St. Patrick's Day is almost here. So it's time to definitively answer the old question. Is it Saint Paddy‘s day or Saint Patty‘s day? You can do that PubSong.com or Just send an email to follow@celtfather. 5:39 - IS IT ST PADDY'S DAY OR ST PATTY'S DAY St Paddy's Day is the shortened version of St Patrick's Day. However, that shortened name is often misspelled. It should be spelled Paddy. Not Patty. Patty is a girls name. Paddy is short for the Irish name Padraig. That's from my 11 St Patrick's Day Facts episode of this podcast. I learned from The Daily Difference, the newsletter of the Carbon Almanac that the Episocopal Church used their environmental voice with their wallet. In 2015, the Episcopal Church made a commitment to divest fossil fuel investments from its holdings of around $500 million. And they honored that commitment just before the end of 2024. We all have the power of our voice, our wallet and our time to support climate initiatives. We are all in a weird position these days. There's a billionaire stripping government services from people who need them, just so he can get a huge tax cut. No matter where you stand on that situation, I don't think there's a single person in America who think that billionaires and corporations need a tax cut. Let me know if I'm wrong. Sadly, we may not have the power to stop corporate entitlements. But we do have the power of our wallets. We can support businesses and organizations who are doing good things to protect the environment and protect individuals like you and me. Take a moment and think about where your money is going. If you're gonna play the stock market, will you consider divesting your fossil fuel investments? 9:02 - Marc Gunn “Blue Sun” from As Long As I'm Flyin' Learn more about Blue Sun in this episode. This is episode rerun with Seth Godin from Episode 157 In a world that changes at blinding speed, the difference between success and failure is often a question of learning to adapt in a way that will serve your customers. What are some of the most important differences between marketing in the past and marketing in 2023, and how can you utilize these changes to grow your business?  Join Meny Hoffman as he asks entrepreneur, best-selling author, world-famous blogger, and marketing guru Seth Godin about why advertising doesn't work anymore, Seth's fascinating innovations, the difference between permission marketing and interruption marketing, how to limit your audience in order to grow your business, why being first is overrated, the reason that you should lead your company like a surfer rather than a golfer, ways to integrate AI into your operations, and much more.  Seth Godin is an entrepreneur, best-selling author, and speaker. In addition to launching one of the most popular blogs in the world, he has written 21 best-selling books, including The Dip, Linchpin, Purple Cow, Tribes, and What To Do When It's Your Turn (And It's Always Your Turn). His book, This is Marketing, was an instant bestseller in countries around the world. In 2013, Seth was one of just three professionals inducted into the Direct Marketing Hall of Fame, and he was also inducted into the Marketing Hall of Fame as well in 2018. (He might be the only person in both.) Practical Pointers: Embrace the Purple Cow Concept: Seth Godin's idea of the purple cow emphasizes creating products or services that are truly remarkable and stand out in the marketplace. Focus on innovation and uniqueness to capture attention and drive word-of-mouth marketing. Craft Remarkable Experiences: Invest in creating memorable and exceptional customer experiences. This can differentiate your brand and foster loyalty, encouraging repeat business and positive referrals. Leverage Permission-Based Marketing: Build a marketing strategy that prioritizes obtaining permission to communicate with your audience. This approach respects customer privacy and increases the likelihood of engagement and conversion. Cut Through the Marketing Clutter: In a saturated market, it's crucial to develop clear, compelling messages that resonate with your target audience. Use storytelling and emotional connections to make your marketing efforts stand out. Target Specific Audiences with Unique Offerings: Focus on creating products or services tailored to the needs and desires of a specific audience. This targeted approach can lead to higher customer satisfaction and stronger brand loyalty.   Timestamps: - Purple Cow by Seth Godin: 00:01:03 - Seth Godin's books: 00:02:21 - Permission Marketing by Seth Godin: 00:08:15 - Phone automation for restaurants in New York City: 00:17:58 - The Long Tail concept: 00:19:06 - The Song of Significance book: 00:20:19 - The Carbon Almanac: 00:26:23 - AI and its impact on businesses: 00:29:45 - The blog of the speaker: 00:34:25 - The Song of Significance: 00:20:19 - The Zen Master story: 00:32:00 - The new Mission Impossible movie: 00:31:45 - AI, electricity, and their impact on the world: 00:30:52 - The Art of Possibility by Ben Zander and Roz Zander: 00:36:23   Key Quotes:   “Marketing is telling a true story that resonates with your smallest viable audience that they want to hear, that causes them to take action and to tell their friends.” - Seth Godin “Sales is what happens when we add unscalable human emotion to the marketing equation.” - Seth Godin “Leadership is voluntary. In case you missed it, Tristan Ahumada had an insightful conversation with Seth Godin. This episode originally aired June 2.  