The Future of Everything presented by Stanford Engineering

Today, we're re-releasing my conversation with psychiatrist Anna Lembke on the future of addiction. Whether its substances, screens, or work itself, addiction in some form touches nearly all of our lives either directly or through someone we care about. Anna breaks down the dopamine mechanisms behind addiction of all kinds, from opioids to social media to, in her own case, romance novels, and shares what actually works in recovery, including exercise and structured abstinence. Whether you're thinking about screen habits, substance use, or just how to build healthier routines, this one's well worth another listen. Have a question for Russ? Send it our way in writing or via voice memo, and it might be featured on an upcoming episode. Please introduce yourself, let us know where you're listening from, and share your question. Welcome to Manga Monday! This week we're diving into The Apothecary Diaries, based on Natsu Hyuuga's light novel and adapted into manga by Nekokurage, a mystery series set in an imperial court that shouldn't work as well as it does. Maomao is a 17 year old apothecary raised in the red light district who gets kidnapped and sold as a servant in the emperor's rear palace. She plans to keep her head down and survive her term quietly, but when the emperor's infant children start dying, she can't help herself. She figures out the cause, leaves an anonymous tip, and immediately catches the eye of Jinshi, the impossibly beautiful palace official who promotes her from laundry maid to poison taster. What follows is a medical mystery series wrapped in court intrigue, where Maomao solves cases with pharmacology, logic, and an unhinged enthusiasm for poison that borders on concerning. She's blunt, stubborn, and completely immune to Jinshi's charm, which only makes him more obsessed. The anime adaptation became a global hit, season two has already aired, and the manga has over 30 million copies in circulation. If you want a protagonist who's more interested in testing toxins on herself than romance, this is your series. If you enjoy the show, please rate, review, like, and subscribe to Sakura Society | An Anime Appreciation Podcast — and any other podcasts you love. Unsuspecting victims innocently tried to treat their ailments with a common pain medication, and ingested a fatal dose. We still feel the impact of these murders in the form of mandatory safety seals on medicine, milk, candy, and virtually every other kind of consumable product. In this episode Dr. Joseph Cibelli, a forensic psychologist, may have solved the case as an investigator, specialist, and the son of the possible Tylenol poisoner.Highlights:- Dr. Cibelli's new book about the Tylenol poisonings.- A deathbed confession by Dr. Cibelli's father while on hospice.- In Arlington Heights, Illinois, three members of one family are poisoned by Tylenol capsules. Three “martyrs.”- The broad concept of psychopathy.- The possible Tylenol poisoner's experience of being accidentally poisoned by medicine in his own childhood. “I tasted death, and I don't know that I was ever the same."- How Dr. Cibelli started putting the clues together at the time of the poisonings.- Possible “practice runs” of the poisonings done in advance of the known murders.- How it was discovered, early on in the case, that Tylenol capsules were used in the poisonings.- Dr. Cibelli's “old school” method of geographic profiling.- The possibility that DNA, or other forms of forensic investigation, could solve the case all these years later.- The right to free speech in this day and age where information about poisonings and mass murder are described, point by point, in writings available to anyone.Dr. Cibelli's Website:https://josephcibelli.comPrevious Criminal Behaviorology podcast on Halloween candy being poisoned:- https://youtu.be/CQw6G5_3xLsCriminal Behaviorology podcast on family annihilators:- https://youtu.be/Lf6YDjEaaYwLook up CrimBehav on Facebook: facebook.com/CrimBehavCriminal Behaviorology on Blogger. CB Podcast Sites:https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/dashboard/episodeshttps://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/criminal-behaviorology/id1441879795?mt=2&uo=4  https://www.google.com/podcasts?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy83MzY4OWFjL3BvZGNhc3QvcnNz https://open.spotify.com/show/5VM7Sjv762u7nb91YWGczZ  https://www.breaker.audio/criminal-behaviorology  https://overcast.fm/itunes1441879795/criminal-behaviorology  https://pca.st/Q38w  https://radiopublic.com/criminal-behaviorology-GEv2AZ  https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/anchor-podcasts/criminal-behaviorologyOn YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKSVoZOBwCG28xMnuPq_GtwOn Rumble:https://rumble.com/c/c-1826027On Locals Social Media:https://criminalbehaviorology.locals.com/?showPosts=1https://criminalbehaviorology.locals.comOn Twitter:https://twitter.com/CrimBehavOn Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/user?u=81930699Amazon:https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/a3604516-0645-4341-a792-75d10754556d/criminal-behaviorologyPlease write a review on any of our podcast sites listed above. Questions, comments, and requests for transcripts to:  criminalbehaviorology@gmail.comThank you for listening.

