FROM THE FROZEN WASTES OF THE ARCTIC TO THE DEPTHS OF THE AFRICAN JUNGLE, THE ARID DESERTS OF MEXICO, AND THE AMERICAN MIDWEST THEY CAME… Welcome to part two of Gabe and Patrick's look back at the biggest year in giant monster movie history. We've got a lot of big bugs this time, including Nathan H. Juran's The Deadly Mantis, the wasps of Kenneth G. Crane's The Monster from Green Hell, ocean mollusks of Arnold Laven's The Monster that Challenged the World, and locusts of Bert I. Gordon's The Beginning of the End. For good measure, we also talk about the really big bird from the antimatter universe seen in Fred F. Sears' The Giant Claw and the mutated monster man of Gordon's The Cyclops. Remember to also check out part one, which covers Nathan H. Juran's 20 Million Miles to Earth, Roger Corman's Attack of the Crab Monsters, Jack Arnold's The Incredible Shrinking Man, and Kurt Neumann's Kronos. This week we wrap up our month of 1950s Atomic and/or Space Monster movies with a couple of "classics:" Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958) and The Giant Claw (1957). We had a lot of fun with these two so join us we discuss questionable 50's science and questionable 50's special effects. We also choose our surprise theme for next month via lottery. Tune in to see what we are covering next month as well as details of the ongoing MRAC giveaway. contact us at: mracfilmclub@gmail.com
Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), Revenge of the Creature (1955), The Creature Walks Among Us (1956). And now, we come to the end of our Universal Monster episodes, having made our way through all the Dracula, Frankenstein, Invisible Man, Mummy, and the Wolf Man films, we now take a dive into the Black Lagoon! Coming out a little less than a decade after the last Universal Monster film (no, I'm not counting A&C Meet Frankenstein), it gave birth to a whole new generation of monster fans that might not have been around for the first cycle. And it did make quite the splash amongst fans, enough to permanently give its spot in the Universal Monster class. And there is a reason for that. Join us while we take a deep dive into these films, maybe pushing you into the deep end of some of them, discussing some things you maybe didn't know about them, and hopefully, if we're doing our jobs, make you revisit them and think about them a little differently, or at least a little more. That's the beauty of films, that no matter how many times you may have seen it, you never know what the next viewing experience will bring you. Films mentioned in this episode: Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), The Creature Walks Among Us (1956), Curse of the Werewolf (1961), The Deadly Mantis (1957), Demon of Paradise (1987), Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931), Friday the 13th Part 3 (1982), The Giant Claw (1957), House of Dracula (1945), House of Frankenstein (1944), Humanoids from the Deep (1980), The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957), It Came from Outer Space (1953), Jaws 3-D (1983), King Kong (1933), Mad Monster Party? MONSTER PARTY STARTS THE YEAR OFF WITH A "B"! JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD, start the year off right with a loving salute to those little movies that could. They may have had low budgets and questionable special effects, but to monster kids of every age, they're classics. MONSTER PARTY proudly invites you to explore... THE B MOVIE LEGACY!!! The original definition of a "B movie" was a film that was the second feature of double bill. These films usually had substantially lower budgets than the "A" movies," but what they lacked in funding, they often made up for with creativity, outrageousness, and style. These days, the term "B movie" is used to describe any small production that is considered by snooty critics to be schlocky or lowbrow. But any non-jaded lover of genre cinema will tell you that whether it's UNKNOWN ISLAND, ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS, or the much maligned, THE GIANT CLAW, there's way more to these movies than you might expect. Joining us for this B movie bash are two new guests to MONSTER PARTY who are definitely kindred spirits. One is a legendary writer, actor, artist, and filmmaker, who gave us such beloved horror/sci-fi comedies as THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA FILM SERIES, and TRAIL OF THE SCREAMING FOREHEAD. Please give a big welcome to... LARRY BLAMIRE! Our other guest is an acclaimed screenwriter, playwright, and director, who wrote the play and screenplay for the 2001 Peter Bogdanovich film, THE CAT'S MEOW, as well as directing the film FOOTPRINTS (2009) and co-writing and directing THE UNDYING (2009). Let's have another big welcome for... STEVEN PEROS! Mr. Blamire and Mr. Peros have recently worked together on the 2023 book, GIANT BEAST CINEMA: A MONSTROUS MOVIE GUIDE (A follow-up to 2023 Rondo Award nominated, GIANT BUG CINEMA: A MONSTER KID'S GUIDE. They like big bugs and they cannot lie!). This book features film reviews from Larry and Steven, and well contributions from JUSTIN HUMPHREYS, TRACY MERCER, MIKE PEROS, and BRIAN R. SOLOMON. Available from BEARMANOR MEDIA! SO, THERE YOU HAVE IT MONSTER PARTIERS! NOW GO GIVE THOSE B MOVIES AN "A"!
