your life as possible.Reg Starkey UK Health Triangle Magazine

Chase Brantley is a jack of all trades and master at all: comedian, director, writer, business owner, theater teacher, musician, and long distance thru-hiker. In Athens, Georgia, most people know Chase as the founder of Moonlight Theater which was founded after he graduated from École Philippe Gaulier, a French clown school.  Inspired by the school's philosophy of playfulness and games, the Theater grew into an award-winning program that hosted over 182 performances in under two years.  During that time, Chase also founded a residency program that hosted twelve professional artists from seven countries, directed twenty original comedy shows, and performed in over forty comedy productions.  He hopes after COVID to continue building spaces that help artists grow.  In addition to all of the above, Chase is also a Covid-survivor, which is pretty scary considering it gave him asthma, swollen underarm lymph nodes, & potential blood clots... 6 months AFTER having it. The more we talk to people the more unsettling this virus appears. Chase currently co-hosts “To white Folks”, a podcast that discusses the legal and political history of white supremacy in Athens, GA.  He most recently directed “Double Consciousness” starring David Perdue and Adán Bean at the Morton Theater.  He is also a producer and writer for the upcoming (Fall 2022) Shakespeare sitcom “Infinite Jest”.

About Mark: Mark Ivanir has been working as a professional film and television actor in Los Angeles since 2001. His first major film role was in Steven Spielberg's 1993 Oscar-winning epic SCHINDLER'S LIST. He rejoined with Spielberg twice, first for a cameo appearance in Terminal, then again for his much anticipated Tintin. A pivotal role in Robert Deniro's 2006 film, The Good Shepherd, landed Mark a role in Barry Levinson's What Just Happened, this time acting alongside Deniro. Currently, Ivanir awaits the release of four studio features: Johny English Reborn (starring Rowan Atkinson), Everybody Loves Whales (staring Drew Barrymore, Kristen Bell, John Krassinsky), A Late Quartet (co starring Philip Seymor Hoffman, Catherine Keener and Christopher Walken) and 360 (co starring Anthony Hopkins, Jude Law, Rachel Weitz and Ben Foster). He has booked over 35 Guest Star and Guest Lead roles on television shows such as: 24, Monk, CSI NY, Law and Order, Fringe, CSI Miami, Nikita and many others. Ivanir's road to Hollywood was circuitous at best. Born in the communist Ukraine (former USSR), he immigrated to Israel with his family in 1972. While serving in the Israeli Army he participated in the then clandestine mission to bring Ethiopian Jews to Israel. His military experience and expertise has been tapped for various roles including De Niro's CIA thriller THE GOOD SHEPHERD. After completing his stint in the Military, Ivanir turned down several job offers from Israel's Secret Service and gave up studying medicine to pursue a higher vocation—clowning. He completed two years in a Circus school, traveled throughout Europe performing on the streets, and ended up working in a Parisian Circus – Cirque Pawelles. After leaving the circus, Mark entered into formal theatrical training, studying at Israel's top acting school Nissan Nativ, later co-founding a theatre company made up of actors from the former USSR called Gesher Theatre. Within two years, Gesher became Israel's top theatrical outfit and was hailed by the London Times as “one of the six best theatre companies in the world.” Tapping his command of Russian, English, and Hebrew, Mark performed many different roles, translated and adapted eight plays for the company, and performed everywhere from Lincoln Center to the National Theatre in London as well as major stages in Paris, Rome, and Berlin. After being cast by Spielberg in SCHINDLER'S LIST, Ivanir moved to London to study with Philippe Gaulier and the actors of the Theater De Complicite. During this stint, he landed roles in THE MAN WHO CRIED (with Johnny Depp) and SECRET AFFAIR which encouraged him to relocate to Hollywood. Ever since Ivanir has been working consistently in major studio film and television projects in eclectic roles spanning from a Russian spy to an Israeli producer to a German elephant trainer. Happy Pride! "Ultimately, I think our job as artists is to share the secrets of our heart so that others may be set free... saving our own lives so that others can save theirs." Erik Liberman soothes the soul, simple as that. Whether or not it's his voice, his charm, his talent, or his point of view, Erik makes the world better for other people.  “It's not enough to want to make it, you've got to have something to make it with,” is a quote he holds near and dear. After the experience of seeing Chita Rivera in Kiss of the Spider Woman, and having said that to Erik, it kept him focused and able to hang in the industry and build success; a concept we touch on in this episode paired with failure.  Whenever interacting with someone, Erik tries to hold a vision for who someone was and who they will be. In a place of presence, it not only meets them in the now, but it extends forward and backwards. “We seek to be drawn from the plague of linear time into an encounter of infinity,” he says. “And that's why with great stars they say they stopped time.” Erik is also a survivor of a near death experience, which has informed his artistry. “What I realized was the thing that everything was fearing: death, was the wrong place to put the focus,” he says. “The place to put the focus is on utilizing the time one has in the body to do what one came for.” In this episode, Erik provides incredibly useful insight and tools on how the multi-hyphenate experience helps us understand the ecosystem of show business as a whole. You'll also hear us touch on the concept of vulnerability, weaponizing vulnerability, near death experiences, dignity & alignment, existentialism, commercial theatre, activism, and the discipline to sit down with yourself and create something that is bigger than you.  "Multifaceted, irreducible, and astonishing." - Joan Juliet Buck, former editor-in-chief of French Vogue Mentored by Maureen Stapleton, named a YoungArts winner in high school, and trained at London's Complicité and National Theatre, where he came under the wing of Dame Judi Dench. He received a grant to study with master clown teacher Philippe Gaulier in France, and in Los Angeles, was the face of noted improv-and-sketch-comedy school, The Groundlings. Liberman was "discovered" by 21-time Tony Award winning director and producer Hal Prince as a winner of the Lotte Lenya Competition. Prince hired him for his Broadway debut in Lovemusik, written by Oscar winner Alfred Uhry and starring Tony winners Donna Murphy and Michael Cerveris, remarking of the actor, "Erik is the real deal. Once you've seen him, you can't forget him." Liberman went on to receive Helen Hayes, Ovation, Garland, and Connecticut Critics Circle Awards, his onstage work reviewed as "a showcase of sheer star power." He originated the roles of The Telephone Guy in the award-winning Band's Visit opposite Tony Shalhoub, Charles Revson opposite Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole in War Paint, and Clopin in Alan Menken, Stephen Schwartz, and Peter Parnell's The Hunchback of Notre Dame.  Other theatre highlights include: Motel the Tailor in Fiddler opposite Harvey Fierstein and the film's star, Topol. Some television credits include: Amazon's Transparent, Modern Family, and Martin Scorsese's Vinyl, and he will soon appear in the film American Dream.  Liberman has contributed to books including Performance of the Century, Wisdom From an Empty Mind, and Luminous Life. His master class series, Bridge to Broadway, benefited 45 charities and earned him a 2020 Encore Award from The Actors Fund, and he is currently developing a new book, documentary, and series for television.  For more information, please visit www.erikliberman.org and follow @erikliberman. The Bozos, look into the world of clowning and how one of the best, Philippe Gaulier, has changed our perception of clowning. You'd be surprised at the deep and dark places clowns reach for inspiration, not to mention the intimate understanding of people and the human predicament it takes to fully let go and give your best performance. I think that we really took away some relevant philosophical information in this episode that could help any person in any walk of life discover what it takes to become 100% committed to their craft.
