“We should start back” sono le primissime parole de “Le Cronache del Ghiaccio e del Fuoco” di George R.R. Martin e noi abbiamo pensato di fare esattamente così.Imbottigliato e spedito per direttissima attraverso il Mare Stretto, Tyrion capisce ben poco del viaggio verso Pentos. Beh, la spiegazione è così semplice che al Lannister sembra quasi isterica, a tratti troppo banale; Illyrio si ricorda infatti che Viserys, il fratello più grande di Daenerys, gli aveva promesso che l'avrebbe promosso a Maestro del Conio una volta diventato re, e il Magistro di Pentos spera che la sorella mantenga la promessa.Tra banchetti a bordo della lettiga e notti di vino e chiacchiere, veniamo a scoprire anche il profondo legame che intercorre tra Varys l'eunuco e Illyrio, amicizia che va avanti da decenni, tra Pentos, Myr e Approdo del Re. Veniamo anche a scoprire la storia di Hugor Hill, colui che ha portato gli Annali e il Credo dei Sette a Westeros e ci viene rivelato che, con grande sorpresa di Tyrion, la Compagnia Dorata ha reciso un sacro contratto per andare in aiuto alla regina Targaryen. Un'enorme serie di stranezze e una confessione di amor perduto di Illyrio portano alla mente di Tyrion ancora una volta Tysha, suo fratello e suo padre, sia sotto forma di ricordi che sotto forma di sogni… d'altronde è solo immaginando che Tyrion può essere amato. Mackelly and Simon ponder the possibilities. Chapter ReviewTyrion is passed from Illyrio to Haldon the Half-Maester and Ser Rolly “Duck” Duckworth, along with letters, chests, and candy for young Griff. As they depart Tyrion sees Mopatis looking forlorn. Duck provides his life story, including being dubbed by Griff watched by Ducks, confirming his nickname. When they reach the Little Rhoyne at the ruined city of Ghoyan Drohe, they rendezvous with the riverboat, the Shy Maid. They are welcomed by Young Griff who dyes his hair blue in the Tyroshi fashion - after his mother - but Tyrion thinks that it won't fly in Westeros. Griff the elder is far from pleased to welcome Tyrion. A letter from Mopatis explains what is going on, but doesn't change his mood. He thinks Danaerys would be well advised to reject a kin and kingslayer from her service. But despite the abundance of ships, nobody wants to take him. The autumn brings storms to the southern seas, and with the Dragon Queen upending the normal order of things, there's little prospect for trade with any of the cities in Slaver's Bay.He and his friend Gerris Drinkwater return to their lodgings, taking in the sites of Volantis. It's the largest of the free cities, sitting at the mouth of the mighty Rhoyne river. They consider their options: go home - Quentyn couldn't stand to return a failure, risk a journey with an untrustworthy captain, or go by land - the option favored by their final companion Archibald Yronwood. However, the length of the journey by land and the hazardous reputation of the road gives them pause.Outside their inn they're propositioned by recruiters for the Windblown - sellswords headed to Yunkai to fight Astapor. Mackelly and Simon try to imagine what that must be like.Chapter Review:Tyrion Lannister and Illyrio Mopatis leave Pentos in a closed palanquin. Nobody can know of Tyrion's presence or destination. He thinks that between the sailors and Mopatis' servants the word is already out. But his host is confident of their discretion. Tyrion is doubtful. Tyrion tries to unearth Mopatis' true motivations in helping Daenerys Targaryen regain the Iron Throne. The Pentosi claims that he just wants to help the young girl he fell in love with, that he was promised a Westerosi lordship and the role of Master of Coin. None of that convinces Tyrion. They're headed east toward the Rhoyne, where Tyrion will go south by river to Volantis. There Mopatis expects he'll rendezvous with Daenerys and her growing army. Dopo la sconfitta dei Rhoynar, i valyriani hanno il completo dominio della Essos occidentale, e sembra che nulla sia destinato a fermare la loro avanzata, tanto che fondano persino un avamposto al largo delle coste di Westeros, sull'isola che viene chiamata "Dragonstone", Roccia del Drago. Presto, la vista dei draghi con i loro cavalieri volare sulla Baia delle Acque Nere non diventa rara, né suscita sorpresa... ma cosa avessero in programma i valyriani per Westeros non ci è dato sapere, perché