Another bumper episode to bring us into the holiday season, as we're joined again by Jacqueline Codiga, aka DJ Horse Jeans, of music writing, promoting and podcasting fame. We've got two returning faces in Keith Rankin, who's solo project Giant Claw we've covered, on production duty for death's dynamic shoud's Faith in Persona, and our eternal object of fascination Daniel Lopatin, who we're talking about for a third (!!) time with the new OPN album, Again. Also we finally figure out what the hell is going on with all that AI business through Lee Gamble's new record Models. Next episode is our end of year wrap-up so, get hyped for that x You can find Jackie on twitter @Horse_Jeans, her writing Everywhere and her contributions to the Indieheads pod in your podcast player of choice. Let's face it: horror fans are, as a group, a little bit obsessive. When we sink our teeth into something we do not do it barely or easily, we take a big, honkin' bite. If we become infatuated with a director, we want to see every film they've made, read a book about them, hear people talk about them, watch documentaries about them, and so on. And the same is true for national horror cinemas, regional American horror cinemas, important eras, actors, subgenres, and the like. And in recent years, a handful of visionary producers of physical media have recognized an opportunity in our longing and have invented and are currently inundating us with boxed sets. These comprehensive, exhaustive, wonderful monsters have become a gravitational center point for our genre. But just a handful of years ago they mostly didn't exist, or were announced only every few years. Nowadays, we get several per year from companies like Severin, Vinegar Syndrome, Indicator, Arrow, and Scream! Factory, just to name a few. So we figured it was time for Discover the Horror to take a long look at the history and impact of these monolithic pieces of film history. Movies mentioned: 100 Years of Horror, Abby (1974), Alien (1979), Beast of Blood (1970), Beyond Dream's Door (1989), Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970), The Black Cat (1934), Blade in the Dark (1983), Blood of Ghastly Horror (1967), The Body Snatcher (1945), Bride of Frankenstein (1935), Carnival Magic (1983), Carnival of Blood (1970), Cat People (1942), City of the Living Dead (1980), Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things (1972), The Chooper (1971), Creature with the Atomic Brain (1955), Curse of the Cat People (1944), Dawn of the Mummy (1981), Day of the Animals (1977), Deathdream (1974), Demons (1985), Demons 2 (1986), Deranged (1974), The Devil-Doll (1936), Dracula (1931), Emanuelle in Bangkok (1976), The Eroticist (1972), Fiend with the Electronic Brain (1967), Final Exam (1990), Flesh for Frankenstein (1973), The Fly (1958), Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake (1959), Frankenstein (1931), Freaks (1932), Friday the 13th (1980), The Ghost Ship (1943), The Giant Claw (1957), The Godfather (1972), Godzilla (1954), Grizzly (1976), Gruesome Twosome (1967), Hellraiser (1987), Help Me . . . In this Episode Tom and Bert cover their favorite movies of the 1950's and recap the reasons as to why these are rated as the best of the decade. From "On the Waterfront" and "12 Angry Men" to "Singing in the Rain" and "Rebel without a Cause" the guys go back and forth with each other discussing the classics.Tom covers the other side of the coin, The Worst Movies of the decade. Did you ever hear of "The Head"? Probably not but you're very lucky to have missed this bomb. "The Giant Claw" may peak your interest so go to You Tube to watch this stiff and you can decide. Is it really that bad, see for yourself! The guys then move onto the gimmicks that movie directors and producers used to get the customers to come to the movies. William Castle, the "King" of B Movies, had a plan to lure you in to the theater to see his films and keep you interested. Movies like "The Tingler", starring Vincent Price, where he rigged the seats to get you to scream. In his movie "Homicidal" he stopped the movie before the final sequence and gave you 1 minute on a clock to leave the theater and get your money back OR stay to the end. The man knew how to suck you in and scare the hell out of you as well. Thanks for listening and please rate and review the podcast. we appreciate your feedback.
