Hey Doc—Let's talk about what it really costs to perform strength.Dr. Tolulope Olabintan is a family medicine physician, a private practice owner, and a woman of deep faith. She's also someone who—like so many of us—was raised to be “the strong one.” The Proverbs 31 woman. The helper. The one who keeps going, no matter what.Because “strong women” don't sit still. They endure. Power through. Serve. But what happens when that identity clashes with your actual humanity? In this conversation, Dr. Tolu shares her story of postpartum hypertension, pregnancy complications, hospital escapes (yes, literal), and learning to stop performing the role of the unshakable woman. We talk about:How she envisioned herself as a virtuous woman in motherhood — and how that image evolvedThe cost of silence when systems take advantage of your sacrificeHow postpartum hypertension, fatigue, and guilt finally led her to rewire everythingWhat it means to teach others how to love and support youDr. Tolu's story is full of grace, growth, and hard-won clarity. And you're going to feel every bit of it.Dr. Tolulope Olabintan, MD, FAAFP, DipABLM is a Board-Certified Family Physician, Board certified with American Board of Lifestyle Medicine, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She also completed a Women's Health Fellowship and is a certified HIV specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. Whose knowledge is represented in our health research, policies, and practice? Who is heard, listened to and believed in our health system, and why? There are differences in not only whose perspectives are represented in society, but also what knowledge is valuable. On this episode of the Race & Health Podcast, we explore the concept of epistemic injustice: the idea that knowledge and systems of knowledge production favour the perspectives of those at the top of the social hierarchy. We will explore how epistemic injustice works, what this means for representation in research, services, and policies, and ultimately, how this relates to racism and health.    This episode's guests include Dr Seye Abimbola, Associate Professor and Principle Research Fellow at the University of Sydney, Dr Rageshri Dhairyawan, Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV Medicine at Barts Health NHS Trust and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London, and Dr Naidu Thirusha, Head of Clinical Psychology at King Dinuzulu Hospital and an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing and Public Health at University of KwaZulu-Natal.

While innovative and effective ideas to help solve major global health problems are hard to come by, finding and attaining funding to put them into action can be even more difficult. The research grant review process takes time and can be bogged down in red tape. Decisions on who and what kind of research gets funded can pass over novel ideas in favor of familiar project plans. The Trinity Challenge aims to shake things up a bit by rewarding creative and practical ideas that take research down to the community level. While the first round was dedicated to addressing COVID-19, the latest prize will go to ideas to fight the emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections, otherwise known as antimicrobial resistance (AMR). In this episode of One World, One Health, Dr. Marc Mendelson, Professor of Infectious Diseases and Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases & HIV Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital at the University of Cape Town and director of the Trinity Challenge tells us how the Trinity Challenge aims to support researchers with ideas to fight the present and growing problem of drug resistance in new and inclusive ways.

Can a picture lie? They can and do – especially when they are used out of context. And photographs and other imagery are regularly abused when it comes to illustrating global health. Available images illustrating disease outbreaks, refugee needs, and even benign public health campaigns routinely show Black and Brown people far more often than they do light-skinned residents of wealthy Western nations. Misery is almost always associated with color.Dr. Esmita Charani of the University of Liverpool and of the Division of Infectious Diseases and HIV Medicine at the University of Cape Town, tired of seeing this, did something about it. She and colleagues got the hard data about how public health imagery over-represents the global South. Her work got some attention and sparked some action. The Lancet is now changing the way it uses those images. In this episode of One World, One Health, host Maggie Fox chats with Esmita about how this imbalance happened in the first place, how it's harmful, and what can be done about it.

Host: Matt Birnholz, MD Guest: David Canaday, MD As we age, our immune system becomes weaker and is therefore unable to ward off infection as easily as in our younger years.1 This is particularly troublesome during flu season. In fact, the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recently looked at flu vaccine data for adults aged 65 years and older, and they now recommend that this age group preferentially receive higher dose or adjuvanted vaccines over standard dose unadjuvanted vaccines when available.2 So what was the data that led to these updated recommendations? Joining Dr. Matt Birnholz to share those key findings and the role of adjuvanted vaccines like FLUAD® QUADRIVALENT (Influenza Vaccine, Adjuvanted) in preventing influenza in older adults is Dr. David Canaday, Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases & HIV Medicine at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. The Theatre: Surgical Learning & Innovation Podcast

Despite advances in the field of sexual health medicine in recent years, there remain persistent myths and misconceptions, both amongst the general public, as well as between medical professionals who do not specialise in this area. Indeed, the stigmas surrounding conditions such as HIV and syphilis may have repercussions for patient care if health practitioners are unable to properly administer these patients as a result of poor information. This series of discussions, featuring colorectal surgeon and Women in Surgery Chair, Tamzin Cuming, and sexual health physician Diarmuid Nugent, aims to provide surgeons with some basic information on the subject so that they may confidently treat patients in their surgical clinics when these conditions and issues may be relevant. The first episode in this series will discuss recent advances in HIV medicine, such as PrEP and U=U, and how these developments have changed the way healthcare professionals treat patients living with HIV. Listeners are encouraged to describe how these concepts may impact their own clinical practice, recognise when it may be appropriate to test for HIV in the surgical clinic and discuss the evolving language in this area, noting why some terms may contribute to stigma.

