“I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how made them feel.” Maya Angelou Tune in for Food First Michigan this Sunday at 9 PM to hear from Dr. Phil Knight, Gerry Brisson, president and CEO of Gleaners Community Food Bank, and Rob Fowler, CEO of the Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM). Rob has served as president and CEO of SBAM for over 20 years and has been an exceptional leader during his tenure. SBAM has grown significantly in size and influence as stands in the gap for small business owners and families across the state. Rob has announced his retirement beginning in the New Year, with Brian Calley becoming SBAM's new president and CEO. Phil, Gerry, and Rob discuss the “Fowlerisms” from Rob throughout the years on Food First Michigan. One of Rob's most profound “Fowlerisms” being, ‘the fastest way out of poverty is entrepreneurship – the sheerest way out is education.' Many of us see “Help Wanted” signs in storefronts as of late, and it's a GOOD thing! Prior to the pandemic, people many were working 2-3 jobs making $10-$12/hour, but are now working less jobs and making $15-$17/hour. Rob is changemaker – him and his team worked tirelessly to increase the minimum wage for our fellow Michiganders. Although Rob is retiring from SBAM, there is no doubt that he will continue to use his one handful of life to better those around him. Who Wins When We Win? This is a saying you have heard often on Food First Michigan. We've outlined how education, healthcare, and our communities all win. And, how businesses win when food insecurity is no longer an issue. Healthier and happier people being de-stressed about the basic needs, enables them to be more and highly productive members of a team. Taking hunger off of the table for employees means greater profits for companies, big or small. “A big business starts small.” - Richard Branson Tune in for Food First Michigan with Dr. Phil Knight, Gerry Brisson, president and CEO of Gleaners Community Food Bank, and Rob Fowler, CEO of the Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM), tonight at 11 PM or tomorrow at 9 PM on WJR Radio. Rob is no stranger to excellence and growth as he has led SBAM to major growth over the past 21 years. SBAM started with approximately 5,000 members and has since grown to 30,000 members! Rob recently announced his retirement and shared his excitement for Brian Calley, president of SBAM, to become the new CEO as well. Rob has dedicated a large portion of his life to standing in the gap for the families who own small businesses, specifically aiming to be the voice of small businesses amid the pandemic. With Michigan being the 5th most expensive state for childcare, parents were put in an even harder place than they already were to begin with. Phil, Gerry, and Rob delve into the benefits cliff, the Self-Sufficiency Standard for Michigan [https://bit.ly/3hYyt1K], and policy changes. The benefits cliff has been around for far too long. It did not arise due to the pandemic and the pandemic has heightened its impact on Michiganders. Wouldn’t it be tremendous if work supports, food, childcare, and housing actually supported work? Instead, we de-incentivize work with policies currently in place. When people are finally able to earn $13 / hour, they become ineligible for work supports, but are still $6 - $8 away from being self-sufficient. SBAM has stood strong and firmly on work supports and helping the families that are impacted. The first step out of poverty is food security; you cannot focus on solving any other toxic stressors if you are not well fed. George Washington Carver’s quote, “No one has the right to come into this world and go out of it without leaving behind him or her a distinct and legitimate reason for having passed through it,” embodies Rob. Although Rob is retiring, we have no doubt that he will continue to go into the world and do good! A long-nosed Potoroo caught on a Reconyx HC600 camera during a nightly forage for truffles Photo courtesy of Vivianna Miritis As we've seen from recent reports Australia's environment is in decline due to the inadequacy of current laws and the Federal government's failure to administer the laws adequately and resource data collection. Rob Fowler is an Adjunct Professor in Environmental Law from the University of South Australia. He led the team of environmental law experts who developed the APEEL Report a blueprint for the next generarion of Australian environmental laws published in 2017. We discuss the Interim Report of the Samuel Review of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act and his concerns that the Federal government is moving too quickly to devolve responsibility to the states. If you want to participate in the survey responding to the Interiim report of the Review of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act click here. The long-nosed potoroo has been declared vulnerable due to loss of habitat and predation by foxes and feral cats. Vivianna Miritis investigated the interaction between long-nosed potoroos and feral cats during her honours research conducted at Deakin University. There were a few surprises as she explains. Vivianna is now enrolled in a PhD at the Unviversity of Sydney where she's looking at ways of advancing fauna conservation in post fire landscapes.