When surveying 10,000 people in 90 countries for his latest book, The Song of Significance, Seth Godin found that the top response for an aspect of the best job participants had ever had was not money, which Godin says is a common assumption of bosses, but being allowed to feel challenged at work in a healthy way. However, from an industrialist mindset, employees having agency (that is, freedom plus responsibility) and significance in their work is not the top priority of employers—instead, they want to exert control and gain obedience, according to Godin. Godin has learned from the many experiences and jobs he's had throughout his life, including his first job as an underqualified 23-year-old in a company making computer games for kids and, more recently, as a volunteer running The Carbon Almanac. Now, he discusses some of those lessons with Brilliant Thoughts host Tristan Ahumada, as well as industrial capitalism and its connection to schooling, “page 19 thinking” and the uses of AI, as well as the necessity of understanding it before you choose to ignore it.  ---- Mentioned: Song of Increase by Jacqueline Freeman Stop Stealing Dreams by Seth Godin The Principles of Scientific Management by Frederick Taylor The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber Seth Godin is a bestselling author, entrepreneur and speaker.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jo Petroni is an architect based in rural France, and she is the founder of Permarchitecture. She believes in "listening to your land," which is a way to observe the land where we live and build with curiosity and humility—and ultimately reconnect with nature. Jo is also an illustrator and climate change communicator. She is a co-creator of and contributor to the Carbon Almanac and she has an "Epistolary" of letters to imaginary friends published on Substack. Jo and show host Neal discussed how Jo aspired to be an architect since she was a young child, the adventurous path that led her to her current home in medieval village in France, and how she built her business over Zoom meetings while living as a digital nomad. They go in depth about Jo's approach to architecture—incorporating sustainability and regenerative principles—and how to design while maintaining a deep connection to place. They also talk about the challenges of implementing regenerative and permaculture principles, and the importance of public communication about sustainability. Welcome to episode #883 of Six Pixels of Separation - The ThinkersOne Podcast. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - The ThinkersOne Podcast - Episode #883. I could not tell you how many times Seth Godin has been a guest on this show. I don't say this to brag. I state this, because he has (truly) influenced everything from my thinking about work and the future, to how I've built worked on my own professional development and career (more on that here: Dear Seth Godin). As soon as I caught wind that he was publishing a new book, The Song Of Significance, I locked in a time for us to not only discuss this incredible book/manifesto about what it means to be human, to be a part of a team, and to make work that really matters, but to also drill down into how the world is changing (artificial intelligence, politics, work from home, being an entrepreneur and more). For those who don't know, Seth is an oracle. He has been sparking minds and inspiring people to level up for over three decades. His daily blog, a beacon of wisdom and insight, has been my constant in the ever-changing digital landscape for more than ten years (when he first started publishing). Seth is an artist with words. He's the author of 20 bestselling books, translated into nearly 40 languages. Also worth noting is his Carbon Almanac project. And Seth's journey isn't a straight path. It's filled with intriguing detours and exciting projects. In 2015, Seth brought to life the altMBA, a transformative 30-day workshop that's changed countless lives. It's part of Akimbo, an independently owned B corp, crafting innovative ways to learn. Seth's online courses, including The Marketing Seminar and several on Udemy, have been taken by over 60,000 people. He's a member of the Guerrilla Marketing Hall of Fame, the Direct Marketing Hall of Fame, and most recently, the Marketing Hall of Fame. Seth's free ebooks on the placebo effect and education are worth a read, and his five TED Talks are a must-watch. So, with that... let's get into his new book and the changing world of work, building a business worth working for and the future. Enjoy the conversation... Running time: 58:22.

