Today I'm having a conversation with my friend Theresa Garvin, who is a LICSW, a transformational coach, and the owner and founder of The Life You Imagine. Theresa has been providing psychotherapy services to children, teens, adults, and families for over 35 years. After seeing the positive and rapid changes in her own life from transformational coaching, she became certified as a Life Mastery Consultant in 2020, and has been providing coaching to adults since then. After sharing with one another that we both have ADHD, Theresa recommended that I read the book A Radical Guide for Women with ADHD by Sari Solden MS, who pioneered working with women and ADHD , and Michelle Frank, PsyD. Not only is this book a comprehensive guide for women with ADHD to increase their understanding and self-acceptance but Solden and Frank also take the reader through an action plan for women with ADHD to identify and pursue their dreams. This book affirmed for both Theresa and me why we love our work as coaches. Although Theresa helps adults and families decide what they want to transform in four main areas of their life, while I help people to create and take action on a vision for their health, we both provide principles, practices, support, and guidance for our clients to create powerful results in their lives which they absolutely love! Theresa can be reached at: https://www.lifeyouimagine.org https://www.facebook.com/theresa.h.garvin/ where you can check out her launching the book, Short Sweet and Sacred, Volume 3

Culture encourages girls and women to exhibit both traditional “feminine” qualities, such as being empathic, good with relationships, nice, obedient, good mothers, and home-organizers, as well as traditional “masculine” qualities, such as being assertive, competitive, academically driven, and career-focused. However, when girls display disruptive, hyperactive, impulsive, or disorganized behavior, they are at risk of harsher social judgment compared to their male counterparts because they violate the feminine societal norms. For starters, ADHD and resulting Executive Dysfunction in girls and women can turn their lives upside down and in an attempt to avoid social sanctions, many of them spend excessive amounts of energy trying to hide their challenges, which in turn go unnoticed and hence untreated. On this episode, psychotherapist, consultant and author, Sari Solden, discusses why girls and women with ADHD get diagnosed much later than a typical child with ADHD and how best to help alleviate their personal shame and struggles with the unrelenting societal pressure of needing to “prove it to the world” that they are worthy to be given opportunities. An essential component of improving Executive Function skills is building self-knowledge and constructing a personal narrative of a wholesome self that recognizes the common humanity in all of our experiences. Instead of framing self-work or self-change as “fixing something that is broken”, the best therapeutic way to empower girls and women with ADHD is to help them invest in their own future-self.About Sari Solden, MSSari Solden, M.S, is a psychotherapist who has counseled adults with ADHD for over 30 years. She is the author of the books, Women with Attention Deficit Disorder, Journeys Through ADDulthood, and co-author of A Radical Guide for Women with ADHD. Her areas of specialization include women's issues, inattentive ADHD, and the emotional consequences and healing process for adults who grew up with undiagnosed ADHD. She is a prominent keynote speaker on these subjects nationally and internationally. Ms. Solden currently consults with neurodiverse women mental health and helping professionals, as well as trains therapists in how to help women with ADHD. Though they were often referred to as ‘parablocks', but in fact they were called ‘parablacks'. The reason was that the inventor was called Gunther Schwartz. They were partly to stop skiers crossing 'the sharp ends' but they were widely used in World Cup speed events because they had the effect of dampening the ski and filtering out vibration. Marker developed their own version which had a weight suspended by springs, it was intended as a more active 'suspension' for ski racers, though the thing weighed a ton. The earliest ones were simply plastic boxes but the last version was a spring loaded coat hanger wire affair which stopped your tips crossing but folded flat if you tried to uncross them” BobinCH (snowheads): "Gethin on Solden in October [Episode 159] was an interesting listen" Richard_Sideways (snowheads): "Nice podcast as usual" Elements.biz: "Super interesting conversations [in Episode 160]. US boxing champ Claressa Shields, 27, from Flint, Michigan defeated British fighter Savannah Marshall, 31, by an unanimous decision in front of a capacity crowd at the O2 stadium in London on October 15 to become the undisputed world middleweight title holder. And the viewing audience showed up to break more records for women's sport. Breaking news today was that a Russian court upheld Brittney Griner's sentence on drug smuggling charges, clearing the way for her to serve nine years in a penal colony, unless the U.S. government can negotiate a deal for her release. Tragic news for the Brittney and her family which has rocked the sport's world. In tennis, number 10 ranked player Germany's Simona Halep tested positive for a drug violation and is preparing her appeal. Meanwhile world number 1 Poland's Iga Swiatek wins her eighth title of the year at the San Diego Open, American teenager has reached a career high ranking of No 7 and compatriot Jessica Pegula wins her first WTA 1000 title beating some strong opposition. In football, a crowd of 22,035 was on hand at Providence Park in Portland — the second largest attendance count in NWSL playoff history — and behind only last week's record of 26,215 set by San Diego as Portland Thorns advanced to the final of the NWSL Championship beating San Diego 2. They will meet Kansas City Current, who took down the No 1 seed OL Reign 2-0, at the Audi Field in Washington, DC on October 29. With Casey Stoney (San Diego) and Rhian Wilkinson (Portland) leading their respective teams, Sunday's semifinal marked the first time in NWSL history that two female head coaches went head-to-head in a playoff game. The Football World Cup draw has been announced and we share our thoughts on some of the eight pool teams. We have an update from the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand where the hosts our shower their fire power. While in England the Rugby League World Cup is advancing to its knockout round. Disappointing news for skiing fans as the unseasonal mild weather stalls the start of the season with the traditional opener at Solden in Austria cancelled followed by the new double-header of downhill races at Zermatt - Cervinia falling victim to a lack of snow. And finally, we report on the Russian Doping Agency RUSADA secrecy around the Kamila Valieva case which is coming under fire from skaters. Her wife Cherelle said that once the hearing is held and the order is finalized, Brittney could be moved to a labor camp. The last year has been traumatic. For all of us. In some way or another, we've been impacted by COVID and it's upended our lives. We're talking about transitions on the show in this series and coming to terms with the change we've endured in the last 18 months will be important in defining what we want the coming years to look like. As inspiration, Nikki started with an article by Sari Solden, Imagining Life After the Pandemic: Helping Women with ADHD Move Forward with Purpose. In it, Solden outlines her ADHD-friendly blueprint for re-imagining life in a post-pandemic world. But she wrote the article just a few months ago and we're already shaken by the changes in the world since. As rapidly as events evolve around is, we're challenged to adapt more quickly than ever. Feeling guilty about the things you didn't get done? Loving that you don't have to say "no" so much these days simply because you've been invited to do so much less? Worried about your rituals and losing what you've gained in the last year? You're not alone. All that and our own reflections on our collective return to a new world, one in which we exist with a new kind of pandemic, and adapt our behaviors to whatever that may bring us and those we love.

Welkom in Computer Club, een podcast door Frederik 'Freddy' De Bosschere & Thomas 'Smollie' Smolders. Met dank aan Sebastiaan Van den Branden voor de technische hulp.