Kal is here to talk about the cult classic film. He will give a little production information, as well as his thoughts in the film and his rating out of 5 stars --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/michael-kal-woodman/support
The guys are back and ready for Thanksgiving! However they may have started off with a pretty lousy bird. Join the guys as they review the insanity that is The Giant Claw!!
The importance of the movie poster is almost lost in this day and age. With the internet flooding social media with trailers, photos, and all sorts of advertisements, the poster art might get lost in the shuffle. But decades ago, it was the first thing used to promote an upcoming feature film. It had to reach out and grab hold of your eyes, telling your brain you need to see this film. Shortly after that, the poster collecting started. Why do we collect posters? What kinds are there? What is it about it that still holds a spell over movie goers? Join us and our special guest, Alan Tromp, as we try to answer all of those questions and more, as we discuss our own obsessions with movie posters, from one-sheets to British Quads to the French Grande size! Let's start off by saying this album is a masterpiece. Death's Dynamic Shroud is a vaporwave trio made of Keith Rankin (aka Giant Claw), James Webster (HCMJ), and Tech Honors. However, this album is a solo album by Keith Rankin under the Death's Dynamic Shroud project."Transcendence Bot" is a masterful display of Keith's high-volume, intentional sampling style. The project concept evokes a range of experiences from post-humanist, to Dante's Inferno-esque angel aesthetic, to ethereal; all blending together in a fusion topped by samples of Christina Perry and Katy Perry.I don't think words can do it justice. You'll just have to listen along with us.Let's set sail for Death's Dynamic Shroud's Transcendence Bot. New to The Virtual Ocean? Here's a bit more about our show:Vaporwave is an art aesthetic that embodies the anxiety, disillusionment, and nihilism of the modern world. In music form, vaporwave dives deep into these unconscious anxieties, manifesting sounds from past decades - warping them, manipulating them, and summoning the ghost of the good times that were promised by modern capitalism, but never came.Vaporwave is an expression of the pains of the collective modern unconscious, taking the form of heroin-level escapism, ecstasy-inducing pop music, or dystopian ambient worlds.Because of its internet-based nature, its aesthetics have evolved so rapidly, further reflecting the chaotic subconscious of the modern mind.Vaporwave captures the modern unconscious of humans raised by the internet succinctly and understanding this art form matters. In each episode, we listen to tracks that make up the genre and give our thoughts, analysis, emotions, and commentary on them. Consider donating to us! $thevirtualocean on CashApp will get you your name and any message you want read at the end of the show, starting episode 63. Let's set sail on the Virtual Ocean.
Joe and Sean talk about the infamous B Horror Film, The Giant Claw (1957) as Giant Monster Movie Summer continues. They talk about what made this movie hard to get through and the notoriously designed title monster.

Hello, kaiju lovers! Today's episode is AS BIG AS A BATTLESHIP! Damon Noyes visits the Island (after yet another harrowing experience) for “Ameri-kaiju” to discuss 1957's The Giant Claw. This infamous movie stars the ugliest antimatter-powered space bird you've ever seen! “Crazy Bernice,” as she's known on the Island, looks more like Beaky Buzzard than Rodan, despite her movie being similar to the latter's. Nate and Damon spend a surprising amount of time on this wacky movie, poking fun at the Claw marionette, theorizing over the bird's origins, discussing borderline creepy 1950s flirting, and the movie's unofficial sequel novels! You might be wondering, “What could Marchand possibly research as a Toku Topic for The Giant Claw?” Antimatter. What else? After the broadcast, Nate and Damon break in to commentate on Crazy Bernice escaping from the Beta Site and attacking H.E.A.T.