Uncover the future of customer service as we explore the power of AI, where technology meets empathy head-on. John and his colleague Dave Murray take you through the emerging “collaborative AI” world, redefining traditional customer interactions and the emotional bonds they forge. From tackling empathy fatigue to considering AI as a potential carrier of compassion, we discuss the possibilities and challenges of integrating artificial intelligence into customer relations. Feel the pulse of purpose in your work with stories that resonate with meaning and connection. This episode reveals meaningful employment's incredible impact on our overall well-being, drawing from powerful stories of companies like Unishippers and New Day USA. These tales inspire and expose the tools for creating deeper bonds with customers and the magic that happens when employees understand and connect with the people they serve. We embrace the Carpe Momento revolution, an ethos that champions the present as a catalyst for exceptional customer service experiences. We share strategies for injecting kindness and empathy into everyday interactions and creating an environment where employees thrive through the joy of helping others. This revolution is a mindset shift that celebrates every human connection, reminding us all to actively participate in the narrative of customer service evolution. Here are just a few takeaways: AI's role in customer service by enhancing empathy and emotional connections Collaborative AI in contact centers addressing challenges like empathy fatigue and job dissatisfaction Purpose-driven work environments linked to improved employee well-being and customer relations Recruiting employees with a strong sense of team purpose, like former athletes, to enhance customer experience The effectiveness of simple, actionable mission statements in guiding employee-customer interactions Daymaker dopamine and the psychological benefits of kindness in the workplace Emphasizing the Carpe Momento mindset for present-focused customer service and meaningful human connections Resources mentioned: thedijuliusgroup.com/the-customer-service-revolution-podcast thedijuliusgroup.com/project/cx-executive-academy thedijuliusgroup.com/project/exea thedijuliusgroup.com/blog thedijuliusgroup.com/product/the-employee-experience-revolution-pre-sale www.thedijuliusgroup.com Follow and Review: We'd love for you to follow us if you haven't yet. Though they were often referred to as ‘parablocks', but in fact they were called ‘parablacks'. The reason was that the inventor was called Gunther Schwartz. They were partly to stop skiers crossing 'the sharp ends' but they were widely used in World Cup speed events because they had the effect of dampening the ski and filtering out vibration. Marker developed their own version which had a weight suspended by springs, it was intended as a more active 'suspension' for ski racers, though the thing weighed a ton. The earliest ones were simply plastic boxes but the last version was a spring loaded coat hanger wire affair which stopped your tips crossing but folded flat if you tried to uncross them”   BobinCH (snowheads): "Gethin on Solden in October [Episode 159] was an interesting listen" Richard_Sideways (snowheads): "Nice podcast as usual" Elements.biz: "Super interesting conversations [in Episode 160]. But never have I woken up to someone doing their job with such delight (who also happened to be smokin' hot and shirtless) that he drew out fellow neighbors to stand at attention in their windowsills, with coffee mugs in hand, also chatting him up and taking in the view. Today's episode takes a page out of this memorable man's customer delight handbook. Daymaker: wherever you are, thank you.

