Are you traveling? Tell me why or why not. Need a confidence boost? Here are the 5 Steps to Solo travel, summarized and a link to the book on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Five-Steps-Solo-Travel-Womans/dp/B0BC2FXLPY Step 1: Local Solo Travel. Close to home local travel. Step 2: Domestic solo trips, familiar with the territory. Maybe cross country. Step 3: National travel with more complexity, such as Alaska or Hawaii Step 4: International travel in familiar cultures Step 5: Fully independent, adventurous international solo travel. I've been creating this podcast weekly since 2018. I'm on my way to helping more than 100,000 women travel solo. Are you one of us? https://www.5stepstosolotravel.com FAQ: You asked? Where am I traveling this summer? Here is your FAQ response: I start in Colombia, then Ecuador for Galapagos, then Peru for Machu Pichu, and then Brazil for some beach life in Salvador and near Rio. I will finish in Argentina's Iguazu Falls, then return to Sao Paulo for my Cape Town, South Africa flight. I'll be there for several days and depart from Johannesburg to Athens, Greece. After being there for a week, I'll explore other parts of Europe, including Poland and Scandinavia. I'll be there for a while, and then across to travel in Canada, hopefully Halifax and PEI, before I go home 90 days later via Toronto. That's the plan for the summer trip. I'll be staying with families via Servas (World Peace) and at lower-budget hotels. I'll book local activities where I can. I'll have a small footprint and carry a pack that weighs less than 15 lbs. Lessons learned from my 90-day trip in 2023 Most of them were about the wrong direction or the wrong destination. This time, I know that I may make similar mistakes, but I hope to make fewer of them. I have a hard time with remembering which way I came in, such as a hotel room. I need to be more aware of the physical presence, and take notes in my brain about them. Today's Travel Advice- I'm planning the trip daily now, and most of my decisions can be made from Europe. However, if I want to get a Eurail pass, I should do so before I leave the USA. https://www.eurail.com/en/eurail-passes/deals/eurail-pass-discounts/eurail-senior-discounts I am concerned about how the world sees the USA these days. I will never be alone. I'll always have God with me. I'll be praying every minute, as best I can. “In El Salvador, I dropped $5 out of my pocket at the border, and some guy came running up to me. At the beginning of the trip I would have been surprised by that. But by that point I would have been surprised if it didn’t happen.” —Matt Savino In this episode of Deviate, Rolf and Matt talk about how the first version of his travel book was way too long, and what he ended up editing out (6:00); the origins of Matt’s Central America road trip, why he ended up turning it into a book, and how he ended up taking Rolf’s Paris class (12:00); how Matt’s “Spreadsheet of Pain” helped him edit his book down to manageable size, and how historical research helped his narrative (17:00); how he wrote about a road trip that didn’t actually reach its objective, and how he tried to model his narrative on Bill Bryson’s writing (26:00); how Matt used a hybrid publisher to get his travel book into the world in two years (31:00); the challenges, idiosyncrasies, and creative joys that come with creating a hybrid published book (39:00); how AI bots determined that Matt had “plagiarized” what turned out to be his own book (54:00); and Matt’s advice for people interested in hybrid publishing (60:30). In Stephen's own words:Having spent a career as a guest conductor with over 100 orchestras and served as a Music Director with two orchestras, I have collected a wide variety of experiences. These experiences have included teaching conducting to Senator Joe Biden, conducting the seventh inning stretch for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1973 for the national league Pennant and being interviewed on QVC and HSN. The memoirs are filled with musical as well as social stories about the travels that I have experienced. As the first American artist behind what was "the Iron Curtain" to travel around Pablo Escobars rancho, the memoirs are filled with annecdotes and stories about artists as well as locations. It has been a pleasure to commit to paper the stories with Ray Charles, Van Cliburn, me Ben E. Happy Monday, my Friend! Welcome to Inside the Minds of Authors. The podcast that is dedicated to bringing you passionate authors with exciting books. Today we have the pleasure of having a fabulous guest joining us all the way from Italy. The talented novelist, Ms. Gudrun Cuillo, is chatting with us about her debut novel, Casalvento. Gudrun was born in Leibnitz, Austria. Her instinctive artistic flair led to a career in opera as an artist-in-residence for stage scenery and makeup. That work eventually took Gudrun to New York to continue her education. While traveling throughout the U.S., Gudrun landed in Florida. There she fell in love with a successful entrepreneur and Broadway producer, Robert Cuillo. They married and in the ensuing years, they established Casalvento Winery in Radda, Chianti, Siena, Italy. Gudrun and Robert also restored Livernano, a nearby medieval village, to its original splendor. Currently, Gudrun has two career passions: winemaking and writing. Her winemaking has garnered numerous awards and much recognition for Casalvento Winery. In her debut novel, Gudrun combines her life experience with her gift for storytelling. I'm writing a new book about traveling to a new city with kids. Here's the approach I take to research it.
