Surprise, friends. Grant Morrison joins the show for Superman Day! As the writer behind the seminal All-Star Superman, which observes its 20th anniversary this November, we cannot think of a better person to help us celebrate the Last Son of Krypton on his 87th birthday. Action Comics #1, featuring the first appearance of Superman by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, hit newsstands on April 18th, 1938. It is the source of everything you love about superhero comics. When Action Comics first arrived, America was in economic ruin. The world was about to enter its second great war. Despair was easily accessible, but two Jewish kids from Cleveland imagined a Man of Steel who could do the impossible and would act for those who could not act for themselves. As we look outside our windows in 2025, we see an incredible darkness, but we strive for a future beyond it. We can imitate the devils in the dark, or we can seek Superman, who reflects the best version of ourselves. Like most people, probably, we first encountered Superman through television and film; it was the All-Star Superman comics by Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely, Jamie Grant, Phil Balsman, and Travis Lanham that solidified our passion for the character. Those twelve issues showcased the joyous, awful, absurd, and adventurous universe Superman populated, making us fall in love with it and our own realm in return. As Morrison writes in Supergods, we are the stories we tell ourselves. In Superman, we see who we've been, who we are, and who we could be. We're positively chuffed to chat Superman with Grant Morrison. We discuss their approach to the character in All-Star Superman and how it differs from the version they wrote in JLA, Action Comics, Final Crisis, and other stories. We discuss the significance of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and what it means for Grant and others to extend their great idea. We talk about Lois and Clark, Lex Luthor, Samson, and Atlas, and Grant Morrison reveals their next big comic project somewhere along the line. Continue our conversation with Grant Morrison by visiting their Website, Substack, Instagram, and Bluesky. This Week's Sponsor: We're sponsored by 2000 AD, the greatest comic you're not reading! Within its pages is a whole universe of characters, from Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog to Rogue Trooper, Shakara, Halo Jones, and the poor sods slogging across the Cursed Earth in The Helltrekkers. Get a print subscription at your door every week - and the first issue is free! Or subscribe digitally, get free back issues, and download DRM-free copies of each issue for just $9 a month. That's 128 pages of incredible monthly comics for less than $10. In episode 142, I am excited to introduce the topic of AI to the show. Technology plays a massive role in our daily lives, but also in shaping the outdoor industry and our experiences with the natural world. With AI applications on the rise, there are many ways that AI can be detrimental to the environment as well as to our interpretation of the world and art. I will eventually do an episode on the environmental impacts and long-term effects of AI and data centers, but for this episode, we wanted to take a bit of a positive spin and look at some ways that AI can be used to optimize our time spent outdoors. To help explain all things AI and provide a more positive outlook on the future of AI technology, I had the pleasure of sitting down to chat with Jamie Grant. Jamie is the co-founder and CEO of Carv, the digital ski coach. He has a background in Physics and a PhD in Statistics. Jamie came late to skiing, starting when he was 18. After falling in love with the sport, he has dedicated his career to developing Carv to help elevate technique and overall enjoyment in the sport. In this podcast, I talk to Jamie Grant founder & CEO of Carv Digital Ski Coach. Being a passionate skier with degrees in Physics and Economics he had the skill set to analyse complicated data. This helped Jamie to start developing a digital ski coach that uses sensors to measure your skiing and give you real-time feedback. The product he wished he had to develop his own skiing back in the day. We talk about what he learned from analysing millions of turns from some of the best in the world and how it compares to the average skier. Enjoy!