Megaphysics II:An Explanation of Nature The Equation of Everything in Terms of Cosmology, Strings and Relativity by Dr. Mitchell Wick This book is a comprehensive mathematical exposition of how one-inch-long equation space-time is directly proportional to space and inversely proportional to mass can be used to explain all phenomena of nature. It explains the equation in terms of metric tensors and in terms of quantum mechanics and demonstrate how they equal each other and the equation of everything, which in tensors is Riemannian 4 space = Mintkowski 3 space - 1/2 space-time curvature metric called gravity/Ricci tensor of inertial mass all multiplied by 1/c^2 or if substituting the Ricci Tensor (c^2) by the energy density of matter completes the equation. A new mathematical operator is introduced called the spiral operator, which describes space-time in black holes and the total curvature of the universe is mathematically determined. Black energy and dark matter are shown how they interrelate and relate to what caused the big bang, and there is a theory as to what occurred prior to the big bang. Also a mathematical mechanism is given showing a rotational component in the quantum bubble prior to the big bang and how it fits with nature. The book applies some comments made by other physicists about compactification (rolled or curled up dimensions) to show the compactified circle of Type IIa string theory can be applied to arc length as space-time, the radius as the sum of all Riemann Forces and the angle as space-time curvature. Relativity and cosmology are explained, as well as quantum mechanics, including the Schrodinger equation, and how many more conn-compactified dimensions can exist besides the postulated twenty-six in string theory. M Theory is also explained, along with membranes and how they interrelate to energy and matter. The Hawking paradox is solved using Schwarzchild space-time and much more. Dr. Wick is a retired physician who, besides being a board-certified physician, had undergraduate studies in chemistry, including research in Polymers at the University of South Florida. Collegiate material for a bachelor’s in chemistry included physics through quantum mechanics, kinetics, and thermodynamics prior to attending medical school in 1976 at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He had also published two prior books on physics, which are Megaphysics: A New Look at the Universe”(2003) and The Equation of Everything (2014). He had residency training in Parkview Hospital in radiology and nuclear medicine, and besides being board certified in family practice, he was a diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Management and American Association of HIV Medicine. This author is and has been in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, A Dictionary of International Biography (53rd edition, IBC Cambridge Press), and 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century (40th edition, IBC Cambridge Press, 2007). In this episode The Doctor Dads interview chief medical officer at ENDOURAGE Dr. Michael Steward. Dr. Steward is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to cannabis and the endocannabinoid system. Cannabis has been used as a plant medicine for ages and the medicinal qualities of this powerful plant have many uses to support and optimize our health. We dive into the following topics: The Endocannabinoid System The healing qualities of the Cannabis plant The importance of using CBD products derived from flower The ratio of CBD/THC matters The types of terpenes and cannabinoids used in each formula gives the medicinal qualities The importance of using products that are clean and free of heavy metals, microbes, and pesticides. Delivery Systems for administration of cannabis plant medicine and more  Finding innovative ways to help people who are suffering is at the heart of Dr. Michael Steward's career. That inexhaustible desire and drive to heal inspired him to become a founding partner of Endourage, and the company's Chief Medical Officer. Seven years ago, Dr. Steward began studying the potential benefits of cannabis when used medicinally as part of a treatment plan. He explored how the plant affects the body's endocannabinoid system, which regulates the function of the brain, endocrine and immune tissues. His findings instilled in him a belief that cannabis has the ability to improve the quality of life for patients living with pain, addiction, and various other ailments. His research led him to help create Endourage, a venture designed to manufacture high-quality affordable CBD-rich products that doctors would feel comfortable recommending to their patients. A licensed physician for more than 28 years, Dr. Steward has worked in both Family Practice, HIV Medicine, Hospice and Palliative care. He was on the leading edge of caring for patients with HIV back in the mid '90s, when protease inhibitors weren't yet available, and treatment of the disease was still in its nascent stages. Dr. Steward's office in Denver treated over 1,200 patients with HIV, being the largest Family Practice office providing HIV care in a five-state region.   Clinicaltrials.gov   ENDOURAGE   For any questions or more info contact Michael@endourage.com
