Howdy, strangers and welcome back. This week on the podcast, I sit with Sarah Beth and we chat about the 2008 film, The Strangers. We briefly rundown the film as we discuss the themes and our thoughts on how it made us feel. We also mention the 2018 sequel and the 2024 remake, The Strangers: Chapter 1. The Strangers is a 2008 psychological horror film that follows a young couple, Kristen and James, who retreat to a secluded vacation home after attending a friend's wedding. Their evening takes a terrifying turn when three masked strangers—Dollface, Man in the Mask, and Pin-Up Girl—begin to torment them without any apparent motive. As the night progresses, the couple's attempts to escape fail, leading to a suspenseful and terrifying game of cat and mouse. Thank you, everyone, for your support.

Welcome to the twenty first episode of The Beauty School Dropouts Podcast! We've mentioned the 'Pinup Community' a few times, but what is it really, and how did 'pinup' go from being posters of scantily clad burlesquers and hand-drawn babes to the modern lifestyle movement that we know today? Well, we don't have all the answers, but this week we talk about some of the history of 'pinup' and how it influences us, and why 'pinup' is more a state of mind than a strict style criteria. Did you know the official "pin-up girl" of the U.S. Army during World War II was a native Hoosier? Selected because of her wholesome image, Margie Stewart, who grew up in Wabash, Ind., appeared on 12 different posters with a combined distribution of more than 90 million copies to soldiers (both overseas and in this country), potential recruits and civilians in the homeland. Margie Stewart, who was an Indiana University student and a model before her selection as the official pin-up girl (that's the phrase used then for her designation), also had other distinctions. In addition to touring in World War II bond drives and USO shows, she became one of the first American civilians to enter Berlin after Germany's surrender. Stewart (1919-2012) also had small roles in Hollywood movies. She is among the World War II connections to Wabash County in northeastern Indiana that we will explore during our show. Others will include an engineer who got his start at an early truck assembly plant in Wabash before being hired by the Chinese government to launch their auto and truck industry in the late 1920s. During World War II, he remained in China, which then was an ally of the U.S., before returning to Wabash.
