Jodi, Bridget and Philip talk about 'Spellbound' (2024), a new animated musical from Netflix and Skydance Animation. This is the second animated feature to come from Skydance after 'Luck' (2022) and is directed and co-written by 'Shrek' director Vicky Jenson. The film takes viewers to the enchanted, or rather, cursed, kingdom of Lumbria, ruled by King Solon and Queen Ellsmere. Their daughter, Princess Ellian, must determine whether to become queen, since the king and queen were transformed into feral monsters and have been hidden away in the palace for a year. Ellian manages to contact two oracles who are unable to reverse the enchantment but point her toward a possible solution. She must guide the two lizard-like monsters on a journey to a lake of light, but must contend with the fact that this perilous quest will likely leave her, her kingdom, and her family forever changed. It's Musical Monday on BEHIND THE LENS as we look at two fun new musicals – SPELLBOUND with director VICKY JENSON and 1660 VINE with actor KHEMUNI NORODOM. Yes, musicals! Plus, my mini-review on the amazing BONHOEFFER: PASTOR. SPY. ASSASSIN, and some thoughts on the epic and masterful Roman spectacle GLADIATOR II. First, listen to my exclusive interview with director VICKY JENSON talking about the new animated musical from Netflix – SPELLBOUND. Beautiful animation, thoughtful and entertaining story, fun fun characters, creative and imaginative from beginning to end, and filled with music from the legendary Alan Menken, this is a film – and an interview – not to be missed. At the show's midpoint is actor, musician, and Prince of the Cambodian Royal Family, KHEMUNI "MUNI" NORODOM. He joins me live discussing his new film (and incredible breakout performance) – 1660 VINE. Now streaming on Prime, 1660 VINE is a Broadway-style high-octane energy musical with terrific cinematic elements thanks to director Patricia McGregor and unforgettable songs and performances. Muni is the fish-out-of-water protagonist with dreams of stardom, Danny, who moves from North Carolina to Hollywood and takes up residence at 1660 Vine along with other dreamers, Vloggers, and influencers seeking social media stardom. Talk about a fun and joy-filled conversation! Muni is a delight and his passion for his crafts, music/acting/musical theatre, is undeniable. A wonderful and insightful conversation as Muni talks about his background and the importance of education and training, making the leap into music and acting, the support of his family, the casting experience, insights he discovered about the production process once shooting starts, the fun of taking a cake in the face, working with an ensemble, being choreographed by Paula Abdul, dividing time between music and acting, his creative process and collaborations, and so much more. MUNI NORODOM is one person you want to put on your radar now! http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Vicky Jenson's directorial career got off to a hell of a start. As co-director of Shrek, she went to the Cannes Film Festival, she won an Oscar, scored a massive box office hit. Then Shark Tale followed, another hit. Then a live action movie, Post-Grad - but that didn't hit. And she paid a career price. This story gets better though, as Jenson's now made the animated feature Spellbound, which is available on Netflix. And she's chatting to us for this special episode of Film Stories.

“YOU THERE, OGRE!“On this episode, we cover the first film to ever take home the Best Animated Picture at the Oscars. We talk about the first film in the Dreamworks tent-pole franchise, Shrek, directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, starring Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow. What was it about Shrek that permeated throughout pop culture for over twenty years since its original release? Was it the fact that it was book-ended by two catchy Smash Mouth tracks? Because it lampooned all of the Disney films we grew up with and came out during the years where we wanted more edgy comedy? Or maybe because it provided the perfect meme template rivaled only by SpongeBob? Perhaps it's a combination of everything above. We talk about how the comedy in this film still works to this day. So much of the comedy comes from making fun of fairy tales made popular by Disney, and potentially making fun of people working at Disney, but some of the comedy is on a layer aimed for the adults in the audience. Watching the film 20 years later gives us a whole new level of jokes to notice that we might have missed as kids.We talk about how the comedy of the film doesn't completely bury the story. While often times our entertainment media might indulge in meta humor, it might come at the expense of the sincerity of the story. Shrek is a little different. While a huge part of the movie is all the jokes made about the fairy tale genre, the film doesn't forget about what it's trying to say about it's underdog characters. We talk about the legacy of Shrek. While it was great box office success in 2001, spawned two movie franchises, it also meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people. The song All-Star became a hit (again) and inspired some creative people to create mashups and remixes. We talk about how the love story in the film has since become a source of inspiration for real life weddings. We also take a look at some fan fiction that ranges from bizarrely sincere and sweet, to criminally obscene. If you have never heard the phrase “Shrek is love, Shrek is life,” don't look it up unless you want to revisit peak “no holds barred“ message board ‘humor.' Seriously.. its gross.Joining us on this episode is Brittnie who chose to talk about Shrek. We love talking to people about their favorite movies, and we were very curious as to what she had to say!We hope you enjoy this episode, and keep a lookout for our upcoming PATREON launch!Music is from Triune Digital and audio clips pulled from movies we will be reviewing in other episodes.Artwork by @jannelle_o

