Assembly Democrats legislative initiatives helped Californians survive the pandemic. On this episode we look back at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic and talk with current lawmakers, including Assemblymember Dr. Darshana Patel, about their personal Covid stories, how it changed the way the legislature works and what needs to be done to prevent another pandemic.

I am thrilled to be back with each and every one of you for season 16—and I am thrilled to be joined by our guest today, Neha Ruch, author of The Power Pause: How to Plan a Career Break After Kids—and Come Back Stronger Than Ever, which came out January 14. We've all heard that phrase about having it all, about work/life balance (which I find to be a fallacy), and how to juggle it all, and Neha's book offers a really modern solution: the power pause, which she explains in this episode. After reading her book, truly, for the first time I thought, “I can actually maybe make all of my dreams work in life.” I learned about downshifting; about all of the stigma and shame that comes with being a stay-at-home parent, especially a stay-at-home mom; how to make the decision to take a career pause to settling into the day-to-day of a career pause to how to return from a career pause; how to make it work financially; how we become so attached to our job titles, and how to discover who we are beyond our titles; and how to find fulfillment in each stage of our lives, no matter where we're at. I also learned that a power pause is not a career dead end, and that we might actually be setting ourselves up for a career comeback that leaves us better off than before. We also talk about how to announce this on LinkedIn, how it should show up on our resumes, and so much more. I am really excited for you to hear this conversation with Neha, and I'd love to tell you a little bit about her and the work she's doing. First of all, The Power Pause has been so well-received—it's a USA Today bestseller, for starters! Neha is the founder of Mother Untitled, the leading platform for ambitious women leaning into family life that is catalyzing a shift in how society views stay-at-home motherhood. She lives in Manhattan with her husband, their two children, and their dog Coconut. Take a listen! The Power Pause: How to Plan a Career Break After Kids—and Come Back Stronger Than Ever by Neha Ruch

A Clare TD insists a range of enhanced supports are urgently needed as parents have to chose between either the soaring costs of living or childcare. It follows a new survey from International finance firm Royal London Ireland which determined the estimated annual salary of a stay-at-home parent would be €57,140. The study looked at the typical daily tasks and responsibilities involved and researched the cost of employing someone to do those jobs. Shannon Sinn Féin TD Donna McGettigan says stay-at-home parents need greater respect from the state.
Earlier on Breakfast Briefing, Shane Beatty was joined by Karen O'Flaherty from Royal London Ireland, who explained how the work of a stay-at-home parent could be equal to an annual salary of 57 thousand euro. To discuss this further Ciara spoke to Pauline O'Reilly Green Party Senator and advocate for stay at home parents.

Our MOM CHAT episodes are something special! Ever wonder what it'd be like if moms recorded the conversations they have when they get together? There's just something so real about talking through things over coffee, a glass of wine, or while out on a walk. We wanted to bottle up that vibe and share it with you. So, we invited two of our amazing HER Circle friends, Courtney and Jennifer, to have an open, casual chat about a topic that matters. In this episode, we discuss the topic of the Dark Side of Being a Stay at Home Parent. Together we untangle the challenges of being a stay-at-home mom (SAHM). We explore the emotional and financial dependencies on partners, the loss of identity, and the societal perception of SAHMs. Jennifer and Courtney share their experiences, highlighting the financial impracticality of daycare and the lack of tangible income for SAHMs. They discuss the emotional burden of managing household tasks and the guilt of not contributing financially. The conversation emphasizes the importance of recognizing the value of SAHMs' work and the need for better societal understanding and support. Emily Dickinson, one of the greatest of American poets, attended seminary for a while, and then she went back home to Amherst. And for the rest of her life, she lived mostly in seclusion. That's kind of weird, right? Maybe not. You see, God made each of us with a distinct personality. Sometimes it's actually unhealthy to try and fit a square peg into a round hole. It hurts. We get more stressed out. Emily Dickinson lived a full life. Her relationships were in correspondence, a whole lot of letters. And guess what? She wasn't unhappy. If your aloneness has gotten under your skin, don't stress about it. If you're fulfilled with limited relationships, that's okay. Figure out what works for you. And remember, what the Bible says in Proverbs 18:24, “There is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.” Let's pray.Lord, you made us to have relationships with you first. So if we're not the outgoing type, help us rest in that. Help us enjoy the life we have and be fulfilled by having right relationship with you as our priority.