Let's pack it up and go strike it rich!'Roughing It' by Mark Twain is a collection of rambling anecdotes from his travels as a younger man. It details his travels to the Wild West during the California gold rush, working as a journalist in San Francisco and crossing the Pacific Ocean to reach the Kingdom of Hawaii. There are many funny stories within and is semi-autobiographical but with plenty of fictional inventions as well.I summarised the book as follows. "I'm a huge fan of Mark Twain in general and this book didn't let me down. It really has everything: entertaining, informational, a unique perspective, historical, funny, etc,. My favourite part was the middle section and the only way to make it better would have been if it was slightly shorter."I hope you have a fantastic day wherever you are in the world. The hosts of The DM's Book Club proudly bring you a new series, The DM's Travel Bookclub: A Guide to The Planes! In each episode, we'll explore the Planes of Existence as outlined in the Great Wheel cosmology in the roleplaying game, Dungeons & Dragons! We continue our bonus journey as we explore Sigil; The City of Doors; the centre of the multiverse; or just the confluence of energies that bore a home. Its origins unknown, this city upon the spire is the beating heart of the outer planes; portals lead to everywhere a berk may want (or not want) to go. The “ruler” aka The Lady of Pain silently controls the city with her god-like powers; yet the Factions is where the day-to-day politic exists; pseudo-intellectual ideologies they hold pit them against one-another as they try to prove their theory for life and the multiverse. In this special episode, we go into the area at the center of all the Planes, The Outlands; Also known as the Plane of Concordant Opposition, is the true neutral centre of the multiversal planes. However, this only means that good, evil, chaos & order are constantly in flux as the plane seeks to exert balance in all. This leads to it being one of the most complicated and conflicted realms of Planescape. With its centre it is also the border to all the other planes through their gate towns, all of which bring an essence of their being to the outlands, a sort of taster course, if you will, for adventurers to explore before the main meal of any plane. With all this, The Outlands is deceptively simple & safe, and in fact a perfect introduction for any adventuring party to the true wonder and dangers of the multiverse.Audio originally from 'The Outlands - The DM's Travel Bookclub: A Guide to The Planes Episode 17' on the Dragon YouTube channel.Book discussed: Planescape Campaign Setting, published by Wizards of the Coast (1994).Consider using our affiliate link when using DM's Guild!#SupportyourFLGSCredits The DM's Book Club is hosted, recorded, edited, and produced by Fiona Howat (@WAIR_Podcast) and Hamilton (@TheDragonDM). Here are the things to expect in the episode:Why should you write and publish a travel book? What are the benefits of writing books? How can you write a travel book? What are the challenges of book publishing? And much more! About Kirsten:Kirsten "Kiki" Ringer's passion for publishing began in kindergarten when she wrote her first book, Ruby Diamond and the Jewel Thief. With nearly 30 years in the publishing and entertainment industries, her experience includes The Walt Disney Studios, Penguin Putnam, and the venerable Russell & Volkening Literary Agency in New York, where she worked with Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning authors. After three decades of watching authors being let down by the publishing process, Kiki recognized the need to provide authors with long-term support. This gave birth to KLR Literary Management, which offers writers - of all levels - a place where all they do is write.Kiki prides herself on her commitment to every author's holistic success. She is also a 500-hr. certified yoga instructor and mindfulness practitioner. When she's not training for a triathlon, she's most often found snuggling her Dobermans. Though she does take off Saturdays during the fall to watch college football.