Kouri Richins Trial Cited in DHS Warning — Domestic Poisonings Are Surging

With Kouri Richins' aggravated murder trial set to begin February 23 in Park City, Utah, the Department of Homeland Security has issued an intelligence bulletin to law enforcement identifying her case as part of a growing national trend. The January 2026 bulletin warned that domestic partners are increasingly turning to chemical and biological toxins to kill, documenting seventeen cases since 2014 with at least eleven deaths. The substances most commonly used — antifreeze, eye drops, fentanyl, cyanide, and thallium — are chosen specifically because they mimic natural illness, creating significant challenges for detection and prosecution.Richins is charged with spiking her husband Eric's cocktail with a fatal dose of illicit fentanyl on March 3, 2022, with prosecutors alleging a prior failed attempt on Valentine's Day. Eric was found with approximately five times the lethal dose in his blood. The alleged motive centers on financial pressure — her realty company reportedly owed lenders at least $1.8 million while his estate was worth roughly $5 million. She has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent until proven otherwise. But the Richins case also highlights the systemic vulnerabilities that make poisoning an increasingly attractive method. Eric died at home and his death was initially treated as an overdose, not a homicide. America's autopsy rate has collapsed to 8.5%, with natural-looking deaths autopsied just 4.3% of the time. Research shows death certificates are wrong roughly a third of the time. Tony walks through three convicted cases — James Craig, Lana Clayton, and Stacey Castor — where the killer nearly escaped detection entirely, and connects them to the Richins trial and the federal warning that says this problem is getting worse.#KouriRichins #DHSPoisoningBulletin #DomesticPoisoning #TrueCrimeToday #JamesCraig #EricRichins #LanaClayton #StaceyCastor #AutopsyRate #FentanylPoisoningJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The weirdos have always been here. They just didn't have a medium to express their illegitimate views before social media. It used to be you had to have talent as a writer, journalist, or analyst to be published someplace where the public would be exposed to your thoughts. Now there is no checks and balance system that filters out the volatile and unstable. We are flooded with the most illogical because they have always outnumbered us. Sadly there have always been more bad parents than good ones. We just were spared this realization for most of human history because the internet wasn't there to give them a voice. The impression most have however is that the world has gone mad. I say the world was always majority mad, but now they're weaponized to bring us down and make us depressed. It was the better stock, the pneumas rather than the hylics AKA NPCs that kept the standard higher. Now it's an orgy of idiacy and cultural Marxism raging throughout media. I hope you are all doing well and understand we are here in this era for a reason and with a purpose. We need to restore decency and integrity to a landscape littered with human trash. In the Spring on 2018, a man and a young woman were found slipping in and out of consciousness on a public bench in Salisbury, Wiltshire. What would follow was an incredible story of espionage, poisoning, and political vendettas. As the world was gripped by the botched assassination of Sergei Skripal, news rooms and crisis rooms here in the UK were reeling with the implications of the Russian attack on British soil. The attempted killing of the double agent who'd turned to work for UK intelligence led to the death of a British woman Dawn Sturgess, the poisoning of two police officers, international condemnation, and the largest expulsion of Russian diplomats in history. This Friday, Lewis is joined by Amber Rudd, who was Home Secretary at the time, and journalist Mark Urban, who had interviewed Skripal in the weeks before the attack. They share their unique insight of what it was like working behind the scenes during one of biggest stories of the last decade.
