Welcome to Pocket-Sized Podcasting, brought to you by Alitu: The Podcast Maker. And on this episode, we’re talking about pitching to traditional media outlets like newspapers and radio. With a compelling story, you can draw new eyes or ears to your podcast. Some of the folks reading or listening might be in your target audience, and those are the ones you’re hoping will check out your show. Of course, it isn’t enough to go and tell your local paper you run a podcast. They’ll just think “okay, so what?”. Instead, there needs to be a compelling human story there. Some examples could be - Podcaster helps listener launch their own business after they were made redundant - Podcaster helps listener to learn Spanish and land dream tourism job - Podcaster helps budding young author to win short story competition The story doesn’t need to be about a listener, either, it could be about you - Podcaster was given a month to live. Now she’s helping others battle back from cancer - Podcaster had a childhood speech impediment. Now they talk to hundreds - Podcaster was rejected from art school. Now, show has helped them to sell first painting Notice that these focus on a transformation. Journalists love that stuff, and it’s the very basis of any story ever told. So what’s your story? If you're posting regularly on social media are you actually marketing your business? (Really?) My short answer is no, you're not. But it's a lot more nuanced than that.   Sure, social media creates an online presence for you. But the way most people are “doing” social media is not doing anything to help market their business. Instead, they're simply making more noise.   This week on the podcast, I'm sharing why social media isn't “really” marketing if that's all you're doing, and what to do instead. In this week's episode of The Best Guest we're talking about some of the different ways you can leverage social media to promote your podcast appearances.Key TakeawaysConnect with the host before the interview: Building rapport and a relationship with the host through social media engagement helps create a positive impression and boosts your confidence during the recording. It also positions you favorably for sharing posts about the episode when the host tags you.Share pre-interview posts: Prior to the interview, create posts on platforms like Twitter or Instagram to announce your upcoming appearance on the podcast. By tagging the host and showcasing your preparation, you demonstrate active promotion of your appearance, which can lead to additional exposure when the host shares your posts.Create teasers and previews: With permission, generate interest and anticipation for the episode by hinting at topics discussed or sharing snippets of the conversation. These teasers can be shared on social media to encourage the audience to tune in and engage with the upcoming episode.Engage with the host's posts when the episode goes live: By actively engaging with the host's social media posts, you express gratitude for the opportunity, strengthen your relationship, and increase the visibility of the episode. Engaging with the host's audience and sparking conversations further expands networking opportunities and showcases your expertise, contributing to your personal branding as a thought leader.Repurpose podcast content: Utilize the podcast interview as a source of content for your social media. Break up the interview into snippets, highlight key moments or quotes, create quote graphics, share behind-the-scenes photos or anecdotes, and consider hosting a post-interview Q&A session. Repurposing content maximizes the value of the interview, provides diverse content formats, and engages your audience in different ways. Collaborating with the host on cross-promotion amplifies exposure to both audiences and encourages joint content creation such as videos or live streams.Bonus: Encourage audience reviews and testimonials: Request your audience to leave reviews or testimonials about the episode and share them on social media. This not only increases exposure and attracts more listeners but also enhances your credibility and strengthens your relationship with the host.Connect with Victoria BennionBook your free podcast guesting strategy session today. To learn more about working with us visit www.victoriabennion.com

If you're a podcaster looking to expand your audience and increase your reach, exploring different promotion strategies is essential. While many people think of Pinterest as just a social media platform for DIY crafts and home decor inspiration, it can actually be a powerful tool for promoting your podcast and attracting new listeners. In today's episode, digital marketing expert Amber joins Kristin. Amber explores in detail the benefit of using Pinterest to promote your podcast.    When you're unfamiliar with Pinterest, it can feel overwhelming. Do you hear keywords, boards, pins, and descriptions and immediately want to give up? Well, it may seem overwhelming, but it's a platform that can serve you for years and years to come! As Amber says, Pinterest is like the undercurrent you don't think about.    