Show #855   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Saturday 1st August 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Welcome to a new Patreon Premium Partner and that's Derek Reilly from EV Review Ireland youtube channel.          Tesla Model 3 Long Range, Corsa-e and even a NIU Electric Scooter. Search Youtube for EV Review Ireland. LEAF 62, IONIQ, ZOE, e-208, Mini electric all coming over the next few months. No matter what country you live in, even with the channel name of EV Review Ireland, Derek's reviews will give you the info you need when considering an EV. He will also be reviewing electric kick scooters, and doing more with electric bicycles, and even the LDV van coming  to review in a few weeks.   TESLA HIRING PRODUCTION ASSOCIATES FOR NEW PILOT BATTERY CELL LINE "With Tesla's Battery Day – which has been pushed back on numerous occasions – finally just around the corner, in addition to regular tidbits of information popping related to the automaker's "Roadrunner" project and "Project Palladium," the company is now officially hiring." says InsideEVs: "It comes as no surprise Tesla is hiring for its battery cell production line, which is reportedly opening soon, though Tesla has yet to confirm many specifics related to the battery manufacturing system or projects. We do know it will run the new battery line 24/7 with four shifts and some 100 workers. The automaker is now seeking 'Production Associates' and a 'Controls Engineering Manager.' These new employees will work on Tesla's pilot battery cell production line. On Tuesday, September 22, 2020, on the same day as Tesla's Annual Meeting of Stockholders, we should have many more details thanks to Tesla's Battery Day."   https://insideevs.com/news/436867/tesla-hiring-pilot-battery-cell-production-line/   PANASONIC AIMS TO BOOST ENERGY DENSITY IN TESLA BATTERIES BY 20% "Panasonic Corp (6752.T) plans to boost the energy density of “2170” battery cells it supplies to Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) by 20% in five years and commercialize a cobalt-free version “in two to three years”, the head of its U.S. EV battery business said." according to a Reuters report: "This is the first time Panasonic, a leading cell provider for the world’s top electric vehicle (EV) maker Tesla, has outlined these targets, putting down a marker in a highly competitive sector to stay ahead of the game. Panasonic introduced the “2170” lithium-ion cells, with the nickel-cobalt-aluminium (NCA) cathode chemistry, for Tesla’s Model 3 in 2017. Researchers say it already has the highest energy density at above 700 watt-hour per litre. A cobalt-free version on the other hand would cut reliance on a costly and controversial component, which makes batteries stable but poses ethical issues given controversial labour conditions in top producer the Democratic Republic of Congo. From September, the firm will start converting lines at its factory in Nevada that it operates with Tesla as it prepares to further boost the energy density of the cells. CATL is supplying Tesla with low-cost lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries that contain no cobalt.  "   https://www.reuters.com/article/us-panasonic-tesla-exclusive/exclusive-panasonic-aims-to-boost-energy-density-in-tesla-batteries-by-20-executive-idUSKCN24V1GB   GM WILL HELP EVGO TRIPLE ITS FAST CHARGER NETWORK IN THE US "General Motors is working with electric vehicle charging network EVgo to build more than 2,700 new fast chargers in cities and suburbs across the US over the next five years. That is more than triple the 800 fast chargers that EVgo currently has on its network, which is in 34 states and serves “more than 200,000 customers.”" says The Verge: "The buildout will help EVgo keep pace with other growing fast-charging networks. Tesla boasts 2,000 Supercharger stations (and 18,000 stalls) worldwide, and Volkswagen’s new Electrify America network is already up to 452 stations in the US. The new stations will be “located in highly visible areas and most will be able to charge at least four vehicles simultaneously,” according to a press release, and will be able to charge at rates between 100kW to 350kW. They won’t be exclusive to GM vehicles, and the first chargers that are part of this new buildout will be available in early 2021. The two companies are targeting around 40 different metropolitan markets."   https://www.theverge.com/2020/7/31/21349614/general-motors-evgo-fast-charging-network-investment   VOLTA TRUCKS & DPD BRING FULL-ELECTRIC LARGE COMMERCIAL VEHICLE PARCEL DELIVERIES TO LONDON’S ULTRA LOW EMISSION ZONE Volta Trucks, the Scandinavian start-up full-electric vehicle manufacturer, will soon start a pilot test of its forthcoming Volta Zero with DPD, the UK’s leading parcel delivery service. The Volta Zero will be tested by DPD within London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone in Q1-2021, supporting their micro-depot strategy in Westminster.   Rob Fowler, Chief Executive Officer of Volta Trucks, added: As the world’s first purpose- built full-electric large commercial vehicle, the Volta Zero was specifically designed to deliver parcels and freight in inner city locations where today’s air quality and noise pollution challenges are at their worst. The Volta Zero’s full-electric, zero-emission operation is perfectly suited to DPD’s distribution requirements within London’s strict Ultra Low Emission Zone, delivering parcels to Central London’s customers in a clean and efficient way.”   EV WEST WANTS TO BREAK AN ELECTRIC SPEED RECORD "The electric powertrain nerds at EV West are doing everything they can to propel Southern California hot rod culture into the future. Electric drivetrain swaps in old cars are their bread and butter, but in the process they’ve realized just how fast these things can be. With a custom tube-chassis, a slippery aerodynamic body, a hopped-up Tesla motor, and a rack of high-tech batteries, these mad scientists are aiming for an electric land speed record."  reports Jalopnik: "We do know that the Electraliner will have 294 individual Panasonic battery cells for a total of 357 volts, which sounds like a lot. We know that the team plans to haul a small solar array out to the salt for charging purposes, keeping their three swappable racks of batteries topped up between runs. We know that the plan is to only use the top 50 percent of each battery pack, as power drops off precipitously after that. And we know that the whole kit and kaboodle will be cooled with 5 gallons of ice water poured in right before each run."   https://jalopnik.com/ev-west-wants-to-break-the-electric-speed-record-at-bon-1844577249   You can listen to all 854 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically.   It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I’ll catch you tomorrow and remember…there’s no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.     PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRAD CROSBY (PREMIUM PARTNER) AVID TECHNOLOGY (PREMIUM PARTNER) PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI (PREMIUM PARTNER) AUDI CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM  (PREMIUM PARTNER) DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL (PREMIUM PARTNER)   DAVID AND LISA ALLEN (PARTNER) OEM AUDIO OF NEW ZEALAND AND EVPOWER.CO.NZ (PARTNER) GARETH HAMER eMOBILITY NORWAY HTTPS://WWW.EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/  (PARTNER) BOB BOOTHBY – MILLBROOK COTTAGES AND ELOPEMENT WEDDING VENUE (PARTNER)   ALAN ROBSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALAN SHEDD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEX BANAHENE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEXANDER FRANK @ https://www.youtube.com/c/alexsuniverse42 ANDERS HOVE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREA JEFFERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASEER KHALID (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASHLEY HILL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BÅRD FJUKSTAD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRENT KINGSFORD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRIAN THOMPSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRUCE BOHANNAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHARLES HALL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRIS HOPKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) COLIN HENNESSY AND CAMBSEV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG COLES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG ROGERS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAMIEN DAVIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DARREN FEATCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVE DEWSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID FINCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID MOORE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PARTINGTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PRESCOTT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DON MCALLISTER / SCREENCASTSONLINE.COM (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERU KYEYUNE-NYOMBI (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) FREDRIK ROVIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GENE RUBIN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GILBERTO ROSADO (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GEOFF LOWE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEDLEY WRIGHT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN GRIFFITHS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN SEAR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN (WATTIE) WATKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JACK OAKLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAMES STORR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JIM MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODICERS) JOHN C SOLAR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE FROM KENT EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON MANCHAK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JUAN GONZALEZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEN MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEVIN MEYERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KYLE MAHAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LARS DAHLAGER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LAURENCE D ALLEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LEE BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LUKE CULLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARCEL WARD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARK BOSSERT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARTY YOUNG  (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MATT PISCIONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIA OPPELSTRUP (PARTNER) MICHAEL PASTRONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIKE WINTER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHAN GORE-BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NEIL E ROBERTS FROM SUSSEX EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NIGEL MILES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) OHAD ASTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL RIDINGS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER)               PAUL STEPHENSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GLASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GORTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETER & DEE ROBERTS FROM OXON EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER)  PHIL MOUCHET (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHILIP TRAUTMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAJ BADWAL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAJEEV NARAYAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENE KEEMIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENÉ SCHNEIDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RICHARD LUPINSKY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB HERMANS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB FROM THE RSTHINKS EV CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RUPERT MITCHELL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) SEIKI PAYNE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEPHEN PENN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEVE JOHN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) THOMAS J. DJ Jeff and I talked for even longer than our previous sit-down (which I haven't uploaded due to the microphone catching loud gusts of wind across its entire duration) and got into all sorts of new territory within the field of line dance, skipping over much of the background information and personal history topics that we had previously covered at length. I won't spoil too much of this one for you with a detailed summary, I'll just say that I had a lot of fun getting excited about future possibilities for line dance and heated over opinions that I'm sure many of you hardcore enthusiasts out there will share or at least understand; leave a comment if you agree or disagree with anything in particular!Correction regarding the members of Masters in Line, which I mentioned in the second half of the video: "In 2002, as part of an exciting new venture, Rachael joined forces with leading industry personalities Pedro Machado, Rob Fowler, Paul McAdam, and established business woman and promoter Barbara Blake. Together they formed ‘Masters In Line’, a dance events company that specialized in competitive and social Line Dance events." - from http://dancewithrachael.com/Dance_with_Rachael_McEnaney/About_Me.htmlAlso, from the "line dance" Wikipedia entry: "Max Perry, along with Jo Thompson, Scott Blevins and several others, began to use ballroom rhythms and technique to take line dancing to the next level." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_danceI got some of my names and associations crossed in the heat of the moment. :)"

Humphrey Lyttelton's eight-piece band featured, aside from himself on the trumpet and clarinet: Ray Wordsworth  on the trombone; Jimmy Hastings on the alto sax, clarinet and flute; Jo Fooks on the tenor saxophone and flute; Rob Fowler on the tenor sax, baritone sax and clarinet; Ted Beament on the piano; John Rees-Jones on the double bass and Adrian Macintosh on the drums. The band maintained a busy schedule, frequently performing sold-out shows across the country. Performances occasionally included a guest singer, or a collaboration with another band. During the 1990s the band toured with Helen Shapiro in a series of Humph and Helen concerts. They also featured in several Giants of British Jazz tours with Acker Bilk and George Melly and John Chilton's Feetwarmers.Lyttelton had a long established professional relationship with UK singer Elkie Brooks. After working together in the early 1960s they rekindled their working partnership in early 2000 with a series of sold out and well received concert performances. They released the critically acclaimed album Trouble in Mind in 2003 and continued to perform occasional concerts in support of this work.