nel 102BC succede qualcosa di inaspettato. Le Quattordici Fiamme eruttano contemporaneamente, causando una serie di reazioni a catena che porta alla distruzione di Valyria in appena un giorno. La cosa ha conseguenze devastanti sotto ogni punto di vista: uno dei luoghi più fertili del mondo diventa sterile, la penisola valyriana si spacca in tante piccole isole separate da un nuovo mare pieno di orrori, Essos discende nel caos, con i suoi popoli che si fanno guerra tra loro. Con lo sviluppo dell'impero valyriano e la sua potenza in un continuo crescendo anche grazie ai loro draghi, i valyriani si espandono in ogni direzione di Essos, da est ad ovest, raggiungendo le coste del Mare Stretto, dove nemmeno la Vecchia Ghis, il più grande impero fino alla sua sconfitta, era riuscita ad arrivare. Sulle coste del continente, così come i suoi fiumi e colline, i valyriani erigono le città che oggi sono conosciute come le Città Libere… più o meno, perché c'è un'eccezione.Le loro origini sono diverse. Dopo la sconfitta dei Rhoynar da parte dei Valyriani, il Principe Garin il Grande viene posto in una gabbia dorata e obbligato ad assistere allo sterminio del suo popolo. Le acque di Volantis diventano rosse, e con la loro risalita lungo il fiume ogni città Rhoynar viene distrutta, compresa la sua splendida Chroyane. La sua gabbia viene appesa alle mura della città, ed è qui che Garin lancia una terribile maledizione, chiedendo a Madre Rhoyne di vendicare i suoi figli. Quella notte, il fiume esonda fuori stagione, e una fitta nebbia cade su di esso. I conquistatori valyriani cominciano a morire di un morbo misterioso, che calcifica e spacca la pelle, trasformandola in pietra. Morbo grigio, viene chiamato, e presto si diffonde in tutta Planetos, sviluppandosi in luoghi freddi e umidi. Certo, i maestri non danno troppo peso alla leggenda, preferendo rimanere sul pratico, la malattia è in fondo diffusa in tutto il mondo conosciuto e epidemie non sono per nulla strane... ma c'è mistero intorno ad essa, una sorta di misticismo, a cominciare dagli uomini di pietra, malati nella fase finale del morbo, tra le rovine di Chroyane e il loro misterioso leader, il Lord del Sudario. Another week, another episode in the wind down phase of Talkin' Thrones, Season 6, Episode 3, entitled "Oathbreaker," a reverse of a previous Season 4 episode, only with a much different context behind it. Despite this still being an action season, we're finding that Season 6 is mirroring Season 5 a little bit more than we would have liked, considering that we're getting into the phase of set up/spinning our wheels until the last two episodes, leaving a lot of room on the table for some actually juicy scenes. We start by addressing a booboo that Professor Pat made last week, mistakenly thinking that Bran seeing his father's fight with Arthur Dayne happened in last week's episode, when it really happened in this episode. Cersei & Jaime attempt to get the attention of the other members of the Small Council, but they ignore them, while the High Sparrow continues his games with Margaery & Tommen. Dany is finally brought back to Vaes Dothrak, and discovers what her fate was originally supposed to be. We also check in briefly with Sam & Gilly, still on their way south to Oldtown. In Braavos, Arya continues to train with sticks & faces, and eventually is able to get her eyesight back. In Meereen, Varys interrogates the woman who was assisting the Sons of the Harpy and discovers that (shocker) the Slave Masters of Astapor, Yunkai & Volantis are bankrolling the Sons. God can we be done with Meereen. At Winterfell, Ramsay shores up his alliances, with the Umbers turning on their lifelong oath to the Starks by presenting Ramsay with a gift. It all ends with the next gangbuster moment, with Jon, freshly back from the dead and now being seen as a god by the Wildlings, executing Alliser Thorne and the rest of the Watch mutineers, including Olly, before ultimately stating that his watch is ended and abandoning the position of Lord Commander. In episode 98 the Fingers of Davos explore the most impressive of the free cities:  Pentos, Braavos and Volantis.  These are perhaps the most different cities from each other as you can get.  Braavos, the poster-child of anti-slavery starkly cast against Volantis powered by slaves at a ratio of 5-to-1, with Pentos in between, pretending not to be pro-slavery but embracing everything it entails.  