Loosely based on the 1990 fairy tale picture book of the same name by William Steig, this movie taught us that ogres have layers, a donkey can be a noble steed, the address of the Muffin Man, and sometimes things are more than they appear. Directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson in their directorial debuts, Shrek is the computer-animated comedy movie that parodied fairy tale adaptations – particularly animated Disney films, and celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year in 2021. Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek (Mike Myers) whose precious solitude is suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying fairy tale characters. Shrek makes a deal with Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) to regain control of his swamp in return for rescuing Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), whom Farquaad intends to marry. With the help of Donkey (Eddie Murphy), Shrek embarks on his quest but soon falls in love with the princess, who is hiding a secret that will change his life forever.
The Anniversary Brothers Movie Podcast: Shrek 20th Anniversary Aaron and Josh Sarnecky are here for the May edition of their movie retrospectives. This month they're talking about Shrek for its 20th anniversary. Shrek opened in theaters on May 18, 2001. It is an animated comedy, directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson and based on a picture book by William Steig. It stars Mike Myers (Bohemian Rhapsody) as an irritable ogre named Shrek. In the film Shrek agrees to rescue Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz, Vanilla Sky) from a dragon. This is in exchange for the deed to his swamp, where Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow, Interstellar) has forcibly relocated the land's fairytale creatures. Joining Shrek on his journey is Donkey (Eddie Murphy, Coming 2 America), a unique jackass with the ability to talk. But unbeknownst to Shrek, Donkey, and Farquaad, there is more to Princess Fiona than there appears. Shrek was a hit with critics and moviegoers alike. It grossed $484 million worldwide on a $60 million budget. It was nominated at the Oscars for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Animated Feature, winning the latter, which was a new category that year. Shrek has since gone on to spawn multiple sequels, a theme park ride, and even a Broadway musical. The Library of Congress added Shrek to the National Film Registry in 2020, a first for an animated feature not produced or distributed by Disney. Josh and Aaron talk about how Shrek fits into their childhood before breaking down its plot, characters, humor, and computer animation. The brothers also go into the film's long production history and legacy. For another animated DreamWorks film, listen to Aaron and Josh talk about The Road to El Dorado. Shrek is streaming on Hulu.

SomeBODY once told me that this is the best film school podcast taught by film school professionals (not graduates) around! The 2000's live! Professors Malu and Katie relive their wayward youths by indulging in 1999's Shrek (dir: Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson) and 2003's Daddy Day Care (dir: Geoff Rodkey)! Your inscrutable instructors talk at length about how funny these movies are and then ultimately decide that they hold up, sort of, kind of, mostly, and it's not just rose-colored glasses, probably. They break ice and Malu tortures Katie with a game about grisly fairy tales. Who could ask for anything more? Please rate, review, and subscribe on your podcatcher of choice, ya farquads. Vicky Jenson started painting backgrounds for Hanna-Barbera cartoons and rose through the ranks of the TV and film animation business until DreamWorks hired her to co-direct a feature animation. Upon its release in 2001 the movie proved to be a juggernaut. Its title is “Shrek,” and not only did it win the first-ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and gross over $267 million in 2001 alone, but it also spun off three sequels, several video games and even a Broadway stage adaptation. Vicky went on to co-direct the Oscar-nominated “Shark Tale” and also to direct several live-action projects in the worlds of film, television and advertising. She is currently hard at work on her latest project, a new animated film she is directing for Skydance Animation that is scheduled to be released in November of 2022. In this interview with Rob Kramer and Pier Carlo Talenti, Vicky discusses the unexpected ways in which the pandemic has affected the making of her new film and how the recent reckoning on gender and race disparity in Hollywood is finally standardizing the inclusive and welcoming atmosphere she always created on her own projects. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/apple-acquires-luck-spellbound-from-skydance-animation