If you listen to the Meaning Movement, if you listen to the show, I know you have wrestled with some of those ideas. But then there's also the rest of life outside of your work and your career.   Most of us realize that it's a both/and situation: there's some aspect of meaning and purpose to be found in our day-to-day work life, and there's some to be found outside of that.  My in conversation with Paige NeJame, we get to dig right into these ideas directly. Paige is a volunteer with the Carbon Almanac network. I met her volunteering there as well. She's a writer. She is a long time entrepreneur, small business owner. Seth Godin joins the Passion Struck podcast to discuss The Carbon Almanac and why tackling climate change requires changing the system. One of the things that we need to understand about the climate crisis is that we cannot simply reduce our way out of this problem. We have a systems problem. And the system problem is very simple: carbon extracted from the ground in the form of concrete, combustion, and cows is underpriced. We have been stealing from our future by burning stuff way too cheap. -► Purchase the Carbon Almanac: https://amzn.to/3RFHTxE (Amazon Link) -► Get the full show notes: https://passionstruck.com/jason-feifer-build-for-tomorrow-embracing-change/  --► Prefer to watch this interview: https://youtu.be/xK0RK4GWbq8  --► Subscribe to Our YouTube Channel Here: https://www.youtube.com/c/JohnRMiles --► Subscribe to the Passion Struck Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/passion-struck-with-john-r-miles/id1553279283  Thank you, Dry Farm Wines, For Your Support Dry Farm Wines Have No Chemical Additives for Aroma, Color, Flavor, or Texture Enhancement. Dry Farm Wines - The Only Natural Wine Club That Goes Above and Beyond Industry Standards. I talk about a song called “Lads in the Shire”. The lyrics were inspired by Wolf Loescher's song. Though of course, they are about Lord of the Rings, which is rather timely since a new Lord of the Rings prequel is coming to Prime Video next month.  18:42 - FEEDBACK 21:36 - Andreas Transø "If" from The Earth and Everything in It 24:32 - Sharon Shannon "Pull Out The Stops" from Sacred Earth 27:40 - McKasson & McDonald "Mark the Hard Earth" from Harbour 32:39 - Gerry O'Beirne & Rosie Shipley "Air" from Yesterday I Saw the Earth Beautiful 34:14 - THANKS 36:11 - CELTIC MUSIC STORY A few weeks back, I was reading Lissa Schneckenburger's email. Lissa is a fantastic Celtic musician from Vermont. She has a great newsletter where she inspires you to practice. In one email, she was talking about Summer Road Trips. She mentioned the Sustainable Touring Arts Coalition on how to make your travel as sustainable as possible. Her friend Laura Cortese toured plastic free. And Lissa did a tour with her husband and son on a bicycle! I'll let her tell the story 41:28 - Lissa Schneckenburger "The 11th Labor of Hercules" from Thunder in My Arms 44:40 – SUSTAINABILITY I found Lissa's story extremely inspiring. Obviously, I'm concerned about our carbon impact on the climate which is why I mentioned the Carbon Almanac in a past podcast. Her story got me excited. I went down a rabbit hole looking into sustainability in the music industry. I found a few resources, but not much. So I've been looking into ways that I can make my music career and podcasting career more sustainable.  One of the coolest things that Lissa Schneckenburger's story inspired me to do is to make my own bike gig plans. With any luck, I will announce at least one bike show this Fall. I'd love your thoughts and feedback. Have you seen any Celtic musicians working hard to support our environment? What did they do? Please email me. 46:21 - Old Man Flanagan's Ghost "May" from Sociable 51:22 - Harmundi "Farewell To Thom" from Um Orvalho Boreal 55:56 - Jamison Celtic Rock "The Most Irish Girl in America" from Heyhowrya 59:07 - CLOSING 59:46 - Niamh Parsons “Green Grass It Grows Bonny” from In My Prime The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast was produced by Marc Gunn, The Celtfather. There are over 300 amazingly generous people who pledge $1, $5, $10, $25 or more each and every week to support the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. I am super grateful to each for their generosity. But sometimes, I screw up. I forget to charge for an episode. That happened this week. The money came in from last month's Patreon pledges. I was $500 short what I normally get each month. As you might imagine, I was a bit shocked. I realized immediately that I didn't charge for one of the episodes last month. That shortfall has a big impact on my life and business. I emailed my patrons and let them know about the problem. I was flooded with small donations and large ones from people who wanted to help make up that shortfall. So I want to take a moment to thank each and every Patron of the Podcast who sent in money to help me meet my financial goals for this month. I have a lot of new artist music I am buying this month. So that helps immensely.