Show Timeline: Pre-ramble- 0:00 Intro Music- 2:45 Original Intro- 3:41 Antti Niemi- 9:50 End Credits- 54:15 *This week’s notes: Jay, who runs the Southampton Page on Twitter, and who is the official partner of the show, was due to be on this week. We had the recording time set pretty late and then he got ill. I’ve been meaning to find a way to get this episode back out, and now seems like the perfect time, especially since Jay was the one who set it up in the first place. ----more---- It’s not very often that most of us get to speak to former professionals. Some are public figures in broadcasting or coaching, some move on to other careers, and some slip away from the crowds and make a life for themselves with their families. Those that are public often seem, at least to me, unreachable. You can see them, you may even say hello, but to actually sit down and have a chat is not something most of us will get the chance to do. John, of the Saints FC Podcast, has managed to track down several former pros for the podcast, and I truly enjoy those episodes because I learn so much about the team and the players of the time, a time before I began following the red and white stripes, before I began singing “Oh When the Saints” at 4:00am most Saturdays before I began calling it football. For that reason, I feel especially honored to have had the chance to speak with former Saints and Finland goalkeeper Antti Niemi. If you have been a fan of Saints since the early 2000s then you will know Antti. The blonde-haired shot-stopper is a fan favorite remembered for his cat-like reflexes and acrobatic saves in goal. But, prior to doing this interview with him, I didn’t really know him at all. So, in the very short time between learning about the opportunity and actually speaking with him, I enjoyed learning about him and his career, watching highlight videos, and reading up on other interviews he had done. My hope is that the interview is slightly different than what he would have been asked elsewhere. I didn’t want to do the same old interview, but I hope the interview I did is enjoyed by whoever listens. There are so many other people out there probably better suited to do this interview, but I am grateful for the chance to speak to such a thoughtful, talented, kind and hardworking person. Antti is still active in football. In addition to coaching for Finland he likes to spend time fishing and with his family. He is on Instagram @anttimniemi. Special thanks to Jamie Grant for setting this interview up. Thanks also to Lee Calendar and Michael Kurn for helping with some of the question ideas. Peter Schorsch hunkers down with House District 64 Rep. Jamie Grant, which covers parts of north Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. The Tampa Republican is also a co-founder and Senior Solutions Architect of CareSync and a co-founder of LifeSync Technologies. First thing’s first, Grant clears up the name he prefers to go by. Is it James? Jamie? J.W.? The two, who have at times been at odds over various issues, also talk friendships, particularly in the era of divisive politics. Grant acknowledges that conflict is healthy in a friendship, a take he has to take as a lawmaker who has to deal on a daily basis with colleagues with opposing views. Grant also offers an inside glimpse into the dynamics of relationships in the halls of the Capitol. Grant also addresses the Payment Protection Program (PPP) controversy in which some large companies like Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse taking money that was meant for small businesses. Grant explains why he doesn’t blame them for taking advantage of a program they qualified for. Peter pushes back some, pointing out he didn’t apply for PPP funding, but didn’t think it was right because other’s needed it more. On one topic on which there’s little debate, Peter talks with Grant about the challenges facing the Florida economy and the financial hardship that’s bringing to residents and businesses. Grant describes the situation as one that would have been unbelievable even just a couple months ago, likening it hypothetically to a dystopian story like Handmaid’s Tale. Grant offers in this episode a pointed critique of the coronavirus response in this extended interview tackling the virus and government with an occasional personal flair. Special Guest: Jamie Grant.
Peter Schorsch hunkers down with Rep. Jamie Grant of Tampa. Grant shares his wins from the 2020 Legislative Session, including reforming the citizen's initiative process for constitutional amendments and expanding Florida license plate options, to include a plate from his alma mater, Auburn University. With ten years of experience in the Florida Legislature, Grant has a deep knowledge of the legislative process. He talks about that experience and how it helps him see beyond the suddenly "sexy" legislative issues - as defined by powerful professional associations and big money interests. Grant talks about criminal justice reform efforts in the 2020 Session, which focused on helping wrongfully incarcerated individuals, expanding "seal and expunge" policies for returning citizens, and advancing victims' interests by leveling up the state's DNA database. Grant shares when the coronavirus pandemic got real for him, and why he believes the pandemic will be more of an economic crisis than a health crisis. Finally, Grant shares tips to get listeners through self-isolation: 1) Spend as much time talking to friends as possible. 2) Watch Vikings. 3) Check out the TED Library - particularly Simon Sinek's 2009 talk - The Golden Circle. 4) Catch up on reading. 5) Get outside and stay active. Special Guest: Jamie Grant.