Many people open a salon with a dream to grow it into a big business. Unfortunately, only very few achieve that dream.  In today's hairdressing industry there has been a growth in the independent stylist. The salon suite, The booth renter. The freelancer. The business unit of 1. But that business model certainly isn't for everyone. You can still build a brand, create a career path, and offer training and benefits and an amazing workplace culture that gives people a place to belong that is bigger than just them. My guest on today's podcast has done that and so much more. He is David Wagner; hair stylist, artist, entrepreneur, educator, author and founder and owner of JUUT Salons.   In today's episode we discuss: What it takes to build a successful salon brand The meaning of being a ‘day maker' Creating salon culture  The Covid impact …   And so much more!   In this Episode: [03:13] David shares an overview of his journey from one of the very first Horst Rechelbacher scholars to the founder and CEO of Juut Salonspa. [12:45] How David transformed a last-place salon into a first-place salon.  [15:02] The serendipitous moment that David decided to open his own salon, and the growth that his business experienced in its first 3 years. [17:05] Why David recommends either having one salon or more than two, and growing through acquisition rather than building from the ground up.  [23:34] The key to successfully running salons across multiple states.  [27:24] David shares the experiences which inspired Daymaker Movement, and his book, Life As a Daymaker. [36:36] What David has learned about the value that the hairdressing professional brings to people's lives.  [41:22] How David created (and maintains) a thriving employee-based culture in his salons.   [55:03] Why David refers to his salons as a collection rather than a chain.  [57:14] The percentage of revenue that David considers to be a good profit (and why this has gone down over time). [1:01:11] David's suggestion for measuring retail sales.  [1:04:10] An overview of the payment structure at Juut.  [1:06:05] David shares his thoughts on the evolution of the salon suite model.  [1:09:57] The impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on David's business. [1:14:44] What David believes to be his greatest strengths, the lesson that he would like to pass onto future generations of hair stylists, and what he wishes he was better at. [1:21:43] Traits that David believes make for a good leader.   Thanks so much for joining me this week. If you enjoyed this episode, please leave a review. After several years in service as Daymaker’s chief executive, Thomas is now beginning a new cycle of life. Today, he is exploring his native roots, regenerative agriculture, and how he can serve to reconnect people to the land - all in addition to remaining open in a beautiful space where the truths of life can come to him and the people around him. In this episode, Thomas and I share our needs to be in a deeper, more authentic friendship. We discuss how we can take risks to communicate our wants and needs and describe the challenges of taking those risks to be closer. We discuss what it means to be honest and why we need to ground ourselves in our own truth. We also highlight the role of simple moments of life in bringing out truth and underscore how we can create safe spaces where we can express radical honesty to each other. “Honesty is the pathway to the larger truth. There are micro moments of honesty where your feelings might get hurt. But those micro moments of honesty add up to us being in touch with this larger truth.” - Thomas Doochin This week on Relationships! Let’s Talk About It: An invitation to be human and excavate radical honesty in relationships Learning to watch the transition between life’s highs and lows Diving into what it means to be honest Our need for other people who can hold space for us The importance of asking our friends to hold space The profoundness of simple moments and their power to create safe spaces Why we need to center onto our own truth The larger truths of life, how honesty leads to it, and what it means to share what is real Speaking your truth in a compassionate way Creating spaces for radical honesty How small moments of interaction can set the stage for honesty and truth Bringing truth and authenticity in compassion The beauty of long relationships and friendships and the healing power of intimacy An evening of talk, pumpkin pie, and holding on to the sweetness of experience Resources Mentioned: Radical Honesty: How to Transform Your Life by Telling the Truth by Brad Blanton Related Content: The Relationship of Business Through the Lens of Giving Generosity: Contemplating How We Show Up In Our Relationships The Challenges of Workplace Relationships Connect with Thomas Doochin: Daymaker Daymaker on Instagram Daymaker on Facebook Daymaker on Twitter Thomas Doochin on LinkedIn Thomas Doochin on Twitter Let’s Talk About It! WINGS for Growth presents "Showing Up as A Leader" with Ghazale Johnston, former Managing Director of Accenture, and now the Founder and Principal of Joon Solutions. There was a pivotal moment in Ghazale's career when she realized there was a second chapter to her story and she wanted to do something different; thereafter, she became the COO for a startup called DayMaker. She says, being from an immigrant family, meant that you do not have social capital the way that people do; you know that no one will ever owe you anything, so you have to keep trying your best every time and get it right on your own. Being a first-generation immigrant, I fully agree with this.During our fun-packed conversation, we also asked Ghazale how to restore trust once it is shattered. I heard this expression before: “Trust arrives on foot but leaves on horseback.” In other words, building trust can take a very long time, but breaking trust can happen in an instant. Ghazale's advice is to own your mistakes and be honest.  