Moses has led Israel for 40 years, and now, standing on the threshold of the Promised Land, he has one last chance to speak. Deuteronomy isn't just a "repetition of the law"—it is a masterclass in divine persuasion. How do you convince a people to stay true when you are no longer there to lead them? Summary: In this episode, we explore the rhetorical power of Deuteronomy. We move beyond the "judicial handbook" to find a prophet's heart pleading with his people to remember their history, internalize their identity, and, above all, love the Lord their God. History as Foundation: We analyze why Moses begins with a history lesson. Our future obedience is rooted in how we interpret our past. The Shema: We dive into Deuteronomy 6:4–5, exploring what it means to love God with all our heart, soul, and might, and the importance of "whetting" these truths upon the hearts of our children. The Danger of Prosperity: We discuss the warning in chapter 8—the "peril of the full stomach." How do we avoid the pride of saying, "My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth"? Circumcising the Heart: We look at the shift from outward ritual to inward transformation. God doesn't just want our compliance; He wants our "stiff necks" to become submissive. The Choice: We conclude with the dramatic invitation in chapter 30: "I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life." Call-to-Action: Moses used everything from history to reverse psychology to persuade Israel to stay faithful. Which of his "persuasions" resonates most with you today? Is it gratitude, fear, or love? Let's discuss in the comments below. To keep your study of the Old Testament "Unshaken," please like, subscribe, and share this video! In this episode of Building Doors, host Lauren Karan sits down with Dr. Sean Brady, a forensic engineer, safety expert, and founder of Brady Heywood Consulting. Known for leading the landmark Brady Review into fatal mining accidents, Sean breaks down why our current approach to safety is fundamentally flawed and how the way we design systems, reward behavior, and report incidents can quietly create the very risks we think we are preventing.Sean shares what he discovered while investigating major failures across mining, aviation, health, and engineering, and why so many organizations unknowingly encourage silence, hide near misses, and measure the wrong things entirely. From normalization of deviance to the dangers of chasing zero-harm metrics, this episode challenges leaders to rethink how they view systems, human behavior, and organizational learning.Whether you lead teams, manage major projects, or simply want to understand what true safety looks like, Sean's insights will shift how you think about risk, leadership, and culture. What You'll Learn in This Episode:Rethinking Safety and System Design:Why most companies mistake the absence of incidents for the presence of safety. The real reason safety statistics often hide, not reveal, fatal risks. How normalization of deviance creeps into everyday work and leads to catastrophic failures. Why high-reliability organizations like aviation do not rely on compliance alone.Leadership, Reporting, and Culture:Why bad news rarely flows upward and how leaders can change that. How to create a culture where people report near misses instead of hiding them. Why learning beats blaming and how organizations unintentionally punish honesty. What senior leaders must do to build genuine psychological safety.Building Systems That Actually Keep People Alive:Why effective controls, not hazards, determine whether people survive high-risk work. How to design critical controls and verify their effectiveness continuously. The powerful difference between set-and-forget systems versus systems that learn. How dropped object reports and near misses can reveal deep system weaknesses.Key Quotes from Dr. Sean Brady:"It is not hazards that kill people, it is ineffective controls.""Zero harm sounds good, but what your people hear is: do not report anything.""When you cannot measure what is important, you make what you can measure important.""High-reliability organizations do not expect perfection. They expect things to go wrong.""Our companies are built for good news to flow up, not bad news."About Our Guest:Dr. Sean Brady is a forensic engineer, consultant, and internationally recognized expert in safety and organizational failure. Through his company, Brady Heywood Consulting, Sean investigates complex failures across high-risk industries and helps leaders understand how systems break and how to design organizations that learn, adapt, and prevent catastrophic events. His work on the Brady Review reshaped how Australia views mining fatalities and organizational risk.About Your Host:Lauren Karan, founder of Karan & Co. and host of Building Doors, is dedicated to helping professionals unlock their potential. ARMSTRONG - THE MIRACLE MANAGER "My MBA degree did not teach me what Kevin Armstrong has to say in this book." ―BRUCE DER, P. ENG., MBA, president and CEO, A.H. Lundberg Systems Manage A Team That Will Follow You Anywhere! In The Miracle Manager, Kevin G. Armstrong argues that placing true leaders in management positions has become an epidemic that is destroying businesses. Armstrong―a successful speaker, business owner, advisor, disruptor, and best-selling author―knows first-hand the consequences of mistaking great leadership for effective management. With knowledge gained from 20-plus years of exclusively advising CEOs, business owners and their management teams, the author presents a revolutionary approach to organizational management. Utilizing professional researchers and actual case studies of great leaders and coaches of the past, Armstrong illustrates why being a stellar player rarely equates to being a great coach - why businesses have to start rewarding and recognizing their leaders, and valuing the special talents of their managers. "Throughout history, many influential people have earned the title of leader," says Armstrong. "Leaders look to the future, oblivious to who or how many are following. Being an effective manager requires you to efficiently and effectively work through others ― to be what I call a 'manacoach.'" Armstrong shares his proven strategies for implementing management techniques based upon revolutionary concepts to create scalable and sustainable cultures of accountability. For business owners and their management teams, The Miracle Manager is your guide to aligning people with your company culture and creating a healthy environment through accountability where politics cannot survive. About the author Kevin G. Armstrong is an author, speaker, business advisor, disruptor and authority in implementing simple, proven management solutions – but simple doesn't mean easy. In his diverse and accomplished career, he has taught at the high school and college levels, owned and sold small businesses, been an investment firm top seller, and worked in management as a VP at the corporate level, overseeing agencies throughout North America. Kevin has decades of experience helping business owners—from “mom and pops” to Fortune 500s—get more out of their business. Kevin currently leads a group of advisors at the Interdependent Training Group (ITG) which advises business leaders on creating clear vision and implementing strategies to hold their management teams accountable for delivering on their vision. For the past 20+ years of his career, Kevin has studied the important differences between the roles of ‘leader' and ‘manager' in business. His speaking engagements expand on this concept in an interactive, thought-provoking manner which disrupts current thinking and leaves audiences with a new understanding of how leaders can be leveraged through exceptional management to achieve business and personal success.

[00:30] The Power of a True Leader (55 minutes) Donald Trump hasn't officially taken charge as president yet, but the United States already looks different from just a week ago. The ripple effect of Trump's return is affecting the geopolitical scene almost as much as the domestic political landscape. Trump and his appointees are prepared to execute justice against radical-leftist actors who have been sidestepping the law for years and who no longer have the protection of the suddenly powerless Barack Obama. At the same time, some Democrats are finally recognizing the corruption within Kamala Harris's inept presidential campaign, which is in debt after blowing through a billion dollars, and FEMA has been exposed for withholding hurricane relief from Trump supporters.