The Southampton Page is the longtime partner of the show. Jamie, who runs the page on Instagram and oversees the Twitter account, though he has some help from some wonderful guys on Twitter, has been a fantastic help to me over the time I’ve done the show. From setting me up with guests such as Antti Niemi and Tom Deacon, to helping get the show in front of the page’s 20,000 Instagram followers, I can’t really explain how much of a help he has been. This week, Jamie joins me to discuss the match against Leicester City… last time Jamie was on, we also played Leicester City. This week, a member of the team was shown a red card. Last time Jamie was on, a player on the team was shown a red card… however, this time, the result was different (thank goodness). The performance of the team this week was admirable to say the least. The organization, the effort, the refusal to fold under the pressure of playing with 10 men for so much of the match. It really was an extremely impressive performance, and one that sees the team climb out of the relegation zone. From here, the team hosts Derby on Wednesday night, about which manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has claimed he intends to play a stronger side than what some originally thought. Another week, another instance of Cedric being out jumped at the back post, another late goal allowed takes points from Saints, and once again we drop points at home, to a team that we would expect to beat given that they were Vardy and Mahrez-less. Nonetheless, we are here with an episode and this week I’m joined by Jamie Grant (@strangerIngs) who runs the @SuthamptonPage on Twitter and Instagram. We break down the match, discuss the good and the bad and, eventually, get to a brief preview of the Carabao Cup Match with Brighton. ***I recorded this show on the road (actually just off of a road, down by the river) because I have an awesome wife and fantastic friends who plan cool stuff for us to do when it’s around our birthdays, etc.). Thanks to Mondo and Karin, and Biscuit and Luz… and mostly my wife, Amanda… I’ll talk to you when you are done watching that KU Volleyball match.*** As always, I hope you enjoy the show, and I look forward to hearing from you! **Quick Note** a few audio issues this week, still don’t have all the bugs worked out just yet but everything should be back to normal by next week. What A Feeling! Tuesday was a rollercoaster of emotions to say the least. The anticipation of the match, the nerves as Swansea attacked and threw men forward, the worry when all of our shots seemed to be going wide or hitting the keeper, and the relief when Gabbiadini put in the net, when McCarthy made that save, and when the referee finally blew the final whistle. Baring some catastrophic turn of events on Sunday, WE ARE STAYING UP, say WE ARE STAYING UP! And I could not be happier about it! For this episode I had two calls, my good friend Jamie Grant and Freddie from The Ugly Inside each left me a voice memo (and you can too!) so you’ll hear those, along with a long-winded intro (sorry) and my conversation with fellow Saints FC fan, podcaster, and writer Richard Kharman. We recap the match nd how we’re feeling about the team just moments after it all ended, and Richard helps fill me in on the parts of the match I missed due to work (seriously, I know). It’s not very often that most of us get to speak to former professionals. John, of the Saints FC Podcast, has managed to track down several former pros for the podcast, and I truly enjoy those episodes because I learn so much about the team and the players of the time, a time before I began following the red and white stripes, before I began singing “Oh When the Saints” at 4:00am most Saturdays, before I began calling it football. For that reason, I feel especially honored have had the chance to speak with former Saints’ and Finland goalkeeper Antti Niemi. If you have been a fan of Saints since the early 2000s then you will know Antti. The blonde haired shot stopper is a fan favorite remembered for his cat like reflexes and acrobatic saves in goal. But, prior to doing this interview with him, I didn’t really know him at all. So, in the very short time between learning about the opportunity and actually speaking with him, I enjoyed learning about him and his career, watching highlight videos and reading up on other interviews he had done. He is on Instagram @udde72. Special thanks to Jamie Grant for setting this interview up. Thanks also to Lee Calendar and Michael Kurn for helping with some of the question ideas. Well how about that? We all know Everton are garbage, and it’s not just former Captain Ron that thinks so. But, no matter what you think of the blue side of Merseyside, you have to give some credit to Saints for their performance on the pitch on Sunday. In the immediate aftermath of that bare-bottom spanking we gave Everton, I spoke with Jamie Grant of @TheSaintsReport about the match, mental health, and the upcoming trips to Manchester City and Bournemouth. It’s not often that Jamie steps out from behind the Instagram filter, but it’s always a pleasure when he does. Spent some time with colourist and founder of Hope Street studios, Jamie Grant. Jamie and I got to chat about how he got into comics and his time working for 2000 AD. We also spoke about how he set up Hope Street studios, the difficulty of creating comics as well as working on titles such as WE3 and All Star Superman. I had a really interesting time talking with Jamie, I hope you enjoy listening.

What a week! 7points from 9, 4 goals, 2 clean sheets, and some really good individual and team performances. Coming off a week like that, I was super excited to talk with Jamie Grant, @ManLikeGranty on Twitter. Jamie does a lot on social media, and in what I believe to be typical English fashion, he doesn’t really boast about it… the guy has almost 17,000 followers on his Instagram page dedicated to the club (@SouthamptonPage- Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) and has worked on social media for several different media outlets. He’s currently running social media for @12thManSport. I can’t say enough how awesome it was to talk with Jamie about a range of topics. Lots of things aren’t on the episode because they simply don’t belong here, but Jamie is a class act, a good human, and a joy to work with. I hope you enjoy our conversation! Be sure to check out @SouthamptonPage on Instagram and also follow @Sure on instagram to be eligible for any future giveaways! Thanks to everyone who entered the @BobbyStokesBook giveaway.