Quotes:Empathy is about putting yourself in other people's shoes and recognizing what you will never understand about someone. Listen and learn, don't assume. Always choose to do what is right over what is easy. If you are a mother don't plan past 6 months, there are many unknowns, and it can overwhelm you.   I want to be remembered by how I treated people, not how I delivered the business process. Profit and Purpose can and should exist in the same concept.Guest Bio:As Founder and Principal of Joon Solutions, Ghazale Johnston advises rapidly growing companies on business development, client integration and workplace engagement. She is also an active angel investor and serves as advisor to early stage CEOs/ Founders. Ghazale specializes in purpose-driven businesses as well as companies focused on solving societal issues that disproportionately affect the lives of women and minorities. She is regularly involved in programs that address the emotional and educational needs of children impacted by trauma and poverty, which includes serving on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas. Her focus on education extends to her leadership roles at North Carolina State University. Ghazale is currently serving as the Vice Chair of the NC State University Foundation Board, is on the Leadership Council for the Wolfpack Women in Philanthropy and is a member of the Wolfpack Investor Network. Prior to launching Joon Solutions, Ghazale served as the Chief Operating Officer for Daymaker- a compassion platform that helps companies engage their employees through intentional acts of giving and service. Ghazale continues to advise Daymaker on strategic priorities and growth initiatives. Ghazale formerly spent 20 years at Accenture where she was a Partner/Managing Director in the Financial Services practice. In 2013, she was a winner of the Charlotte Business Journal 40 under 40 award.Ghazale loves telling stories and helping others tell their stories. She creates content, provides coaching and speaks publicly on various topics including helping women re-enter the workforce; advancing social causes; and the gifts and lessons she has gained as an immigrant. Ghazale lives in Charlotte with her husband, Andy. They have two children, Alex (15) and Millie (13) and a sweet Schnoodle named Duffy. Her "perfect day" includes a 5 mile run, traveling with her family and/or enjoying delicious food with friends. About WINGS:Hope you like what you heard. Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing Flamingosis over Zoom video! Electronic and future funk producer Flamingosis unveils a feel-good animated video for his latest single ‘Daymaker’. 'Daymaker’ will be part of a wider album project coming later this year. Animated by Nick Parente, ‘Daymaker’ leads with a vocal sample from Flamingosis’ father, who was a world-renowned professional frisbee player back in the 1970s-1980s. His father and uncle coined the term "Flamingosis" as a frisbee move, hence the moniker and the creative vision behind the animated video. Set in the midst of summer, ‘Daymaker’ takes the viewer on a unique visual journey through the city -  from the viewpoint of the frisbee - to experience the best aspects of a perfect summer day. Following a retro 70s style-vibe, ‘Daymaker’ is filled with both charming and heartwarming moments that will immediately capture those well-known feelings of Summertime nostalgia. Flamingosis mentions his single Daymaker is, “Probably one of my favorite tracks that I have ever made. I hope it makes someone’s day better after listening to it. The video is a reflection of everything in my life that has inspired the Flamingosis project. Frisbee, flamingos, the shore, funk and soul music, cartoons/anime and living life. I wanted all of that incorporated into a music video. Big thank you to Nick Parente and his whole team of animators for their hard work in bringing the vision to life.” ‘Daymaker’ marks the second release from Flamingosis this year following his August single ‘Wild Summer.’ Also paying homage to his family heritage, the music video for ‘Wild Summer’ features exclusive footage of his father and uncle from their pro-frisbee days. ‘Wild Summer’ has become a fan-favorite and in heavy rotation via Spotify, racking in hundreds of thousands of streams to date. Flamingosis' (real name Aaron Velasquez) progressive future-funk style of electronic music has amassed him nearly 100 million lifetime streams across platforms, with over 100K followers across social media channels. He has performed and collaborated with many notable artists in the electronic space such as Big Gigantic, GRiZ, Gramatik, Madeon, Emancipator, Tokimonsta, Matoma, Yung Bae, Elliot Lipp and Pure Colors, and appeared on major festival lineups including Austin City Limits, Electric Forest, Okeechobee, Holy Ship!, Shambhala and more. Closing out the year with his latest track ‘Daymaker’, Flamingosis has solidified himself as an exciting artist to watch in 2021.We want to hear from you! Men därefter har utvecklingen i stort sett stått still.