Kristin and Amber talk all things Pinterest and podcasting from: Figuring out the right keywords for your niche Diving deeper into what you people are searching for How to write a good pin description  Understanding that Pinterest is not another social media platform Creating content that you can use over and over again    Unlike other social media platforms, Pinterest is a search engine, meaning users actively search for content related to their interests. Success doesn't come from just one thing—it actually comes from a million little things. This concept was shared by an awesome friend, Scott Johnson, who is part of theTotal Life Freedom Community. Scott owns a business servicing computers, but he also has a podcast that recently reached 5 million downloads. The podcast is called What Was That Like and the link can be found in the resources below. His show contains interviews with unique people—there's an episode interviewing someone who was mauled by a bear and another with someone who was on the Price Is Right with Bob Barker. Recently, on a Total Life Freedom Community call, Scott was talking about the success of his podcast. He said that people always want to know the one thing that he did to create success in his podcast, but pointed out that it was never just one thing—it was a million little things, and that was like a mic drop moment because it's so true. I want to share some of the things that Scott does, some of which can apply to your business as Realtors. He promotes his podcast in many ways—he finds guests using the free program “Promote Your Podcast” and he posts on all the social media platforms. The same concept applies perfectly to your real estate business. If you want to have success, you don't put all your eggs in one basket. Think about social media, answering questions on Reddit, Google, all these different things are little things that can grow your business. Stop thinking so much about the big thing that has to be done in your business and start thinking about the million little things—the little things each day that take a couple of minutes but make all the difference in creating success in your real estate business. There's no point in promoting something you don't recognise has value. Find out who your listeners are because then you can figure out where your audience is and promote to them It's more valuable to advertise in one or two key spaces than to spread yourself thin across many multiple platforms and places. BEST MOMENTS “Everyone wants the secret magic answer but there are some things you can look out for to grow your show in a meaningful way” “When someone listens to your podcast you're stealing their time” “Have an audience avatar for who your best listeners are” “You can really easily spread yourself too thin” VALUABLE RESOURCES Free Podcast Workshop bit.ly/podcast-support ABOUT THE HOSTS Kane Baron, Ashley Morris & Thom Luter manage over 150 live podcasts Including Rob Moore, Kevin Clifton, Shaa Wasmand MBE & more. Helping Entrepreneurs Launch, Scale & Monetise their podcast for over 6 years. That's the the best part of of your decision to start a podcast. So at the end of the day, there are many, many different things you can kind of get from it, whether that was the initial goal or not, but you can meet a lot of different people through networking. If you don't know where to start with content, I almost think that you start with a podcast. At the beginning, we said that consistency is key to pretty much business marketing, podcasting, and sports, almost everything. So just keep going and don't kind of leave it after two or three episodes. If you are to start one, you know, just by continuing, you're gonna find success. We talk in marketing a lot about being consistent, I think, with podcasts, and it really does make a difference.A podcast is a great way if you're looking to create content. And to me, I guess the the most important thing here is to to produce quality content. You don't need to have this massive subject that doesn't doesn't give the listeners enough value. Just make sure you have the the right content and put all your efforts into it.There are a lot of different things you could use to actually bring a better experience and a better you know, just improve your listeners experience, that's the probably the bottom line. And then you also have a direct channel with them. Keep releasing quality content and be consistent. And that's probably the bread and butter of you know, podcasting. Guest Links:PodcastPage.io: https://podcastpage.ioLearn More:Join My Digital First Mastermind: https://nealschaffer.com/membership/ Learn about My Fractional CMO Consulting Services: https://nealschaffer.com/cmoDownload My Free Ebooks Here: https://nealschaffer.com/freebies/Subscribe to my YouTube Channel: https://youtube.com/nealschafferAll My Podcast Show Notes: https://podcast.nealschaffer.com

Some of the folks reading or listening might be in your target audience, and those are the ones you're hoping will check out your show. Of course, it isn't enough to go and tell your local paper you run a podcast. They'll just think “okay, so what?”. Instead, there needs to be a compelling human story there. Some examples could be - Podcaster helps listener launch their own business after they were made redundant - Podcaster helps listener to learn Spanish and land dream tourism job - Podcaster helps budding young author to win short story competition The story doesn't need to be about a listener, either, it could be about you - Podcaster was given a month to live. You can prepare the guest by asking them to please share the episode after it publishes, and make sure that the quality of the podcast is good to increase t. 2. COMPLIMENT THE GUEST TO BUILD TRUST & CONFIDENCEComplimenting starts when you pitch them to come on the show! Tell them after the interview what an amazing job they did and be specific about things they said that were meaningful to you. Chances are, you're missing the two big links in your content and marketing strategy. Sure, you're publishing content regularly. You might be emailing your audience at least semi consistently. And this is great for nurturing the people who are already following you.   But are you leveraging other people's audiences so you can put together the pieces of minimum viable content marketing? I'm going to take a wild guess and say no, you're not.   The most common complaint I hear from podcasters is that they're struggling to grow their audience. Their email list isn't growing. And their social media isn't getting any interaction.   It's no wonder, because they're doing little to grow any of these.   This week on the podcast, I'm again sharing why leveraging other people's audiences is key to the success of your content marketing. And I'm also sharing a bit on how to put all these pieces together.