—but thankfully, Zilla is around! Check out the movies Damon was in! Maxie, directed by Jarrett Bryant, is on the streaming site Vimeo. One can get $1.00 off the price by using the code: LaneCounty. “Off the Road,” a 13-minute short from Hewlett Artistry, can be viewed on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/ZdJHBY2a4fg. The “La Carcagne Promo” was written by Damon Noyes. The epilogue, “Crazy Bernice,” was written by Nathan Marchand. Guest stars: Damon Noyes as Kevin Gomora Additional music: “Mechagodzilla vs. Anguirs” by Masaru Sato “Pacific Rim” by Niall Stenson “Chant My Name!” by Masaaki Endo Sound effects sourced from Freesound.org, including those by InspectorJ, and created by J.P. death's dynamic shroud is a collaborative project between James Webster (also known as HCMJ), Tech Honors and Keith Rankin (aka Giant Claw, also label boss at Orange Milk Records, who just released the new record from our pal Problems- more on that later). death's dynamic shroud typically samples video game soundtracks in a mixtape-style format, oftentimes with special distortions and modifications made as a result of being bounced off analog recordings. Since Keith joined up, they have explore a much more high-fidelity, experimental sound (including sampling of anime soundtracks and k-pop), developing a distinct sound and visual aesthetic they personally refer to as "NUWRLD". You can see death's dynamic shroud on tour with Small Black, hitting STL ummmmmm TONIGHT at Off Broadway, presented by that fine purveyor of warm fuzzy musical events, VaporspaceSTL. Should have got this up before, but things regularly sneak up on us and you're not really surprised, are you? Ope, indeed. Here you go, give a listen to the lead single and title track of the new album, Neon Memories, available for preorder here, and then go to the dang show. And follow VaporspaceSTL if you want the skinny on upcoming events in an actually timely fashion, their shizz is top notch, we love 'em.

We explore the history of what many say is the worst Kaiju film of all time, the towering wreckage and dangling marionette of 1957’s The Giant Claw. This film on paper has all the hallmarks of a classic creature feature, but the execution leaves more than most to be desired. Scream queen Mara Corday of Tarantula! and The Black Scorpion fame returns, and stars opposite Jeff Morrow. Is this film as bad as they say? Or does it cross over into the camp and schlock so-bad-its-good side of Kaiju cinema? Find out in this week’s episode of Kaiju Vs. History! For "Hot Takes" episode 18, Skelly and Shiro bring on another member of Death's Dynamic Shroud.wmv to the vaporwave talk show experience! Illustrious freelance graphic designer, label head of experimental and vaporwave label Orange Milk Records, experimental electronic artist Giant Claw, and finally 1/3 of acclaimed vaporwave trio Death's Dynamic Shroud.wmv, Keith Rankin is a serious heavyweight in the independent art and music scene. He's had a hand in the album artwork for countless acts in and outside of the vaporwave scene, had his artwork featured in countless high profile publications, was instrumental in the creation of some of DDS' most critically acclaimed albums, and he just got shouted out as one of the best electronic music artists of 2021 in Pitchfork. Don't miss out on Keith's stories about playing Giant Claw in Midwest bro bars and the conversations the three had about the DIY tape explosion and the importance of seeking out new music as a thirty-something. Getting into the nitty gritty on topics like religious iconography and the amorphous sound of some modern pop music made the two hours we spent with Keith just fly right by! Who's better live? Animal Collective or Phish? Will we ever be able to unearth Keith's Tiny Mix Tapes articles that he wrote? Why does Skeleton Lipstick hate Daedelus so much? The answers can only be found by tuning in to the latest episode of vaporwave talk show "Hot Takes"! "Hot Takes" is a safe space for all opinions! Featuring: Blood Freak (1972), The Giant Claw (1957), and Creatures from the Abyss (1994). Many people think of Turkey Day as a huge feast with friends and family. But to us, Turkey Day is a celebration in those cinematic shipwrecks, those that sometimes defy logic and / or talent, but are damn entertaining. So tune in to hear us discuss our thoughts on Turkeys!

Good mystery building, leading up to the big reveal. Lead woman shoots guns with the men! She is much more integral than most females I've seen from this era. THE BAD Creature design... but that's too easy. Story is basically THE BEAST FROM 20K FATHOMS only stale and uninteresting. THE DOWNRIGHT CAMPY "The flying battleship!" Global marshal law? Yikes! Don't drink and drive, daddios! . . . I get why THE GIANT CLAW is a cult classic, but that doesn't mean it's good. I had fun. I laughed. I would love to make a drinking game out of it. But on it's own, it's not a classic nor does it stand the test of time. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/camp-kaiju/support