Thomas Doochin firmly believes in humanity’s story of love and interconnectedness. This great faith in humanity led him and his peers at the University of North Carolina to co-create Daymaker at the young age of 19. Through connecting employees to their communities, Daymaker is a company that helps people realize their intrinsic goodness and generosity. But to Thomas, Daymaker is more than a business; it is a living mentor that continues to teach him what generosity means. In today’s episode, Thomas and I contemplate on generosity and how we bring it into our closest relationships. We explain why, while we’re generous to most people, we’re sometimes least generous to the people closest to us. We describe the shame that comes when we realize that we’re not being generous. We illustrate how self-care, self-compassion, and self-appreciation all help to bring out our authentic, generous selves. We also share, from our personal lives, the tendency to withhold generosity from our romantic partners and how we manage to bring it back.   “We have the space to be more of ourselves anywhere in a relationship. Our innate quality is good and graciousness, and love.” - Thomas Doochin   This week on Relationships! Let’s Talk About It: How Thomas has become more generous through intentional practice Why generosity is a muscle that could be practiced The parts of the brain responsible for generosity How Thomas realized that he was not being generous in his romantic relationship The shame that comes with realizing our lack of generosity and inauthenticity Why our closest relationships receive the least generous part of ourselves How intention and mindfulness can bring generosity to relationships The effects of emotional maturity in relationships How emotional self-care and regulation creates generosity Why obligations and expectations stop us from being our authentic selves Using the idea of death to create generosity and compassion The power of self-appreciation and self-compassion The right way to accept an apology and how acceptance heals relationships   Resources Mentioned:   The Relationship of Business Through The Lens of Giving   Connect with Thomas Doochin:  Daymaker Daymaker on Facebook Daymaker on Twitter Daymaker on Instagram Thomas Doochin on Twitter Thomas Doochin on LinkedIn   Let’s Talk About It!   Thanks for tuning into this week’s episode of Relationships! Dus. EnJOY this RIDE to FREEDOM Liefs Lou P.S. Never miss another interview! Join Devin here: http://bit.ly/joindevin. Thomas Doochin has created a completely different sort of crowdfunding platform for nonprofits. He’s set up a store where donors can purchase items for specific children sponsored by agencies that support them. The site, called Daymaker, bridges two gaps that traditional nonprofit crowdfunding sites have, by first allowing donors to give to a specific child and second giving the donor the opportunity to purchase a specific item so that the nonprofit has no discretion about how to use their money. With the same ease as giving a small donation, donors can now give an item. For some donors, this may be just what they need to allow them to feel comfortable giving to a nonprofit organization. Giray Dadali spent his whole life in the shadow if his older brother, pro skier Ahmet Dadali.  While working to create a name for himself in the ski world, Giray realized he already had a name that everyone knew, Ahmet’s Brother.  Fast forward to today and Giray has had 3 signature Ahmet’s Brother Pro Model Skis and has finally stepped out from his brother’s shadow, kind of.  On top of all that, Giray is a schooled engineer who created and is currently selling the often sold out Daymaker Touring System.  His story is awesome and his experience, totally different than his brothers.  Giray Dadali Show Notes: 2:00:  What has he been up to this summer? 4:40:  Growing up Turkish, a big family and his relationship with them 12:00:  I hate NY Crew, summer set ups,  and competing. 23:30:   Evo (Use the code TPM10 for 10% off at checkout) RESQWATER (enter the code resqwatertpm for a 20% discount on a 12 pack) The 10 Barrel Brewery:  My favorite is Out of Office Pilsner 25:40:  The I hate NY crew moves, Giray  gets a scholarship, takes a year off and loses it having the best year of his life. 36:00:  War of Rails injury 43:00:  The challenge of being a pro skier with an established brother, help from Tanner Hall, and then meeting/skiing with him 48:00:  Working with J Skis and becoming Ahmet’s Brother 53:00:  Daymaker Touring Binding 59:00:  Inappropriate Questions

I spoked to Thomas Doochin this week about why giving is so important, where our society is following short, and how our generation might change our collective trajectory.  Thomas is the founder of Daymaker, a digital giving platform that is the first of its kind. The company, which partners with local chapters of high-impact non-profits across the country, is the only online giving website that allows donors to purchase real gifts for kids in need year-round.  Thomas came up with the idea of Daymaker while studying for his undergraduate degree at UNC, and officially launched the company in 2015. To date, Thomas has lead Daymaker in facilitating giving for over 10,000 families in 48 states and 17 countries, helping more than 30,000 kids.

Daymaker exists to help cultivate the art of giving in the lives of children. They’re using this unique platform to teach children that is truly is better to give than to receive. Over 9000 children have chosen to give to other children in need through Daymaker so far.  Thomas is only 23 but he is a already a fountain of wisdom.