One that denies its Valyrian roots, one that holds itself as the Valyrian standard, and one that embraces its roots, but also fine with mixing with other cultures.  Such a fun set of differences to cover.  We also spend some time in Valyria itself, talking about its current state, and whether it is as dangerous as it seems. In three weeks we are moving to a bit of a format change, so get psyched for Davos’ Fingers madness.  Nothing to read on your end, nothing to prep.  We are getting back to ASOIAF proper, with a series of episodes called “What If”.  Specifically in this case: What if Rhaegar had defeated Robert on the Trident?  So get ready for some zany analysis about what would have gone differently had Robert not caved in Rhaegar’s chest. "Now it begins." -Ser Arthur Dayne. "No, now it ends." -Ned Stark.  The season continues as Jon Snow comes back to the land of the living.  Bran is still training with the 3 Eyed Raven as they go back to the battle at the Tower of Joy where we all get a chance to see The Sword of The Morning in breathtaking combat for the first and only time.  In Vaes Dothrak, Daenerys awaits her fate during the time of the Khalar Vezvhen to see if she will be staying with the Dosh Khaleen or something less kind.  In Mereen, Varys learns the truth about where the Sons of the Harpy are getting their funding while at Kings Landing, Qyburn now has Varys little birds for his own. In Bravos, Jaquen H'gar tells Arya "A girl is not a beggar anymore." Lord Smalljon Umber back at Winterfell comes to Ramsay for an alliance and even though they don't see eye to eye, Lord Umber has a gift for Ramsay.... "Welcome home, Lord Stark" Ramsay tells Rickon Stark.  Sansa pleas with Jon to get an army to retake Winterfell back from the Bolton's, Tyrion appears to have struck a deal with the Good Masters of Astapor, the Wise Masters of Yunkai and their friends in Volantis and Daenerys comes up with a plan of her own.  Jon Snow receives a threatening letter from Ramsay Bolton in which he and Sansa learn that Ramsay has Rickon and now they have no choice but to try and take Winterfell back.  Daenerys meets with the great khal's while they attempt to decide her fate, until she decides for herself in a fiery blaze of glory.  Stick with the Riddikulus Crew as we tackle the next wave of events in the wildly thick plot of season 6! As Daenerys says, "Yeri Vosechi Yeri Vadrivoe! "You are not going to serve, you are going to die."

Episode 62 has a heavy slant toward the Ironborn and Slaver’s Bay. Join Jeremy Baker and Meredith from CFOX as they discuss episode 3 of Game of Thrones Season 7. Jon arrives at Dragonstone. Daenerys demands his fealty. He refuses and focuses instead on convincing her to fight the Army of the Dead. Following Tyrion's advice, Daenerys grants Jon access to the island's dragonglass. Melisandre hides her presence from Jon and leaves for Volantis. Bran arrives at Winterfell and reveals his newfound role as the Three-Eyed Raven to Sansa. In King's Landing, Euron returns with Ellaria and Tyene as a gift for Cersei, who promises to marry him after the war is won. She also awards him co-control of her military alongside Jaime. Cersei administers to Tyene the same poison used to kill Myrcella, forcing Ellaria to watch her daughter's impending death. In Oldtown, a healed Jorah leaves to find Daenerys. Ebrose forgives Samwell. Grey Worm and the Unsullied attack Casterly Rock, only to find it mostly abandoned. Jaime led most of the Lannister forces in an attack on Highgarden, while Euron's fleet ambushes and destroys the Unsullied's ships. The Lannister forces overwhelm Olenna's army. Jaime offers Olenna a quick and painless death by poison. After drinking it, she confesses to poisoning Joffrey.

In Episode 60, Matt and Scad hit the open road, spanning from The Wall, to Dorne and across the Narrow Sea in Volantis and all the way over to Mereen.  Jon hits the recruiting trail to try and beef up the Night’s Watch, while Tyrion dips his finger back into Westerosi politics and dips his uh…nevermind.  Arianne pines away in a tower, awaiting her punishment.  Dany is reunited with an old crush, and considers a new love connection while we get introduced to Quentyn, another hopeful claimant to her…uh…heart.