Hello everyone! Welcome back to another episode of 2 Peas In A Podcast! This week, the gals take a break from the Star Wars Films to watch the Academy Award winner for Best Animation, “Shrek” directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson. Both gals recognize the ground breaking work that this film is, going from being a film enjoyed by all ages, to paving the way to a new kind of animation films. We hope you enjoy this episode! We sure had a blast making it.
Why does Shrek have a Scottish accent in his franchise? Today I’m going through the wild production of the original Shrek film to explore how Mike Myers developed the character of Shrek with the talents of Jeffrey Katzenberg, Andrew Adamson, and Vicky Jenson. How did they come up with this voice? Why is Shrek the ogre with the accent? And how does this build Shrek as a relatable character? The in-universe answer and the production answer are going to be discussed here! __Join our exclusive family of fun people, become a producer, and help support the show!http://patreon.com/wotsovideos __Shop Following Dreams shirts, hoodies, stickers, and more -http://wotsostore.com __Ask questions, send comments and business inquiries -wotsovideos@gmail.com __Watch all of the magical Disney film content Isaac makes on YouTube - http://youtube.com/wotsovideos ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Follow me on InstagramFollow me on TwitterLike me on Facebook@WotsoVideos
When it was decided that we wouldn’t be able to bring you interviews of the artists in our season due to the postponement of shows, I reached out to a number of people that I thought would be interesting to speak with. Kelly Freemon Craig, award winning film director and screenwriter was gracious enough to take me up on the offer. Kelly started out writing sketch comedy and spoken word poetry in college, then landed an internship in the film division of Immortal Entertainment, where she read her first film script and began to pursue screenwriting. She developed several screenplays during the 2000s, including a modern high school retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac and a comedic remake of the 2004 French drama Intimate Strangers for Paramount Pictures. One of her scripts, Ticket to Ride, caught the attention of Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman. He bought the script under his The Montecito Picture Company as a directing vehicle for Reitman. According to Reitman, the script was rewritten at least 15 times. The film was released, under the new title Post Grad. The film was instead directed by Shrek director Vicky Jenson and was released in 2009 and starred Alexis Bledel, Michael Keaton and Carol Burnett. In 2011, Kelly completed another script titled Besties and sent the script over to James L. Brooks. Brooks bought the script and was announced that Kelly would direct the film and Brooks would serve as a producer and mentor for her in directing her first film. The film was released by STX Entertainment in Fall 2016 under its new title The Edge of Seventeen to critical praise. I was curious about how she got her start in Hollywood… knowing that she spent some time in community theatre, we talk about her inspiration to go to Hollywood, her past projects and the film she is currently working on. The project that Kelly is currently working on is a film adaptation of “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret” by Judy Bloom. A book that Ms. Bloom once said she would never let be adapted for the screen. I was curious how she planned to make the film version of a Judy Bloom book that would appeal, not only to children but also to the adult who may have grown up reading her books. Coming from an authentic place and full reverence for the material, Kelly’s plan seems to be well thought out. Despite the fact that I have never read “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret”, I know I will be anxiously awaiting its release next year.

Hello and welcome to twenty-seventh episode of Fanboy Nation’s Toon-In-Talk, your rendezvous for animation interviews. Continuing with her fabulous Ladies of Animation series, Whitney interviews the one and only Vicky Jenson. Vicky is one of the top animation directors, in Whitney’s opinion, in Hollywood and she also lends her talents to television animation as well. She is respected as the director of DreamWorks’s Shrek and Shark Tale. Vicky’s resume includes the shows Smurfs, He-Man, JEM, She-Ra and the films The Road to El-Dorado, Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, and FernGully. She discusses her past successes with Whitney and also hints at some exciting projects yet to come. Show Notes Vicky Jenson is an animation director who worked on many feature films and cartoons. Whitney’s favorite work of Vicky’s is Shrek. Vicky never did any of the animation on the projects she worked on, but she has dabbled in different parts of the process, including storyboarding. Remember that Old Navy advertising campaign a few years ago with the talking mannequins? That was Vicky Jenson’s work! She became interested in directing when she worked in storyboarding, because she decided the camera angles, action, and loved the interaction with the story. Whitney and Vicky discuss the benefits of drawing in a digital environment vs. the traditional pencil in hand model. Vicky Jenson describes working in animation during the Saturday morning boom in the 1980s. She joined DreamWorks and began work on The Road to El Dorado. Jeffrey Katzenberg noticed Vicky Jenson’s talent for story and encouraged her to be storyboarding and directing. Vicky later worked on Shrek and through her persistance and talent became one of the directors. Vicky and Whitney talk about how storyboarding ins integral to the story process. She left her position at DreamWorks animation in 2015 after being at the studio from the beginning. When DreamWorks restructured in January 2015, the studio decided to end production on several animated film projects, including the one Vicky Jenson was on. It’s disappointing that some of these features will never be seen, especially since many of them were 70% animated. Vicky Jenson is writing and illustrating her own graphic novel, much to Whitney’s excitement. She is also working on a stage musical and is adapting a work. Vicky describes it as something between Cirque du Soiliel and Broadway. Her advice to women interested in pursuing an animation career: get your stuff together and do it. Also seek out opportunities and pursue them when they appear. Vicky shares that she learned the most when she was on the job. She has nothing to declare!
On this week's episode, the guys go to Toon Town to talk about the doesn't-really-hold-up fan favorite, Shrek! Does that ogre eat its own feces? PLUS: A writer for Gangbang Monthly gets his credentials in order to make the first Shrek press screening!Shrek stars the vocal talents of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, John Lithgow, and Vincent Cassel; directed by Vicky Jenson & Andrew Adamson.
